I have to say this has been a disaster for us. Despite the hefty initiation fee of $400, the candidates we were given and moved forward with was a no show no call multiple times throughout the nanny search period (from the interviews to trial days). I am not completely sure if this is on the candidates or miscommunication among the owner + candidates + families, but this has been a complete waste of time, money, and energy. In my effort to ease communication, I even wrote down meeting minutes and highlighted action items for the poor woman. I am glad that we went ahead and at least applied and wait listed both of our children at daycares, because we would have been left without any childcare options if we had completely entrusted this agency with our childcare needs. Based on my experience both working with hiring agents and various online nanny search sources (care.com, sittercity, etc.), my opinion is that if you have the time and resources, it's better, from a cost-benefit standpoint, to use online resources. Our family engaged Grace/Genuine Nannies to find a nanny for our 3 kids prior to our move to the Bay Area from Illinois. This was our first experience with hiring a nanny and it wasn't possible for us to find a nanny in the Bay Area while we were living out of state, so we looked to Grace for guidance. To make a long story short, here are the pros and cons of our experience: Pros: 1) Convenience: GN interviewed candidates locally on our behalf since we were located out of state 2) Flexibility: When we weren't happy with our original choice, GN helped us find a replacement - no fuss. 3) Fixed placement fee: Some of the other placement agents we contacted charged a percentage of the hired nanny's salary (conflict of interest?) Cons: 1) Quality of "HR" service provide: I think working professionals, particularly people who work in corporate environments, will be capable of judging work ethic, quality of character, and social compatibility as well as, if not better than, GN (and I'm guessing most people looking for care are working professionals) 2) Advice provided: Recommendations for nanny salary was the most misleading (considering nanny's experience, services provided, etc.) among advice provided. 3) Cost: Although their placement fee structure appears to be more fair than that of other agencies, ultimately, the amount paid doesn't justify the services. I initially didn't write a review as I had no other experience hiring nannies to which I could compare. We recently let the nanny we hired through GN go and experienced hiring a temp-nanny and a full-time nanny via care.com and sitterycity. Both hires were fantastic and were paid wages that were reflective of market. The time I spent interviewing and working with GN was nominally less than the time I spent searching and interviewing candidates myself and the resources GN provided (working contract template, interview questions, background checks) were items that are readily available on the internet for free or much lesser charge. In summary, if you have the time, I recommend saving money and going through the hiring process yourself. read more

I'm not sure why my experience with Amy was so poor relative to everyone else who has reviewed her on Yelp. I'm assuming it's because her clients can afford nannies in the $20-25+/hour range. Apparently it was impossible to find us a nanny in San Francisco for less. I was very hopeful after she first came over to meet with us and collect our $250 deposit. She was upbeat and understood just how hard it is to find a nanny you connect with, particularly when it's for your first child. We met on a Saturday and by late Monday night I received a "food for thought" sampling of four nanny bios - unfortunately only one of whom was relevant to our search parameters. Another was relevant but out of our price range. We wanted to make an offer to that one relevant match, but she unfortunately took a job with another family outside of Amy's firm. From there, my experience continued on its downward spiral. After many, MANY emails and texts to Amy (I get that being a mom and working full-time is tough, but I had to pretty much harass her for updates), I received another set of four nanny bios that were just not right for us. I still find it hard to believe that it's THAT difficult to find a nanny who has some recent full-time paid experience caring for infants and is not younger/a student who is nannying as a side-job. Thankfully in the interim I had started searching for nannies on my own via Sittercity, Care.com and Golden Gate Mothers Group (GGMG) and found TONS of nanny options in the $15-20/hour range who are career nannies and very highly-reviewed by their previous families. I found I preferred doing the searching and vetting on my own. Only we knew what we wanted in a nanny and didn't figure it out until we met with several candidates. Save yourself $250 (unless of course it's a drop in the bucket as I expect it is for the majority of her clientele) and try searching on your own to start! read more

Amy helped me find both a night doula and a nanny. Here's are my thoughts on working with her: Night Doula - She immediately found me a spectacular night doula who was exactly what we asked for. It was Very impressive and Very fast. Amy knows a good candidate when she sees one. Nanny - The first nanny we hired through Amy we didn't like. But I don't blame Amy for that. I don't think this nanny particularly liked children and, unfortunately, you can't always screen for a component the nanny can easily lie to you about. With that said, Amy didn't love this nanny so my only advice to Amy would be to trust your gut and enforce it. Because you called it early that she wouldn't work out for us and you were right. Or perhaps that was your way of telling me to fire her :) which I should have done sooner. When it came time to find the second/replacement nanny a few months later, Amy nailed it. She sent me not only the sweetest nanny I've ever met, but also one that was sharp, intuitive, proactive, kind and loved children. I could not have found this nanny on my own. It took Amy's hard work and intuition to bring this pairing together. And I couldn't be happier. Amy Osborn and Genuine Nannies is/are amazing. When we hired Amy to help us find a nanny, we had been searching for several months and had not yet found the right person to be our long-term nanny. We were too busy to thoroughly search, we were becoming overwhelmed with our lack of positive results, and even with all of our effort, we were not sure how to do the search in the most efficient way. From the minute we hired Amy, I felt so much better and more relaxed for the following reasons: 1. Amy truly listened to us and our desires/needs: our logistical needs, our desires for a nanny, our parenting style, our lifestyle. We felt heard and respected, even though I felt like we were looking for a nanny who may be too good to be true. She assured us that we would find the right nanny. She really knows from experience that family/nanny matches cannot be created; they are found with patience and persistence. 2. Amy gave us a lot of great advice about how to find the right person. She suggested that we interview many candidates, even some that may not seem like the best fit but who could be an okay fit because each of our interviews helps us clarify for ourselves AND for Amy, who we are looking for. She impressed upon us the importance of communicating as much as possible with her about what we liked and didn't like about each candidate. I cannot express how wise she is about the way to go about this process. There are so many nuances to what we want and don't want in a nanny, and it was through the process of meeting people and seeing them with our kids that it became crystal clear. Only then we were able to refine and redefine our needs and desires to Amy so she could be on the lookout for the best, evolving fit. 3. Amy is patient beyond belief and she always validated our needs and desires. At times, I felt bad because I felt like we were a high-maintenance family that was asking too much. But, no matter what I said to Amy about what I liked or didn't like about candidates, I felt genuinely supported and respected by Amy. 4. She provides many useful tools and forms to use when interviewing, considering, and hiring a nanny. Every candidate applies in writing and Genuine Nannies/Amy meets them in-person BEFORE she even sends them to you!!! She had done so much leg-work to learn about each candidate so I felt like I was doing a really thorough job even though I didn't have to spend so much time or figure everything out myself. I could really focus on the people who already presented themselves as a good possibility for our needs. Two bits of advice for your search: - Be patient! It takes time to find the right person. Finding the right person isn't about Amy doing her job as quickly as possible. Rather, try to let it be about allowing the right person to reveal himself or herself. Maybe your perfect person isn't applying to be a nanny the minute you start your search but they will be looking for you soon. Give yourself as much time as you can and look at several options/meet several candidates to really know that you have found the right match when it happens. - The nanny is interviewing you as much as you are interviewing them. Think about their experience as they meet you. The nanny you want needs to want to work for you too in order for you and the nanny to be a match. Final thought: Amy found us a nanny that is a perfect fit for us. I literally had a list of exactly who I/we wanted to hire which included age, experience, where they live, their style, and disposition. And with patience and persistence, Amy found her for us!!! Though between being a first time parent, working several jobs and a busy husband - I just didn't have time to do a thorough search for a permanent Nanny. I initially had 5 star review in here for Genuine Nannies, but after using them a few times I felt we had more of a 3 star experience. We worked with Rachel the very first time we wanted a nanny. Our experience is as follows: Rachel came home and spoke to us about what we were looking for in a nanny and sent us a couple of profiles. We liked only one of the profiles she had sent us and ended up hiring her for part-time. She turned out to be awesome with our 8 month old at the time. After having her for 3 months, our nanny had to move to a different location, we reached out to Rachel again. This time the nanny we ended up hiring was not up to the mark and we had to let her go. In each of these cases, we had to pay an expensive fee for genuine nannies to find someone for us. Fast forward to about a year and a half later Genuine nannies requires you to hire a nanny for atleast 4 hours every day if wanting someone for part-time. This time our toddler was in day care and we just needed help for evenings for about 2 hours each day. Amy worked with us on this. She mentioned to us that she would speak to a couple of nannies and get back to us. I sent her an email with the tasks the nanny would need to do each day (basic laundry, dishes, picking him up from day care, light housekeeping etc) I had to email Amy each time for updates on how things were going in finding a nanny for us or I would get a phone call from her weeks apart telling me that all the nannies were interested in 4 hours or more and she did not like anyone she interviewed.. Since we wanted someone immediately, I had to go register on some of the nanny websites and ended up finding an awesome nanny myself. So although genuine nannies might be good for finding you nannies for full-time, they don't do a good job or show enough interest in finding someone for part-time. Living in the bay area, I cannot believe that there was no-one interested in the job we had open (evenings hours with good pay). I feel I did a better job myself in finding someone I needed. If we ever require a full-time nanny in the future, I feel that with enough research its easier for parents to find someone on their own than having to go through an agency which may or may not do a good job of matching someone for your family. read more

My husband and I were looking for a nanny for the first time, which was so daunting. We had no idea where to start. We are so grateful that we worked with Kelsey, who also has experience being a nanny as well. Her insight into the process as well as her prompt attention to all of our questions (we were able to call and email her and get a response quickly) helped ease our minds about how to go about finding a nanny. We did a lot of the legwork prior to meeting with Kelsey, but she really helped us in the interview process as well as figuring out how to write a contract and so forth. Amy found us a fulltime nanny for our infant daughter. She was able to place someone with us before our daughter was even born which helped relieve a lot of stress for me and made it possible for me to have overlap with the nanny while I was on my short maternity leave. The woman she found for us met all of our criteria and is extremely loving and good with our daughter. I could not have asked for a better fit. It also happened to be someone Amy placed with a family in the past so she knew she was high quality and would be a perfect fit. Amy's services are definitely worth the price. She does all the screening leg work and only sends over top candidates. In fact, the candidate I ended up choosing was the first person Amy sent me. I had used care.com before discovering Amy and had no success and it took a ton of time to go through all the candidates. And unlike other agencies, Amy has a ton of connections to nannies that she had built up over the years so she knows many of these people firsthand. My wife had a baby in March and she was planning to go back to work in June. AFter contacting various infant daycare centers in the area, we quickly realized that this was going to be a challenge. We had no idea that we should have been on the waitlist for infant daycare before our child was even conceived! So, come late April, we were a little stressed out. We started exploring other options and came across Amy's Genuine Nannies service. We contacted her to start the application process and set up a time for her to come to our home and talk to us about the various options and the general landscape of nanny services. We learned quite a bit in that visit and Amy was immediately able to present us the profile of one potential candidate.
