Wow ...I was really impressed ... I've been here a few times and the food is always deliciously consistent And fast. I honestly can't believe how quick the food comes.out ... This weekend I brought my family of 8 in and we were quickly seated....The menu has everything that you want.. and if there's something on there that you don't see, they would gladly make it for you.... My nephew is gluten free And it was nice to be able to bring them here and he was able to eat. They have this wonderful gluten-free french toast and you can make any sandwich on gluten-free bread... I had a caramel latte. Being lactose intolerant. I was was happy that they carry oat milk... And they serve dark organic roast coffee..... And before I forget, I haven't had good soup in a long time. It's very hard to find a place that makes fresh soups everyday, they serve a complimentary bowl with sandwiches... they also serve cream of chicken twice a week Thursday and Sunday....... If I'm correct this restaurant has been open almost 40 years, if any restaurant knows what they're doing It seems that they do with one of the fastest kitchens I've ever seen ...and efficient servers.... Oh I do want to add this because I've been breakfast surfing restaurants looking for fresh hash browns and I don't know what's wrong with these breakfast places that choose to use frozen hash browns ..George's seems to be the only place that I've been able to find that serves fresh hash browns.... There are two things that a breakfast place needs to have ..good coffee and in my opinion fresh potatoes.... And of course fresh vegetables and fruit....... No clue why I did not write a review before...when it was better. It's a local place that's been around for a long time. I think they are using that to their advantage. They have always given you large portions. Prices have gone up but it is what it is. For two coffees and two breakfast plates it was $40.., also make sure you double check your bill. A person who was paying their bill saw that the bill stated $300.00. Sure things happen but.... Also when you sit down you should have utensils and maybe a napkin. We had to ask a few time for them and than got attitude from the server. The owner and someone else gave us what we needed. Service is ok at best and we went on a week day. Food is good but service is lacking. Also the inside had an odd smell. Unfortunately here in Oak Park no free parking you gotta pay for it... Traditional American Greek family restaurant in a popular suburb. This place has been around a long time and they've recently refreshed the place which is pleasant. Clean, older restaurant. As elsewhere, the prices have gone up quite a bit. Most places we go these days the breakfast and lunch each cost about the same as dinner used to cost us just a few years back. I have ordered from George's twice now, once online pickup and once dining in. Both experiences have been amazing. As a local diner in the middle of Oak Park, this is a great establishment to get some good grub and not spend so much money. Went I went in person, I got the Turkey sandwich meal and some soup for literally $13.00 that's such a stain! I was full - not in terms of the flavors and all that jazz, don't really expect that. This is simple diner food. Not upscale. You add the seasonings yourself (which I don't mind). Would I return? Heck yes! I recommend locals and newbies to go and try it. The best place for breakfast in Oak Park. Everything is good, including the coffee; I am quite partial to their skillets. The Mediterranean is my favorite but, again, they're all good! The staff are great and always there at the right time to refill your coffee. And it's a great example of American diner culture. Georges Family Restaurant was among those recommend in the brochure at our VRBO. We're always looking for a good breakfast place, so I checked out their menu online. I saw just what I was looking for, so we tried it yesterday (Saturday) morning. I'm not sure what the one- and three-star reviewers experienced, but we had nothing but the best service at this longtime (41 years, George - yes the owner - said) restaurant. The food may not win any awards, but it is good, filling, and (as others have written) served very quickly. I need to give a special shout out to our server, Agniezka. She is friendly beyond belief, loves to chat with you, and always keeps your coffee cup filled until you tell her you've had enough. She made the meal special. Today we had our second breakfast there, again served by Agnieszka. We are here for three more nights, and will have three more breakfasts there. We've already determined she will be there tomorrow and Wednesday, our getaway day. read more

We enjoyed our recent Sunday brunch at George's. Quick service (borderline TOO quick, which is saying something since this is usually something I complain about), tasty food--especially the pancakes and french toast--and a quiet space at 8:15 in the morning. We thought the rest of our food was only OK, with the biscuits and gravy being the biggest offender; the biscuits didn't have much heft to them, and the sausage bits weren't that interesting. My main issue with George's is also my main issue with breakfast/diner pricing in general. We ended up spending $75 on this brunch ($63 plus tax and tip). Something about breakfast has really changed for me, and I think it's that I'm less comfortable spending this much money on what is essentially pancakes and OJ for a family of four. The prices at George's aren't that much worse than anywhere else, so I admit to taking out some of my anger in this review. Still, it's hard to stomach, so I think I'm going to stick to making those pancakes at my house in the future, and steer guests to George's who are looking for a good meal on their way into or out of town during visits to see my family. George's Restaurant is indeed is a family-owned restaurant located on one of the main drags in downtown Oak Park (easy-to-remember Oak Park Avenue). My love and I popped into George's on Saturday for a midday meal, and we were seated immediately. There are different seating arrangements in the two adjoining dining rooms - we chose to sit in a cozy booth. The walls are adorned with images of Oak Park, and there is even a functioning old-school cash register (the manager said it dates back to 1944). The giant menu features Greek-style specials. The service was spot on, beginning with the presentation of a complimentary basket of rolls and crackers. My love went Greek-style with the Gyros wrap that included a cup of tzatziki sauce. Soup or salad came with our meals, so she ordered the chicken soup with pasta shells. My meat loaf meal was lathered in brown gravy. There were green beans on the side, and the hash brown-style potatoes were very crunchy. My cup of lentil soup was tasty and comforting. Somehow I ate my entire meal in one sitting, though my love saved half her wrap as leftovers so I did get to try a bite of the gyros the next day. All in all, our no-pretense meal at George's was a fine experience and allowed us to decompress after a very interesting and diverse weekend visit in the 'burbs. read more

We opted for the meatloaf and gyro wrap, and both were generous in size and came with delicious daily soup starters. I could see this is a "regulars" type of place, as a patrons flowed through the doors, clearly familiar with staff. The friendly vibe here is as charming as the food is delicious. Not a big fan. Nothing wrong with old diners, if you are a fan of that, but besides the pancakes (which you can't really screw up), most of the food here is inedible to me. Toast is always burnt and eggs are always runny. Plus parking is usually hard, and the front desk tries to deceive teens and kids on the bill. Luckily I was there to intervene. I went in today not really expecting too much of a hassle, but unfortunately I was met with one. When it was time to get seated me and my party (party of 2) were seated very fast. However that's the end of the good service, our server was an older woman with blonde hair and black glasses and it seemed as she didn't want to serve us nor give us the time of day. We ordered coffee and never received it and she didn't bother explaining the menu when we asked. When it was time to order she didn't look at anyone in the eyes and practically ran when we were done. We noticed her serve other customers with a better attitude and it made us wonder if we did anything to upset her, she was around a party that was larger than ours having conversation and smiling when she couldn't do that to us. When we got our food it was just so awkward and she went back to conversing with the larger table. It took our server 6 minutes to get out to go boxes and she made an offhand comment about not being hungry. Afterwards it took even longer to get our check. The food was pretty average there wasn't really much a complain there. But if you're a person of color I very much recommend not eating here or at least act super whitewashed to get decent service. read more

What an absolutely amazing hidden gem. We were greeted and seated at the counter when we requested that. The young man that greeted us couldn't have been more pleasant. I'm not sure if he was a host, Busser, manager or just a friendly regular that they allow behind the counter and I mean this in the beat possible way. This place just has this super cozy local vibe that's wonderful. The young man got us a half order of biscuits and gravy as a starter even though that's not really on the menu. Our server Jasmine was a delight. She made great recommendations. Jill got the Mexican skillet and I got the Zorba the Greek. Both were fantastic and came with either pancakes or French toast. We each got one and each preferred our pick to the others. Jasmine set us up with a couple of iced teas for the road. Can't say enough good things about this place.
