Stopped in for the brunch and it hit the spot both in taste in presentation. Clearly in head to head competition with it's rival Uncle Bill's across the street. George's seems to shape itself as more of a refined diner as opposed to Uncle Bill's classic look from exterior right down to the menu. George's does that right. I got the limoncello French Toast - Sourdough French toast topped (generously might I add) with Greek yogurt and blueberries. Again the presentation was good. I could taste each ingredient in the breakfast. There were a few other things on the menu that I would consider giving a second go here but there were one big thing that got me. My nemesis -- Cash only decided to show up here. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if I was warned as much as I hate it. On the website it says card is accepted though. Was their machine down? It took about 15 minutes to get two salads which was fine because their phone was ringing off the hook in addition to five couples ahead of us ordering. We both got the Mediterranean Salad with chicken. It is one of the best greek salads I've had. Everything is super fresh and bursting with flavors. After first going to the wrong location (yes, there are 2 George's Place in Cape May), we finally made it for our reservation on a Saturday AM. George's Place is located in a cute little shopping center in Cape May, so it was nice to walk around the shops before and after we ate, and if there was a wait, it's convenient to have options to pass the time. The space is decently sized - there was a large party while we were dining, but there were a good number of open tables, so if we didn't have res, I imagine we would have been seated quickly. Our server was good - attentive enough and importantly, filling our coffee and water when appropriate. The breakfast menu is large, but not overwhelmingly so. It was difficult to decide between sweet and savory - they had excellent options for both! I ultimately went for the limoncello french toast. A lot of times, french toast can be fairly decadent and overly sweet, but I appreciated their use of limoncello greek yogurt (felt healthier) and fresh blueberries (vs a sugary sauce). The bread wasn't the most fluffy, but it was still good and made for a nice portion size (I could finish the dish without feeling overly stuffed). My husband got the crab cake eggs benedict, which he also enjoyed. His might have been a touch more filling than mine, but the flavors were really good and made for a nice, beach-y brunch. The coffee was standard, and as mentioned, appreciated that it was filled appropriately. The pricing was very reasonable (esp for crab cakes), so we didn't break the bank with our brunch, and we were filled up for a number of hours after. First time in downtown Cape May in the winter. The friend of a friend had some dog shopping to do. We were not going to be able to make it to the Mad Batter without waiting at least an hour at noon or so. I was in the hankering for an Eggs Benedict. And was not about to give up on the idea. My 7 person crew wanted to go here because it was on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". I'm typically not impressed by that type of thing, but in this case I should have been. Before we get to food, note this is a small place that can't accommodate too many large groups. Our crew split into two booths. The food was amazing. We went for breakfast, and they had sweet and savory options. Large plate sized pancakes (blueberry for us) topped with confectionary sugar and local maple syrup on the side, generous sides of bacon (more on the floppy side than the crispy side), and a plethora of omelette options (Denver and Jackie-O for us). There were three Benedict options -traditional was amazing and per the eater "the best I've ever had". The crab Benedict got a thumbs up too. Hash browns were crispy. Coffee was solid. Banana French toast was stacked like lasagna, incredibly moist and delicious, and had cinnamon decorations on the plate (nice touch). We were all happy we ate here and would go again if we could. The octopus app had hardly any octopus - would not order again. Salads come with the meal but you don't get it until you get your meal. Meals are very large - I got the crab cakes which were delish. This was my second visit to George's place on Ocean Ave. I had a simple grilled cheese, that was perfect in every way ( bc it had bacon ;)). I loved that it came with salad in addition to fries. Unfortunately I need to knock off a couple of stars since they do not accept Apple Pay, Samsung Pay/Google Pay, Zelle, Cash App or any credit cards whatsoever. However they ironically do accept Venmo and CASH ONLY. It would be nice if there were more of a heads up before you order your meal. I had to run around Cape May finding a working ATM to pay my tab. First thing you should know, it is a cash only establishment. I visited George's late in the evening but it was still busy. The table was by the window and apparently a heater too because the seat and the wall were toasty warm while outside it was blowing cold. There was some imported bottled water on the table, not sure if that's what they served but the water tasted great so I didn't order anything else to drink. It is a Greek restaurant, not an Italian, so I opted for a Greek salad and not Caesar. It had feta cheese, tomato, olives, onions, green peppers and stuffed grape leaves, which were new to me. I couldn't finish it all because the Cajun Salmon Special filled me up first. That was buried under its own garnishes and roasted peppers that added a nice flavor to the salmon. There were also crushed peppers coating the salmon, the Cajun seasoning I suppose. It was very good. I sat there content in a heated seat for a minute, looking out at the dark cold night, imagining the waves crashing just on the other side of the beach dune. We walked by George's Place while exploring the neighborhood around our hotel. We saw a sign that said buy one get one free entrees and took note. Later in the day our family friend recommended trying George's Place which solidified our choice to try it out. We looked through the menu and found a lot of tasty meat options, however, not too many veggie/vegan entree options for my brother. We explained my brother is vegan and they said they were able to accommodate by providing a falafel entree option, Luckily, my brother loves falafel. We asked to substitute tzatziki for hummus (so it's vegan). Thought we explained that he was vegan, we noticed his entree still had feta cheese over his salad. We didn't make a big deal of it; my brother just took off the top layer of his salad (though other vegans might be more strict about this). My husband and I shared a branzino entree and a mixed platter appetizer. My goodness! These entrees were absolutely huge and delicious! The branzino was cooked perfectly - crispy outside and moist flakey inside! Wow! The branzino also came with a large bed of sauteed spinach and a very large side of Caesar or Greek salad - we chose the Caesar and it was delicious! The mixed grill appetizer was definitely a huge entree portion and with a surprise of waffle fries on the bottom. It would have been nice if the waffle fries were served on the side though because the waffle fries were soggy from all the meat juices (some people might like this, but for me I like my fries crisp). Overall, I was really happy with the entree sizes and quality of meats and sides (for the price I would expect larger sizes even with the 50% discount). I would probably prefer half entree options for a lesser cost because staying at a hotel makes heating up leftovers a little tricky or if you would rather order more options to try a variety of things (for example I also wanted to try the octopus but we knew we would not be able to finish it all). We were very welcomed by the server Jaime who was super friendly and nice while helping us and while our order was being prepared. We also happened to meet the owner/manager, Yanni, who was a jokey/interesting character. He shared that he has 13 restaurants within the restaurant group. Another important note is that this restaurant is cash only so be prepared with that before arriving. Four stars because of the issues with the cheese on the vegan entree and the soggy fries but honestly a strong 4.5 experience. read more

Came for a late breakfast and was not disappointed!! I had the Jackie O omelette with perfectly proportioned spinach, tomato and feta throughout. Hash browns were nice and crispy. My husband had the original Gyro which was fresh and perfectly proportioned of lettuce tomato, onion lamb and taziki sauce. His gyro came with a beautifully fresh Mediterranean salad with chickpeas and a light lemon vinaigrette. My favorite part of this delicious meal was the lemoncello French toast that we shared - two slices of Golden French toast topped with lemon Greek yogurt and fresh blueberries. I had the falafel. This was on of the best falafel I've ever had. Big cumin and spice flavor. The falafel balls were perfectly crisp but the inside was moist and tender. Both dishes were served with homemade "French fries" that I need to know how they were made. Hand cut potatoes are often limp and greasy...not these. Crispy outside, tender potato inside. A side salad with a delicious dressing. Day 2 wife had the Turkey & Brie sandwich which she loved the pesto spread. I went for the Mediterranean salad. I wanted to like George's, but with their mediocre prices they needed to have better than mediocre food - and unfortunately it was a little worse. A bit small, George's Place provides a mighty meal. Don't expect to seat your family of 8 -- I think 6 is the max they can do here for one table (and that's tight). Nevertheless, George's Place is an incredible little diner that serves a delicious assortment of omelets, french toast, and other delights. You can't go wrong here.
