Date of Visit: August 2, 2025 8am After a good nights rest, this was a two night stay stop, I went out on a quest to find a breakfast spot. After a stroll to the Washington Street Mall I was on my way back to the motel (The Jetty) and noticed this place was open. It was clean looking from the outside so I decided to give it a try. I was immediately welcomed as I walked in, nice. Looked around to see how the seating arrangements were and notice they had counter seating. Neil like sitting at the counter. A pleasant lady came over and handed me a menu asked what I wanted to drink...orange juice. And the juice came with a glass of water, I needed that and didn't know it. After looking the menu over I chose the western omelette with home fries and rye toast. I must have been one of the first customers of the day cause it wasn't long before I was eating. All I needed was some hot sauce for the home fries and their it was. The portions were generous and toast came out warm just the way I likes it. Cutting into the omelet it was filled, nothing scarce here. I would suggest to get here early, it wasn't long before there was a wait. Not sure if I finished it all but I needed to walk the WS Mall again and work it off. Yes this will be my go to place for breakfast next time in town. Peace. read more

We love everything about the ocean view. One thing we love is I'm a lunch person my wife a breakfast person so we are both happy with our ability to select what we love my wife usually goes with the egg potatoes and sausage special comes w a juice. I loved their gyro platter. Fries were crispy and perfectly done. Iced tea was fresh always a plus. I don't think we have ever had bad service the multiple times we have eaten at OV. Every server has been pleasant and attentive. We love the place and will be back and back again. Oh did I mention right across beach ave across from the beach patrol station. As it can be a busy time during the holidays for breakfast, we decided to try this place across from the beach in Cape May. We were sat quickly and service was fast. Don't expect any fancy or gourmet food here. If you want good old-fashioned eggs and biscuits this is your place . Could tell there were mostly locals and the servers were pleasant . Pretty good experience at this local Cape May cafe. Set across from the Cape May Beach but not too close to see the ocean. Had the build your own omelette with egg whites spinach, and onions. Served with home fries and portion size was enough for a merchant marine coming off a long voyage. We got there early and there was no wait. Staff was friendly. Have been coming to ocean view since I was a kid (20+ years) and can't say I have ever had a bad meal! Soups are always delicious, service is always friendly and they have generous portions and specials. We always make it a point to stop for dinner at least once when we are in town so we were bummed to find that they were only serving lunch and dinner this season. We still made it a point to go for lunch and service was great as usual (less familiar faces than we are used to), shrimp tacos were very enjoyable amongst other lunch fare. Hoping to see dinner available next season, but it still won't deter us from returning! read more

Had heard this place was good so we went in for breakfast. The service was prompt and seats were available--we got right in and ordered. Eggs over easy, pancakes and bacon for me. My girlfriend and I ate breakfast here during our vacation to Cape May in late August 2023. Ocean View is placed right along Beach Ave and only a short walk from many of the hotels. The ambiance was nice and we had a great view of the promenade and beach. It was pleasantly cool and quiet despite being a fairly busy late morning. I ordered the Meat Omelette with Hot Italian Sausage added with Home Fries and Wheat Toast. The Omelette was well done and there was more than enough meat to be filling. We were really looking forward to breakfast here. We were hungry, we had cravings, and we thought this place would hit the spot. Instead, it completely ruined our morning. The only person trying was our waitress... she was kind and clearly overwhelmed, doing everything she could while the rest of the staff stood around making her job harder. The place was busy for the 4th of July, but somehow everyone else around us got their food while we sat there for 40 minutes, waiting on a bagel sandwich and pancakes. Seriously? We were told our food was "being pushed to the front" because it was taking a while to cook. What about a bagel and pancakes takes that long? And if it needed to be pushed to the front, something was already going very wrong in that kitchen. Then when it finally came out, it was trash. My bagel sandwich was cold, the eggs were cold, the bacon was hard, and the bagel was actually burnt. The pancakes? So loaded with raw flour my boyfriend felt sick after one and a half. It was like they didn't even finish cooking them, or just dumped in the cheapest mix they could find and hoped for the best. This wasn't just a bad breakfast... it was the kind of bad that makes you angry, because we waited, we were patient, and we were excited for this meal. And in the end, it felt like nobody cared except for our poor waitress, who was doing her best in a mess of a restaurant. We won't be back. Total waste of time, money, and a perfectly good morning. I'm giving this place 1 star, and that star is entirely for our waitress, because she was the only part of this experience that didn't feel like a total failure. read more

When we were eating breakfast I noticed little black things on my husband's plate. They were ants in the syrup. We were halfway through the meal and said we wanted to leave. I Yelped seafood for the Cape May area and this came up as an inexpensive venue. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it was fine in a pinch. My server was a young guy, very polite and attentive. I was actually hoping for fish and chips, but it wasn't on the menu that I could see. Their lunch specials included soup or salad, 2 bread rolls, 1 side dish and pudding or jello. The seafood bisque came in a cup and was pretty good, served nice and hot - perfect for a slightly chilly day. I went for the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. Actually pretty tasty. The mashed potatoes I ordered as a side dish was a bit bland but nothing a little salt and butter could solve. Overall filling, if not exactly the most imaginative. With an iced tea, the total came to about $15 or so. Tiny parking lot. Some jerk parked over the lines, so he ate up 2 spaces. So very rude. read more

We ordered takeout for lunch while visiting Cape May for a weekend. One of us got the mushroom burger and the other got the sausage wrap. Both sandwiches were delicious. The balance of flavors on the burger were good and it was not overcooked. The sausage wrap was packed with flavor. The roasted peppers and sauce with the spicy sausage were scrumptious and they didn't skimp on the cheese. Our sandwiches both came with fries and a pickle. My family really enjoyed the food in this restaurant and the service was also very good when it came to our server. However I did knock off one star for the initial greeting we received when the hostess came out and dumped the utensils on the table and went back inside. My husband and I did a double take and my young son asked why she was grumpy. This is the first face to welcome you when you arrive - BIG TURN OFF!! But again, our server was so polite and helpful that we let him know we appreciated his energy with a good tip! I chose the Mahi Mahi fish tacos and they were in my top 5 fish tacos for sure!!! A place that has offstreet parking, good comfort food, fast, accurate and pleasant service in a town like Cape May where everything is so transient has to get five stars. 5 stars because in the realm of diners this is a really good one. The menu is varied and they have all the usual staples. The daily specials are very good and the quality and presentation of the food is also very good. I would add the prices are very reasonable for a resort town. Oceanview doesn't pretend to be in the realm of what food critics would call a "five star" but it's good solid food at good prices and service with a smile. I've enjoyed breakfast lunch and dinner here probably numbering 20x. It's always a place I visit when in Cape May. read more

Came here for breakfast one morning with my family at around 830am. The place was not that busy and we got a great table in the shade. Server was over quickly and in a very friendly and cheery mood, which is always good when you've got hungry & chatty kids that like to discuss menu items with the server. Our server was up for the challenge. Kids got what they always get, with my son getting his chocolate chip pancakes, and my daughter getting her french toast with strawberry topping. I got an omelette and my wife got her standard breakfast sandwich. The food came out fast, as this place is essentially a diner, so they know what they are doing. Food quality was good, although I was disappointed in the mushrooms in my omelet being from a can and not fresh. However, that was a minor nitpick as they still tasted good. Kids were enthralled by their food and scarfed it down as though we'd starved them all week long. Sheesh. All in all, this place is an awesome & solid spot for breakfast and I'm sure for other meals during the day too. Give it a shot! read more

Breakfast Combos Best breakfast we had all week. Better pancakes, eggs, hash browns and coffee than Uncle Bill's Pancakes and less expensive too. Just a couple blocks away on Ocean Ave. Also very clean and modern bathroom. Serving Maple syrup with the pancakes would have earned them 5 stars. read more

I recently went to Ocean View for breakfast and it was a great experience. The place was filled up and the service was really good as well as the food. A woman was going around doing coffee refills and its nice to not have to wait so long. I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Cape May. read more

We were in Cape May for a convention and wanted a casual lunch (a.k.a. Not Upscale). Most of our walkable lunch options did not get great reviews. We chose the Ocean View and were relatively pleased with our choice. Service was good as you would expect at any diner. The Patty Melt, American Burger and Shroom Burger were all made with real, fresh ground beef. It wasn't difficult to tell by the texture and taste that these were NOT frozen patties. Fries are made from real potatoes (skin intact) but not heavy on the oil. They taste fresh but quickly cool off and go limp. Maybe they would be better if they were double fried. The fries with gravy were just ok. The gravy was bland and made the fries even soggier. Even with the soggy, limp fries we all enjoyed our fresh (and quite large) burgers on their awesome soft rolls. read more

My wife and I come to Cape May every year with friends and family. We always look forward to having dinner at the Ocean View. It was the only place that serves regular food with great service and excellent prices for a family. We were very disappointed to find that they do not serve dinner anymore. We hope that they will reconsider adding a dinner menu again. Many places serve breakfast and lunch, but only the Ocean View had the greatest dinners with great service, excellent prices and a great view. Please bring back the dinner menu! We miss it!!!! I thought I had written a previous review about this place but I guess i didn't. Last summer i came here for breakfast and it was fabulous. Tonight we decided to come here for dinner and we Had another good experience here! I ordered the southwest burger on a gluten free bun and it was cooked to my liking. In my party we had the soup of the day and two different types of wraps, both which were highly enjoyed. What I like about this place is breakfast is served until 4, and their gluten friendly items. They have gf buns and wraps available so basically any sandwich can be made gf. Definitely check this spot out for good food, cheap prices, large portions, and nice service! read more

We used to look forward to coming here every year. We both were ver disappointed in the quality of food, concern of staff and overall experience. The seafood was not fresh, not cooked well and smelled fishy. Not only mine but the neighboring tables too. The club sandwich, a basic sandwich, was not assembled well, or correctly. The fries were practically burnt and they said there were sides with the $23 unfresh scallops but according to the menu there were.
