If you're looking for a good solid fairly priced breakfast, (eggs,omelets etc.) this is as good as it gets. If you're looking for a gourmet breakfast with fancy names and creative designs you came to the wrong place. It is a local place so be prepared to see a lot of regulars who know each other. The staff is always friendly including the owner. I wish I could give 4.5 stars, since the only complaint was that the hashbrowns were not homemade, but the home fries were so good they almost made up for it. George's spices up the home fries with onions which many places do not do. It is true, the portions are huge! I got a breakfast wrap with egg beaters, feta cheese, spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms. The menu says the wraps are served in a 12 inch tortilla, but I didn't realize how big 12' was until I saw it. My grandmother got the Portuguese sweet bread french toast, and the bread was so thick and fluffy it was great. At George's you get more bang for your buck than anywhere else, considering each portion there is an easy two meals. The wait staff was friendly and I observed that they are great with kids. One last note: they keep your coffee cup filled! George's was well worth the 30 minute trip. read more

George's is one of the best breakfast places I and my husband have found in our travels. Even better: it's in our town. The prices are amazingly reasonable, the food is really good, and the service is cheerful and as fast as possible. Sometimes there is a wait, as diners seem to always come in waves, but even so, the atmosphere is also cheerful and welcoming, so the wait doesn't seem so long. My husband left his backpack somewhere in Gloucester. It was painful we had to go back to pick up from another city the next day. When I saw the pix of Georges on Yelp, I found a good reason to go back. We were not disappointed. We got there around 9:15am, being seated right away. Food are good with big portion. Someone recommended this place to me so I came by to try it out. First thing I noticed was that it was kind of hidden but it did not stop the place from being busy. Once you walk in you can feel the warm atmosphere and fresh coffee. I sat and got a breakfast sandwich. Cheese was fresh and melted perfect, and arranged my home fries in a lovely pattern. The waitresses were friendly and sweet. First time here but Deirdre, Rachelyn and Naomi made a big impression with their professionalism and hospitality. The crew was accommodating and organized. A/C WAY to cold. We sat freezing for over 45 minutes waiting for our food. The last time we were here it was the same. We won't be back.

Their slogan "Hungry... You Won't be" isn't just a catchy slogan.. it is a flat out guarantee. Come in with an appetite because you probably will be full by the time you leave. That's a promise. From what I said you can gather that the portion sizes are probably big. That is 100% correct. Expect to get pancakes the size of your plate, large meat portions, enough eggs to keep you satisfied and a tall cup of juice to get it all down with. The largest meal on the menu, the Dean's Special says "If you dare...", and believe me that's a warning to not take lightly. And aside from classic breakfast favorites, checking out the specials are a great way to try something new and delicious. Prices are pretty fair given the amount of absolutely delicious food you get and the staff are just about the friendliest people you will ever lay your eyes on. If there's anything to complain about, even though there was a renovation for more space, the restaurant is almost always cramped. And sometimes parking can be an issue. But the amazing food and people are well worth any inconvenience you may have getting a table. read more

Simply the best you will EVER find for breakfast! You can get an omelette at any breakfast joint. But it will be made on a flat griddle and be FLAT AND THIN! George's does them in an actual omelette pan (I assume)! They are high (2 inches) and oh so fluffy! I recently got a spinach/mush/feta and could have easily split it with my husband. It's small; clearly a neighborhood place where people come day after day and year after year. The food was hot and portions huge. The coffee wasn't very good, but the food was great. George's is a great local "joint." The guy who freaked out about the strawberries and hash browns is completely out of touch. First of all, hash browns are ALWAYS frozen. You should have ordered the home fries, which are incredible. George's makes no attempt to be flashy or gourmet (go to Sugar Mags if you want that scene); it's just a classic, old school good breakfast. The food is exceptional and the people are the nicest you will find. A place this good has many "regulars" but everyone will feel very welcome. The omlet selections are varied and customers are encouraged to make their own combinations. If the steak is on the menu don't miss it. The Cape Ann Western is always a good bet. Our first stop on our day-cation from Boston. After a harrowing morning getting out the door and the day started we were looking forward to some coffee and a brunch. Finding George's was easy. Finding parking was more of a challenge. It could have been because there was a triathlon going on or because it was a beautiful day and others had similar ideas to us. Anyway, we finally found some street parking and started heading for food. Take note, this is a cash-only establishment, as apparently most of Gloucester seems to be. We read other reviews about the large portions and so split 1 order of the corned-beef hash eggs Benedict with hash browns and multi-grain toast. A cup of coffee for the wife and chocolate milk for the hubbie. ~$12 without tip, indeed a good value, as it had both of us fueled for the start of our day. Food quality was mediocre. Salty, and otherwise bland flavors and we make a better hash at home. Service, while friendly, seemed confused and required revisits to ask about toast, potatoes, and did not know the amounts you get in the different size milks. Most of the patrons seemed locals that knew everybody else's names. They were only a handful or two of tables with extra seats at the bar, but service moves fast - there were no lines, and the place was pretty full. We felt like outsiders there and couldn't wash away the harrowing start like we wished. Next time we go back to Gloucester will be trying other places to eat. read more

I was with a party of six on a Sat am about 10am. They were very busy but seated us within 15 minutes. Everything we ate was homemade, delicious and huge portions. We went yesterday and walked there in the blizzard because we live close by. We've tried other places in town but this is the only breakfast place where they serve real bread -- substantial -- not cheap and squishy. Solid home fires. Excellent food.
