Thanks to the Gloucester cabbie that recommended this gem! We were in town to celebrate a friend's wedding and woke up this morning feeling a little less awesome then the night before. Nothing like a big breakfast to get us right for the 2 hour ride home. This place delivered the goods. Huge breakfast at a very reasonable price. I ordered the Huevos Ranchero, 4 fluffy eggs scrambled with pepper, onions and black olives served with a mountain of cheese covered tortilla chips (nachos I guess) and sour cream and salsa. It does come with a ton of pickled jalapeños on top which normally is right up my alley, just not this morning, however they were easy enough to remove so no biggie. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict Florentino which was the probably the best I ever had, the hollandaise sauce was beyond good, lemony and bright smothering two beautifully poached eggs. We also shared a order of corned beef hash, perfect hangover cure, crisped up to perfection on a flat top grill the way it should always be served. 5 stars for the meal and 5 stars to the cabbie for the recommendation. read more

Since Massachusetts seems to be lacking in the diner department, I was super-excited to discover George's. George's is the ultimate in New England diner experiences, complete with regional delicacies like anadama and linguica, which we definitely don't have in New York. Every time I go, I get a spinach and feta omelet. Mounds and mounds of fresh baby spinach and nice feta are sandwiched between FOUR (not three, but FOUR) fluffy, buttery eggs. As previously stated, I get the anadama, which I then slather with delicious butter. My coffee cup was constantly refilled. I had no complaints whatsoever. I never take breakfast leftovers home, but I could barely eat half my dish, so I did out of necessity. Unfortunately, my dog got at it and is now also a fan of George's. read more

This places is always PACKED which shows just how good it is! It is cash only so be prepared, or you'll have to visit the ATM nearby. We've been here a few times for breakfast and are never disappointed. The service is not overly friendly but is efficient. The coffee is just ok, but the food is DELICIOUS! In particular I had the apple cinnamon pancakes (I think it was on special) and was impressed with how great they were.... hot, fresh, fluffy, and full of flavor! Went in for breakfast, and we were very happy. Friendly staff, great breakfast food, excellent choice of toasts (Portuguese sweetbread toast is the correct choice despite some great options), reasonable prices, and they kept the coffee filled up. This place was exactly what we were looking for. Coming from Maryland and picking a spot solely on reviews and for hometown feel we were very pleased. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There are few places deserving to go beyond a five star rating for being both delicious, plentiful on servings, friendly and most of all, easy on the wallet. George's Coffee Shop is one such place. They may close a little too early in the day but during the time they're open from 5 AM to 3PM you're able to get both lunch and breakfast that entire time and nothing is better than first thing in the morning Chicken Fingers and French fries.. Fantastic breakfast spot. Sat at the counter with wife and son. Wife and I shared eggs with linguica, home fries, Portuguese toast and a blueberry pancake with real maple syrup. (Upcharge). The eggs were cooked just right, the linguica sausage was so tasty! The blueberry pancake was massive but really good, not just big, but very tasty loaded with blueberries. Son had breakfast burrito which was massive. The food was served hot, fast, high quality, tasty, large portions and fairly priced. Service was excellent. I see why they are highly rated. I won a National Championship at this place. Yes, it's that good. Has anyone had the Steak & Cheese Benedict? It was one of the specials and it was amazing. The wait is worth it. What a great place to enjoy Sunday breakfast. Food was very fresh, very good and huge portions. It was entertaining to sit at the counter and watch the cooks' choreography as they put out massive amounts of food. The waiting line was still long after we left at noon. I had an omelet ... Custom ingredients and perfectly cooked. The pancakes are giant. Waitresses all young and sweet, and working together as a team to help each other serve. Sweet bread french toast, the most deliciously crisp and smoky bacon I have ever had, and onions already in the home fries!!! I'm in love. I could not have asked for a more satisfying breakfast. Interesting specials too. My sister got the steak bomb omelet special and i am not exaggerating when i say it was the biggest monster omelet i have ever seen. Lots of people mentioning the huge portions and leftovers of their great items like steak n cheese omelets and all that stuff has been a given for me. Lately I have been avoiding eating out, however, as I'm trying to be a bit more on the healthy side. I find breakfast can me the hardest meal of the day to get right and since it's so important to start off on the right foot it was just easier to avoid eating out entirely. HOWEVER this morning the wife and I stopped in unexpectedly. I explained to the server about my low calorie vegetarian diet, asked if maybe I could egg beaters but only use 2 eggs worth instead of the usual 4 and she suggested I should try an egg white omelet. It was fantastic. Mind you, I was expecting to be able to order plain egg beaters as stated on the menu, and I knew my half-sized order would be a strange one but when she presented the unlisted egg white option my heart skipped a beat. Only this time not due to cholesterol. The omelet came stuffed with fresh baby spinach with just a perfect amount of wilting, onions, and fresh diced grilled tomatoes. I asked the server to hold the potatoes and bring a side of multigrain toast. As someone who has worked in a kitchen before I understand how difficult it is to make an overstuffed omelet WITHOUT cheese and have it hold together well, and this one did. Still, there were veggies left at the end which I piled on high my unbuttered toast and it was fantastic. The coffee was good enough to drink black and offers to refill were frequent. My wife got steak and eggs, and her steak came exactly as ordered - raw in the middle. She was ecstatic as many places around here shy away from serving undercooked meat, or misinterpret what is meant by "black and blue" or "very rare." When a 2nd server/backup came around to refill our waters, she noticed my wife had just cut into the steak and double-checked that it was cooked to her liking. Gloucester has an over abundance of wonderful breakfast places! Friends raved about it so we tried it. Cheesesteak omelette was pretty awesome. Basically a cheesesteak sub with an egg instead of the bread. My husband ordered Dean's Special and the French Toast alone could have fed a family of 4! Huge portions. He loved the coffee as well. The place was very busy. Could have been a little classier but vintage walk-in really amazed me. Everyone was very friendly but this place is clearly geared towards locals.
