We went to dinner tonight and were very disappointed with the food. It was all very over cooked. The deep fried items were burned and not appetizing. The shrimp was 90% breading and 10% shrimp. The meat and vegetables appeared to be fresh, crisp, and clean The menu was quite limited with common American Chinese food items missing. Prices were higher than typical. Okay Chinese food at best. It's never been great, but seems to have gone downhill lately. It's sad that there aren't really good options for Chinese food around here. I was really disappointed in this place. To give it credit, it just wasn't what I was expecting. The place was packed so people really enjoy it. Also, it seemed really fresh. My issue was my order not being what I expected or what I asked. First, I asked for sauce on the side and it was on my meal. I will say the chicken looked hand bartered. Second, I ordered lo mein and my noodles were clear. They were wet in a salt water looking sauce and pretty salty. It was not what I think of when I order lo mein. It didn't look appealing, but it was warm. Now that I know it's a restaurant that is not something I would enjoy I won't be back. Like I said though, overall the customer service was great, the food looked fresh, it just wasn't appealing to me. read more

The good is wonderful! My hubby and I drive from Ellensburg for lunch! Service is so great. We have tried the almond chicken, pork chow mien, Mongolian beef and egg fu young All were excellent! Easily the worst chinese food I have ever had. Luke warm, watery sauce and meat tasted like it was old boiled meat. I would not return and would recommend any other place you can find. 4 stars, I work in an environment where 5 stars means absolute perfection. That doesn't mean George's Wok isn't perfect, it is a sit down, down to Earth, "back in the day", type restaurant. I had the pleasure of dining of the #7 - almond chicken, sweet and sour pork, side of fried rice. Nailed it! The sauce for the sweet and sour pork wasn't the typical "box sauce, just add water" type of sauce. Instead, there were a multitude of orange zest that popped with every bite, it was tangy, sweet, and sour. The menu is 1 page front and back, which i like for simplicity. The hardest thing about eating out, is being overwhelmed with options. While I was there with my 6 year old son, our waitress and two other families complimented him on his behavior. Wow. I wish I could give this place a zero. This was absolutely the WORST food I've ever had!!! And not just Chinese food...any food. I am so sorry I went by the ratings posted here. Who would ever give this place high ratings, much less 5 stars??? I don't understand. Now I know why no one was at the place, which should have been a red flag. The so called chow mein came from a CAN. Seriously, a can! No real chow mein noodles except for the crunchy type they put under the runny chow mein mess. And all the food had no flavor at all, and tasted the same, which was bad. I was also surprised that the tea was served with a coffee cup. This was supposed to be a Chinese restaurant, right? Yummy Chinese food served at George's Wok. Parking was easy. Small cafe atmosphere, clean but dated. Quiet, no music (a good thing). Silverware has a good feel. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food ingredients were fresh. The number 6 filled a craving - egg roll, sweet & sour shrimp, and chicken chow mein. The egg roll was crispy and came with a light sauce. The S&S shrimp was perfect - breaded the way I like it and with plenty of sauce. I took the chow mein home for dinner, but not before a few bites while the crispy noodles had crunch. Still great tasting 5 hours later. Husband enjoyed his egg foo yung, fried rice, and chow mein. This is a good place for meeting friends and having a quiet conversation. read more

I do not know what has happened to the quality of their food but will not be going back. I have gone here for 20 years but my last two trips the food has been very bad. The only that tastes the same is the salad dressing. I loved their chow mein but it doesn't look or tastes the same. This is the only Chinese I would come for dinner in Yakima, not 100% Chinese food but since I grow up in a small town what do I know, my husband come from California which is everywhere are Chinese but he still think this place is the best so far in here because the food are make as order with the freshest veggies, we come here for Xmas I had the Yaki Niku it was great, the beef marinated in teriyaki sauce, he have the NY steaks, my mom and dad try the Yaki Tori (grill chicken breast with teriyaki glaze); the customer service was good. Holly crap this place prices remindes me of all the over priced menus in yakima and I wonder how they all convinced people to spend all this money for food. Its about 7 bucks for egg rolls on the appetizer menu. Thats crazy. I know its hard to open and run a restaurant. Its tough to stay above water and make money. But thei think the key to growing a customer base is first you got to have great food. Then you have to have the great prices for said great food. Great food at a great price means great costumers. Currently the best in town but barely in the city. Twenty minute drive for me but sometimes I'm out that way at Rosaur's (local stores near me are full of low life scum). Interesting menu. Chinese with some of those dishes George had a long time ago when he owned other places like yaki niko. Food is consistent unlike the other Chinese joints that are up and down but mostly down.
