This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Yakima for years. The atmosphere is very homey, with a cheerful, friendly staff who are accommodating and helpful. I appreciate that their hot green tea is served in a nice full mug- perfect for rainy days or when the season turns colder. I have never had a bad meal here, and their sushi is probably some of the best you can find in Yakima. Their rolls come in a good variety of raw and fully cooked options, and the nigiri is very fresh. My favorites are the New York roll and the volcano roll. Was a family favorite, came at least once a week to get together and enjoy our day off. The hosts (mostly the woman) became friendly with us and joked with us. We did not double check the bill until suddenly our regular bill of 70 became 88. We weren't consistent with our meals and added drinks sometimes so we weren't concerned then 90 came to 100. We were shocked and looked at the receipt that were just scribbles. We looked at all our meal costs and it did not add up. They came so friendly they began ripping us off. They smiled their way into our trust. These people are two faced. My parents are hard workers and loved this place and cared for the hosts. So upsetting they'd f*ck over my parents this way. Have still came for sushi at times since it's the only place in Yakima for non crap sushi. Everything else is crap though now. Changed their quality of food. They always get orders wrong even the sides. Sucks when you go home thinking you have two hot sauces but one sweet one. Ruins the meal. Stop using ranch!!!! Make your own teriyaki salad dressing! Anyone who knows me knows how much I truly love this place (if you don't believe me, check my instagram posts). I have lived in Yakima my whole life and recently moved to the Tri Cities area, but I always find myself driving back to Yakima to visit this place. I've tried sushi at soo many different restaurants (both in Yakima, Tri Cities, and Seattle) but this place remains my favorite. I have never been disappointed by a sushi dish there - even their specials are super fun and tasty every-single-time. The staff are incredibly nice and although they can get busy (which is a good thing in my eyes), their service is still quick and efficient. They always greet you so enthusiastically when you arrive or call. The sushi chef is very approachable and friendly as well if you get the chance to sit at the bar near him. They offer carryout and the quality is just as good (and fast). You get large portions of food no matter how and what you order. Plus, you can't beat the prices. Side note: all of their food is delicious - not just the sushi. The Teriyaki Bowls are a local favorite and the Crunchy California Roll is actually deep fried (most places just put a crunch around the roll, so I'm glad they do this differently). The Yummy Roll and the Spicy Teriyaki Chicken and Gyoza combo are my go-to dishes. I also really like ordering Kimchi and Gyoza on the side. I ALMOST don't want to give such a good review because this place is a hidden gem in downtown Yakima, but I highly recommend giving them a try! read more

Service was ok but not great. I asked if I could pay before my meal arrived because I was in a bit of a hurry and was told that no I had to wait and pay at the end. I ordered spicy pork teriyaki - it cost 50 cents more for spicy which was clearly stated on the menu, but I don't really understand why. There was a set of cards on the table that explained some sushi terminology which was fine, but included was a card that said you should tip 15% if the service wasn't great but 20% if it was alright. I didn't really care for the card that was telling me to tip more than normal. I've always gone by 10% for lunch and 15% for dinner. The food was ok but combined with the not great service and paying extra for some spicy goodness I won't be rushing back here any time soon. The New York Teriyaki in Union Gap is much, much better in my opinion. read more

Great place. I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely friendly and courteous husband and wife owners who seated and served me. It was a nice, laid-back atmosphere with 50's and 60's big band type music playing. My only gripe is that I got forgotten for a couple of minutes after I got seated. I had the sushi heaven combo for $18.95, and it was excellent. Overall the quality was about what I expected, nothing spectacular but at the same time still high quality. I'm a very particular sushi eater. The Unagi was still warm so I knew it had been freshly barbecued. The crab roll was real crab, and the tuna hand roll was excellent. I was amazed with the amount of fish they gave me. I'm used to hand rolls that are a pretty normal bite-size, but these were very large, almost too big for one bite. I would definitely come back here again, I had a very good experience. The prices were reasonable and the food was very good. read more

I know- when you think of New York, you immediately think "teriyaki," don't you? My husband and I used to make fun of this name and one day decided to try it. Glad we did! My favorite part of NY Teriyaki is that they have brown rice. I order all of my sushi with brown rice, and my nigiri, too! They gladly make it to my preferences. My husband gets the chicken teriyaki, brown rice, no sauce (can you tell we are health nuts?) and they gladly make that as well. The spicy scallop nigiri is awesome, as is the Philly roll (unfried, please). The only menu item I don't recommend is the miso soup. It smells like feet (and I typically like miso soup) and it's rare that you'll get a chunk of tofu. Save your $2 on this. Sketchy area, but they can't help that. I absolutely love this NYT location. The staff is always so sweet and helpful, I adore them. They're just so great and always quick, I've never had bad service in the slightest. Also, I've never had food that wasn't up to par here. It's always good, never any less than amazing. I've been to multiple NYT locations and this is by far the best. The food is good, pretty much the same you can expect at any other NY Teriyaki. The serving staff is usually pretty good too. The issue I have is when you call for take-out they grill you about where they are located, sometimes to the point of being a little rude. (I understand they probably get accidental orders placed meant for other locations but there has to be a better way.) Apparently they don't have a dedicated fax line either, I called and I connected to a fax from my cell phone. So I wait a few minutes and call back on my work phone, connect to fax again but someone also answers, they tell me to hang on. They switch phones thinking that will stop the fax I guess. That doesn't work, they tell me to call back. I call back and get busy signal twice. Then my cell phone rings, it was busy because the lady answering the phone was trying to call my cell number (She got from caller-id?) I guess. If it wasn't for the convenience of the location, I would get takeout somewhere else simply to save myself the irritation of feeling like I'm in some goofy sitcom. I suggest you EAT IN. read more

Good price for a decent meal.. tried it once and I think that's good enough. Service was quick which was absolutely amazing due to have little time to eat that day. The owner is very cool along with a wide selection of Japanese, Korean and American food. The teriyaki is "americanized" but it is awesome for what it is. We love this place! We go to the one on N. 1st street only. Every couple of weeks we have a 'date night' and we always get sushi! The volcano roll topped with hot salmon is delicious and the dynamite roll is one of my boyfriends favorites! I am in love with the caterpillar roll which is cooked eel (unagi) and avocado with a couple tasty sauces - it's always been one of my favorites. We also love the special bento here! It's 10.00 and you get a ton of chicken or pork Teriyaki on a huge serving of rice with 3 pot stickers, 2 California roll pieces, 2 nigiri, and a small salad. That with a sushi roll is always enough for me and my boyfriend and were stuffed! The prices are great compared to other places I've tried in the area since moving up here about 8 months ago. The miso soup is good, I like how they have the broth and then add everything else to it when it's served, it seems home made as opposed to from a bag or can. The area that this place is in, is not the 'nicest' side of town but it really can't be helped, just lock your car doors or get it to go (which we do) If you haven't gone but you're thinking about it, DO IT! :D read more
