Who doesn't like their clothes looking perfect on them, like they were custom designed exactly for your body? Miss Lee is the most amazing at alterations. I've been coming to see Miss Lee now for quite some time- and to say that she's the best after time and time again- well I could say it for forever. She has done everything from work shirts to ball gowns for charity events and her turn around time is absolutely to die for. Time is precious around these parts of Nova especially when you have so many other social extra curricular activities... Ok who am I kidding?! Boozing with our friends obviously. She's been able to hem and turn around pants in less than an hour, take in ball gowns in less than a day, and whatever other service you or need she can do. The pricing is fantastic- for an emergency hem and taking in the waste she only charged me $35. That's nothing for less than an hours worth of service. The only obstacle: finding this place. This place is a whole in the wall- up a flight of stairs kinds of place. If you are looking for that shi-shi, let me serve you a glass of champagne type of place: this is not it. This place has character. Pictures behind the counter, a few little stalls set up for changing purposes, and her cute little asian accented voice yelling in the back "hey bay-bay!!! What you want?! These ladies are really great! Ms. Lee is sooo fast when I try my pants on and they're always perfect when I pick them up. I never know what she's saying to me except "baby" and "honey" and that's part of what I love SO MUCH! $10 for an easy hem and $20 if you want jeans hemmed and the cool-I-didn't-have-these-hemmed look. I came here based on the stellar reviews on her handiwork. This place is hidden up a small narrow staircase, so you'd definitely miss it if you weren't actively looking for it. The little shop itself is very worn down, paint and wood chippings are coming off and onto the floors. Since no one is standing near the entrance, you might have to call or wave someone down in the backroom if they haven't seen you come in already. I don't mind the wear and tear of the place, I think it definitely gives it character! The two women who work here also are very nice and enthusiastic. They definitely keep a positive attitude! I came in for a simple 3 inch hem on a plain cotton A-line dress and it was $40 cash only (it would have been $45 if I wanted double stitching with two lines, instead of one). They don't have a set price on any garments, so they just eyeball it and give you a price off of that, which seems unfair to me but given their reasonable prices, I guess I can't complain (although, I've been to similar Asian-owned alterations shops in Chicago who never charge more than $20 a piece). She'll give you minimum one week to get it back, but anything less than 7 days and it might be a rush order (extra $$). Upon receiving my dress, I can tell her work is clearly done with attention to detail since she's very nimble and talented at what she does. However, again, there doesn't seem to be a method to the madness. She asked for the receipt of my item, but she obviously didn't know which piece of clothing was mine just reading off the receipt (it only had "3 inches" and "$40" written on it), so she looked at the receipt and then asked me what I dropped off, which I thought defeated the purpose of the customer's receipt (she has an exact copy attached to the piece of clothing you bring in). TLDR; These women are VERY talented at what they do, but the storefront and business method could use some work since they don't have a set method of pricing, nor do they have a great retrieving system. But I am satisfied with their services and hopefully I'll come back soon! read more

Miss Lee is an American hero. When people talk about the "real America" I don't think they understand that actually it is Miss Lee's establishment. A small business run by a hardworking immigrant--that's what made this country what it is. She is funny, and friendly, and does excellent work. She has worked on some unusual fabrics and done non-standard work and always comes through with brilliant crafts(wo)manship. Some people say it's pricey, which it is, but it is well worth the price. It is a wonderful experience there every time. I go with other people who are getting things tailored just to hang out in the waiting room. I just need to find a way to get my picture on the wall. Come for the tailoring, stay for the laughs. Ms. Lee is great at what she does, and is hilarious to boot. She calls everyone "baby", and is not shy about giving her opinion of the work you want done. Take your wedding dress elsewhere! Ms. Lee's came highly recommended when I was looking to have my wedding dress hemmed. After reading the reviews, I took the plunge and took my dress to them. The ladies are so very nice and I wanted to love their work - unfortunately, it was terrible...and expensive. What should have been a nice, clean rolled hem on a crepe gown was, instead, a spotty and poorly done machine stitch. The store has a sign asking customers to let them know if there is a problem...I didn't. I don't trust them to touch my dress for another moment. I feel insulted that they would do such an obviously poor job on such an incredibly important item. read more

However, she is quick in assessing what you need altered (probably less than 10 seconds for her to see where my pants needed hemming and knew exactly where they needed to hit the ground with my heels on). I've been taking my clothes to Ms. Lee for a few months now. She never disappoints with fixing my jumpsuits/dresses so that they fit better with my shape (hourglass/pear). I've become a regular here. Anytime a shirt or a coat doesn't fit, I being it in because they're so cheap. I had all my work shirts tailored for $15 a pop. New coat that was too wide. Jackets. Shorts. Pants. They do it all and they're honest if they thing something will cost too much to be worth it. To have a suit jacket taken in they charge $25. For a big wool overcoat they only charged $30. I've had pant legs taken in because they were too baggy-$15. Their speed of work in the fitting area still is a bit overwhelming and people are generally on top of each other fighting over their one mirror. But as I said in my review two years ago, if you take your time and make sure you communicate what you want, you'll get it. And if you don't, they'll fix it with no questions asked, and almost always while you're waiting. read more

amazing, amazing results! just picked up a vintage gown that I had altered because it was at least 4 sizes too big ... took less than a week and the results are perfect. I can't wait to look flawless in my dress! this place came highly recommended and I will 100% highly recommend it to anyone. well worth the adventure into georgetown. also, the two times I was here, so we're other clients, and they were having fun, candid conversations with ms. lee, which was awesome to see how personal she is with her clients. next time I need something fixed, definitely coming here. I have to edit this, upon further inspection of my clothes. Yesterday I had mixed feelings and thought it was an "okay" place to go, but last night, as I was pulling old threads out of the dress they had let out (guess they don't take the old threading out before stitching it up again) I noticed a hole about an inch and a half long in one of the side seams that I guess they forgot to close. There should not be a NEW hole in my clothes when I pick them up from a tailor!!! Also, don't expect your clothes to be pristine when you get them back - the clothes waiting to be picked up are sitting in piles on the floor. This bothered me, especially since two pieces I brought in are vintage and over 50 years old. read more

Ms. Lee and her staff are some of the best tailors I have tried. While other tailors fumble with the pins, their expertise quickly becomes apparent when during the fitting, their experienced fingers skillfully sliding pins into the fabric. I moved to Boston six months ago and still haven't found a tailor that could match the skill level and price point, so once I knew I would be in town for a weekend, I brought an ill-fitting shirt and dress to Mrs. Lee to have the waist and shoulders taken in. She understood my time constraints and managed to turn it around in 2 days! That being said, pinning may not always be perfect, so do try on your item before bringing it home. Check your hems to make sure they are even, check your fit to make sure that the fabric fits well and doesn't pull when you move your arms around normally. Make sure you are happy with what you get - if not, they are happy to fix your problem either on the spot or for a later pick-up at no additional cost. read more

Don't judge this place by its looks because despite the looks of the building and the inside they do quality work. You can drop off your suit pants to get hemmed and they'll do it in a few minutes for only $10. I've also dropped off a bridesmaids dress here for hemming and they did a great job. I've been a patron of Georgetown Alterations over the last decade. Anyone who's visited this hole-in-the-wall on Wisconsin Avenue knows that it's a Washington institution -- evident by the collage of notable clientele gracing the walls. Ms. Lee (actually they're four sisters) is precise and efficient. I know of no other tailor who can make a suit fit like a glove in a 45-minute turnaround. There's one caveat: Ms. Lee is in very high demand, and that's especially so on weekends. I advise heading over mid-week if you can find the time. And all services are cash-only! read more

Ms. Lee helped me take a dress that was frumpy, baggy and just overall unflattering to the most flattering dress I own. This was a long sleeved, heavy fabric dress and she was able to bring in the sleeves to look more fitted as well as the fabric through the bust and hips. I lived around the corner for years and heard neighbors talking about how great she is, but now I know for myself. I will definitely be bringing in other clothes. You will put on your garment (bridesmaids dresses for me), she will make a couple of hash marks in chalk and throw a few pins in it and you're done. Gave 4 days notice for a simple quarter inch hem on a dress and was charged $45 ($30 for hem, $15 for "rush"). Ridiculous. Picked up dress and it was beyond wrinkled (dress was basically balled up in a plastic bag). I don't understand why this place has glowing reviews. Will not be returning. read more

Went about 2yrs who. Hadn't been in a while as I no longer live in the DMV area. Ms. Lee as usual was friendly and stayed that she hadn't seen me in a while. Ms. Lee will have you going from sally the frumpy girl to beyonce in a minute. She has the hands of god when it comes to alteration. I have a weird figure so i need someone who knows how the nip, split, cut and tighten an outfit on me where i am able to decent walking out my house in. I have taken several pieces to her to include: dresses, suits, jumpsuits, maxi, pants, jeans, the whole nine and they come out really good. Customer service is great. She listens to you and gives u realistic expectations. She is funny as heck. I have used Ms. Lee since about 1989 my tour in DC. You can get something done in a few hours. You cannot beat her prices. Go to Jos A Banks or Macy's and you will not get the quality or the quick turn around. I suggest one parks at the Georgetown Park Garage and walk up to her location. Excellent alteration service at very reasonable pricing! I needed to pinch a skirt in from size 2 to 0, and Mrs Lee got it done flawlessly within 1 Hr -- which was lightning fast because the alteration involved working with a zipper. She even took the time to make sure the pattern connects symmetrically at the zipper. This is the kind of attention to detail that I appreciate and it shows how much pride Mrs Lee takes in her line of work. She is super cute and friendly too! I love how she calls everyone baby! Haha. Ms. Lee runs Georgetown Alterations Express Services in what seems to be a run down apt off Wisconsin ave in Georgetown but the plethora yelp reviews and gogo artists autographed headshots made me feel she knows her stuff and is no run down. Parking can be tricky depending when you go- its Georgetown, people. I brought a dress to get hemmed and she offered to do it on the spot for $20 if I didn't mind waiting a few minutes. While $20 to hem a simple cotton dress is pretty steep, I reminded myself "this is georgetown", I was in no position to whip out a sewing machine to do it myself (aint nobody got time fo'that), and wanted the dress within a week so after she offered to do it then and there, I happily obliged, no rush I told her! Within minutes, I tried on the dress and the length was much better on my 5 foot 1 frame. Upon further examination of the work, it was average at best, crooked seams and thread started pulling and dress is hard to walk in without feeling like a mummy. Either I should have waited a day or two to pick up so that she could take her time and maybe did a better job or said something but I just wanted to get out of there. I did not feel confident going back with my higher quality pieces for tailoring. Ms. Lee may have been a-ok in a pinch to hem on the spot but quality of work was more meh and thankfully it's a cheap cotton dress that no one will be looking at the bottom but it definitely needs to get done by someone who knows better and will take my higher quality/more expensive pieces elsewhere. read more

Pros: - My pants were hemmed well, but that doesn't take very much skill. Cons: - I had asked them to take a dress in at the waist, and it looked awful -- baggy and misshapen. They refused to fix it. - I had asked them to make another dress longer (extend the hem), and they for some reason raised the slit in the back so that it reached almost to my butt. Why?? - All this ran me at over $80, to be paid in cash. - A customer exposed himself to me in the dressing area, and later as I was paying shoved his phone into my face, with a photograph of his genitals. I recognize that's not the store's fault, but I will not be back. read more

Ms. Lee did a great job on my dress. If I wasn't in such a hurry, I probably would have had her to alter it again. I needed the shoulder straps in my bridesmaid dress to be taken in. Although she pinned it where it needed to be, it was still super loose, so I had to have a friend pin it. I will most likely go back to have to slacks altered, because I have friends that used her and they loved the work she did. Plus, she's somewhat convenient to work. I brought in a designer pair of jeans for a simple hem and had a terrible experience. Hoping that this review will help to inform others who are considering Georgetown Express for similar services. First, when I came to pick up my jeans, Ms. Lee wasn't working that evening and the others working there could not find my jeans because the area behind the counter was completely disorganized. I was told to come back when Ms. Lee was working for a $5 discount which was the only positive part of the experience. I finally received my jeans on my second visit only to notice when I got home that the hem was completed horribly. There are 1 inch holes at the bottom of both pant legs above the hems as well as other frays around in the hem. My brand new (expensive) jeans are now ruined because a new hem above the holes will make them too short. :( read more

I don't recommend this place. I brought in a $40 dress that I purchased on sale and they wanted to charge me $70 to get a 2-inch basic hem.

It only took an hour to get the sleeves on my suit shortened and the sides taken in!!! Ms. Lee knew exactly what I was looking for.
