The therapists are the best. They really listen and challenge participants in getting through their struggles. I've been in Intensive Outpatient Program, have been touched by the openness of the group, and would go back if I needed it. Kay Brady in particular really saved my life. I don't understand the negative reiews but perhaps those that people were in the inpatient program. read more

Been calling for 2 days and can't get the unit my daughter is in to answer the phone so I can find out any information.

Do not, I repeat do NOT send your loved ones here if you want them to get any real help. My loved one had an issue with a medication they were taking falling below therapeutic levels and was having concerning symptoms over the weekend and their regular psychiatrist was unreachable and since we had just recently moved to the area we took him to this facility on the recommendation of a family friend that was a therapist saying it was not as bad as other places but I can't imagine any being worse. First we go to intake and in the room there are two plastic chairs covered in someone's ripped out fingernails (like the whole nail) in the creases of the chairs. Most of the staff at intake looks like they could be patients themselves with multicolored hair and an angry looking gangster dude named Reggie covered in gold chains like a wanna be pimp. Our loved one is on the autism spectrum and needed my help with intake and I had to sign him in and do his paperwork ( this will be important to note for later in the review) after five hours of intake he's finally admitted on a Saturday. No one from this facility called me at all. It would take me several calls to even be able to get ahold of him there and he was getting no help, no labs had come back in 4 days time and no medication changes had been made in those 4 days and he never saw an actual doctor only a student in training named Nick. This place is a joke and they never gave him his hygiene bucket so he had not showered or brushed his teeth in days while staying there and when confronted about it they said well he didn't smell bad. I told the on Tuesday afternoon I am signing him out and will put him under the care of his regular psychiatrist. Here is where it got really scary folks, even though I had signed him in they are now telling me I can't sign him out and he could be there for ten days (not getting help and scared). The following day I finally got a nurse with a heart named Candice that helped me and understood the situation and got a female therapist involved that tracked down the dr on the floor also a female and they all agreed this was not the facility for him and not helping his situation so they allowed him w the counselor help to sign himself out and I went to pick him up and after five days of billing our insurance over $1,000 a day they had no blood work back still from labcorp and had not in any way changed his meds which looking back is likely a blessing as incompetent as they all were. This place should be shut down for neglect and mismanagement. We were very lucky we got him out before he was seriously harmed but I never want anyone to be in that situation so consider this your warning to find a better facility even if it means driving to Dallas (UTSW has a great facility with top doctors and nurses) avoid Georgetown behavioral health. I could see this place being in the news in the future and hope some reporter goes in undercover to expose them for the insurance fraud and neglect to patients needing care happening in plain sight. Even one star is too much for this place that looks like a setting from a horror film. If you want to help your family member and not make them worse take them elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible. They cannot answer their phones. Called 10 times today to follow up on the medical status of my son and they simply won't answer. During admission process they left us alone for over an hour due to shift change. Mind you during a mental emergency - and no one went over the paper work , reviewed or explained it. These sort of places need to have better oversight to ensure patients are protected and actually receive the help they need. read more

This is just a prison you pay for. They chew you up and spit you out without a thought for the reason you're there, which is mental health intervention and care. Some of the staff are fantastic; others are callous, needlessly cruel and clearly uninformed on mental illnesses. In response to my descriptions of having an ongoing panic attack, I was told "A pretty girl should never feel depressed" and "if you [unalive] yourself, you'll only spend eternity in a bad place." You will spend more time wishing you could leave than time you will spend healing from whatever you're going through. This place is merely a profit focused conveyer belt. read more

I was hospitalized here at the end of last year. I was in the Longhorn unit, which is essentially general population. I was having a severe episode, I had already been sleep deprived for about a week prior to my arrival. Due to me being a drinker, I was placed on a detox schedule which included regular blood pressure checks. The difference between the day and night time staff's skill level is atrocious. The night time staff was mostly immigrants who were focused on completing their job over the patients' well being. I was woken up multiple times in the middle of much needed sleep for them to attempt to take my blood pressure. The equipment was faulty and many times did not work; so I would essentially have my sleep disrupted and would not be able to go back to sleep for no reason. In these cases where the equipment failed, they would come back and retry a few hours later. This made me lose sleep for roughly 10 days. In addition to this, the food that the staff continually signaled the patients to eat was not cooked / stored properly, and food borne illness arose. About five other patients including myself had food poisoning and were vomiting and having diarrhea. This is a major health and quality control issue. Even the staff, when asked, they said they don't eat the food, and in particular, "every time [they] do it messes with [their] stomach" I was told from one of them. I have been to this hospital multiple times and this has happened to me twice. The food poisoning and the night time staff interrupting definitely made it difficult to get rest and put my body on high alert, which was already an issue with my condition that I came here to get help for. For some reason, they postponed raising the dose of my drugs though I needed it for about a week, so I couldn't stabilize. The staff would gaslight their patients and make them doubt what's actually happening. In particular, a certain nurse and his coworkers were watching me essentially pace and talk to myself for hours and when I said sorry for doing so, unnecessarily but I was in an episode, they claimed that I wasn't doing so. And tried to make me doubt what was happening. Group therapy sessions were not helpful nor therapeutic as they consisted of basic common sense criteria that anyone, even in poor mental shape, could figure out on their own. The 'doctor' all the patients saw was not an actual doctor, but a nurse practitioner. There was never a doctor on the floor. Since I had been there before, I remembered what Dr. Leon looked like and he was nowhere to be found. I asked the staff about this and to see if I could see him and said he wasn't here, and they lied to me and said he was here on the floor with them. He was not. The staff had broken rules on cigarettes. The hospital had a policy of no sharing at the time. However, some staff didn't care and would let you share. Certain tech's take on the rule changed over time. Sometimes it was fine, other times it wasn't. And this lack of clarity, came back to bite the patients in the butt, as these staff members would go around accusing patients of breaking the rules and would attempt to punish them; even though they said it was cool. Ultimately, the hospital shortstaffs their wards. They have an over supply of cheap techs and nurses, and a lower supply of NPs and doctors. As far as I could tell, it appeared 1 doctor was stretched to manage 4 separate wards. At other hospitals I've been to, there are multiple doctors per ward. This is ridiculous. It seems like the business is more concerned with saving money, than they are about ensuring the quality of the care you receive. I saw multiple agitated homeless folks without insurance get prematurely released back to the public; yet those who had insurance, were kept. Instead of transferring agitated patients to wards with more supervision and support, the hospital shamelessly endangers the public and the patient by releasing them back into the world. Toward the end of my stay here, I was not given a strong enough dose to stabilize, so I left here still in the severe episode. They also sent my medicine to the wrong pharmacy even though we verified which one to send it to and I showed them via google maps exactly where it is. For some reason they kept me on a drug that did not make sense at all with my condition; a simple google search would tell you this drug could make things worse for patients in that particular state of mind. Their failed attempt to treat me, ultimately resulted in me having to go to a different mental hospital a few weeks later. Coincidentally upon arrival to the next hospital, I was reunited with multiple patients that were also treated at GBHI during my stay. Beware of going here. This hospital sucks and it isn't cheap. If you go here, you will see the shortcomings of this business in your moment of vulnerability and suffer because of it. read more

Staff making fun of patients, no nurse if there is an altercation - meaning no meds. I am still having nightmares. It should be shut down! Constant 24/7 screaming, fighting, vulgarity I have never experienced. The psychiatrists are a joke. And Margaret @ the front desk in the Bravo unit literally screams at the top of her lungs at patients that ask her anything. So rude, unprofessional and I wanted to kill myself ever more after discharge. Shut it down!! read more

While the staff was nice enough, the doctors lied to me every time I talked with them. They would tell me I was leaving and then turn around say I wasn't. Rather than listening to what I had to say, they believed the cops report. All they had to do was ask questions. They did not ask. They just went off the report, which was not accurate. Even the RN's knew I didn't belong there and couldn't figure out why I was there. People don't trust doctors or the cops of Georgetown. I said two words. I'm done. I ended up in a mental hospital for six days. Watch what you say. read more

IT WOULD BE BETTER TO STAY OUT ON THE STREETS OF AUSTIN THEN GO TO THIS PLACE! They need to change to the name to Georgetown Behavioral Institution NOT Institute. This place is a mental institution. We brought an adult family here with some anxiety and depression from alcohol dependency problems thinking they would truly help him. He admitted himself voluntarily thinking he could leave voluntarily. WRONG! This place is essentially a prison. He checked in on 12/26/2022 and they did not release him until 1/2/2023. Let me start from the beginning. ADMISSIONS: They intentionally mislead you by lying in the intake room saying the stay is 3-5 days. Then they changed it from 5-7 days to 7-10 days. Then they changed it again to a "tentative date from doctor". He became so anxious and paranoid he took 10 steps backwards. DOCTOR: Dr. Ike should be fired. He spent 2-3 minutes with our family member each day, once in the morning, and yet he was responsible for his release and medication. How can you possibly know the well-being of a patient with only 2-3 minutes a day? Our loved one is trying to get off dependency on pills and Dr. Ike's solution to everything is a drug. He kept telling him day after day he did not want to take anything and he did not listen and kept pushing pills on him. He kept refusing the recommended drugs, yet Dr. Ike continued to pressure him to take it. He gives every patient the same two pills [Gabapentin & Propopanial]. The care is not catered to each patient, as they claim. Dr. Ike prescribed Gabapentin to him and said he was doing it to "prevent seizures" which he has NEVER had. From day 1, we asked every day to speak with the doctor and was denied the opportunity until DAY 5 of him being in the facility. We asked him why he is keeping him he responded, "Good question", and never answered. We asked him 4 more questions and he never answered ONE single question. We asked him to please stop prescribing medications and explained that we had an outpatient plan to follow with doctors we know and can have better communication with. He became infuriated with us and said, "This is my job to prescribe medicine" and followed with "We are done!!" Then preceded to hang up on us. So apparently this is a "Psychiatrist" who cannot even handle his own anger. Unprofessional, uncaring, and cold...that is our description of this doctor who should NOT be practicing medicine. PATIENT ADVOCATE: Noel Mooney should change her title to patient adversary. She does absolutely NOTHING to advocate for the patient. We called to speak to her and from the one conversation we were able to have with her, it's apparent she is well trained in telling people what they want to hear, but that's it. Our family member signed the AMA (Against Medical Advice) to leave the facility. Upon learning this, she went to him and coerced him into signing a retraction statement. She used threats and scare tactics, telling him that if he didn't sign the retraction, the doctor would request a court order of protective custody for involuntary treatment. He asked if he could call us first for advice and she ridiculed him saying, "Aren't you an adult?" We left SEVEN messages with her to return our call and we never heard from her again. Our family member said most patients don't even know her or have any interaction with her never UNLESS they sign the AMA. PATIENT'S RIGHTS: The first violation of the patient's rights was the coercion of him to sign the AMA retraction. And that's exactly what it was - coercion, which is an explicit violation of the Texas Administrative Code, Title 25 Rule 404.157 Section (e): "Each of these persons has the right to be free from threatening or coercive representations of actions that will result if the individual requests to leave a department facility, community center, or psychiatric hospital against medical advice, including representations that: (1) the individual will be subject to an involuntary commitment proceeding or subsequent emergency detention..." The second violation of his rights is that he signed a release of information request for his medical treatment so that we had authorization to be included in the daily doctor meetings, or at a minimum, have the doctor call us with updates. We were afforded one phone conference with Dr. Ike. Other than that, every other request was denied. We will be seeking legal action against this facility regarding these clear violations and absolutely contesting any insurance payments. We are also opening a case with our insurance for investigation. CONCLUSION: Our loved one would like to commend Counselors: Felix R. & Rebecca. Nurse Tech: Yvonne, Juan. He left worse off than when he went in. It gives me nightmares to think of what must go on with the children in these facilities. read more

My experience wasn't as bad as the other places I've been to (been to 6 hospitals) but still wasn't the best. I went in 2021 My rating is a 2/5 because: 1. I was hospitalized 4 times before this one so I was told by many patients I met before that this place is horrible 2. They didn't think I actually had any psychiatric disorders. They told my mom (I was 15 when I went) that I was completely fine and just needed sunlight... This is probably because the psychologist spends very little time interacting with patients and I'm also a very quiet and subtle person. 99% of my suffering is internalized. You don't really notice anything wrong with me till you actually talk to me. The truth of my condition is the extreme opposite of what the psychologist said. I have DID, (C)PTSD, Severe MDD, Severe GAD, and Agoraphobia. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Took a friend to be admitted for his mental illness. So far, he has said things have been positive. He said they have a daily schedule. He enjoys playing basketball and has said nurses so far have been nice. No one has been mean. Food has been ok. He's met with social workers, counselor, and doctor. They've started a plan and just giving medicine time to take effect. I can't vouch for medical care. He's called a few times a day. When I called to check on him the day after we dropped off - the staff was pleasant and explained needing a caller code from the patient. This has been a more positive experience compared to the facility in Denton. read more

The Care was horrible, I went in walking left paralyzed from the waist down from having over 100 epileptic seizures every hour from them taking my seizure medication and saying I was faking my seizures they even refused to give me a wheelchair I had to drag myself around on the floor I went a week without bathing and another patient had a seizure and hit his head the staff said he purposely stood in spot until he passed out which wasn't true, the staff were rude and mean to every patient read more

I came for the over there for bad anxiety, and for suicide ideations, and I've never experienced any issues with them, but I don't know what y'all are talking about. I've only experienced some issues with George, gonna be able held in the past where a girl started accusing me of something that was not supposed to be doing and I was only doing something right and I was trying to treatment ready and then that's when she got in front of that she got moved to the move to the adolescent unit and then I mentioned this girl is a patient and they took care of her and that's the only issue I have a Georgetown behavior. Health experience has been really great here the food is great. The treatment is great and everything is good. It is a safe environment, is one of the most safest ones in the state of Texas. you know when she's not even supposed to be on an adult unit read more

3 days to review my Dementia mothers, with a report of something we knew of already. While releasing her to my father whom had passed away 3 years ago, leaving her in the lobby for the arranged time I told them I would be there. Also would like to note, a staff member talking to the front desk employee was very rude to them, condescending and unprofessional, so you would wonder how they would take care of their patients. My husband is currently in this institution and he may actually be a little worse because of how unorganized this place is. There are people who shouldn't be in his unit such as screaming and violent patients. When I call to make a phone call to him or ask questions, I have to call multiple times and almost every time I get nothing on the other end. He's said there is little to no intervention when other patients get too loud, misbehave or make the other patients uncomfortable. The type of care is poor and lacking professionalism and a consistent order of things. There is zero therapy provided. Other than than one or two part time staff members, all are ill-behaved orderlies at best. Quotes from staff, "We don't do anything on the weekends", "I f-ing hate kids", and the most disgusting, "They need to learn". This last quote was a direct response to us (parents) as to why she (nurse) forcibly injected our daughter with a high dose sedative "emergently" in her butt. As a parent with a child in this facility, I cannot tell you how disgusted I am with how this place operates. Zero communication from the staff. Zero. Miscommunication abounds at this facility. We had to find out information about our child from our INSURANCE case manager because the facility didn't bother to update us. Our child was in this facility for close to 120 hours without a call back from the doctor overseeing our child's care to update us. The only reason why we received a call back from the doctor is because we had to escalate complaints up the ladder to get a call back. Some staff here are good people, however there are nurses who don't care and were rude to us. The staff appears to be poorly trained to respond to common questions a parent would have about their child. In my opinion, I would never trust this facility with my child ever again due to the fact that the doctor refuses to update parents until the 5th day (after being forced to call us). Even our insurance company said the lack of an update from the doctor to the parents was "concerning" to them. They deserve 0 stars. read more

They can put your child in whatever unit they deem necessary and your child will be exposed to other patients that are inappropriate for your child to be around. You won't get the call from the case manager. Don't hold your breath. They don't call you. Even if the stress of this facility is actually hurting your child, you will not be able to take them home. If you want to take your child home, they can put a 24 hour hold on your child, and they did, and you cannot take them home to a safe place. If you go to an ER because a teacher or doctor tells you that you have to because you child had suicidal ideation be sure that you think long and hard before you do it. READ THE REVIEWS OF THE FACILITY!!! PLEASE! There is no communication with the powers that be once you relinquish your rights. You could be doing more harm than good. You want to protect your child, but not here. That was our experience. And the doctor that wrote the orders to place a 24 hour hold on our grandchild said he wanted another interview with her the next day so he held her. Do you know what that consisted of? He called her into the hallway (HIPPA VIOLATION) and said, "Are you anxious? Do you want to kill yourself?" She said no and that was the end of his "examination ". He refused to release her. She was removed by AMA to her frightened parents. She's 12 years old. He showed no compassion, respect or dignity towards this frightened child. Shame on this useless institution. What a terrifying and immoral medical facility. They are understaffed with low-quality health professionals including the patient advocate, therapists, nurses, psychiatrists, medical doctors and front desk staff. We were completely misled in terms of what to expect- told at the outset we would get information on our family member's care, they would review her medical and psychiatric history and eventually collaborate with family on a plan to take her home. We got 0 phone calls from the facility despite being told daily someone would call us back ("in an hour, at 4pm, first thing in the morning"). At different times, we heard extremely unsettling shouting, sexual advances and threats made to our family member with no staff member working to intervene. I can appreciate staff at a mental health facility has many complex priorities, cases and family members working with very sensitive and stressful situations. However, if basic ethical and moral care cannot be provided to patients, the institution should not be allowed to operate. I would expect staff at a minimum to be honest, provide a few medical and psychiatric updates over 12 days for those on patient's medical release. The only call I received was when she was being discharged. I was told we had an hour to come get her or she would be given a bus ticket. I cannot sufficiently express my disappointment with this establishment. read more

Usually I am not one to post a review on negative terms, but this place is a prison people are not joking. I hope to the grace of God I never have to go back here. People on the staff accused me of being a slut and whore when I literally did nothing. I see why this place got bad reviews now. This was my second time here for Schizoaffective disorder. Its a hard thing to manage and they got inside my head and made me worse after. Yes I take my meds everyday now. But the amount of PTSD this place gave me I am now scared of life. The nurses numbed me with drugs and when I went to a different doctor they were shocked on the amount of drugs they gave me. I now only take half of what I was taking while at Georgetown. I hope to never go back here again and I told the police to never let me go there again. They did not listen and took me here. I am very upset by everything I saw. It was unfair how not only I was treated but everyone was treated. Its mainly African American workers and I am white which I think is why I was treated so bad. Hope to never come back. This will be an unusual review since I will be making positive comments About Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute. (Henceforth GBHI) This is due to two reasons; First, the current reviews seem to be at least three to four years old. I'm sure that a lot of positive things have happened since then. Second, the reviews focuses on the inpatient program(s). My review and experience is based on GBHI's intensive outpatient program. I came to GBHI because I have severe anxiety. I have had at least two episodes of severe anxiety in the past not counting my current one. When I say "severe anxiety", I mean that I was experiencing symptoms that totally took over my body. I was not sleeping well. If I was lucky, I would sleep for two hours and it was a restless sleep in which I would wake up tired. In addition, I would dread going to sleep because I knew I would wake up with a tingling sensation all over my body. This sensation would stay with me most of the day. It was an exhausting experience that seem to have no end. In addition to the tingling sensation, my stomach felt like it was in a vice-grip. My chest felt tight and it seemed like all I could take were shallow breaths. Panic attacks were frequent and on going. These were triggered by the thought that I was going to die and even worse, never be able to climb out of the deep well that I felt I was in. (I even wrote a "good bye" letter to my wife.") In other words, my mind was going ever which way because I was catastrophizing every thought that came across my mind. Because I felt that I was dying, I must have seen at least five different doctors. I also changed my primary doctor at least three times. Each doctor prescribed different medications but none seemed to help. I somehow managed to "climb out of the deep well" but it took months. Little did I know that there was a key reason as to why the meds were not working and why seeing all the doctors also did not seem to help me. This is where GBHI came in. Had I known and taken advantage of their intensive outpatient service, I have no doubt that my past severe anxiety episodes would have been shortened quite a bit. In particular, the very effective group therapy coupled with close monitoring of my meds would have been priceless. I feel that can say this first hand because of my past episodes experiences (as noted above) and my current situation. I have been in GBHI intensive outpatient program (five days a week) for five weeks. I am attending, again, because of severe anxiety. I wasn't too sure about what I was going to be doing when attending group. It didn't take long to realize that this was what I needed. The group and especially the therapist, made me feel at ease almost immediately. I soon found out that there were others in the group with similar issues that they were dealing with. This made me realize that not only were there others with similar issues but that there were some who were struggling even more than I was. I was also surprised and glad to learn that there would be a psychiatrist monitoring my meds. He did this every week. In addition, a nurse was available all five days The bottom line was that within four weeks I was actually feeling better! I really couldn't believe this because in my past experiences with severe anxiety, it had taken months to recover. Since I am doing better, I will be attending group therapy three days a week instead of five. My final comment is not a thought but rather a plea. If you are currently having an episode of anxiety or any other mental issue, and are experiencing similar symptoms as described above, give GBHI a call. At best, you might qualify to get the help you need and at worst, the information you receive might give you a clue as to what should be your next step in your road to recovery. read more

They do not have a good rehab program for people that are suffering addiction. They don't have groups that meet like AA or Smart recovery. They don't have any outside volunteers come in to share their recovery stories. They have bad nurse techs here that have even been harmful to the patients in my opinion. I've been here a few times and have suffered immensely from my bipolar disorder. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of options in the area. But I would avoid this place. I had the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. I am 51 years old and was treated like I was a dog. The mental health tech do nothing but yell at the clients or patients and they get away with it. I even went through a HIPAA violation, where one of the text told the entire unit information about me without my permission. I was yelled and screamed at from the dining room all the way to the outside patio, which is about a block and a half and radius of walking from a tech by the name of Wondra I was cussed out by a tech by the name of Debbie , may I say at 51 years old this was the most horrific and horrible hospital stay I have ever had I am even leaving some of the worst parts out to eliminate the reader from reading too much but beware should you send your loved one or you go to this hospital read more

Do not let your loved ones stay here. My sister, who I am legal guardian of, stayed here for six weeks and I never was able to speak with her doctor even though I asked frequently. Then they discharged her without letting me know. She had no money, no phone, no ID, nothing but the clothes she had on and no place to go. They also released without medication. She is mentally ill. This six week stay was useless. read more

Absolutely no support for working staff which in turn hampers care of patients. Management could do so much better at supporting staff. Wouldn't take much effort on their part, however, they simply go with whomever is more social and likes to make crap up about co-workers instead of focusing on patient care. Despues de sacar a mi hija de ese lugar donde estuvo por unos dias y conocer de primera mano los detalles que me ha contado mi hija sobre el mal trato y falta de profesionalismo con el que tratan a los pacientes, sabiendo que la mayoria son niños que necesitan comprension y cariño solo puedo concluir que el personal de este hospital deberia ser despedido y contratar gente que realmente este comprometida y tenga deseos de ayudar a los pacientes del hospital. Creo que en los refugios de animales tratan mejor que ahi, no existe nadie con empatia que pueda siquiera tomar un tiempo para hablar con los pacientes, las evaluaciones de los medicos a los pacientes son por zoom estando en el mismo lugar, la terapia de grupo solo es unir en un solo salon a los niños sin actividades que ayuden a que superen su estado de ansiedad y otros sintomas de las enfermedades mentales. En lugar de hablar y calmar a los niños, les exijen que se mantengan callados y como no hay control de nada, los niños mas afectados por su enfermedad terminan peleando y el personal solo reporta que son malos pacientes con agresividad. POR FAVOR, NO LLEVEN A SUS HIJOS A ESE LUGAR, busquen otra opcion porque en lugar de ayudar, el personal de ese hospital termina aumentando el problema mental de los niños. Quisiera que este mensaje fuera un S.O.S para que las personas o la Institucion responsable de supervisar este hospital, hagan una reingenieria. Gritar a un paciente y humillarlo, nunca va a lograr que cambie su comportamiento y menos sabiendo que es una conducta que es producto de su enfermedad. TW: It has taken me over a year to write an honest review. I wasn't sure if it was just me or if it was the un-professionalism environment that I was thrown into. Admitted into the unit I was suicidal, self-harming, hullacinations, eating disorder, severe depression, severe anxiety, and horrible ptsd. My first encounter with the doctor was absolutely horrendous. I opened up to him about my eating disorder and how it was really hard for me. He looked at me up and down and then I quote, said "Well you are obviously failing at it." He then proceeded to give me "advice" on how to successfully lose weight. He said "Don't drink anything two hours before eating while eating and two hours after eating." First of all....WHAT IN THE WORLD! It makes me nauseous even reliving that moment. Every female patient was so uncomfortable with him that they refused to go in to see him without a female nurse. Later on he pretended nothing had happened and continued to give me "advice". Now for the staff. There are maybe a handful of people who actually cared about you. Most of the Techs would just ignore you. Two of the nurses were caring and kind. During my stay there I was called a schizophrenic, bipolar, waste of air and someone who would amount to nothing. Instead of being there for their patients they were there for their measly paycheck. I do not care if the staff thinks that just because we are a danger to ourselves means that we can be treated like dirt. We are people who are struggling who need a helping hand not words of death and actions of pain. Instead of leaving "safer", "happier", "hopeful", or "encouraged" i left even more suicidal upped my self-harm, eating disorder worsened, and many more things that are just painful to think about. I did attend their php and iop programs. I will be honest and say that the programs were wayyyyy better to the hospital experience. Most of the staff were understanding and were willing to sit and talk with you for however long you needed. I'm not saying that it was perfect, but each place has its flaws. What I'm trying to say is that in the program's case the good outweighs the bad. When I left there I had so many coping skills under my belt and resources in case I needed anything. Even though the program was alright I most definitely will not be recommending it nor the mental faculty to any of my friends nor loved ones. If you want your loved ones to feel like you don't care about them or love them or worthless or come out worse, and have emotional damage from the experience then this place is perfect for either yourself or them. My sister was admitted a few days ago, and from what I've heard, the staff won't answer the phones when you call to speak to a doctor or nurse. This place is terrible. We left without any paperwork or contact information for doctors visits. the staff was rude and the place is terribly understaffed. By any means DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE. read more

Where do I start.... first off let me say this is the worst hospital EVER! My child was hospitalized for 15 days here and Joesph Ike the psychiatrist NEVER called me not ONE time, after requesting him to call me to multiple staff, madison the discharge planner and also star the Therapist and a few nurses. All of these people seem UNDERQUALIFIED for their positions. It was told to me that they have a male Psychiatrist there that works on the weekends asking teen girls to show him their boobs. It's SICKEN. My child reported this to one of the other psychiatrists, hopefully he did his due diligence with reporting him further since these people NEVER answer the phones when I called administration. This hospital doesn't care about their patients at all. They NEVER answer your phone calls or call you concerning your child. How can you put a child on medication without my consent to raise or lower dosages. Also my child said, they called CPS twice! It's sad to call CPS wasting their time when it's people who really need CPS help. CPS needs to be called on them for allowing sick things to happen in this facility. These people again are sick and not qualified for their positions they seem to all be overwhelmed and can't handle their work loads. I had to come get my child from this hospital they weren't doing a thing to help her. I have no more energy for these people otherwise I could say a lot more. I have nothing left to say but KARMA when it's one of them in this situation one day. read more

I was denied access to a psychiatrist for 17 hoit's. Lied to repeatedly by uncaring disrespectful and incompetent staff. Denied respect, medication and eventually saw an ANP that was completely incompetent. I saw at least 4 other patients abused and neglected. I work in mental health and I was appalled at the treatment of patients. I reported them for multiple violations. If you care about the treatment you or a loved one DO NOT GO THERE!!!!! read more

I work as an RN taking care of disabilities in the community. One of our clients was a recent patient at GBH. The clients regular psychiatrist was taking the client off of Seroquel, due to adverse effects. But, GBH put this client on 200 mg of Seroquel every night. The client had entered GBH fully ambulatory. When picked up at discharge, this client was in a wheelchair, unable to balance herself to walk. Not only did they give her the 200 mg of Seroquel there, they ordered it to be given every night as discharge orders. The client had blood on her clothes, and had no idea how it got there. There is no co-ordination of care. They never consult with the regular psychiatrist. They had over-medicated this client to the point that she could not walk unassisted until a full day after her discharge. A different client was discharged with orders for a monthly injection listed as daily prn (as needed). I was told that the injection was given to the client in her arm. However, the instructions for that injection clearly state that it must be given in the buttocks. I asked for a copy of the documentation that the injection was given at GBH. I never received it. If I could give them a negative review, I would do so. read more

I would not recommend this facility to ANYONE!!! First off, the intake process takes way too long and the first people you meet with are not the friendliest! Then, they give you a packet of information, including expectations, which OBVIOUSLY mean NOTHING! They DO NOT follow through with anything that they tell you. We had very little communication from the facility pertaining to our child and after the first 72 hours was up we decided to discharge our child due to a lack of follow up and follow through by the facility. We were promised phone calls that evening by the therapist and the dr treating our child, however that didnt happen. We also asked to talk to a supervisor, which also never happened. Oh and the patient's advocate?! Never got a call back from her! What a joke! To top it off our 16 yr old daughter told us that they had their "privilege" of having crayons and even going outside was taken away. You read that right, our daughter didnt go outside for her entire stay and didnt have any way to draw, write, color, or anything. All she did was watched TV! Apparently the patients have to ask for a one on one session with the therapist, otherwise it's all group activities. Mind you, this was NEVER mentioned during intake. They constantly yell a the kids and talk to them like they are 5, even though they were ages 13-17! And despite us giving the facility a heads up of our discharging our child, it still took them well over 30 minutes to even acknowledge us being at their facility! This place has a lot of work to do and my heart literally broke for every child that I saw walk through the hallways of the facility and wait to be admitted. I highly recommend checking with your child's school to see if they have a licensed therapist to work with your child, or go elsewhere! This facility was counter productive to our child's needs! They really don't deserve a single star!!!! They should have their "star privilege" taken away! read more

After two stays of at least a week my view is do not send your child there. The contact staff seem OK but the case managers and administrators are really bad. Case manager never returned calls. Totally incompetent as regards arranging after hospital care to an RTC. Intake staff is overloaded and left us in a locked room for 2 hours with NO contact. I drove over 2 hours because I was told this was the best place I could be. The front desk lady's attitude was absolutely unacceptable to be working somewhere where people with mental health come for help. Makes you feel like you are stupid for trying. If the front desk lady is so rude how do you think the rest of the staff would act? Also if you're considering checking yourself in. Check out their lawsuits and violations. Our Son has been in this facility four time-it is only because Rock Springs is always full when we need him stabilized. The Attending Doctor does not pay attention to patients charts. First time our Son went, he just started lithium by his Doctor. His Doctor put him on a low dose to see if his body could tolerated it, and said he will increase it after a blood test- after seven days of taking it. We told the staff that. They did not give him any of his meds for two days, when they did, they DOUBLED his dose of lithium, and took a blood test three days after taking it-instead of seven. They did not tell us they changed the dose. When our kid came home he was having uncontrollable bowel movements, and had to be placed on adult diapers. When we took him to his regular Psychiatrist, he took him off the med completely, because he had too much in his system at once. The second time they put someone with sexual issues with my son, and when he woke up, my som claims the the guy molesting him-they denied the whole incident. We were going to press it further but our son said he just wanted to be over it because he was. We still reported it. Third time the doctor prescribed Lithium-even though it is now on his drug allergy list. Thankfully they had to call us to approve a new med. and we told the nurse it was on his allergy list and she said "oh yeah! It says it right here! We will let the doctor know and get back to you." No one did. They said he was not a danger to anyone- when he was released, and the very next day, there was a incident, he was not ready to be released. Then the Fourth time, they changed all if his diagnosis's, and doubled a medication. Our Son is having to wear Adult diapers again! Plus, he said he still is having impulsive thoughts. My son told the doctor he was not ready to leave, and they still discharged-even though our insurance, was ok with him staying a bit longer. Communication is terrible, I was told by staff turnover was high, when they never called us back for outpatient serviced after my son was released from a RTC. Next time we need services, we will be driving however long it takes, to find him a facility, that actually cares about their patients. Case Managers are a joke, receptionist is rude. If kids come there with no clothes(for emergency purposes) they make them wear paper cloths instead of scrubs. Bedside manner is awful, he said the doctor looked at him called him obese out if the blue, yet he gained 10 lbs while in there because that is all there is to do, eat, TV, eat. read more
