Chef Danyell worked with us at our price point and helped us come up with a menu that we were very excited about.

3.5 Nice, cute…read morespot--great for breakfast and selling a variety of items in addition to good food, such as sardines, gochujang mayo, and even staff-made ceramics. Food-wise, we got the Spicy Greens + Eggs and the Boo Boo Breakfast Biscuit. Sorry, I didn't take a photo of the Spicy Greens + Eggs and only remembered to snap a pic of the Boo Boo after I had already deconstructed it a bit. The food was good, but the biscuit stood out the most since it tasted fresh and homemade. Even though the place had a nice, chill vibe, I couldn't give it a higher rating because the service could've used some work. You walk up to the counter and see the menu written on the walls, but the breakfast items didn't have any descriptions. When we asked what was in one item, the worker looked at us and said everything was written in the handheld menu cards in front of us. So we picked up the menus--only to notice that nothing matched. When I asked about another item, he looked annoyed and said it should be written there. I pointed out that these looked like the lunch menu, and that's when his attitude changed. He wasn't necessarily rude, but he definitely wasn't as welcoming or hospitable as he could've been--especially at 8:30 in the morning.

The indoor space has a bar, a dance section, a billiard table (tho not official and a bit lower in height), room that you can serve food to guests, and hang out with friends. The outdoor space is large enough for host a ceremony, it has some tables and seats and tree with a swing. I'd say the view outdoors is pretty beautiful, specially at night. I think this can be a good venue to have celebs in. Definitely recommend it : )

Henrietta and…read moreMatt spared no effort to make us feel comfortable, relaxed and at home in their beautiful space. And yes, it is truly beautiful! It retains the charm of an older estate but with modern amenities. For example, during our wedding weekend, it was extremely hot outside, so we were somewhat limited in doing outdoor activities during the day. Regardless, we were able to enjoy ourselves inside, with the spacious rooms, ample seating and indoor activities, and music throughout the space. We also had a great time doing karaoke! We loved that guests who wanted to go to sleep early could. The upstairs rooms are private, quiet and well-air-conditioned. And we loved that they each had their own bathroom! We also appreciated Henrietta, Matt and their team's efforts to make sure the catered dinner was a success. The food was incredible. We loved having the option to pick from so many dishes, and all of them were fantastic. Having them handle everything allowed us to just focus on the wedding and enjoy spending time together. Maybe the thing we appreciated most of all was how quickly they dealt with any requests or (minor) issues that came up. They felt like our partners throughout the weekend, responding quickly to questions and never making us feel like we were burdening them. At the end of the weekend, a few attendees remarked that they were thinking about doing a future event at Vanderbilt, because they loved it so much. We recommend Vanderbilt Lakeside without reservation!

By some stroke of pure luck, we came across Marybeth (MB), who graciously agreed not to paint her venue in order to accommodate us. I'll say that at first, I was hesitant, and some of my initial reactions were on par with the more negative reviews below. However, after just having concluded my event, I can tell you that those reviews couldn't be farther from the truth. Yes, MB is a strong personality - but it's worth it. MB and her team put on a flawless, thoughtful and incredibly joyful 3 days for our guests, including an important client. She'll tell you repeated to just trust her and that she knows what she's doing. And you know what? SHE DOES! I wouldn't have had my event at any other venue with any other person running it. And will definitely be keeping MB and her space in mind for future opportunities. I can't stress enough how amazing our time was. Let her do her thing and you can sit back, relax and trust that you'll have an incredible event on your hands.

MB was able to make my day the most wonderful experience of my life. There was not a single problem (that I was ever made aware of). Everyone told us we had the best wedding they have ever been too! MB set us up with the vintage china, a hayride, had my father bring me to the aisle in a vintage truck. I have never heard so many "Wow! This is an awesome touch!" So many times. I come from a large family and everyone kept saying that this was the greatest wedding they have ever been too. MB and her staff were wonderful, the guy driving the hayride brought us close to the trees to pick some apples and through out the rest of the farm. When I came to MB with any concerns about anything she had it taken care of IMMEDIATELY! I wish I could get married again because she puts on an EPIC wedding. If you are looking for the most unique, incredible, stress free day of your life; Apple Barn Farm and MB will do that for you!!

They were hands down the most unprofessional event planning team I have ever experienced. All smiles and good wishes on the onset, but 'oh-so-busy-all-the-time' thereafter. Expect unreturned emails and phone calls, petty upsells, strategic disorganization, no vision, some rudeness and a lot of weird math. After about the umpteenth 'now what' it sadly felt like this small-minded, sidewinder approach was what they thought was smart business.

If you're like me and money is valuable to you, then please keep reading before you book. Here is a *short* list of all the ways Parker at Basilica scams you: -1) First contract included a caveat that IF basilica gets a liquor license within 6 months you must pay them and undisclosed amount for alcohol. Parker refused to give us an amount to budget for this secret clause. -2) Next issue was when Parker rented out the Friday of our wedding without telling us the amount we would receive back. She promised us we'd "split" the cost which would mean $6k, but in reality we only received $2k back, and the Friday bride still paid the full amount. When we said no, we were told it's too late to go back and she wouldn't even issue us a new contract detailing out the change because she didn't have time. At this point we knew our contract meant nothing. -3) Third issue was when we wanted to bring in all our own rentals, including lights, since of course the lights are extra. Parker told us it would cost us a fee to remove the lights, and that we had to pay to rent the lights from her. -4) Fourth issue was after we just gave in to paying for lights that we couldn't take down, we decided to add on tables. We originally ordered 20 to be safe but we got our final count and only needed 15. Parker told us we couldn't change the tables because the Friday bride needed more. -5) One week before our wedding, we were then told we owed tax on the rentals for the lights and table rentals, even after we had her confirm there were no more incremental hidden fees. -6) Lastly our "refundable" security deposit apparently contains a $400 non-refundable cleaning fee which we also found out days before the wedding. I pray that the Basilica hires a new, professional coordinator so no other couple has to go what we went through. Good luck!!

The place doesn't look like much from the outside. At first, there appears to be only a small parking lot in front. However, there's a large larger parking lot in the back. The entire staff warmly greets you upon check-in. I asked how the name The Wick came about. We were informed that this facility had been an old candle factory. Throughout the hotel, there's silver plated plaques on the candle making machines. Our room was nice and clean. More than enough towels for a one night stay. A sweet welcoming note was left on the dresser along with a mini bag of Tate's chocolate chip cookies. The beds were clean and comfortable. The hotel does have a small bar and dining room for breakfast lunch and dinner. Nothing fancy. We did have a lite dinner the first evening we arrived. The food was pretty good. The vegetable egg rolls were really tasty. The Caesar salad could've done without the anchovies. The anchovy taste lingered too long. I had a side grilled chicken with the salad. All the employees make you feel welcome and are very helpful. The hotel is within, walking distance of the local train and eateries. As we checked out, Abby was a big help filling the plastic container with their Wick logo with lemon water and ice. Definitely would return.
