We went to Good Night for dinner on a Tuesday recently and it was a great experience. The vibe of this place is great. It really felt like a cool, upscale dining. We were pleasantly surprised to see how many people were there that night, which helped contribute to the atmosphere. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive. We started with the Tteok Bokki and Crispy Wild Shrimp with Shishito peppers. We also got the Bibimbap and the Vietnamese steak frites. The flavors throughout this meal were well developed and delicious. The Tteok Bokki was so special and cheesy and delicious. Almost like a chewy rice noodle Asian Mac and cheese vibe. The wild shrimp dish was great. The components were all great, what was super surprising was how amazing the shishito peppers were. It was the best bite of that dish, which is saying a lot. The mains were equally as good. The flavors were all there. The steak was tender and delicious. The bibimbap was so good. We happily took home our leftovers. Overall, it was a great experience. This place is not kid friendly at all! The assistant manager was possibly racist, rude, and passive aggressive. We were told to turn down the babies iPad in that loud but empty place! We decided on Good Night because of the diverse menu, atmosphere, and we had eaten there while in town last year. We made reservations for the eight of us consisting of six adults and two children (both kids were my two year old grand babies). Upon arrival there were approximately four other tables eating there. Music played loudly in the background and people talked and laughed equally as loud. Our server came out and took our drink order. We had the babies seated in the center of the table next to each other with their parents on each side and grandparents across from them. They were extremely well behaved and quiet. We gave them each a book. Then, we put an iPad between them while playing a movie. Soon after, the assistant manager came over to our table and told my daughter "I'm going to need you to turn that down. Thank you"', and walked away. This was a kids iPad that even at max volume is not that loud. The sound of the iPad was in no way louder than noise level of the restaurant. The iPad was actually much lower than the voices at our own table. The babies were actually leaning in to hear. At that point I knew we weren't wanted as we were a family of minorities. We were the only table of black and brown people there. We shouldn't have to say that our table consisted of an anesthesiologist, a chemist, an engineer, executives, two babies, and a teacher. We shouldn't have to say that we are a very middle class family who dine in restaurants of similar caliber (often with the babies) probably weekly; yet, have never ever been asked such a thing. My wife and I will leave Brooklyn behind for the quiet of Woodstock that's a treat in itself but good night is an extra treat. While visiting friends we decided to stop in here for a anniversary dinner. The food was great and the bartender service was very good and the trendy style of the restaurant puts you at ease .but what surprised us most is the couple sitting next to us at the bar unbeknownst to us the husband was making rings out of dollar bills. From the outside, you'd never guess what a gem this place is--just another ordinary Woodstock building. The service was fantastic from start to finish. We had a reservation and were seated in less than five minutes. Our waitress was so sweet, attentive, and full of great recommendations. We ended up sharing everything family-style and I'm so glad we did. For starters, we tried three appetizers--crispy tofu, shrimp, and the corn fritters. All were amazing, but the corn fritters were the star of the show and had everyone at the table raving. For mains, we split the noodles, lemongrass chicken, and a Korean beef dish with lettuce wraps. Superior service! All the staff are great. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu (we're vegan) and genuinely relished the chance to talk about the ingredients and flavors/layers in the dishes. It's really nice to see that. Order the Thai Coconut soup, Shan Tofu, Local Mushroom and Jasmine rice, Tamarind Margarita, and a Manhattan cocktail. The cocktails were awesome. The standout was definitely the whole fish which was seasoned with Szechuan chili oil, but just the right amount and the fish was cooked perfectly. The caesar salad was also great. Good Night is a beautiful restaurant specializing in South Asian inspired dishes. Veggie options are limited, but enough for a meal. We went here during a recent trip to Woodstock and ordered: Thai Red Curry Corn Fritters - This was a cool fusion appetizer. A little sweet, but I would order again. Local Mushroom and Crispy Egg Noodle - I really like this, but it was a little difficult to eat because of the crispy egg noodles. You have to patiently let the noodles soak up the sauce to make them easier to eat (and tastier!). Grilled Shishito Pepper - Oddly, this was the worst dish. No hint of spice and something about the sauce just didn't work. Sadly, we ended up throwing most of them out.  Passion Fruit Makrut Lime Pie: SO good and really refreshing!! Also, it's dairy free, gluten free and vegan! I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars, but went with four because of the friendly service. I'm glad we tried it, but I probably won't go back. My husband isn't one to follow food trends or know the latest 'Hot & New Restaurants- unless he hears it at work. Hell, he doesn't have a Yelp account. But he did know about Good Night on Rock City Rd in Woodstock, NY and how they're one way or another, measuring up as a James Beard award semifinalist. The family who brought you Silvia not far off on Tinker St, renovated and reinvented this space. These folks are bringing their Korean background and nailing it with relaxed veg-forward (there are meat items available), Southeast Asian dishes. Good Night may be all black on the outside (Sylvia is too), but inside you'll find nothing but a nice welcome and a wonderful buzz- without it being too deafening. Due to its scope size and the menu variety, Good N. is rightfully regarded by many as the 'it' paradise. I mean, the place is popular and gets booked quick. The overall space- downstairs impressive and so is that event space upstairs you can book. Cocktails at the bar- while our table was getting tidied up, were a nice intro then began with Crispy Shrimp and 2 succulent oysters with Kimchi butter and other tidbits when we were seated. Both starters had wonderful presentation and the flavor combinations had us feening for more. Especially their crowd-pleasing, shrimp+shishito appetizer. More cocktails followed with potency. Our main plates were that much more interesting. My Black Cod à la Nage was exceptional. The fish was moist especially it being in that light ASF ginger-tamari broth- but I didn't expect so much of it. Hubs likes his pork chops a certain way- but he enjoyed these with Thai herbs and nuoc cham so much, I had to remind him to comport himself and not show his true colors sucking on the bone. Men. The '5 Spice' Almond Cake with a coconut ice cream scoop was the sweetest ending that Saturday night hubs and I came here. Music is bohemian-chic which blends right in with the mood. Very crowded even at 8:15pm. Noise level is quite high, you need to raise your voice to have a conversation. It's a trendy spot with an interesting menu, but not my cup of tea especially since the fusion aspect meant that everything is kind of similar to the flavors I'm used to but they're all changed so that the dish itself does not taste anything like the traditional dish. For example, I ordered five spice duck breast which was served with sauce and tortilla wrap: a riff off the traditional dish of Peking duck which is my favorite. The sauce was sweet, tortilla wraps were thick, and duck skin was not crispy or juicy. This made my first bite a confusion experience since it looked like the dish I was used to but tasted nothing like it. I want to do a special shout out to the microgreens that my plate came with: they packed a huge punch in flavor, surprisingly spicy! It was a Friday night and we weren't sure if we could get a reservation, so we went on the earlier side and sat the bar. The cocktails were insanely good -- I had the Goodnight Mary and loved it. Simply put, do not dine here! The food is mediocre at best, the service is awful, and the menu is very limited with no ability to make any accommodations. This was our second time visiting Good Night since there aren't many dinner options in Woodstock with a nice ambiance. During our first visit last year we had a decent experience but this most recent visit, the energy was completely off from the servers to the assistant manager who abruptly came over to our table telling us to turn down my 2 year olds (kids tablet) that doesn't even turn up that loud at all. I'm not sure what world the workers at this restaurant are living in but as someone who has dined at some of the best restaurants in New York City and Philadelphia this place doesn't compare at all and to offend your customers when you are MEDIOCRE is actually laughable. There were only 4 tables left in the restaurant and music playing throughout the place. The comment from the assistant manager felt racially charged and like she was triggered by kids being in the restaurant. We were a large party and had only placed our drink order at this time. The comment from the assistant manager made us we feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. We decided to leave and spend our $700+ at a more welcoming environment that actually wants to serve their customers not OFFEND them. We will NOT be back. read more

I read some reviews complaining about the noise level which absolutely was not an issue when my husband and I were there on a busy Saturday night. I am quite sensitive to excessive noise and hate when I have to shout through a meal. This is not the case at Good Night. Service was excellent; everything was timed perfectly. Service was attentive, professional and genuine. And the food!!! Oh my goodness. Our party had the crispy shrimp, Caesar salad, red curry soup, pork chop, bibimap and chicken dumpling soup. It was all fantastic. All the dishes were unique and flavors were well balanced. I read a few reviews that were negative and just can't fathom how anyone could have a bad experience here. One of our favorite places in Catskills. The food is tasty and fairly complex. Portions are not too large and not too small and service is always beyond exceptional. I will say that both times we were there there was one dish we didn't fully love (beef carpacio last time was very spicy and now black cod was a bit boring), but the food is great and so is the vibe and overall experience. I also find that it's still reasonably priced (not cheap but just not trying to be more expensive than NYC). We dined at Matilda in Woodstock the night before and found Good Night overall to be way nicer (not so much for food, but for service, vibe and value). read more

But did have a nice atmosphere and nice outdoor seating section as well little outside town which I liked. The pork bánh mì deconstructed was nice but not enough noodles should also offer rice at this price point. The monk fish nuggets was a little bit under flavored. And a little bit rubbery. The monk fish seem to be undercooked in the middle of these fried trinkets and underwhelmed by the side. as per the sea bass, it's better than expected but a nice sauce and like the bok choy but again the dishes should come with rice and more veggies especially which they charged for sides. read more

This place is a very ambitious take on asian fusion that doesn't work at all and it's bc of how much it misses with asian flavors. For the price, visually it's very bad imo. The garnish is a joke. Ridiculous amount of carrots that aren't even pickled. It looks sloppy. Nothing that came out at dinner was impressive or looked visually attractive. Felt like someone was playing for the first time. The viet pork chop dish genuinely upset me. It's insulting how bad it is. A deconstructed pork chop platter with sides of just raw vegetables. And when we ask does it come with rice they say "every dish is meant to be eaten the way it comes". Plus rice is extra charge. Why would I want a marinated pork chop with sides of raw vegetables with no type of seasoning, flavor. I've seen office picnics put in more effort. Such a lazy dish. For the price alone, I should be getting a plate that looks better than when I plate food at home. The plating is seriously amateurish and it feels like a really low standard. The carrots, if they were pickled, don't have a pickled taste or texture. They don't know how to make a sauce at all. Every single sauce we got was not good at all. And they give a lot of sauces. The pork chop itself was cooked fine but the dish is a disaster. Been to so many viet restaurants who serve amazing pork chop platters for a third of the price. The carpaccio is drowned in chili oil, and the chili oil itself is terrible. None of the sauces are Asian, or Asian fusion, they're all just bad. Only thing I liked was the shishito peppers. Shrimps have terrible aftertaste bc of the flavors. This is an Asian fusion and fine dining disaster. read more

We ordered the banh mi pate, grilled oysters, grilled hamachi collar, black cod a la nage, and ube mochi donut dessert. Everything was so so good.
