    Such a gorgeous estate.

On the drive up from NYC to Saratoga Springs, I had the opportunity to cross off a major item on my bucket list and visit the German restaurant at the Bavarian Manor Country Inn. Why is this charming inn in upstate New York a bucket list item for me, you might ask? Well, for me the allure came not just from the German good (which has a gravitational pull all its own as far as I'm concerned), but because it is the place where my childhood hero, Madeline Kahn, got her start working as a singing waitress. If you go into the restroom area, there is a lovely tribute to Maddie hanging on the wall. But this review is about the food, so let's get down to it. As a German food fiend, there were several items on the menu that were tempting, but since we still had a long drive ahead, my travel companion and I were forced to limit ourselves. To start, we ordered the chicken liver mousse. Topped with a garnish of marinated sour cherries, and served with toasted baguette points, the mousse was smooth and subtle (the way I like my liver spreads) and the tartness and sweetness of the cherries offered the perfect counterbalance. What really took me by surprise though were those celery pickles! I am not much of a celery fan, but these were crisp, crunchy and the brine actually mellowed out that celery flavor that I can otherwise take or leave. For entrees, I went with the jaegerschitzel, as that is generally my go-to item with Bavarian fare. Schnitzel topped with a hearty mushroom cream gravy, served over spaetzle. Top-notch. My companion got the weisswurst platter. Both meat dishes were tender, succulent and the flavor was absolutely divine. All I can think about now is coming back, staying at the inn, and dining in the evening when the music starts!

Came here to escape the covid chaos of NYC with my bf for his birthday for a few days. The folks here much older than us, but the peace and quiet was all we really needed. Stan the boss man greeted us. He was really nice and hospitable, along with the rest of the staff. Our room was cozy and clean. Free wifi (slow-ish is there are a lot of people around). They had a good size fridge to fit our leftovers and drinks. The entire venue was really quaint and adorable. The food and beer at the restaurant were amazingggg. Make sure you make reservations for dinner! My favorite dessert was the rice pudding. We also had a hot breakfast included with our reservation which was really nice to wake up to everyday. During our trip we went hiking, kayaking, and checked out some breweries and wineries. All were less than half an hour away. We will definitely come back!

Just had one of the best meals we have eaten out at a restaurant in years. We ordered potato pancakes of course which were great. I ordered the roasted herb crusted pork loin with brown gravy and homemade mashed potatoes possibly the best mashed potatoes i have eaten in a restaurant. My wife ordered the rouladen that came with spaetzle And red cabbage I think mine came with the saurkraut . For dessert I had the chocolate decadence flourless cake that was like a big awesome truffle. And my wife had the black forest cake which was pretty much incredible. If you are looking for authentic German food this is the place.

Everyone is shocked when I tell them that we stayed inside what was the giraffe house. The rooms are well-appointed, and the communal are spacious. There's a full kitchen for you to use, couches, tables, a coffee bar. But for the people who are here to explore the modern ruins, the real appeal is outside the inn. We probably spent 5 hours exploring all over the abandoned zoo, and I'm not sure we covered everything. Almost everything is open, so you can go into the buildings, inside the fences, even inside the cages. It's spooky, but so cool. And since the inn has only five rooms, we hardly saw anyone while we were out there, since you can only explore the property if you're staying there. It's only about 20 minutes to downtown Catskill, where we went to eat both nights, but while you're on the property, it's completely quiet, except for the creepily atmospheric sounds of the gun range down the road.

The cabin we selected included a queen bed, a table for two, a small kitchenette, bathroom, and AC. Check-in was done virtually, with a code texted to your phone. When we entered the cabin, we were greeted with a personal note, a box to store away phones, and a snack package that included a s'mores kit. The cabin itself was small but had all the essentials. They really encourage disconnecting from technology. There's no TV, and they provide a designated box to put your phones away so you can be more present in nature. That said, I was happy to see there is Wi-Fi available if you need it. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the firepit and relaxing in the hammock. I don't quite know how to describe our getaway to Winter Clove Inn this December. My overall sense…read moreis that many guests are returning families, for whom Winter Clove Inn holds special nostalgic memories, and they love it here. However, new guests that are expecting a 5-star resort based on Google classification will likely be pretty disappointed. The main Inn is old and charming, but it and the adjacent property buildings are showing their age in a not-so-charming way. For example, two of our five guest rooms in Oak Lodge had broken heat, which the property was certainly aware of as they had placed space heaters in the rooms before our arrival. During our last day, there was no water at all in the Carriage House, so guests could not flush toilets or wash hands, even after bowling! Really basic features you would expect in even a roadside motel, such as tissues in guest rooms, were not provided. Toilet seats that needed replacing are mismatched, with oval seats on square front toilets, and the toilet cover in the main lodge was broken and not repaired during our stay. Despite being "pet-free," blankets smelled like dog. Despite the rustic accommodations, our family created our own fun together. Our reserved table in the dining room was uncomfortably tight for 13 guests, which was continually apparent during the slow food service. The amount of food at each meal was plentiful, but servers were poorly trained as they repeatedly failed to clear place settings from one course before bringing another course, and repeatedly miscounted orders bringing the incorrect number of soups, desserts, etc. Aside from some disappointing low points, such as the embarrassing frozen mixed vegetables being served as the "vegetable of the day," or uncut unripe honeydew wedges served as the fruit option, the meals were basic but acceptable fare.

I enjoyed seeing my extended family but it was not a pleasant hotel experience unfortunately. The waitstaff in the dining room were very upset when we joined a different table after we had ordered during a dinner service, although we were all a part of the same extended family group at the other table. The one waitress made a point of telling me that what I did was not acceptable and it was stressing the other waitress out so much that she put place cards in front of my daughter and husband and I with the name of the other waitress for the entirety of our meal. Even after that occurred she made it a point to remind me that what had happened was not good and we shouldn't have done it. It cost us our salad entree. But we didn't miss much. It was an unfortunate experience, considering there were only three tables in the dining room with our family and two pre-fixed meals. Note: there were a couple of other tables but I would definitely say, the customer is always right was not the sentiment I got from that interaction. Beyond that, I had fun singing karaoke with my 7 year old and she enjoyed bowling and the bonfire was a nice touch.

The beautiful dark wood and crackling fireplace create a comfy and elegant ambiance that sets the tone for an unforgettable culinary experience. Our decision to come on a Saturday night was last minute, so the only way to get in was to arrive at 5 pm when they open and sit at the bar. Oh and what a treat and delight that proved to be!! Devon Whittaker, the mixologist, was about to begin a stint at Bard College on a Fulbright Scholarship to study some aspect of the neurosciences. Like Tom Cruise in the movie Cocktail, he dazzled us with his physical artistry and quenched our thirst for delicious drinks both with and without alcohol. It was a true "umbrella" drinker's (me) paradise. The food, exquisitely prepared by Chef Corwin Cave, was understatedly absolutely sublimely delicious. From the liver pate and house special lobster delight appetizer with oh so freshly baked bread, to the just perfectly prepared lamb shank as well as Wagyu beef and fish dish, our taste buds and nasal receptors were stimulated and satisfied to the max. Not to be left out was the wonderful assortment of deserts worth every calorie taken in. Our only regret was in leaving this culinary sanctuary which became tolerable knowing that the restaurant was only a reservation and two hour drive from NYC away...

We went to visit a few locations, and searched many more online for days on weeks. It was when we stumbled upon this venue that we knew our search was over. Owls Hoot Barn checked off every box we wanted in a wedding venue. There were even factors we had not necessarily considered in a venue that OHB was and to deliver without fail. The grounds of venue - gorgeous, the owner and her entire family/team - most amazing people you can find, decor and supplies - everything we wanted and needed, overall experience - exactly what you would expect when you think of a small piece of paradise/heaven! And this also includes the fact that our beloved pups were allowed to be on the grounds and partake in our special day! The owner of the venue, who was also our wedding coordinator, went above and beyond to help us arrange everything we needed to make it wedding perfect. Even going as far to come back on site for our rehearsal dinner during her own wedding anniversary! How many people would be willing to do that? Her passion for ensuring every couple out there sees their vision fulfilled is truly one that is undeniable and unique. We could not have pulled this off, let alone reduce our wedding planning stress significantly, without her help. My now wife, our current (and future pups) and myself now have found a place we don't just refer to as a hidden gem, but a small place we can call another home. For any future couples out there, whether you are considered local or coming from another state of the U.S. entirely, you will fall in love with OHB. My wife probably would think I shouldn't leave too long of a review as some people might think "that one is too long to read" but I can't help express how much we truly were blessed with this place...so much that even to this day we joke about doing it all over again just to relive our wedding weekend back in October 2025. For any current/future couples out there searching for a wedding venue in Hudson Valley, NY...this place should absolutely be #1 on your list!
