When, during your cross-country roadtrip in an '84 Vanagon Westphalia is interrupted, just like…read morethat-- it is always like this, with cars with people; we, ourselves, are probably too old, in our middle 60's, to have undertaken this trip at all, sans air-conditioning, with our sweet eight-year-old dog-- on Hwy 90 in Fingerlakes region of New York (so close to making it all the way across!), the sudden loss of power indicating something grave, you are thinking, like the main drive belt, & you pull over (plenty of room for a tow-truck, just in case), & toss out all the luggage in back because underneath it is the old engine & you have *two* spare drive belts & can do this repair yourself! Only you can see immediately that the belt is fine. You start the car again: no gears to shift into; we lost the clutch, you are thinking. Then the superb tow-truck driver at Farmington Towing (shout-out! sorry I forgot your name; see: "mid-60's), suggests I call CDI in Victor while he's up-loading the van & Mike, co-owner, answers the phone & says, "I don't even have anywhere to *put* your car & we're booking out three weeks from now & one of our mechanics is on vacation, but, sure, bring it by." Apologies for suspending the punchline for so long, but, after renting a car (shout out to the local Enterprise & Caleb) & thinking we'd be spending the next week exploring the Fingerlakes for the next week (we're fine with that: see "mid-60's), & spending the night in a sweet & vacant yurt (shout-out Plum Point Lodge), Mike at CDI has, overnight!, determined that the clutch cable & assembly are actually fine & that what need repairing are the CV joint & boot (so doable, especially when, as owner, you have a thing for old vw vans & have spare parts in abundance!). Mike has our van back on the road in 24 hours (backup on the lot be damned; he's committed to "getting us back on the road" to complete our cross-country road-trip)! Robert (shout-out: a mechanic who works with Mike) identifies an axel issue (that would have been big trouble further down the road) as well, so they fix that, too. All this to say that CDI Auto Repair in Victor, NY, is one of those magical, necessary stops along the road you didn't even know you needed to encounter. Now writing from Maine just a couple of days later: my grandfather was a great & honest auto mechanic; I know them when I happen upon them. (Shout-out also to Garrett at C & G Auto Repair in Hanksville, UT for his own skillful & timely work to keep us going). Yes, we highly recommend CDI-- among the best auto-repair experiences we've ever had. Skillful, humane, most excellent!

Monro looked at my vehicle and didn't find anything wrong with my brakes, just a tad bit of rust on my discs which is expected with the amount of snow and salt exposure we get here. I appreciate the honesty and just for that I will continue and would highly recommend this place to anyone that needs auto services done. Initially, I was highly impressed with the owner, Scott. He presented himself so professionally that I made the big mistake of trusting him completely and didn't even seek an additional quote. That is a mistake I deeply regret. Once the nearly $47,000 project began, Scott never came on-site even a single time to supervise the work, leading to a catastrophic breakdown in quality control and professional conduct. The masonry work performed at my property has since been assessed by multiple independent industry professionals who have verbally clarified that the project is a total loss requiring a full removal and redo. The specific, documented issues include: Structural Damage to My Home: The concrete was poured without proper expansion joints, causing extreme lateral pressure that has physically buckled and warped the structural frame of my Four Seasons room sliding glass doors and damaged my siding. Sub-base Failure & Cracking: Severe structural cracks emerged rapidly due to an improperly compacted foundation and the complete omission of internal structural reinforcements like rebar or wire mesh. Safety and Conduct Breaches: The project suffered from a severe lack of professionalism, including a highly concerning on-site incident where a crew leader arrived under the influence of alcohol--a safety violation witnessed by myself and neighbors. When these structural defects were brought to their attention, management's only solution was to offer a minor balance waiver and an impossible surface "patch" rather than addressing the structural integrity of my home. Because the cost to fix their negligence far exceeds what was paid, I am letting the public know the truth. I have exhaustive photographic evidence of the defects, copies of all correspondence, and firsthand accounts documenting every single claim made in this review. SL Custom Construction built a custom pool deck for our above ground pool that is amazing! The…read morequality of the construction and materials has become a beautiful asset to our yard and the value of our house. I worked construction and was a mechanical engineer, so I know how to properly build a deck and I am frankly very particular how contractors create a foundation and their fit and finish of the visible decking and stairs. SL Customer Construction did it all right and with constant care and communications with me to be sure that we would be happy with the end result, as we very much are. We were also very pleased about some of the upgraded finish recommendations that they offered to me that have added several wow factors to what could have looked like just a functional pool deck without them. For example, using two colors of decking, a light gray and a charcoal to make a "picture frame" around the main deck, landing and each step of the stairway. They also made a custom main gate that matched the black railings, rather than use an out of the box gate that would have looked more like a jail cell gate. They also recommended using the charcoal decking color for the skirting all around to contrast the light gray decking boards and again, it looks fantastic! As with any complex construction project, there were a few bumps in the road along the way that caused some delays, such as the wrong length spindles that needed to be reordered. But, the SL team was also making sure that everything was done right and to my satisfaction, while responding to any issues quickly and appropriately. As a marketing and branding executive and consultant in my later career, I know that no business is perfect all the time, but the thing that defines a great from a fair business is how they respond to problems and issues, to create a positive customer experience. I live in the town of Greece where their requirements for construction projects is unusually difficult as they have specs that no other town in the county demands. I have worked with the town permit desk directly and working with the town is a frustrating experience to comply with their sometimes unreasonable specs. SL worked directly with the town of Greece for the permit on our pool deck project and they passed the three required on-site inspections with flying colors. SL owner Scott suggested that they build the town required landing/platform a step lower that the main deck level so that they did not have to have the whole side of the railings a foot higher than the rest of the railings as the town demanded. By lowering the landing, he was able to get town approval with only the safety gate a bit taller than the rest of the railings that still meet the town spec at standard height. I definitely recommend SL Custom Construction for your next custom construction project and I have already discussed a couple future projects for our home with SL's owner Scott.
