Want to give a thank you to Howard Road Garage in Gates. They did a wonderful job of diagnosing my air conditioning issue and getting me up and running. It ended up being just an a/c relay, which basically cost $15. I paid mostly for the tests that assured me my air condition system was working properly and that my issue was an electrical malfunction. Before going to Howard Road Garage I went to one of the major complete auto care shops because my ac wasn't working. And they gave me a quote of 2500.00 saying that it was my compressor and the serpentine belt. I also was going to buy a set of tires with all of the additional bells and whistles for installation for the total work to come out to $ 4100. Good thing I didn't fall for the first Big Box company's suggesting and went for a second opinion. I paid approximately 10% of what the Big company tried to charge me for repair of my air conditioner. And now I can be cool in the summer again. Thanks Howard Road Garage. A family owned business. Nice people. good work. Very expensive. Understand they must markup parts, but to raise the price of the a/c compressor $292 ($550 charged, $258 on Rocauto) was a little much. Also every other item (including $15 to run dye through it) I felt nickeled and dimed. read more

Went there due to my car having issues idling, was told by them that my transmission was shot and it could not be driven granted I drove it to the shop just fine. When cashing out I asked for a diagnostic report to see the tests that they conducted, when asked they looked dumbfounded and said we don't do those. I asked to then speak to the mechanic who did the diagnostic work they said he was gone for the day and it was only noon. Not even 3 hours later I took it to Firestone to get a second opinion on it and they said it was a small vacuum leak. This was a complete money grab by Howard's garage didn't even take the time to see what the problem was just thought I would buy a new transmission. Avoid this shop at all cost lazy people, lazy work. read more

Can't be trusted...asked for my break light to be repaired came to get truck only for light to still not be working after they attempted to charge me $75 for cleaning it, after replacing harness like I suggested found that they broke the assembly so light was dangling. Of course they didn't do it!! DO NOT RECOMMEND read more

This shop is fantastic. From the ladies that work in the front to the mechanics, especially Ski (sorry if I Misspelled your name) Had never been here before. My car was having a/c problems and other issues related to it. I found this place on the internet. From the first call to the first visit to their call on what was going on with the car, to ordering the part and getting it there the next day, to getting me scheduled even as my schedule kept changing, I got my car back with a/c at a reasonable price plus a place i trust with my car. I had the most incredible experience here as a first-timer. I had called around to price out rear brake pads/rotors/calipers for my Jeep and Howard Road Garage was the fairest in price AND they got me in and out on the same day! The owner's wife really makes this place (in my very limited experience thus far). She was kind, patient, helpful, and most importantly - friendly! It's not often you find a mechanic that runs a good business with positive employees that value customer service. Meeting their shop pup Molson was another plus for me. I called the with a last minute vehicle repair before going out of town. they were very accommodating getting me in and getting me on the road. The part that I provided from NAPA proved to be defective and they went out of their way to resolve the issue with and made the repair with a new part. My 2004 Dodge Durango was making a really weird noise that I was unsure what it was. I stopped at this garage to see if they could diagnose the problem before I left town. Man that got this thing in right away. The staff was extremely polite and very informational. They told me the problem was my Idle pulley, within the next hour I had a new pulley installed and was on my way. The ladies up front where really nice, She was running out to grab herself lunch, and even asked me if I wanted anything, This caught me off guard but I tell you that's customer service at its finest. Great service great people. Took my 1978 Z28 there for an inspection and while I was waiting the ladies in the front were very nice and fun to talk to. Unfortunately the hours they are open are the same hours I work but with something like an inspection they got me right in when I needed it when everyone else was booking into the next week! As a customer over 10 years now we have had all positive interactions. Sharon and Ski are always very friendly and approachable. our latest contact was when suddenly our exhaust system fell apart. They had the fairest in price, they got me in and out on the same day and was flexible on payment as I am disabled and on a fixed income and the cost was major! It's not often you find a mechanic that runs a good business with positive employees that value customer service. They call before doing work, explain options and do not do anything before you say they can. If an issue arises they call you up and discuss it upfront and honest. Sharon and Ski have impeccable integrity and in a lot of ways Ski reminds me of my late father whom was also a mechanic, he has the values my father had.
