That's the best burger I've had in my life, and it was two half-pound patties stacked on top of each other. I ordered the Behemoth, and the name doesn't oversell it. The menu here runs deep on both burgers and beers, plenty of options if you want to build your own kind of monster, but I didn't need to look past that one. I stick to the patties and cheese myself, no bun, no fries, and even stripped down to just the meat, this burger was unbelievably flavorful and juicy. A full pound of beef done exactly right. The place has a casual sports-bar feel, easy to relax in, nothing fussy about it. Service was attentive and quick, no waiting around, no chasing anyone down for a refill. And for the size and quality of what showed up on the plate, the price felt like a genuine deal. I didn't walk away feeling like I overpaid for the portion. I didn't plan on writing a review when we sat down. That burger changed my mind. If I'm ever back through Barboursville, I'm going straight back to Oscar's, no hesitation. read more

The "good" is the food is cooked exactly right and delicious. Portions are generous. Restaurant is clean. The "bad" are the hostess and wait staff. Hostess was not friendly and/or welcoming at all. Talking to her was like talking to a brick wall! No emotion or smile! Just straight-faced! And the server assigned to my table never once addressed me directly. She spoke only to my daughter the entire time we were there! When taking my order, she was looking around and not paying attention to me at all. When I finished, I asked her to repeat my order and she looked at me with disgust then took a deep breath and sighed (very condescending) then read back what she had written down which was only about 1/2 of my order! Then in a patronizing manner, asked my daughter if that was correct! I had to raise my voice and tell her no, that wasn't correct in order to get her to even look at me! I went against my better judgement and stayed but what I should have done was LEAVE IMMEDIATELY! That was 1 year ago...I haven't been back. Just can't bring myself to pay hard-earned money to a business that doesn't seem to care about hospitality and customer care! The person(s) doing staff training needs GONE! read more

Visited this location last night for an impromptu date night with my wife. Despite the holiday weekend, the business was busy and we had about a fifteen minute wait to be seated (they have both inside and outside waiting seating), we chose a bench outside in the cool evening air. Once our table was ready, we were notified by the hostess and seated at a high top near the bar (bar seating it first come first serve at the bar). They also have low top tables for parties of 4 to 6. Despite being close to the bar, we were still able to talk easily and noise level was acceptable. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu and made some helpful suggestions that we used. We ordered a pickle fries appetizer with ranch dipping sauce with our drinks. These came out quickly and were still hot from the fryer but they were good and the homemade ranch was really good (our server advised they make all their sauces and dips in house). For our mains, we both ordered the original burger - a half pound burger on a bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles topped with ketchup, mustard and mayo. We also opted to pay an extra fifty cents to add cheese (American for me and provolone for her). We also opted to pay an extra fee to add sweet potato fries and onion rings to our meals as opposed to fresh cut chips. The burgers were a little slow getting out and drinks began to run dry. Once our burgers came out, they looked great but mine was a little salty and I could taste the salt over the other toppings in my first bite. After that the burger leveled out and we enjoyed our meal. My wife did not like the Maple Siracha dipping sauce that came with her sweet potato fries and after trying it, I was not impressed either. All in all, a good meal at a fair price. Good place for a casual date. read more

Oscar's is a good place...don't get me wrong. Food is good (fries are great!) but I hadn't been there in a while until this past month where I've eaten twice in a span of two weeks. Just noticed that the quality has waned a little in a couple years. Sweet tea watered down both times, burger coming out under-cooked, and a few other inconsistencies, nobody at the the reception desk (both times stood there for roughly 5 minutes waiting to even talk to someone). I feel like it's probably hard to hire employees, get employees to show up, etc. These are the times we live in I suppose but I'm just stating my observations here in the last month after probably a year of not stopping in. read more

We had a party of 9 on for a late lunch on Friday, 11/24/23. There wasn't too long of a wait! The service was great. Plenty of parking. Relaxed vibes inside, very orange and blue, in support of the Astros. Love the story behind the name--it's in memory of the owner's sweet pup. Here's what I tried: - Pickle Fries ($9): Good, but prefer the mushrooms. - Fried Portobello Mushrooms ($9): Super good!! - The Astro Burger ($11) with sweet potato fries: The burger was great! I also tried the regular fries, and I actually liked those better than the sweet potato fries. A few of the beers we ordered were out, but everyone ended up liking what they got. My second trip here. I was SO excited because last time it was SO good! Today? Not so much. Burger was way over cooked and not juicy.at.ALL. The bun was tough like it had been microwaved. Red Robin serves a better burger. They are busy but not slammed so... not sure why there is such a HUGE difference. Quality consistency is of the MOST importance if you want to stay open. For dessert, I tried the lava cake. NOT with the calories.. the cake is very floury-tasting and the ice cream taste fake. it's not creamy, and very thick.. like ice cream you got in a plastic as a kid at birthday parties. Bleh! Because the burger was so good the first time, I'll chalk this up as an "off night.". I'll be fair and try them again in a few months. read more

I work a few offices down from Oscar's so I order here multiple times a week. I just wanted to mention how wonderful the staff are! Wow I was in visiting family and I can tell you they were on point. Service, I have not had service like that in a long long time from anywhere. The food was out fast. First the sampler app as quick as it was out I was expecting something to be wrong no everything was fresh and hot. Hot enough I had to let it cool down. The perfect amount of time passes when our mains came out which it was quick as well but the right amount of time quick with just a little bit of the app was left and I had been moving the little bit left over to a small plate to get ready for our main. About that time one person came and got the big app plate out the way and right behind was our waitress with our mains. Which again hot and really good and was actually correct cause I made changes to how mine came. Now to our waitress she was great very personable and as well she was on point with a smile always. I could say a good bit more about it but I will leave it at that. I guess I will say this. I really needed that. Something to go so smoothly after the last few days I had. It was like a sign that everything was going to go smooth and stress free that day. That it was going to be a good day and I could relaxed lol. So thank you, I really needed that. For a Friday night we only had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. We ordered a pumpkin spice hard cider and a caramel apple cider which were both amazing! For an app we ordered the fries with dry rub chicken and pimento cheese and it was really tasty! My hubs ordered the Oscar burger and he said other than it being cooked well done instead of medium the flavor was there and a good burger. I ordered the turkey club and it was perfect! We both ordered side salads and those were good sizes for being a side salad. It is a noisy place but it was also on Friday night too. read more

From having to wait on silverware , I mean like food has been there wait , to food arriving lukewarm or really didn't need those few extra minutes beneath the heat lamp. Great place to eat and lots of good local craft beers to choose from. I really like the K2B Burger which is an excellent beef burger topped with sautéed mushrooms. I like mine rare, and they provided them perfectly cooked as ordered (A rarity in these days. Most often, if I get a choice at all, I get told medium well or well is all 'corporate' allows.) thoroughly enjoyed! Place itself offers a large patio that is (at least currently) enclosed with tent to ward off elements. Recommend! read more

I had a Blood Orange Blonde ale while Hubby had Blarney Fife based on the fact that it's a red ale. We tried each other's but liked our own the most. 30 beers on tap is awesome! I was in town for one night for work and found this restaurant on Yelp while scoping out the area a few days prior. I am so glad I found them! Unfortunately I didn't try any beer during the visit because I was on a no drinking roll since new year's but I did notice they had a very large selection. I had the wings as an appetizer and opted for the dry rub. It was delicious and a had a tiny bit of a kick to it. I would definitely order them again. My friend and I each got a different burger. They were both cooked perfectly and the topping were yummy. I got a side of the sweet potato fries which were sooo good. The sauce they pair with the sweet potato fries was unique and I could not stop dipping! The waitress was super friendly and welcoming! The breakfast menu looked amazing but unfortunately I wasn't in town for breakfast the following morning. If ever in the area I will definitely be back! read more
