What a great stop, we needed a quick break and found a little bit of NO in Huntington! The food had all the expected flavors of the Mardi Gras. The service was excellent and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambience of the seating area was perfectly suited to the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Got our order to go after an event in Huntington. I hadn't had the chance to eat here before so I got the Cajun food sampler. It features gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, and shrimp Étouffée ($15.99) everything was super delicious and flavorful. I'm not a huge shrimp fan, but they were well seasoned and a good texture. The grits were amazing. The gumbo was perfect on this rainy day. My husband got the Blackened Catfish and Andouille Smoked Sausage Étouffée over Cheesy Garlic Grits ($14.99) and he really liked it. The fish was large and flavorful, the sausage was tasty. And he also really loved the grits. I'm usually in town on Sunday when they are closed so this was a real treat. The two folks working were friendly and accommodating. Will definitely eat here again.

Chicken and sausage gumbo. look how dark they got that roux. Yum!

Excellent! Owners are from Louisiana and we're very friendly. The place is tiny and I'm reluctant to give a review because sooner rather than later they will outgrow this space. I just don't want to wait in long lines for this deliciousness. For America standards the portion was small but quite honestly that is exactly what the portion should be and it was delicious beyond measure. To be fair prices did math portion size. This is a must try if you're ever in Huntington.

Gumbo, potato salad and a Pepsi (they also have Coke and RC Cola)

Even once we were seated the server was telling us that the kitchen was a bit backed up so that is why our food was taking a little longer. Our waitress was nice and friendly. She gave us honest opinions about the items on the menu, which is always great to have. We ordered the Meggie's Bread Sticks with Cheese as our appetizer. It was delicious, especially with the added cheese. It came with some red sauce stuff to dip the bread sticks in. The pizza we got was the 14 inch Gladiator. It had 6 slices. It was good, but a bit messy (and hot when it first came out). At the end we ordered the Backyard Hay Stack (minus the nuts). That was really good as well and we devoured it. The ambience was good. It was a little loud, however it was crowded. There was a little astronaut theme going on here. I recommend coming to Backyard Pizza.

Great atmosphere, but serious seafood safety concerns…read more I really wanted to love this spot the vibe is fun, the service was decent, and the menu looked promising. But unfortunately, I had a serious issue with the mussel dish I was served. When the bowl arrived, most of the mussels were completely closed, which is a huge red flag for anyone familiar with seafood. As a general food safety rule: if a mussel doesn't open during cooking, it was likely dead before being cooked and it's unsafe to eat. I flagged it right away to avoid getting sick, and while the server acknowledged it and took off $4, that felt like a very minimal gesture for a dish that could have caused food poisoning. I'm grateful I caught it before taking a bite, but serving unopened shellfish isn't just a minor mistake it's a health hazard. The cream sauce itself was tasty, and the bread was good, but the overall experience left me cautious. If you're ordering seafood here, I recommend checking your plate carefully or maybe just skipping it altogether until kitchen safety improves. Hoping they step it up. Food safety isn't negotiable

The set up is hilariously insane, worth the stop alone. The cashier was fun and friendly, and the graffiti in the women's room was inspiring! Tucked away just a few minutes off I-64 in Barboursville, WV, this place offers eccentric hot dogs at a reasonable price. Using all beef dogs they create some wild and crazy options as well as the basics. Surprisingly they have non-dog choices and some vegetarian options too. Look, truth be told the dogs themselves are average, but you're not here just for the food. You're here for the experience. The place is decorated - every square inch of it - with stuff that looks like it came right off the Clampett's jalopy. (Look it up kids.) Bring your aw shucks attitude, because the punny signs are everywhere. And with a little planning ahead, apparently you can actually get married in the Weddin' Chapel. It's tacky and corny and therefore the perfect roadside stop. We arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday and had a short wait. When we left under an hour later, the line was creeping towards the street. Our line moved quickly in part to the friendly staff. The wait for our food wasn't long either. There was plenty of outdoor shady seating, but you can also sit inside in their "renovated" school bus. Is it a 5-star dining experience? No. Is it a 5-star road trip destination. You bet yer britches!
