We recently worked with Nick and his team at our winter wedding at Salvage One and I'd highly recommend them to anyone! Nick was super easy to work with and very calm. My bridal party loved him because he was sure to keep the mood chill and keep us laughing while we posed away. He was early to arrive on the day of, he was communicative at the reception and at the same time so out of the way I didn't even really notice our pictures being taken. We met with Nick a few weeks before the wedding and talked about what we liked and didn't like and he had a lot of examples of locations to offer and worked with us on the schedule. Now, a few weeks later we've received our pictures and couldn't be happier with the results. What else could you wish for? THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHERS EVER!!!! Mike Scarpelli and one of their associate photographers, Belen, shot our wedding and the photos are AMAZING! First, Mike and Belen were so down to earth and easy to work with. They were great to have around on the wedding day. Second, the pictures could not be any better. I have been getting so many comments about how great they are and my biggest dilemma right now is narrowing all the shots down to 100 for our album! Yes this studio is on the pricier side, but they are so so so worth it. Gerber and Scarpelli were absolutely wonderful to work with at out November 2013 wedding. We had Emily C as our main photographer and she did outstanding work! We just got our pictures back and we cannot stop gushing over them and sending them to basically any acquaintance we have ever met! Emily was wonderful from our first meeting onwards. We did an engagement shoot with her as well and had wonderful shots for a save-the-date card! she had an assistant with her the day of our wedding (who was also fun and a delight to be with as well). We hired Gerber + Scarpelli to photograph our wedding after meeting with several photographers in the area. They came recommended to us from some friends and after seeing their photos we knew they would do a great job. From the start they were easy to work with and willing to customize a package that fit our budget and wish list. Kurt & Melody were our photographers for the big day and they were excellent. They were on time and professional the whole time. We had planned to take pictures in the city but it ended up raining and Kurt had a good back up plan ready to go. He took some great shots throughout the day and really captured the memories I have of my own wedding. This review is for Old St. Pat's brides who are beginning their initial research for a photographer ... I would love to be able write a review of Gerber+Scarpelli photography -- it looks stunning on their website. But I can't. I contacted them to ask about photography availability for my wedding, and met with radio silence. I sent a query email first and got no response. After waiting a couple days, I called the studio, and talked with someone who said they'd send me information. But they didn't. After such glowing reviews on Yelp, I expected a little bit more than nothing, which is what I got. I'm getting married at Old St. Pat's, which means there is a very limited list of photographers I can call to photograph my wedding. So it's frustrating that one of the vendors is a black hole. I even tried to contact Orange2Photography, which is apparently closely associated with Gerber+Scarpelli, and got the same treatment. So, OSP brides -- I strongly recommend that you start somewhere else on the list. I met with other photographers who were incredibly responsive, showed phenomenal portfolios and had excellent personalities. G+S apparently has enough business; they probably don't need yours. If this is how they treat a potential customer, I shudder to think about their follow through once they actually have you locked into a contract. read more

Mike and Belen were absolutely phenomenal. They talked to me a few times before the wedding to make sure they understood our style as a couple & that we had appropriate venues chosen for photos. They were flexible with timeline & worked extremely well with our other vendors (trolley) to make sure we captured the day well. We were able to have a beautiful mix of chicago classic scenery / urban chicago (the bridge / L as the background) as well as classically beautiful (olive park!!) but not touristy chicago. Mike asked us to make a list of our "must have photos" and worked within our vendor restrictions (church only allowed 15 minutes for photos) to make sure the most important and special moments were captured. The photos were also edited beautifully and returned to us in a a few weeks! These two really have an eye for creating magical moments, and I'm beyond thrilled with how they captured our special day. read more

My (now) husband and I had the pleasure of working with Gerber + Scarpelli for one of my bridal showers, engagement pictures, our rehearsal dinner, and our wedding day. We worked mostly with Mike but everyone made us feel comfortable and relaxed. We have not received our wedding photos back yet (our wedding was 12.31.16), but if they are anything like all the other photos we've had taken by them, they will be beyond amazing- no doubt. Mike and his team were amazing to work with. It was very important to me to work with someone who could, not only,capture my ideas, but also bring their creative side to the shots. We hired Mike Scarpelli to immortalize my sister's 40th birthday party....and we are so happy we did! The photos were beautiful, the mood captured, the night will live immortal. If I could give 1000 stars, i would. Tim Jarosz was our wedding photographer and if you have the opportunity to have him for your wedding, consider yourself extremely fortunate! We had to "fire" another unnamed studio due to reoccurring problems, so when we came to Gerber and Scarpelli (highly recommended by another friend with AMAZING wedding photos) I was skeptical. Tim put me at ease IMMEDIATELY. The photos were my greatest source of anxiety, and Tim actually had me excited to have our pictures taken. From that meeting up until the day of the wedding, Tim was accessible, knowledgeable and reassuring. On the day of the wedding, he was right there taking amazing photos from the second he arrived. Everyone LOVED him. I have received so many compliments about how friendly and enthusiastic he was. People who hate getting their picture taken loved having Tim take their picture. He did not overly pose people, so people looked natural and comfortable. He gave just the right amount of direction. People were commenting about how much fun they were having with the pictures (my husband and I included!). He also has an amazing command of Chicago and knew where to get the most breathtaking city shots. Then, we actually received the photos and were BLOWN AWAY. In addition to his friendly, enthusiastic demeanor, Tim's talent is second to none. He was incredibly hard working, and exceeded every expectation we had. I cannot say enough about how happy I am with Tim and the final photos. read more

Do not use these people for video. I've had a horrible experience. To put it to you lightly, it's been more than 6 months since my wedding day and I still don't have my final videos. Day of experience went well. My photographer hired a video assistant to help with video shooting, audio, etc. After my wedding is when things began to get messy. After continuing to ask where my videos were, and getting the runaround, we contacted the owner. The photographer finally reaches back out to let me know the audio got messed up and that's why he hasn't contacted. He said he was trying to fix it but it's now been 2 months since that revelation, and still don't have my final videos. I haven't even seen the toasts, and got a highlight video that doesn't even show us doing our vows! It's been frustrating to say the least and honestly wish we would've never done this. If you're considering Gerber Scarpelli, I would reconsider. A wedding is a very important day and you don't want it left on people who don't know what they are doing. read more

Nick did an incredible job capturing candid shots as well as posed shots that he managed to make look totally natural. He made both my husband and I feel totally at ease in front of the camera, and was a joy to have around the whole day. He provided direction when we needed him to and let us do our own thing when he wanted to capture us naturally. We told him we wanted a lot of urban shots in the city, and he delivered! Mike Scarpelli photographed my daughter's wedding. He was so wonderful to work with. He was calm, low key, professional, humorous, fun. He came to the hotel first and got the most beautiful shots of my daughters and I getting ready. During the wedding and reception you barely knew he was there but the photos prove he was everywhere!!! They then traveled all around the city and he took some of the most creative shots I have ever seen. We feel so blessed to have had him take the pictures for our special day. I had the pleasure of coordinating a wedding in November of 2016 where Nick and Belen were the photographers. A few friends had worked with Nick to photograph their weddings in the past and were so pleased with the photos, so I was looking forward to this opportunity to partner together for our mutual clients. Nick was friendly and helpful in email communication leading up to the wedding, providing recommendations and insight on his favorite photo locations for the first look, couples portraits, and wedding party group shots, all within walking distance of the wedding location in Chicago's loop neighborhood. On the day of the wedding, both he and Belen brought a relaxed, positive presence into the room from the moment they arrived to shoot getting ready photos in the bride's suite, sharing laughs and jokes with the bride right off the bat. It's one thing to have great camera skills, but the best wedding photographers, in my opinion, have great people skills too, with friendly personalities that contribute to the joy of the occasion. Photographers capture intimate and emotional moments throughout the day and I always want my clients to feel comfortable in their presence; Nick and Belen were able to achieve just that. Nick was also great during family photos - helping gather the appropriate family members, staging each grouping in a timely manner. They were wonderful vendor partners and I enjoyed working with both of them throughout the wedding day. In my initial conversations with the bride, she informed me that working with Nick and Gerber + Scarpelli for photography was the vendor decision she was most excited about having made. My wife and I were married in November of 2008, and during the planning we met with Lizz Sisson of Gerber + Scarpelli, and I was pretty confident within minutes that she was the photographer that we needed. Now, her portfolio is amazing, and the work from the rest of the photographers at the studio is enough to make your jaw drop, but it was her patientce, humor, hard work and zest for the unconventional that really made her amazing. I dabble in photography, and absolutely did not want the typical wedding photos (kissing in front of the lake, bridal party in Lasalle Street) and Lizz made it clear that she could easily do all of that, but was also more than capable of making our photos unique. She is very responsive, accommodating (she helped us get our engagement photos together for a DVD slideshow at our reception cocktail hour), patient and tough (lugged what seemed like 185 pounds of camera equipment all around the city for our engagement photos) and supportive (talked me off the ledge a few times in the days coming up to the wedding). She arrived on our wedding day with a second photographer, Emily who was equally as level-headed and enjoyable to be around (proving they have great DOF). They were never intrusive or pushy, and most importantly, the photos from our wedding day are spectacular! Unique, beautiful and really in touch with the feeling of the day. I almost cringe to say it, but I have looked through our slideshow and wedding pics a few times, and I have to hold back the tears (granted, I can be an easy crier). If you are looking for wedding photography, studio photography, portraits or whatever - make sure you at least take a look at their portfolios. It would be well worth your while! read more

I met with several different photographers when I started planning my wedding last year and as soon as my now-husband and I met with Mike Scarpelli, the choice was obvious, Mike's such an easy-going , funny guy, I knew he would be the type to make us feel comfortable on the big day. We spent some more time with him during our engagement shoot and my face honestly hurt from laughing so much by the end of the day! He just makes everything feel so natural. On the day of the wedding, he and Maggie shot us and they were such a pleasure to work with. Super relaxed and got all of the shots they needed without making the day "all about taking pictures."
