First of all, the space is a gorgeous blend of modern with historic St Paul woven in. Upon arrival you are offered complementary drinks, so I opted for an iced vanilla latte with oatmilk. It was absolutely delicious, made with high quality espresso. Monica Turner is my stylist and she is an incredibly talented professional. I've had my hair colored by her a number of times, and she is a true genius who can take my vague description and turn it into a stunning final product! I love being in Monica's chair and am so grateful to have finally found a hair person who just gets me. Street parking available around the salon and it's easy to make an appointment online. We've since moved a few miles away, but I go back and see Jen every 4 weeks and never want to go anywhere else. It's more expensive than going to Great Clips, but working with someone who knows my hair and how I want it cut and who always does an awesome job is worth the premium. The Rat's Nest Salon seems to be filled with friendly people and good products. Actually, I found my new favorite paste here and I couldn't be happier. A small complaint, but not enough to dock it a star, would be that there isn't a parking lot. I haven't had any trouble finding parking, but that might change in the winter when it is covered in snow. I like that there is online booking and pricing. Once booked, they send you reminder emails a few days before the appointment. Never had a bad experience with Megs or Aaron and enjoy their company while I'm there. Highly recommended.

Its a small shop in downtown St. Paul sandwiched on the block between St. Joseph Hospital and The History Theater. Its a no frills place: one barber on duty, a few chairs for waiting, and a couple of TVs. Best way to get in is to make an appointment, but walk-ins are possible. Must be good as what they do as they always seem busy when I'm there. All the parking is on the street so in downtown St. Paul that means meters but even at the busiest time you can park with a block (two at the most). I drive in from the suburbs to come here for good reason. $16 a basic cut and I look great everytime. If you are looking for a place give them a try.

Plus I don't want to wear a mask for the 1.5 to 2.5 hours that it takes to get shampoo, haircut, and easy style. So I looked up a local place that seems like it'd be affordable. Anh's was great! It seems like her daughter Erica is someone that people love (and requires more advance appt scheduling), but I just needed a simple haircut and Anh was available for a same day appt. Anh and her daughter (not Erica, but a really sweet 30-something woman) were there to welcome me. They were so chatty and put me right at ease. They had masks on the whole time and I kept my mask on for the majority of the time unless they needed to maneuver without it on. Anh gave me the haircut I showed her, and adjusted it to the length that I requested. $20 and 45 mins later, it was all done! I gave her a generous tip because this is really affordable. LOVE supporting local.

I'm still very Impressed and love my hair cut and the whole experience! Scott worked with me to get it the right length, etc. totally stress free.... so glad I found him. Let's start with that I loath going to spas and beauticians. There are often terrible smells of carcinogenic chemicals (ammonia, acetone, etc). Add to that they are noisy and crowded. Scott Millers Studio is the opposite of most places. No bad smells, one chair and personal attention. Add to that hair artistry. I came in with long straggly hair.... ithad been 2-3 years since my last hair cut. My hair really needed to be styled and yet it needed to be something I could duplicate, and I needed a new look (no more earth mother braid). Scott got it right away, worked with me and gave me a cut I could manage and that was becoming. No more braid . I am grateful for his patience and artistry. Highly recommended.
