3.5 stars! WOW writing this review while i am super thirsty was a bad idea in retrospect!! they serve REFRESHING shaved snow & top it with any combo of the many uniquely flavored syrups... pretty much hawaiian style BUT what i LOVE about their ice is that its SUPER FINEly shaved & you have the option of adding ICE CREAM underneath to create pretty much a creamsicle in a bowl!!! add some "sweet cream" (which is just condensed milk) on top & you are on your way to a sugar high if you can't handle too much sugar, they offer so many sizes, even down to a mini UFO disc size for a food truck, I'd consider this truck pretty cheap (i feel like they could be charging way more), so follow on twitter & track down your summer's THIRST QUENCH w/ this truck!

I had a work event last week and was surprised to see the Get Shaved truck there to cater to our sweet tooth! I was extra pleased because I haven't tried this truck yet. We were able to make our own shaved ice combination or pick from their specialties. The only downside was we only had the vanilla ice cream, we couldn't get the azuki bean or mochi. I was able to try the PassioNut, Monkey Brains, and Let Them Eat Cake. I also made my own with mango and lychee. All were very good, I couldn't pick a favorite but the sweetened condensed milk on the Monkey Brains and Let Them Eat Cake was a great add on. The staff on site was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our treats. I'll need to stalk this truck and try the different ice cream flavors, azuki beans and mochi the next time!

Simply. Amazing! After hearing so many great things about it, my friend and I decided to hunt the truck down. But I didn't wanna get my hopes up. "I mean, it's just shaved ice... how good can it be?" I ordered the PassioNut which had Passion Fruit, Coconut and Melona flavoring with Vanilla Ice Cream. I also got the sweet cream on top which is their way of saying condensed milk. MMM! But what blew me away was the consistency of the ice. It was soooooooooo soft and smooth and just out of this world! My favorite flavoring was the Melona. It tasted just like Korean melon bars! I think it's worth the wait, especially on a hot summer day if you're not in a hurry. And for those of you who don't like hunting down these food trucks, they just opened their store in Northridge! Yay! I can't wait to try more of their other flavors! :)

If you've been to Oahu and tried either Wiola or Matsumoto shaved ice, you'll really appreciate the texture and flavor of Get Shaved truck's shaved ice. If this truck passed by my house everyday, I'd be in BIG trouble because I'd be buying one every single day! The ice is like snow without all that grainy or crunchy texture. This shaved ice is pure heaven with the right amount of sweetness to every bite. I ordered the Banana, Mango and Watermelon with vanilla ice cream on the bottom. Ok, I gotta admit that having ice cream on the bottom seemed like a weird idea at first. But since everyone else that I went with ordered ice cream, I've decided to just go along with the crowd. Wowsers!! Must get ice cream! I felt like being back in Hawaii again. I've never experienced any shaved ice in LA that was any bit similar to Wiola's or Matsumoto's. I'm glad that this truck exists and I'm even more happier that I can get this any time if I'm in the Torrance area. Yes folks, they have an actual store in Torrance. Now if they can open up a store in SGV area.....=)

Monkey Brains - Strawberry & Banana on Vanilla Ice Cream with Condensed Milk

Sweeeeet Shaved Ice ... bah bah baaaah ... good times never tasted so good...so good...so good. Sweeeet Shaved Ice. The portable Get Shaved Truck and team had me singing like a drunk BoSox Fan except I was high on sweet syrup and condensed milk. Our company had an outing this past week catered by food trucks and they saved the best for last. The Get Shaved crew delivered some sweet and sugary desserts that kept us wired for the rest of the afternoon. The choices were tempting and the combinations endless. Each Shave Ice starts with Vanilla Ice Cream and crushed ice is packed on top by the Shave-meister. He handed it off to the Syrup Queen who applied the flavors. In front of me, people were getting beautiful combinations like Monkey Brains with Strawberry & Banana or Rockin' Rainbow with Cherry, Blue Raspberry, and Pineapple. I followed my heart with a Let Them Eat Cake. It's Blue Vanilla, Coconut, and Pineapple Shave Ice with Sweetened Condensed Milk. This is the way to have your cake and scoop it, too. Where it began I can't begin to knowin' But then I know its growin strong Was in the spring And spring became the summer Who'd have believed you'd come along Ice, touchin Ice Cream Reachin out Touchin me Touchin you Sweet Shaved Ice ... bah-Bah-bah Good times never seemed so good.

Small with Guave, Passion Fruit and Pineapple

So fresh and so clean clean. Get Shaved Hit the spot a few hours later after my food truck gluttony on Sawtelle. I first had them at food truck day for Heal the Bay when I snagged a few spoonfuls of Jin's Rainbow treat. If i wasn't so full I would have easily been able to eat it all. On this visit I kept it simple and went for the small size and picked my three syrup flavors. I felt kind of tropical so I went for Pineapple, Guava and Passion Fruit. No ice cream under my ice this time as that seriously would have pushed me over the top. But next time for sure I'm topping mine with mochi! Staff on both my visits were cool as ice. The perfect treat on a hot summer day or a warm October night. I'd totally even be down to have them in the rain.

55 minutes from the time I waited in line until I enjoyed my shaved ice. Is it worth it? Not if you're in a hurry. But I got plenty of time so I waited and waited and waited. Choose your 3 flavors, free toppings (sweet cream, li hing mui, sour powder) and additional toppings (vanilla ice cream and azuki beans). Or choose from the 6 shaved ice combos (rocking rainbow, root beer dream, passionfruit, monkey brains, sour puss and let them eat cake). My mango, guava, coconut combo with vanilla ice cream and azuki beans shaved ice was sweet, juicy and satisfying. Why didn't I add pineapple..that would make it extra sweet. The ice cream melted in my mouth combined with sweet azuki beans..WOW!! 3 times the fun with guava, mango and coconut. 3 combos in 55 minutes. I was happy and smiling and happy and smiling again. 5 stars. I've been coming here too many times. Rain or shine. Get Shaved is yummylicious!!

Get Shaved @ The Brig

On a unique evening that left me trying the Dosa Truck, Let's Be Frank Trailer and the Cool Haus ice cream truck (they were all together @ the Barnsdall Art Park), I left LA pretty disappointed with a stomach full of bland dosas, a mediocre hot dog and an ice cream (which got fairly messy) served with an edible wrapper, I just got tired of eating it...eh, miserable... I saw on twitter (www.twitter.com/getshaved), Get Shaved was at The Brig and thought, "This could be really good, or real bad..." You'd think, you can't screw up shave ice, but trust me, I've gone to "Hawaiian" places in Cali and have been served a damn snow cone...If I wanted a raspado, I would have stayed in the hood and waited for the local raspadero to honk his horn. Instead, I head to Venice... I walked up and saw a line of people waiting to order from the Kogi line. As I panned to the right, I noticed that there was only 1 person in line for Get Shaved. I got in line, and soon things changed =D Looking at the menu, I was glad to see the wide variety of syrups and sprays that they have available. Everything is of course made to order, so you can pick and choose what you want. I wanted one with ice cream so I opted for the "monkey brains". The wait was about 5 minutes or so for as the ice had to be processed (shaved and then kinda sculpted I guess), flavors added, etc. The texture and flavors reminded me of the shave ice in Hawaii. Awesome stuff...oooh, sweet nostalgia...All that was missing was the stray roosters and red dirt stains on my car! After a night of disappointing trucks, thank you Get Shaved for giving me back my faith in this catering truck renaissance...

Combo #5: Sour Puss (lime, pineapple, + watermelon over ice cream w/ sour spray on top)

I was driving along Eagle Rock coming back from my so-so French dinner + suddenly I see Kogi Truck! Oooohhh... but uh, errr... I just ate... But wait... what's that behind it?! The GET SHAVED TRUCK!!! It was nearly 9pm so we busted a U-turn + quickly found street parking to make it as one of the last customers of the night. Sure we already had dessert... but this one was a zillion times better! Especially since it was 1/2 the price + oh so much more refreshing. I got the #5 Combo: Sour Puss (lime, pineapple, + watermelon over ice cream w/ sour spray on top) while my friend got the #6 Combo: Let Them Eat Cake (pineapple, coconut, blue vanilla over ice cream). This was my friend's first time experiencing the Get Shaved truck + she was really surprised at how delicious it was. The soft ice + perfectly balanced sweetness of the syrupy flavors are far beyond any other snow cone you've probably tried at some carnival or circus in the past. This is the real deal! And over creamy vanilla ice cream... mmmm! I haven't yet tried a flavor or combination I haven't liked. Lime is always my staple flavor of choice + it has always mixed delightfully with anything. Ultimate favorite mixture is Lime, Passionfruit + Strawberry. Gotta love having the opportunity to choose 3 flavor choices especially since their menu has soooooo many to choose from! =) 3-Flavor Prices: UFO: $2 Small: $3 Medium: $3.50 Large: $4 Combo Prices (basically $0.50 more bc of the ice cream add-on) UFO: $2.50 Small: $3.50 Medium: $4 Large: $4.50

I only got a bite of the magic that was Get Shaved, while at the LA Street Food Festival but last night I got to actually check out the truck in its entirety. Pat was super nice and we chatted it up at the Altadena location. My order "monkey brain" and some knew flavor at the bottom of the menu with a name that I can't remember but it had pineapple, coconut and vanilla with condensed milk. It was funny because I thought I might have to freeze my monkey brain for later since the lady was practically asleep when I left the house for this magical dessert so I asked how it was frozen. Pat told me that obviously it is not as good because you get a crispy outter layer that you need to defrost it for about 10 minutes before you break thru and devour the soft center. I guess he has some ladies that each week order about 6 each and do this all week until the following week when they get to Get Shaved again...wow the devotion, one that I can totally understand. Price here is totally reasonable too and low calorie is my idea of a good dessert. No Pink Berry, No Yogurtland, No Beard Papa...not anymore Pat if you venture up to Alta again or some place local like Pas, Eaglerock, Arcadia...I will totally come Get Shaved instead.

When Ciara G heard that Get Shaved was going to be on Sawtelle, even hours after we had just left Lardon, Phamish and Bool, we were back! Yes, Amy B - WE CAME BACK : P !! This was my first time, but as soon as I looked at the extensive menu, I spied what sounded like my thing: Ufo sized (the smallest) Let Them Eat Cake, add mochi ($2.50 + $ .50) - a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the very bottom, covered with the softest shave ice I've ever laid tongue on! The ice was juiced up with pineapple and coconut syrups, there was sweetened milk somewhere in there, and a spoonful of mochi balls on top. I totally expected this concoction to be overpoweringly sweet, but it was NOT! It was light and refreshing, and the fruity ice was great with the vanilla ice cream. Plus the cold temperature of the ice made the mochi balls extra chewy.....mmmmmm...... All this for the bargain price of $3! Wooohooooo!!!!! I'll be back to Get Shaved again!!

OHHHH how i yearn for Get Shaved at least 5 times a week. Ever since i first tried them when they came to my neighborhood with Kogi i've been an addict. Now, i have neverrrrr been into shaved ice, or snow cones or anything like that. Not my style. It was the same story everytime...the ice on top would be basically just plain, crunchy ice while all of the flavoring fell down to the bottom. Thank the lord that this is not the case with Get Shaved. They have it dowwwwwn to a science. The ice is super fluffy and light so it soaks up all of the delicious flavoring that they have to offer...and they have tons of different flavors to offer. From your typical strawberry & blue raspberry to passionfruit and guava. So, so good. And as if that isn't enough, they have sour spray and sweet cream (condensed milk), but i definitely opt for the sour spray. 2 of the guys who work the vehicle know me and know just how i like it, so they literally unscrew the spray top of the sour spray bottle, and literally POUR sour spray all over my ice. Hahaha. I'm sick. But it is absolutely delicious. And everyone who works here is really nice and very generous. Guava/Mango/Passionfruit+shit loads of sour spray = the end to an amazing night, every night. I suggest you get on it immediately.

With plenty of parking since it's located in a shopping plaza, this small shaved ice and boba shop may be the only shaved ice in the area. I haven't really searched for any others because Brian's always gets the job done. I remember this was one of the first shops, back in the day, that had the dole whip ("they have the dole whip that Disneyland has!!") and people used to come for that. Now you can get dole whip anywhere but those were good times. They haven't expanded on the size, but they've kept this place up and the service is still excellent. Every time I come in, the seats are clean, if people aren't sitting in them and the vibe is cool. I used to always order a shaved ice, but lately, my oldest and I have been into their boba drinks. My youngest always get a shaved ice with 3 flavors and he loves some sour spray. My oldest always gets a milk tea boba and I switch off between all the milk tea boba flavors. This time I went with the jasmine milk tea and I wasn't feeling that one as much. I am a fan of lavender, caramel, taro, Thai and chai, and my goal is to ultimately try them all. I highly recommend Brian's after all of these years and make sure to grab a stamp card. If you have kids, it'll fill up fast! 10 stamps gets you a free item! OOOOO 5 out of 5 Afros

Today I was in the plaza during rush hour and I was soooo thirsty and I knew that my drive would be long so I decided to finally stop in and grab a drink! Upon entering I was greeted by friendly staff and she explained to me about the different teas, I asked what is refreshing and what most people like the most and she told me it's between the mango dragonfruit or the Passion fruit strawberry. I decided to go with the Mango Dragonfruit Jasmine ice tea. She offered me boba, popping boba, or custard add ons but I was just thirsty so I got it plain. Also it is awesome that you can choose how sweet you want to make your drink. I prefer drinks that are not very sweet so I got mine at 25% sweetness. The options are 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%. At 25% I felt that my drink was perfect to my tastes! I went with the large size because I wanted my drink to last until I got home. Surprisingly I didn't have to wait very long, almost a minute after I ordered my drink was already ready to go! I don't think I've ever had a Jasmine tea before so on my first sip I was surprised that I could actually taste the jasmine flower as an undertone to the mango and dragonfruit, but it really tastes delicious and refreshed me!
