Get shaved was our family go to when they were in Northridge for so many years. When both stores were closed, we couldn't find anything to replace it with. Until my son found out they were now on wheels. For my birthday/Easter party, my family booked them as a gift. It was a treat for 50 guests and they all raved about them. The service was top notch! Flavors are unique. We just booked them for a graduation party today and it was another great hit! I'm so glad they're back in business. I had a work event last week and was surprised to see the Get Shaved truck there to cater to our sweet tooth! I was extra pleased because I haven't tried this truck yet. We were able to make our own shaved ice combination or pick from their specialties. The only downside was we only had the vanilla ice cream, we couldn't get the azuki bean or mochi. I was able to try the PassioNut, Monkey Brains, and Let Them Eat Cake. I also made my own with mango and lychee. All were very good, I couldn't pick a favorite but the sweetened condensed milk on the Monkey Brains and Let Them Eat Cake was a great add on. The staff on site was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our treats. Simply. Amazing! After hearing so many great things about it, my friend and I decided to hunt the truck down. But I didn't wanna get my hopes up. "I mean, it's just shaved ice... how good can it be?" I ordered the PassioNut which had Passion Fruit, Coconut and Melona flavoring with Vanilla Ice Cream. I also got the sweet cream on top which is their way of saying condensed milk. MMM! The line is not that long but the wait is! Even with all the staff working on making shaved ice, it still took awhile before it came out. I got here a little late today which is my fault but still there was like 3 people in front of us. It's just a long process to wait when there are many orders stuck in front of you. On a unique evening that left me trying the Dosa Truck, Let's Be Frank Trailer and the Cool Haus ice cream truck (they were all together @ the Barnsdall Art Park), I left LA pretty disappointed with a stomach full of bland dosas, a mediocre hot dog and an ice cream (which got fairly messy) served with an edible wrapper, I just got tired of eating it...eh, miserable... I saw on twitter (www.twitter.com/getshaved), Get Shaved was at The Brig and thought, "This could be really good, or real bad..." You'd think, you can't screw up shave ice, but trust me, I've gone to "Hawaiian" places in Cali and have been served a damn snow cone...If I wanted a raspado, I would have stayed in the hood and waited for the local raspadero to honk his horn. Instead, I head to Venice... I walked up and saw a line of people waiting to order from the Kogi line. As I panned to the right, I noticed that there was only 1 person in line for Get Shaved. I got in line, and soon things changed =D Looking at the menu, I was glad to see the wide variety of syrups and sprays that they have available. I was driving along Eagle Rock coming back from my so-so French dinner + suddenly I see Kogi Truck! Oooohhh... but uh, errr... I just ate... But wait... what's that behind it?! The GET SHAVED TRUCK!!! It was nearly 9pm so we busted a U-turn + quickly found street parking to make it as one of the last customers of the night. Sure we already had dessert... but this one was a zillion times better! Especially since it was 1/2 the price + oh so much more refreshing. I only got a bite of the magic that was Get Shaved, while at the LA Street Food Festival but last night I got to actually check out the truck in its entirety. Pat was super nice and we chatted it up at the Altadena location. My order "monkey brain" and some knew flavor at the bottom of the menu with a name that I can't remember but it had pineapple, coconut and vanilla with condensed milk. It was funny because I thought I might have to freeze my monkey brain for later since the lady was practically asleep when I left the house for this magical dessert so I asked how it was frozen. Pat told me that obviously it is not as good because you get a crispy outter layer that you need to defrost it for about 10 minutes before you break thru and devour the soft center. I guess he has some ladies that each week order about 6 each and do this all week until the following week when they get to Get Shaved again...wow the devotion, one that I can totally understand. OHHHH how i yearn for Get Shaved at least 5 times a week. Ever since i first tried them when they came to my neighborhood with Kogi i've been an addict. Now, i have neverrrrr been into shaved ice, or snow cones or anything like that. Not my style. It was the same story everytime...the ice on top would be basically just plain, crunchy ice while all of the flavoring fell down to the bottom. Thank the lord that this is not the case with Get Shaved. They have it dowwwwwn to a science. The ice is super fluffy and light so it soaks up all of the delicious flavoring that they have to offer...and they have tons of different flavors to offer. From your typical strawberry & blue raspberry to passionfruit and guava. So, so good. And as if that isn't enough, they have sour spray and sweet cream (condensed milk), but i definitely opt for the sour spray. 2 of the guys who work the vehicle know me and know just how i like it, so they literally unscrew the spray top of the sour spray bottle, and literally POUR sour spray all over my ice. Hahaha. I'm sick. But it is absolutely delicious. And everyone who works here is really nice and very generous. Now, instead of trying to FIND ono eats, ono eats come to me! If you've been to Aoki's on the North Shore, then you will love Get Shaved. Sure, it's not Aoki's, but it's damn close and fantastic mainland fare. They offer traditional style shave ice: vanilla ice cream and azuki beans with li-hing mui! "Get Shaved" could mean a lot of things. Is it a salon? a barber shop? will I get ingrowns? Luckily, they serve snow cones- shave ice, to be exact. I had somewhat low expectations for this truck. Shave ice, while refreshing on a hot day, is also difficult for me to enjoy without having my top third of snow end up on the ground after my first spoonful, but these guys know what they're doing, serving perfectly delicious shave ice; the first I ever had that was truly suitable for take-away. Yes, the snow is melt-in-your-mouth fluffy as all get-go, a fine powder into which I wanted to jump and make snow angels; the syrup pour is heavy-handed, the flavor not only concentrated in the first several bites, but continues to the bottom of your cup, down to the last spoonful. The shave ice that Get Shaved makes tastes better than that of Aoki's and Matsumoto's on the North Shore on Oahu--and I told them so! They make their own syrup AND have included "local" flavors such as guava, blue hawaii (vanilla+coconut), mango and passion fruit (aka "lilikoi") that are SUPER yummy. I got in line for this truck at the @tlofts fundraiser on 1/23/2010, but after 20 minutes of the line not moving at all (I assumed it was some ice supply issue), I walked to my car and left. I really wanted that shave ice, people. Imagine my excitement when, while out at the mall hours later, I read them tweet that they would be in my 'hood. It's a sign. It's karma. It's kismet. It's some delcious shave ice. I ordered the rainbow, no ice cream. I got this heavenly concoction of super fluffy shaved ice packed down and covered in cherry, pineapple and blue raspberry syrup with a healthy dose of "sweet cream" drizzled on top. Oh yeah. I miss me my shave ice from Hawaii. So, I've been positively salivating just thinking about it. We had our son order it for us to share since we were at the OC Foodie Fest and I had the brilliant idea of kicking off our food fest with some shave ice. I love the flavors he chose. I think it was raspberry. Never mind, I had to get to the bottom for the icecream. Hubby compared it to Waiola (which is not one of my faves, but still good) which has the same finely shaven ice consistency. Flavor wise, awesome too! I've stalked them since my days working in LA. They were the best end to ANY greesy, fatty lunch meal. Oh how I've missed them after moving back to OC for a job. LUCKILY, they were there at OC Foodie Fest. I got sunburned waiting in a 1.5 hour line for their shaved ice and so worth every single second. It was hot and Get Shaved hit the spot. Monkey Brains - 5 stars! Hands down the best shaved ice flavor I've ever had. Their syrups, ice cream, and flavor combo wins everytime. Their shaved ice is seriously perfect, all even crystals. Saw the truck when driving by Almansor park in Alhambra on a Friday evening so we stopped to try some shave ice. We got a medium with blue hawaii, mango, and watermelon with condensed milk (first topping is free). We also added mochi ($0.50 each addition). The shave ice was nice and fluffy and they were generous with the syrup. I didn't like the mochi because they use the packaged mochi that you usually see at Yogurtland so it was too sweet for me. They also have vanilla ice cream and azuki beans. I wish they had macademia nut ice cream like they do in Hawaii! The shave ice still doesn't compare to Hawaii but pretty good compared to others in this area. read more

I love this food truck! I am a huge fan of Hawaiian shaved ice and Get Shaved hits the spot and fulfills my cravings every time! They have a good selection of flavors to choose from. My favorite combo is their One Love which is melona, mango, and watermelon. Sometimes I like to substitute watermelon with strawberry or fruit punch to give it a different kind of taste. Either way it is still delicious! The texture of the ice is amazing. Smooth and soft just like how Hawaiian ice should be. A great addition to this dessert is vanilla ice cream--I don't know what brand they use but it is really rich, creamy, and fluffy--it compliments the ice really well. You also have a choice of condensed milk or sour spray as an additional free topping. Get the condensed milk and avoid their white macadamia ice cream (it tasted horrible). Their service is great. If you go often they remember who you are. They usually come to the Diamond Bar area on Wednesday nights; you can follow them on Twitter and find out when they are coming!
