We went online and checked pricing and this place seemed like the best deal and had such good reviews we came in. We were greeted by Megan who was incredibly helpful and sweet. Megans helpfulness is actually why this review has four stars instead of three. We were given instructions on the electric bikes that we rented and off we went. We got a little lost but that's OK we had plenty of time. Using the map they gave us we navigated through parts of the town the neighborhoods and then to the beautiful lake. Unfortunately one of our bikes kept turning off, and we had to continuously stop to either call and get talked through how to get it working again or finally we were able to figure it out and just had to repeat that over and over. This probably took about 30 minutes off of our bike ride- which was disappointing we wound up having to rush back instead of taking our time coming back. Since we were all together if one bicycle was broken down that meant none of us could go anywhere. I wish we were offered some type of accommodation for this as it would've been nice to been offered to come back or even a credit towards some other type of rental the next day for an hour or so to make up for our lost time. We probably wouldn't have taken them up on it but it would've been a nice gesture. read more

Visiting from NewPort Beach and we decided to go out on the mountain. So we stopped by get boards. The sweetest people work there!!!! Immediately when you walk in you're greeted by everyone. Ana and Cash gave us the best customer care we have ever had. They rock! This is now our favorite rental to go spot! Definitely referring this to all my family and friends! Give them a try!! All equipment is at the dock across the street for paddle boards and kayaks. Other rental places you have to roll the equipment to the water. Justice (employee at dock) was very nice and explained everything in detail and was very safety conscious and gave excellent tips while on the lake (go left due to wind and current is very strong and newbies/or people with not a lot of arm strength can become very tired trying to paddle up back toward the dock against the wind and current). He was right. It was very choppy and turning around to go back to the dock was easier and cannot imagine trying to paddle in the conditions at that time of day. Per justice, best time to go is in the morning before noon before the winds kick in. Paddle board was excellent condition. read more

The printer situation to print your reservation and give to the guys for your equipment is a disaster- mixed up reservations different print outs, prints your personal information after you leave. My friend and I rented two paddle boards and "Cyrus" who was assigned to the loading area helped us get situated and on the water. He was very polite, friendly, and funny making the experience really good for us! He gave clear instructions on the dos and don'ts of paddle boarding. There is a minimum renewal of 2 hours which today was a bummer because the water was super rough and choppy in certain areas limiting our ability to paddle out too far. It was 74 degrees at 4:00 pm but the wind was strong. We still had a great time, but we just kind of sat down and paddled so the board would actually go in the direction we wanted it to go lol:). First off, you can bring your four legged furbies with you while kayaking and paddle boarding for no additional fee!!! Woot, woot~~~ The store is right across from Veterans Park and they launch you from a private dock at Veterans Park. You don't have to lug the kayake or paddle board from one place to another. The equipment is all at the dock!! Talk about convenient!! (You can self-launch from their second location at Boulder Bay Park, which is a really pretty park right alongside the lake). There is parking at Veterans Park as well as clean restrooms. I made an online reservation a couple days before, went to the store the morning of and paid, and then we crossed the street to get launched!! The staff was very helpful, friendly, and informative!! The kind employee at the dock informed us of an algae bloom, so cautioned not to let our pooch drink the lake water. Ok, so we went kayaking for the first time today. We've heard that this place is the place to go to if you want a first rate experience, so we gave it a try. The kids that helped us get all set were great! They answered all of our questions, were very outgoing and service oriented. That was definitely a nice change in today's world of the 'no service' generation. We're in our 60's so it was definitely a welcome surprise. The kayaks were clean and in good shape and it was super easy getting them to the water. Big Bear has such a beautiful lake, it was a great way to spend the afternoon. After we were done, we brought them back and check out was easy also. We will definitely be coming back. What a blast! read more

We had a great experience renting kayaks here! Everyone was so helpful and nice from the person who checked us in at the shop to the people assisting us down at the dock. A member of our group had a knee injury and wasn't sure about accessibility. The staff members at the dock were very very patient and encouraging and made safety a top priority. They even offered a refund if the injured party felt too uncomfortable to get into the kayak which made us feel really comfortable. You can tell they really care about their customers having fun and feeling safe. Mike was especially helpful to us. He explained the rules and made sure we all got in and launched safely. Getboards has become our go-to for our snowboard gear rentals. We typically rent snowboards, boots, and, recently, pants. I like how convenient it is to rent from them. In my opinion, their step by step system makes it easy for customers to get what they need. They have two computers for customers to use to fill out rental forms which are connected to a printer. You take the print out to one of the staff and they'll get you fitted for boots. Then they'll direct you to someone else who will help match you with a snowboard or skis. Aside from the rental section, they also have a good variety of products/gears that are decently priced. We found some Burton gloves for the kids that were pretty inexpensive. The staff are great. Super helpful and friendly. We will definitely be coming here again and again for our future needs. read more

I recently went to Get Boards in Big Bear in search of snowboard bindings, and I was thoroughly impressed by the level of service provided by Julian. He not only provided information on all the different bindings while providing his recommendations; he also gave me useful information on snowboard camber, stance width, and stance angle. He was able to help find bindings for my older Burton board which has a unique 3D hole pattern, and made sure my boots fit properly in the bindings that he set up on my board. While waiting for the kayak reservations - Mr. Mike at the dock saw us sitting at one of the paddle boards and asked us to get up. We did. And he kept giving us a lecture on how paddle boards break and walked away yelling "unreal". I asked him for his name and he said he won't and apologized for his behavior. I clearly said I don't accept your behavior and I would like to know your name. We obviously didn't rent the kayak from that particular branch cos of Mr. Mike and his anger problems. Tis the season so as one might imagine they were incredibly busy with people renting gear but even with the high load of folks lined up throughout the entire store they were very efficient, friendly, and helpful! I got some boots for Christmas and they were the wrong size. I was able to exchange them for a different pair and although they didn't have the size I needed for the boots I initially had they hooked me up with another awesome pair! Julian was rad, very knowledgeable with boots and bindings and again very friendly. Would recommend this place to any of my friends, even if it's very busy. read more

The kayak rental process went super smoothly. Our car broke down in the driveway and one of the staff offered a jump start kit to use. After fixing that, we went across the street (veteran park) and the staff there were really friendly and helpful. We kayaked for ~2hrs starting at 3pm, but it was quite windy and cold so we were kind of freezing afterwards (make sure to bring extra towels and clothes)! I've also used Getboards for snowboarding season before the pandemic as well, and they make the rental process easy even when there's a bunch of people. The whole crew was cool, welcoming, & helpful... especially the lady at the front cashier who called my brother back to the store to let us know there was still reservations available for a night session at Snow Summit. I forgot her name, but shout out to her too. Having a good costumer service crew really makes costumers feel the need to come back, because I'd honestly want to come back in a couple weeks before the snow is gone & I'd definitely go back to Getboards. Originally didn't plan to snowboard again, tagged along w my brother to pick up his rentals, but once I entered that shop... I couldn't resist to rent out too. Get Boards gave awesome customer service. I made a reservation online ahead of time as they suggest that. It was pretty easy. Their pricing was decent too. I looked around at other companies as there's boat/kayaking rentals all over town, but this one had the best reviews and best prices in my opinion. They get busy & its recommended to show up 15 min early to sign waivers. Parking is across the street next to a church & to the left of that is the dock. The instructors give you a *quick* explanation of what to do & you're on the water! It was my first time kayaking, but I got the hang of it pretty quick. Also, wear shorts & flip flops or go barefoot because you will get wet! **Also, highly recommend buying some sort of plastic pouch for your phone. Best staff ever! I just had my best day in 2020 since so many bad things happened this year. Here is the story: We traveled from LA and had a good time with my new Kayaking experience here. (Masks on!) I dropped my iPhone 11 in the lake (Yep, I'm that dumb) when we return the kayak at the marina today and I thought I probably lost it forever. Austin and Devin got into the water immediately and they found the phone under the water in like 5 minutes. It works perfectly. (Thank you Apple) I can't appreciate those boys enough. This means a lot to me. They are super nice and friendly and didn't hesitate even one second to offer help. I should have tipped but I didn't bring my wallet with me. God bless them. The girls in the office/store were nice and the younger guys down by the lake were really nice. But the older guys down by the lake were really quite rude. We really were not greeted at all and they were not friendly at all. I got stuck out in the rain and when I got back to the dock they seemed to be annoyed that it took me awhile to get back! My boyfriend tried to help me get in the corner because I was so cold, and he seemed annoyed that he had to move. Very disappointed. But I had a great time paddling on the lake. read more

We called in and inquired about their availability for 2 single kayak rentals - which wasn't until 4pm but we called around 2pm. Definitely call ahead to make a reservation if you have a larger party or a specific time you want to go out. Super easy process. Went into the main shop, paid and signed agreements. Went across the street to the shoreline- parked there and then walked out to the dock. We handed them our receipt and they set us up with life jackets and instructions and then got us on our kayaks. We paid $35 for 2 hours for a single person kayak. Great deal in my opinion. 2 hours is plentyyyy of time to kayak and we used up the entire time. Wear a hat and sunscreen. It gets hot under the sun. We wore regular clothes but your legs and butt get wet from splashing of the paddles and the waves. Also- I recommend a waterproof phone case so you aren't worried and can take photos. Staff was nice and helpful. Family friendly. Saw lots of people with kids and dogs on kayaks and paddle boards. read more

While staying in Big Bear, my wife and I decided to rent a kayak and explore the lake. We contacted Get Boards since we saw a Groupon for them. We ordered a double kayak for ourselves and then proceeded down to Get Boards. We arrived with our Groupon and got registered. The staff was nice enough to accept the Groupon as they normally don't take them the same day you sign up for it. You would have to wait 24 hours. But, the season was at a close and they were not busy. We were offered extra options to keep our keys and camera dry but we had come prepared for this. We then walked down to the water to pick up our kayak. We were outfitted with life jackets and given safety instructions about being on the lake. We then grabbed our double kayak for four hours of wonderful kayaking on Big Bear Lake. We have never kayaked here before, only in the ocean so the advice provided by the staff was very helpful about navigating the lake. Almost four hours later we returned out kayak and proceed off to our cabin to shower and change for dinner. The lake views were great and we had a great time. Yes, four hours was a lot of time but we needed the exercise. I do recommend Get Boards for your kayak rentals and I know we will be coming back. read more

When I arrived, there was a few people in line checking in for their reservation etc. The check in was super easy and the attendant was super friendly and helpful. She gave me instruction on where to go and pick up the boards. Its right across the street, super close, lots of free parking. Went and parked then walked down to the dock to pick up board. The staff there is super awesome, happy and helpful. They explained how everything works got me set up with a life vest then paddle board and off I went. It was a beautiful day to be out on the lake.
