Review #840 2025-012 I was rear ended in 11/2024 before Thanksgiving & went to P/T when my therapist suggested acupuncture &/or massage therapy to advance my recovery: right shoulder, neck, & back. I tried massage once more than a decade ago, but I have personal space issues besides being very ticklish. I searched awhile trying to find the "right" type of massage therapy, & came upon Gettys Muscle Therapy. I wasn't able speak with Lyssa because she's an independent contractor at Amie House, but she did reply by text with enough info that I felt comfortable to schedule an appointment 1-month out. She's busy either because of her limited schedule: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (M, T, Th), 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM (W, F) or she's THAT good. Established in 2010, Lyssa is a board-certified CA massage therapist providing therapy for rehabilitative care (not like the spa-associated massages?) at Amie House, a reimagined holistic center of independent wellness professionals. The 1st appointment is 90-mins.: 30 for pre/post assessment based on your intake/application form + 60 for massage. A detailed intake form ensures a full massage session, other it'll be shorten to clarify your needs/goals; thereafter, sessions are 30, 60, 90 mins. with Pay Later option of 4 installments (not sure if there's surcharges for this payment plan). Lyssa is thorough with asking questions that will assist her in your treatment, & discusses post-treatment observations & changes between appointments to guide her approach for a more impactful session. She's methodical in working on & around the tender areas, stretching & maneuvering for better range/flexibility. Her technique is different from another masseuse who uses more & constant pressure. At Gettys Muscle Therapy, treatment shouldn't be "no pain, no gain" instead it's detailed pressure with some discomfort of a "good sore." Followed by consistent homework on post assessment tips to maintain the progress made. Due to the cold weather, any minute progress made with PT & massage therapy is 1-step forward, 10-steps back; now weather is slightly warmer, & have increased the PT intensity & additional HW (from 1 set daily to 3 sets) & infrequent massage therapy, I've regained a lot of mobility & working on the back & building strength. On my 2nd session, Lyssa suggested I come in earlier to supplement with Dry Float Therapy, aka Zero Gravity Therapy. It's meant to be a relaxing experience that simulates weightlessness without getting wet. It involves lying on a special floatation bed that uses a dry membrane & is designed to minimize outside senses & feelings to help relieve stress & physical pain. However, this wasn't for me... triggering claustrophobia, anxiety, & nausea that remained with me for the whole day into the next day. I was barely in the bed (less than a min.?)... lying flat, which I'm incapable of doing (need to be raised a few degrees upward), & it felt tight like you're in a coffin but more snug. After getting my bearings, my massage wasn't therapeutic with my focus on breathing through the normally tolerable discomfort & trying not to get sick on the bed. This complementary add-on is $35 at a 30% discount for 30-mins. & $80 regular price for 60-mins. I'm not consistent with her post assessment tips (HW), but these complementary massage sessions along with PT has helped in my recovery. If you're looking for clinical massage therapy, look no further than Gettys Muscle Therapy. Keep in mind that it's challenging to secure short-term appointments because she is THAT good. read more

I feel very fortunate to have found her through Yelp, and have been going several months now. I always feel better after leaving, her skill and attention to detail and ability to ascertain my problem areas are second to none. The timing of my first and only so far (there will be more!) appointment with Lyssa was serendipitous. I think I had her last appointment before everything got shut down due to #itscoronatime. It couldn't have come at a better time, having aches and pains from prior injuries and stiffness from having a desk job, to being shut in the house and working (very fortunately) from home which would've totally exacerbated my pain. I have been dealing with pain and discomfort from degenerative disc disease, costochondritis, being sedentary, age, stress, etc. I've been to other massage "sport" therapists, physical therapy, orthopedics, chiro, acupuncture, had a PRP injection, stretching, yoga, pain gels.... the list goes on. My massage with Lyssa wasn't like any other massage I've had, I used to have a "no pain no gain" mentality, and while the massage wasn't a walk in the park, I definitely was not in pain but more importantly Lyssa educated me that getting a healing and beneficial massage doesn't require pain. I felt very comfortable with Lyssa throughout and it was abundantly clear to me that she goes through great lengths to ensure her clients get the best treatment from her - starting with the comprehensive intake form, to her commitment to communication during the session (communication isn't just verbal! body language, grunts, every reaction is how we communicate) and being in-tune with my reaction and adjusting, her facility, the playlist (! this stuff matters, when you've had been through the whole massage bit, "spa" sounds gets real old), the business blog, the informative and *common-sense* newsletters.. And the actual massage itself - Lyssa truly has a healing touch and she genuinely cares, this comes through in her massage. Also she massaged under my shoulder blades and as intense as it was, I've never felt such relief in my upper back - no one has ever massaged under my shoulder blades! It was really the best session and meeting I could've hoped for before these strange times started. Lastly, I really appreciate that the treatment didn't end with just the physical session. She continued to communicate with me via email even after the session and followed up with product recommendations and home exercise/dynamic stretching that I should do. The home exercise platform recommendation, Essentrics, alone was worth meeting with Lyssa. This has been a godsend during shelter-in-place - I have never had physical movement have such fast and lasting benefits! TL;DR - Lyssa is the real deal. Start Essentrics now. Ps. Lyssa is a wizard. I've been to a lot of massage places, but this is the only one that I would say actually helps with my aches and pains. I have chronic back pain and I'm always pulling something or other from weights or boxing or something stupid like sitting too long. Lyssa is not a 'one massage routine fits all' like a lot of other massage places are. She talks to you and finds out your lifestyle, where your pain points are, etc. Then she goes to work and does her magic. Generally, when I get a massage (even massages at other sports/ortho/chiro places) and tell them where I have pain, they never seem to hit the exact point, but just in that general area. Lyssa will definitely find the exact point(s) of tension and work on them. She will even find related areas and work on those as well even if you didn't mention them. I remember once I had hurt my shoulder, but it was feeling better so I only told her about my pack pain. But after the session, she mentioned she had found some issues with my shoulder as well and worked them out. Magic, I say. MAGIC. I try to go here once a month but since COVID (which she takes very seriously), she books up even more quickly than normal. Lastly, she is also so nice and has perfect tableside manner. She is very attentive to any concerns and is so friendly. But she is also aware if you want to just be quiet during a session and won't make any small talk if you are not into that. Lyssa is great! Usually when i go to a spa for a massage, I ask to focus on specific areas, yet I always seem to get the same full body massage. Not Lyssa! Lyssa is truly amazing! I have severe scoliosis so need to see at the very minimum a deep tissue masseuse about once a month, but Lyssa is WAY better. The first meeting is a consultation where you talk with her about your pain and overall general health. She works with you on what type of relief you're looking for, or if you would like her to use different techniques and customizes her treatments. She is very technical and precise on working on your muscles that need tension relief. I always leave her sessions feeling like I've spent a whole weekend at the spa! (I choose 90 min sessions). I've seen quite a few massage therapists in my day, and Lyssa is by far the kindest, friendliest, and most knowledgable that I have ever been to. I've been receiving massages on a monthly basis for almost nine months now, and I've really noticed a difference in my back and neck pain. Lyssa always takes the time to really figure out what's going on and what I need each session before she starts. During the massage, she's communicative and receptive to feedback on pressure. After the session, Lyssa spends as much time as necessary going over what she felt and what's going on in my body, providing detailed suggestions on how to treat symptoms in between visits. Since much of what we've worked on was the result of a car accident, Lyssa has provided timely documentation and detailed reports to help me with my case. She also put together specialized billing documents and has graciously offered to help me with anything else I might need. I know that the pain following my accident would have been much worse if I hadn't had her helping me with it. Her combination of myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and deep tissue has been exactly what I need for the tightness, spasms, and pain. The office itself is very clean, cozy, and comfortable. Lyssa has put a great amount of effort into decorating the space, and it shows. The serene and calming atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. Where do I begin... Lyssa was referred to me by a coworker who has been coming to her for years. Unfortunately, I encountered a sports injury (trapezius/neck area) while lifting weights. I hesitated to go to her first because I wasn't sure who was the appropriate person to see. As I spoke to Lyssa for the first time, I felt comfortable and at ease instantly. She was very knowledgeable in the skeletal and muscular system and explained what she thought may be the problem (from what I explained). At the end, I scheduled an appointment. Today is actually 24 hours later and boiii do I feel sore. Lets back up a bit. As I went in for my appointment, it's like we've known each other forever; very welcoming and soothing! FINALLY! My search for relief is over after 20+ years! YESSS!!! For those of you like me looking for expert therapeutic treatment (and not just another routine spa massage), look no further. Lyssa is the real deal. She's got serious skills. Now I realize I simply wasted my money on the many others I tried before her... man I really wish I found her 20 years ago! Today was my first appointment. It was everything I hoped for, and then some. After reading the unanimous 5 star Yelp reviews, I went in with some optimism, but I was still saddled down by a healthy dose of skepticism (after all, I've been trying various treatments in seeking relief for over 20 years, but to no avail). "Ok she might be good, but no one can fix ME though..." I thought to myself while walking into her studio. Boy, was I wrong. She is all about expert precision and technique, rather than brute force. No one else has ever executed what I sensed were softer but perfectly placed presses on my sore spots that could relieve so much tension like Lyssa did today. After treatment, I left amazed, and feeling so much better than I can remember in such a long, long time...like decades. As I left, I was scanning my calendar to see how soon I could schedule another appointment. She hit all my trouble spots without me having to tell her where they all were, AND she hit several others that I didn't even realize I had! Plus she didn't waste any time by hitting areas that didn't need treatment. Lyssa must have a natural gift which enables her to pinpoint exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) where to press, knead, and hold. Each time she progressed to another trouble spot, it was uncanny how she would zero in on the exact spot on the very FIRST try, like she had x-ray vision that lets her see the knots and trigger points under my skin. No fumbling around, no time wasted. Pure therapy. Amazing. She understands the human body better than anyone else I've tried. But this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as she is extremely bright, well educated and trained, dedicated and enthusiastic about her craft, and it shows in her work, results, and bedside manner. This is long overdue...I don't know where to start...Lyssa is one of the best, if not the best massage therapist I have ever been to. It's not just a job to her, but like a mission in her life to heal as many people as she can. I started seeing Lyssa a couple of years ago, as I kept looking for pain relief from my injuries to my neck and back. Being on narcotics and muscle relaxers for over 10 years, was not the answer. Lyssa is a god sent gift to all of us suffering from various injuries. She is caring and continues to search for new methods to heal us. Because of a broken neck when I was in my early 20s, I have severe, persistent pain as the result of the soft-tissue damage and scarring from that injury. As I approach 50, without a very strong, very knowledgeable LMT, I can only manage the pain in my back through lidocaine patches, ulcerative quantities of NSAIDs and sleep-inducing quantities of muscle relaxants. However, Lyssa has helped me say goodbye to all that. Her thorough knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system and the various massage techniques, particularly neuromuscular, combine for a truly therapeutic experience. There are things that I just can't do unless I'm getting regular massages from Lyssa: I get decreased overall back pain, less knots and tender points, greater range of motion, and and overall increased sense of well being. Plus she's smart, funny, and fun to talk to, which makes what can be the sometimes difficult bits (working through knot bellies) much more enjoyable. I have been seeing Lyssa for about 4 months now, and my low back has never felt better. As an RN who works on my feet for 12 hours at a time, running around, bending, lifting patients, etc., needless to say my back suffers. I have been dealing with low back pain and flair ups on and off for years and am always cautious with my movements. She has worked wonders for my back and always provides further tips and instruction for the best possible maintenance. Her technique is like no other. Neuromuscular massage is really the best! From the moment you first meet Lyssa she makes you feel super comfortable. She is very knowledgeable about the body and its neuromuscular anatomy, which I love since I'm a nurse. What I love even more is her homeopathic approach to healing the body. Rather than something like pain medication, she recommended turmeric tea and a warm bath to fight inflammation.
