06/03/26 - My Ta Shih/Grandmaster & I were hungry after class. I was giving him a ride back to the train station as his car is currently in the shop & we decided to grab a bite to eat. We went to GG's Chicken Shop on Southport next door to Little Goat Diner (one of Stephanie Izards restaurants). Neither of us had eaten @ GG's Chicken Shop. When we asked for a recommendation the guy working the counter asked if we had eaten there before. Neither of us had & he suggested the Original Fried Chicken sandwich which was delicious. This sandwich had a nice crispy plump fried chicken breast w/pickles, shredded cabbage, hot honey & spicy mayo on a bun. This was a delicious blend of the fried chicken w/the crunch of the cabbage & pickle & the hot honey & spicy mayo. This was an excellent choice that we both enjoyed the sandwich. GG's was good, but I thought the chicken wrap was a little overhyped. I'm not sure if I went on an off day but I thought the wrap was very dry and lacked sauce. I asked for an extra side of sauce to dip it in & that helped significantly. We did LOVE all the sides. The mac & cheese was soooo good (and I am hard to impress when it comes to mac & cheese. It tasted way better than it looks). The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy & not soggy at all. The fries were seasoned great and were sooo good dipped in the ranch. Even though the wrap was disappointing, I would still go back and try their chicken sandwich instead or one of their salads! read more

Had my hopes set high for this one.. either it was an off day or just not that good. First off, the price is absurd: $21.50 for a fried chicken sandwich & waffle fries? Secondly, the chicken itself is that stringy crappy chicken and at about a 60-40% meat to breading ratio & had absolutely no flavor. Tried their new viral chicken caesar wrap and it was delicious! It was interesting because they make theirs with kale - just a fair warning if you don't like kale. Definitely tasted healthier. Kathryn with brown hair and pony tail on 7/25 at 8pm was unwilling to take a sandwich and prepare it as a wrap, yet she had no problem charging extra for a Caesar wrap that was essentially the same modification. The inconsistency made no sense. What was even more disappointing was how my family members, who do not speak English, were treated. Kathryn was impatient and rude while they were trying to understand the menu, making what should have been a pleasant family outing feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Stopped by GG's Chicken Shop on a Sunday afternoon while shopping around Southport after seeing it all over social media especially for the chicken Caesar wrap that's been getting a ton of hype lately. There was a bit of a line when I arrived, but it moved fast. I waited about 10-15 minutes to order, and once I did, my food came out in under 5 minutes. So all in, I was in and out in about 20 minutes, not bad at all for a busy Sunday. I ordered everything to-go, but the inside space had a great vibe. It was packed, but there was indoor seating available and a bit more room outside. The staff was friendly and helpful despite the rush. I got: - Chicken Caesar wrap (with rotisserie chicken) - Half rotisserie chicken with a side of their ranch - Waffle fries Total came out to around $40, which felt a little pricey at first but honestly, I stretched it into two meals. For $20 per meal with quality ingredients, it felt pretty fair. The Caesar wrap was super solid. I wouldn't call it the best I've ever had, but it definitely lives up to the hype. Fresh, flavorful, and made with kale and pickled onions (which I loved) which gave it a slightly healthier and unique twist. Everything was mixed well, and it paired perfectly with the waffle fries, which were crispy and seasoned just right. Later that night I had the rotisserie chicken and it might've been even better than the wrap. Yum, I wish this place was on the West side near us! Dropped by while shopping for a late lunch. I got the chicken Caesar wrap with rotisserie chicken. Loved the crunch and it was huge with a lot of chicken. My only complaint was it was a tad dry so next time I'd get a sauce too. My husband got half a chicken with waffle fries. Ordered for carryout; I got the 1/4 chicken meal (white meat upcharge; next time I may just order half a chicken) with mashed potatoes for the side and chimichurri as the sauce. I also split an order of crispy brussels with my partner. It was quick, delicious, and I would 100% order the chicken again. It was flavorful and juicy -- possibly one of the best rotisseries I have had. The mashed potatoes were also tasty; a little on the softer/runnier side texture-wise compared to what I like but the flavor was rich and paired well with the chicken and brussels. The brussels were nothing special, but they were still tasty and I will never complain about a nice crispy brussel sprout. The 'chili lime' salt really just tasted like salt, more emphasis on the chili lime part would make these stand out more in my opinion. Truly my only complaint is that the bread roll frankly ruined what would've been a nearly perfect meal. Why add such a dry, tasteless, generic, clearly-from-a-restaurant-supply-company product when everything else on the menu felt more premium? Especially at this price point. I'm sure the bread is just an afterthought/space filler, but a nicer roll could've really tied it all together a lot better instead of feeling random and out of place. To drink he had a frozen strawberry lemonade, which was too sweet for both of us. I had the quarter rotisserie chicken, which was juicy and tender but also quite salty. My favorite part of the meal may have been the mashed potatoes made with rotisserie chicken drippings: so flavorful! Ordering was super quick and simple, i was bummed i missed out on their dipping sauces but maybe next time. The staff although extremely busy during lunch, were very friendly and fast. The food is amazing - The grain bowl and salad with fried chicken added are some of my favorite comfort foods in Lakeview. However, I need them to be better so I can actually enjoy these dishes. ~75% of the time, my order is wrong. They usually add rotisserie chicken or no chicken to my bowls with fried chicken. They also mix up the sides somewhat often. Ironically worse, though, is their "order checking" process. Today for example, our order was already 10 minutes past the promised time. It was delivered to the order station, but we watched the employees discuss hiring decisions instead of "check" it right away so we could take it. Once they finally did, we went home and found the sandwich was wrong (spicy, not regular). They refunded it and are always reasonable in that regard, but it's not helpful with allergies, for example, when items are incorrectly labeled and put in our order/not caught at the final order check. We love the food, but are pretty done with lack of trust for take out as it's been over a year of this. Would return when I can eat in and get the real-time order corrections often needed! read more

When I first heard about this place it was super trendy and that, admittedly, kept me away for while. I'm always a bit suspicious of places that seem to have too much internet or social buzz. However, the other day I was in the Southport Corridor running some errands, and I got a bit hungry. I ordered the ranch fried chicken. If you want to get it spicy you can, but I elected for just sandwich because I wanted to get the taste of their batter and chicken. It was a nice sized sandwich, worth the price of admission. The breading was crunchy, perfectly golden brown and seasoned well. The chicken piece was large, juicy and tender. This sandwich is lit. Second, the interior and ambiance is fun and playful. The restaurant is has lot of bright natural light and the decor and color scheme is bright, bold and fun. It made the experience of eating there all the better. Third, the service was excellent. Ordering at the counter was easy and staff were very friendly. My food came out quickly and was hot a fresh. GG's to the rescue! I was feeling terrible this morning and my husband found GG's rotisserie chicken soup when looking for a place that would deliver it. It was one of the best chicken soups I've ever had in my life, including homemade ones. In fact, this one was most likely homemade, not only because of the quality of the shredded chicken, the perfectly cooked vegetables and rice, and the abundance of fresh dill, but also the broth. I only ate half to start, and when I took the leftovers out of the fridge for dinner tonight, the soup was a bit solid, making me suspect they either make their own stock or buy a high quality one. In any case, it was just what the doctor ordered. He also got me some sides, the Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. The sprouts were also outstanding, and the seasoning on them gave them a great tang. The mashed potatoes were a little too rich for me, but otherwise creamy and nice. I'd get GG's soup and Brussels sprouts again in a heartbeat, and based on reviews here I hope to make it for dine in sometime. read more

I've never had GG's dine in. Most of my orders have been delivery, and I only picked up once because I was in the area. I have to say, they have the best rotisserie chicken! I'm not a big fan of fried chicken, so this is a great place for those who want something different. The chicken is really good quality, and they have a lot of different options depending on how hungry you are. They also have a variety of sides and sauces to choose from. I usually go for their ranch sauce, and for sides, you can't go wrong with anything. But I love the crispy Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. The place was full as well with both dining in customers as well as takeout. I ordered their Whole Chicken. It came with three sides, two sauces and four dinner rolls. All for $37. A really good deal to feed a family of four. The chicken was perfectly good and had great seasoning. The chicken was tender and juicy. The dinner rolls were good, the smashed potatoes were really delicious as was their mac & cheese. We also ordered waffle fries and they were pretty good as well. I also got garlic ranch and chimichurri for sauces but they honestly didn't go that well with the chicken or any of the sides. Probably one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Yes, it's expensive. But you get a hefty sandwich and for $15, it's worth it.
