For atmosphere - I give this place a 5. The concept behind Ghost Pepper is great. However, the service is incredibly slow and disorganized. It took about 20-30 minutes just to get our drinks. When we finally did, the waitress apologized but cited the long wait was that the kitchen was overwhelmed and asked her to stop putting in food orders for a while as the group next to us ordered "too much." We were only 1 of 5 parties being served. Overall, I had high hopes for this place which were nowhere near met. I am hoping it's just a matter of this place being new and still getting themselves together because, once they do, this place has the potential to be fantastic. On the flip side, the bartender we interacted with while waiting for our table was superb, talented, and professional - he literally offers everyone a handshake! The food and service was great! Too bad I went deaf from the management refusing to turn off the sound system when it went haywire and blared a super high-pitched ringing noise for minutes. The only draw back is you have to make reservations and then when you get their they squeeze you in where ever they have seats. Automatically cancelled reservation for 9 people and up charged for items that we ordered. Food was not awful but service was underwhelming.

New restaurant, but needs a lot of work. Ghost Pepper has a great vibe and is definitely a cool spot to go to for drinks after work or a long day. However, the food was subpar. After being seated, it took us over an hour to be greeted by our waitress and put our order in for drinks. We ordered a few cocktails -- the Peruvian melon and the Cuban Kitty -- which were tasty. When our tacos came out, all of the tortillas were soggy and tacos were cold. You couldn't eat them properly and couldn't even eat the tortilla. It was pretty clear the tortillas were store bought and the tacos were cold -- the waitress even admitted that they were sitting out for too long (talk about food borne illness!). The carnitas and carne asada tacos, for example, were both quite bland. Aside from the food, there was also limited staff available at the restaurant, and as a result, many people seated next to us were less than thrilled and some even left. I hope this restaurant takes feedback from its customers seriously and implements changes soon. Ghost Pepper has a lot of potential, but should specifically focus on developing the following: 1. Hire more waitstaff ASAP. Since it's owned by the same restaurant next door, they should bring some of those waiters over when SBK isn't busy. The one waitress we had was rude and didn't even ask about how our meals were. 2. Make more items from scratch. Most of the best spots in town make their own corn and flour tortillas from scratch, they would improve so much just by making these in house! 3. Focus on flavor. As mentioned above, if you're going to make a classic carne asada or carnitas taco, add more spice and get a proper sear on the meat -- the meat on both tacos were grey. Maybe even dress it up with more than just raw onion. Simple steps to making a great taco. Ghost pepper has a lot of potential, but they face a lot of competition in the neighborhood and greater Boston. I'll start with the service ...Absolutely exceptional ! Nyell, our server, went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. The food was good; flavorful but not over seasoned . However it was slightly over priced and under portioned compared their competitor (Yellow Door). The menu also had a good variety of options. Overall would be back. My second time visiting Ghost Pepper and I'll be back for a third time. Aside from the fact that I visited on a Friday and it was packed everything else was beyond expectation. We were able to grab a seat at the bar and service was no different than table side. The bartender was very attentive even though she had to cater to a full Audience. Food came out very quickly we ordered a shrimp, octopus, and fish taco which were all good surprisingly the octopus was the best one. And also ordered the steak and rice plate with empanadas (empanadas had run out but the manager was kind enough to offer us a replacement item on the house). Everything was delicious and arrived quickly. I love going to places where the first time you go you say you'll be back and the second time you go it becomes one of your favorite places. Ghost pepper though it's new is definitely one of my favorite places and it only took 2 visits. I recommend you go if you like good food and don't mind a little bit of a crowd and a lively atmosphere. It's a great place to grab a bite and a drink and prices are fair. We wanted to love Ghost Pepper Taco + Tequila Bar but it didn't do it for us! Pros- Love the decor of the restaurant and bar... doesn't feel like you are in Dorchester, that's for sure! House margarita was good! Cons- We sat at the bar and the bartender assigned to our side of the bar did not even acknowledge our presence, she threw menu's at us and 8-10 minutes later we were still waiting get serviced. She did however spend a long time chatting with the guys sitting next to us and acknowledged some other groups that came in, not sure what the deal was with that. The bartender working the service bar happen to come to our side of the bar, asked if we were being taken care of and graciously took our drink order. We were starving and wanted to order food, however NO ONE had food in from of them, literally no one at the restaurant or bar had food, this was a red flag for us. Regardless of this we checked out the menu and although some good options we had a few questions on the menu and waved down the bartender, who never even said hi btw! She wasn't friendly nor very helpful with answering our questions, so we opted to just finish our delicious margs and have dinner elsewhere. read more

Live in the neighborhood and was excited for this new addition. Pros-food comes out very quick and is quite good. Tacos are tasty and there is a great drink list. Cons-the service leaves much to be desired. There were three other people at the bar when I was there and took 15min before the staff asked if I wanted anything to eat. They had plenty of staff but they just seemed preoccupied talking to each other. The food is tapas style meaning that each plate comes out as it's ready, which is fine, but no one told us that when we sat down which would have been nice to know prior to ordering. Also...they have a video projector that show movies on the back wall. Why do they need to show me YouTube clips of cats doing dumb things and random videos of scenery? Put something on the wall that fits with the theme or brand they are trying to project. Overall I will go back and I hope the owners read these reviews and make some changes. We had fast and friendly service -- like we ordered, and within minutes we'd get our food (we ordered as we went). Tbh I wasn't expecting much for the food but it was tasty! Empanadas, pupusas (that night special of duck confit w cheese-- so good) carnitas tacos, chips & salsa were all good. Portions are smaller and it is a little pricey but there's a good amount of meat on the tacos. Pulpo taco and 3 leches were both just ok to me. I would recommend for anyone in the area. read more

Food was mediocre; drinks were expensive, light on tequila heavy on ice and sour mix. As a party of six with two kids, were seated at a couch and chairs around small tables. The restaurant seems to have decided it won't be offering high chairs so this configuration was our only option and far from ideal. To open in a neighborhood, thriving with families, and actively discourage families with kids is so odd. Also, if kids are in high chairs they are far less disruptive. Instead, I was trying to keep guacamole off the new furniture and chase a running toddler. Overall a disappointing experience; which may have been their goal in hoping I don't return with a kid. read more

When you come here you have to try the Crystal Leche! I was a little unsure because the drink contained milk. But Rudy broke down the process of the drink and I was convinced I had to try it! Tonight was my first time going to Ghost Pepper and I was nothing short of impressed! Great, friendly faces as soon as you walk in. Decor was perfect and felt spacious. But the food was amazing. Great pescatarian options which I really appreciate. I had the shrimp taco, fried cod taco and the califlower taco. I couldn't even choose my favorite because they were all so delicious and flavorful. Also the chips and guac were awesome. I highly recommend GP over Loco or any other taqueria!! I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt because they just opened, but overall pretty good new restaurant. As others have mentioned, the tortillas were weak and the type of corn tortilla that rips easily. I had the braised carnitas taco, and it was juicy with a lot of liquid and the tortilla didn't stand a chance. The taco was basically just meat in a tortilla. For the quality of the taco, they should be $1 less each. They are charging loco / lolita type prices and their tacos are substantially worse. I was disappointed with the guac. No option for spicy and it tasted like avocado tomato and onion with nothing else. I would've loved jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, more salt. It was super bland. Many of the menu items were also unavailable, including street corn, and all of the fish entrees. I'm kind of chalking that up to the place being new. The service was good and I liked the atmosphere and the house marg was decent albeit weak. I would give it 3.5 stars but I want them to stay in the neighborhood so 4 stars read more

Went here on Cinco de Mayo so this definitely contributed to some of the craziness but overall our experience was AWFUL. We had a reservation but still had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table to open up...but the worst part was our horrible waitress-she was rude, flighty, dismissive and almost completely absent. She got at least 5 things wrong or never even brought them, and would barely listen when we ordered or cut us off. She got my drink order wrong, got pissy and blamed it on me then left it on the bill. Next round, I didn't get my drink at all. One person in my group of 6 didn't even get his entrée and she took so long to check on us, we had all finished eating and he gave up trying to get it re-ordered. We were constantly waiting around for her to come over to our table so we could order food or another round of drinks-so much so that we had to track her down, more than once, only to find her chit chatting with friends at a nearby table. We wanted to eat and get a good buzz but we ended up only getting a chance to order 2 rounds of drinks over the course of 2 1/2 hours-could have been in and out in 1. I get that it was a busy night but the restaurant is not that big and our waitress was clearly not putting in any effort to be attentive. read more

I have several-food allergies and I think within a nanosecond of the bartender putting our order in the chef came out introduced himself and discussed my allergies. I was so excited to try this place in my neighborhood. Me and my friend walked in around 630pm on a Saturday and asked for a table for 2. Our hostess (in red) told us there was no a availability however she would add us to the list. She then went out of her way to find us seating at the bar. Afterwards, she approached us and offered us a table. Not only were the drinks, food and bartenders awesome the front door staff was so accommodating. I love this place and can't wait to go back!!
