Stopped in on a rainy Thursday afternoon. It was empty, so we sat instantly. We ordered nachos with buffalo chicken and guacamole, elote dip, and margaritas to start. All were outrageously good. The table ordered various tacos, a taco salad, and a chicken Crunchwrap. All again were amazing. Best among the taco selections were coconut shrimp and pork belly tacos. Pretty huge indoors with limited but cute outdoor booths. Our waiter was super attentive and quick. I got the strawberry marg which was very strong and my boyfriend got the down to fiesta which he gave good reviews to. Our guacamole app was a very generous amount and their chips are incredible... crispy and spiced. We both got the crunch wrap for dinner and it was so filling and so delicious- I do wish the dipping sauce was queso or guacamole instead of what I think was ranch. Pretty unauthentic Mexican food. Honestly, they should be embarrassed calling this a taco bar. Maybe your grandma from Iowa's taco bar, but not by most people's standards. The tortillas were really awful, and I'm willing to bet money they bought the Mission corn tortillas from Stop and Shop for service. Sad sad excuse for a tortilla. We got carry out so I can't speak to the drinks or the general vibe, but it seemed extremely loud in there. We started with the queso dip which was fabulous; rich & creamy with thin but sturdy chips that tasted homemade. For my entree, I ordered 3 tacos: birria, drunken fish and cauliflower. The fish taco had a delicious sauce on it, the birria taco was fried and came with a delicious dipping sauce on the side and the cauliflower was so flavorful that I would have never guessed it was cauliflower. Chubbs is a lively spot for catching a bite with friends or watching the game. It's a bar-like, casual atmosphere with lots of TVs and a decent sized menu of drinks and Mexican food. We ordered the guacamole, grilled wings, and a burrito to share. The guac was well seasoned and decent portioned. The grilled wings were okay - my wife insisted on getting them but I wouldn't say they were anything special. The burrito was tasty and large - it was toasted on the outside too which added a nice texture. The chips were also great and seemed freshly made in house. You're definitely not getting authentic Mexican food here but it's a step up from your typical bar food. I went with the non-alcohol free spirit as my drink. Refreshing but a bit too sweet for me. My wife enjoyed her margarita though. Not much street parking available so you may need to circle a few times or park a little further out. Went on a Tuesday night with a reservation. It was not packed. Large space with multiple TVs for one's viewing pleasure. Started with drinks and explored their mocktail options. The like a virgin was a great play on a spicy jalapeño margarita! Had a strong kick and mellowed out with some mixing. I'd go back for more. Starters: Nice simple selection. I wasn't too hungry so we started with the elote (Mexican street corn on the cob), which was well seasoned and had great flavors. The corn was a little harder and I personally thought it could have cooked a tad bit longer. I prefer when off the cob, less gets stuck in the teeth. Tacos: Just a note, heavy on meat options and limited seafood, especially that's not fried or battered. I did make the request for the drunken fish just grilled and it was accepted so applaud the chef! All mine were delicious. Flavors, salsas, sauces and even the corn tortillas. Dessert: Wrapped with the churros. I've had better and for this to be the only dessert, I wanted more. 3/4 stars. The service was slow, maybe because it was a slow night. This place really feels like a 3.5 star establishment, but alas I ended up rounding down. Chubb's is much more American than Mexican. The decor is just like a cute trendy cafe and only pop music playing. We tried three different types of tacos and all were full of meat (which was nice) but lacking spice or flavor. However, a redeeming quality was their nachos (added carnitas and guac )- the chips tasted freshly fried and there was a great ratio of toppings to chips. It was a huge amount of food on that tray and it easily could've been the meal for 2-3 people alone. In general, the prices felt a bit high (which is fairly normal in Boston) at around 20 a plate. Definitely not the best taco place around but a decent choice for food nonetheless. read more

Excited to have something different in the neighborhood! As a Texan and someone who once lived in Mexico, I have diff standards for Mexican. Do I expect this to be the best Mexican I've ever had? No, BUT I was hoping it could be a place to satisfy my cravings. Queso - good but not amazing. There was a bit of a strong liqueur aftertaste. I'll give it another try! Tacos - gosh I really want to like these but the tortillas are tough and hard. As you can see in the photos, depending on what you get the portions of protein vary greatly. I was also really confused when I asked for salsa but got pico de gallo. Tuna tostadas - way too much sauce. Was hoping it would be light and refreshing but instead it was heavy. A lot of tuna though! Caesar - good but kinda pricey for what it was. I'll be back because it's close to home, service was good, and atmosphere was lively. I went for lunch with a friend, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the beef "crunch wrap," DELISH, and the Biria taco, which was also super solid. I had a virgin jalapeno pineapple-type drink (it was a workday) and enjoyed how fresh it tasted. We shared chips and guac as well. As a local to the area it's great to have a new restaurant near by! My husband and I came on a Friday evening and the place was slammed. It looks busy any time I drive by. The tacos were good, some better than others. I find it to be a little over priced to be honest. I went back a second time with friends and got the ahi tuna bowl which was tasty and spicy. We drive by this restaurant that seems packed all the time. We have been twice and the dish we like best is the crunch wrap. Ground beef, pepper jack cheese, lettuce and sauce. It's yummy.. They have a lovely list of tequilas & mezcals to choose from, too. I've lived in the SW and areas with a large Latino populations and I take my Mexican food seriously. The service & food were top notch and our food was fresh and not tasting like it came from a chain. When an establishment takes as much care with their tortilla chips as with their mains you know you're dealing with a legit place. The chips were fried fresh and sprinkled with a dusting of deliciousness. We tried their Caesar, and once again, it was fresh & delish. Their dressing tasted like it was a freshly made garlic aioli! I came here with a large party for a birthday and overall the food was very good! We got a few appetizers including the wings, elote and nachos. In my opinion the wings were exceptionally good. There were also some rave reviews about the nachos from my party. The steak fajita was also as good as it looked. As good as all of the tacos and dishes were, the star of the show was our server: William P. Even though a table with 9 adults and 2 kids would stress most people out, he showed so much grace and patience while serving us. It is their first week open so the fact that their staff is making mistakes is normal. It is obvious that the kitchen and the people putting in orders are not jibing well. The three tacos I had were good eight 8 out of 10. They advertise that they're 6-in tacos they're not. Three tacos a piece and a soda for the two of us for lunch was $70. Chubbs is one of the better Mexican food restaurants I've been to in Boston. The prices are reasonable and the food absolutely fantastic. The cheese on the nachos was amazing it was perfect, not like a dry shredded cheese this was more of a queso cheese that seemed to be never ending. The chips they had were up to the cheese challenge too, they were tasty and strong to hold up all the cheese and not get soggy under the amount of cheese. Really great atmosphere, I will defintely be back for the bar and the scene. But I am really looking forward to seeing some improvement with the food. Chips and salsa - Very skimpy serving, the Salsa verde was delicious, but the red and pico lacked any flavor at all. The Tijuana Cesar was the most disappointing.
