Review #1012 2026-082 Ghostrider (5: Aggressive Thrill) is west coast's longest, tallest, & fastest wooden roller coaster with a minimum 48" height requirement. The ride looms over Ghost Town & you can hear the screams when you arrive after the park opens... yeow!! It has one of the longest waits if you don't get on this 1st after entering; however, if you're willing to spend a few bucks, you can get a Fast Lane pass to bypass the regular line. The ride has a loose articles policy; such items are not allowed on the ride & must be stored before boarding. There's complimentary lockers that's free for the 1st 2 hours, then $2/hr. It doesn't help that the lockers are located just before the loading platform, & some riders decide last minute to store their hat, phone, etc. Grrr!! (｀0´)／ I love wooden roller coasters & GhostRider has been on my ride to-do ever since we had season passes; however, both kids were too young & too short to ride so I couldn't go on my own or with my husband because there's no one to watch them. What would be awesome if there's a Child Switch space near the boarding platform like Harry Potter & the Forbidden Journey at Universal Studios. It's probably took late to incorporate this now. I finally was able to take it on a spin when I chaperoned my daughter & her band mates a couple of years ago. Yippee!! The ride's backstory is a former Union Army soldier who moved to a CA mining town in pursuit of gold during gold rush, rode into the mine & was never seen again, though locals reported seeing a ghost riding a horse, hence its name. Ride Tidbits: Top Speed: 56 mph Length: 4,531' Elevation: 118' Duration: 160-secs. Construction: 2.5 million board feet of Southern yellow pine (wowza!) I love GhostRider... it's my other fav at Knott's! It's that wooden roller coaster shake, rattle, & roll feeling, particularly that initial drop! The initial half has a large camelback hills after the big drop & is loaded with sweeping turns, & the back half is jammed with intense, fast-paced snappy twists & turns, & "floater" airtime drops that you feel like you're gonna fall out! I would love to ride this coaster at night, but I can't tolerate the long line. I've decided Ghost Rider is my favorite roller coaster at Knotts with the classic wooden structure, and crazy fast turns and sudden drops. Today the line was an hour, first thing in the morning (the Knotts app updates super slowly, so whatever it says, add 30 minutes). At the beginning of the line, there's an area where you can pay $14 to mine for gold. Some tweens were doing so today and they looked cute because they were concentrating hard and seemed really into it! It's a long wait in line but as others have mentioned, it's worth it for the thrill of the ride AND the fact that the ride lasts longer than most other ones. Thrill factor 5 is right! Free lockers offered next to this spectacular rollercoaster so you don't have to worry about your stuff and can fully immerse yourself into the experience!! The lines are always long, but with good reason as it's a great coaster! This was my son's first time riding, and he came off wishing he could go again. For a wooden coaster it's honestly fairly smooth, and if you get the chance I'd really recommend riding it at night - the lines are typically a bit smaller and it's a fun experience. :) read more

Iconic coaster for the park as you can already see it from the front before you enter. There's a quaint charm with it being a wooden coaster as well. Before recently, the last time I was on GhostRider was in middle school and I can only remember it being jarring and rough, but I heard that they made some improvements to it in 2016, so none of that crazy jostling around. This was the last ride we got on in the park before we had to leave (this was around 9:30 PM) and we had the Fast Lane passes, so it took maybe around 15-20 minutes for us to be seated. I know the actual wait was easily over an hour. However, it was a great time! I have become so accustomed to Disney coasters that I almost went on this with my glasses on before the worker kindly reminded me to take them off and boy am I glad that I did. They would have flown off my face easily! The seats have individual "slots" for your butt, a seat belt, and a lap bar. It's obviously not the most intense ride at the park, but still is tiers higher than most Disney coaster (lol this is my only point of comparison). At night, you can't really see what's going on and the cold air adds an extra layer of thrill to it too. Solid coaster. read more

I usually don't care for this ride, one because it looks old and two, the line is always ridiculously long and it's on the other side of the park. I recently went and my friend wanted to wait in line so I decided to do this because every time we check at the end of the night it's a 90 minute wait. We went last Thursday night and it was an 80 minute wait at 9 p.m. By the time we got on the ride I was tired and it had been years since I'd been on it. I must be getting older because I don't remember it being that violently fast in the past. Also, I was yelling for it to stop because it was so fast on the turns and all the dips. Ten out of ten, definitely worth the wait and I feel like it's the longest roller coaster ride I've been on. read more

Terrifying roller coaster. I don't know why, but every time I go on this ride I think "why do people go on this?" It literally feels like the roller coaster is gonna break down. That's probably because it's made of wood. The wood creaks, and makes noises. It bends. The ride is jerky and extremely fast. The drops are big, and you will feel like you are falling to your death. It's really not fun for me anymore. This ride is just so scary lol I'm sure all the thrill seekers love it. But not me. I used to like this ride. This is a wooden roller coaster, I just went on ot for the 2nd time, this morning, during the Boysenberry Festival, after a 75 minute way. It's scary, but it's so fast, there's no time to react. (I'm so glad that I made it twice to the chiropractor, or else I wouldn't have been able to handle all of this. I hurt myself at work last week and was in so much pain.) It is a long ride and it was worth the wait. This is hubby's favorite ride. Our son loves it too. I was holding onto the bar. We came yesterday but the wait was very long. My friend and I were at Knott's this past Sunday. She loves extreme rides. I'm a baby in a grown up body so I go for the tamer and more gentler rides LOL. Ghostrider was the first ride we got in line for. Luckily, I inquired about the intensity of this ride before we got too deep into the line... it was a 2 hr wait YIKES! Sure enough it was one of the most extreme rides at Knott's per my friend's opinion. We exited the line immediately LOL. It was meant to be because we were exactly right near the emergency exit. We didn't have to say "excuse me" a thousand times LOL. Sorry my friend. I will rate neutal 3 since I didn't actually ride it. So you're probably seeing the line or have been warned about how bad the line for GhostRider gets. It can take up most of your day, it takes FOREVER. The ride gets so freaking busy it's crazy!!!!! So.... is it worth it???? YES!!!! HOLY CRAP YES!!!! THIS COASTER IS SO FREAKING AMAZING IT'S INSANE! Why? Well let's get into it! After boarding the trains, you then head into a small turnaround which is nice since it gives us a decent amount of speed before heading up the lifthill. This takes a while so you might as well enjoy the view. After the lifthill, you then travel down the first drop. This drop is fun since we build a TON of speed on top of having no jackhammering what so ever!. After that, we the head into a large ejector airtime hill hoping for some great airtime. Sadly, it's not crazy airtime like we expected, but we keep our speed so it somewhat makes up for it. We then ride up where there's a turnaround with some nice lateral Gs. You can also get a good view of the park from there. But don't enjoy it for too long because you're thrown down into the 3rd drop. We get a great ejector airtime moment before hitting a small banked turn which provides some GREAT laterals. You then rise up over the station through a less intense turnaround getting a great view of the park. Now, you would think that the ride would die down a bit by now. But NOPE! YOU'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN. IF YOU THOUGHT THE GREAT LATERALS WOULD DIE DOWN. YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!!!! YOU'VE ONLY SEEN THE APPETIZER OF WHAT THIS MONSTER OF A COASTER HAS TO OFFER! We then head down another drop where we get a STRONG airtime moment. And now... this is where GhostRider shows its true colors. We are then met with two turns that not only give some crazy laterals, but some decent airtime as well! We then rise up into another turnaround. This provides us with some more good laterals. And to make it cooler, it's all completely covered by the structure from the first turnaround. So yeah. AWESOME! We then hit two back to back airtime hills before hitting a POWERFUL helix which gives us some crazy laterals before rising into the brake run. Ladies and gentlemen, that was GhostRider. And man it was awesome! Ever since it got Re-tracked by Great Coasters International, it's been butter smooth and just plain awesome! Really the only downside to this ride is that the line can get REALLY bad for this thing. This gets the longest line in the park and the lines can grow stupidly long. I've seen this thing hit a 4-5 hour wait with the line going all the way to SIERRA SIDEWINDER. So be sure to hit this ride right as the park opens or right before it closes. Those are when the lines are the shortest. But yeah, even if you have to wait a long time. It's still worth it due to the sheer relentlessness and insane laterals you get on it as yeah.... GhostRider is a fantastic coaster and I highly recommend riding it when you go to Knott's. That line is NOT just the general public overreacting, that line is long for a REASON! GhostRider is one of the greatest roller coasters in the world. It really does not get better than this. Almost all coasters start off with a steep drop and gradually run out of steam towards the end. GhostRider seems to defy the laws of physics as its pacing remains relentless and even increases towards the end. The turns don't even really bank, so it feels the train will fly off the track (in a thrilling way.). I don't even feel dizzy riding this. I just want more and more. The only negative is that the line is always long, and the park's glacial operations don't seem to help. But GhostRider still gets 5* because the ride itself is just terrific. read more

This is honestly one of the best roller coasters around. We normally get in line for this ride as soon as we enter the park. The only reason I am not giving this ride 5 stars is because the line so often goes 2+ hours. No ride is worth waiting in line that long for. We have gone on this many, many times. It's my opinion is that the front of the train is a more comfortable riding experience. It's smoother and more enjoyable. But if you like it rough, ride in the way back. We have Knott's berry farm passes so we go a lot. We went the day before and my dad and I were the only people that went on the ride. We waited around 3 hours and 50 minutes. Ghost Rider is the last attraction that the Knott's family designed for the park it wasn't until Cedar Fair bought the park that the ride actually became a reality as they had the money to build it and boom out came the Ghost Rider seriously such a fun ride even more so at night so make sure you get your ride on as the line for this awesome coaster can get super long on busy days! WOOD WRAITH There's ghosts in them thar hills! Strap on some spurs and prepare yourself for a ride on the west coast's longest, fastest wooden roller coaster. It's a good one, cowpokes. California is home to an unbelievable EIGHTY steel coasters yet home to only SIX wooden coasters! Of this half dozen, GhostRider is the biggest and best by a wide margin. At 4,533ft in length, this magnificent specimen takes you on a thrilling 2 minute and 40 second journey that's loaded with airtime and luscious lateral G's. GCI (Great Coasters International) re-profiled the entire ride between September 2015 and June 2016, so I'm happy I got to experience the new & improved star attraction of the Ghost Town area (which just celebrated its 75th anniversary). The queue snakes past a gold mining attraction but most of the waiting takes place on the lower level of the station house, dressed up to look like a barn. Perhaps the most notable change from the re-profiling was the removal of the mid-course brake run, which was originally needed to slow down the trains so the ride wouldn't tear itself apart. This gives the trains a LOT more momentum going into the second half of the ride, which is somehow even more breathtaking than the first half. The other huge update was chucking the old PTC (Philadelphia Toboggan Company) trains and bringing in snazzy new Millennium Flyer trains. With these new dynamics, the train absolutely screams through curves and handles much, much better than the previous cars which were little more than boxes with wheels. The new trains are super comfy and keep your butt firmly in its place. GhostRider delivers during the day but right around dusk is when this sensational coaster shows its true colors. As the sun sets, orange rope lights illuminate the final brake run and chain lift......but nothing else. It's nothing but pitch black madness at night which REALLY heightens the overall intensity, especially when you're travelling 56mph and slamming into banked turns. I've been on scores of wooden coasters throughout the country and very few are better than GhostRider. This one's up there in the ranks with The Boss, The Beast, Shivering Timbers, and Hades 360°, to name a few. Allow me to shed some perspective on this ride--I waited a cool 90 minutes in line for the very back row, my longest wait of the day. After I exited, I thought "yup, that was definitely worth it." And even sitting here writing this, I still think it was. EASILY the best coaster at Knotts and one of the best in the country in its class (wooden, twister). Ghostrider, one of the older rides at Knott's Berry Farm that still has a lot to offer because at 118 feet, it is still the tallest wooded roller coaster and it actually last two minutes. The ride has two majestic climbs, followed by their great thrilling drops that lead into the rest of what the ride has to offer. The two drops are the best parts of the ride in my opinion. The wooden roller coaster is a bit bumpy and harsh on the turns, so if you have any existing medical issues, I would reconsider riding it. It is not as smooth at the Silver Bullet, but it has character. It's top speed is 56 MPH, so hold on to you hats and prepare for the adrenaline rush. The gold mine theme is pretty cool, situated in the middle of Ghost Town with its Old Western appeal. I stood looking up at this beast, I could not believe it was a ll made of wood. We went on this ride twice. The first time, there was no line, the second time, we waited for 45 minutes to get on. read more

If I were to ride one ride at Knott's Berry Farm, it would be this one. This is, by far, the best wooden roller coaster on the West Coast in my opinion. Grizzly at Great America and Roar at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom can't touch this. It's also the longest wooden roller coaster on the West Coast and has two major drops. For those complaining about the shakiness, it's a wooden roller coaster: it comes with the territory. Always a KBF favorite and definitely one you should ride at night time. read more

It's been a while since I've been on this ride and I hadn't been on it since before it was renovated a few years ago. I went on it twice today and even though I loved it before I think I love it even more now! GCI's renovation of the track worked like a charm and the track is a lot more smooth than I remember without sacrificing the thrills and intensity. I like that they removed the mid-course break run which used to grind things to a halt and now continues on in relentless fashion. I used the FastLane wrist band so I didn't have to wait in the typically long line, but if I did, the wait would have been worth it in the end, as the ride length is just about right and gives a nice payoff. I rode in the back both times I went on and the airtime here is spectacular, some of the best of any roller coaster I've ridden in California at least. This might be my favorite ride in the whole park and it's no wonder the lines often get so long as other people seem to agree with my assessment. It's a must for any and all coaster enthusiasts, as this is perhaps the greatest wooden roller coaster on the West Coast! read more

Date of visit: August 20, 2016 "Yippee yi ooh... yippee yi yay... ghost riders in the sky.." - Johnny Cash, "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" Billed as the longest wooden roller coaster in the West Coast, with a 108-foot drop(!) and a 4.533 foot wooden track that takes two minutes to go through, GhostRider will definitely make you go "Yippee" (along with more than a few screams and select curse words)! Once you get past the initial climb and drop, prepare yourself for what's at least a 56 mph ride with twists, turns, banks, and all around thrills! Seeing how we've been on wooden coasters before (Magic Mountain's Colossus before the change to Twisted Colossus, the Giant Dipper in San Diego), we were expecting a trip to the chiropractor after riding GhostRider - for some reason, this wasn't the case. Sure, there's some jostling around, but the ride is actually much smoother than what we thought it would be. Perhaps that's due to the recent refurbishment... Despite the forty minute wait in line, this ride is definitely worth the wait! Get here early, too! (And now I kinda want to ride it at night...) read more

3:07PM - Lured by GhostRider's reputation as the longest wooden rollercoaster on the West Coast, my visiting friend and I enter the ride's queue. Unaware that the current wait time is 2 hours, we begin conversing about the Calico Mine Train's creepy animatronics. 3:34PM - Conversation has run dry. The line remains stagnant. We whip out our phones and revel in being antisocial. 4:02PM - We make it inside a large wooden barn where we are met with a ghastly sight: the line zigzags 8-10 times before directing riders upstairs for what can only be more of the same. Video screens do not provide welcome distraction; instead, they remind us that we could have paid extra money to avoid the line in which we find ourselves. 4:53PM - As we approach the loading dock, a verbal scuffle breaks out: a middle-aged woman is offended that a teenage boy refuses to stop bouncing a basketball. She escalates the fight with a few choice words. He returns the favor. Leveraging her privilege, she demands security remove the teenager for verbally "attacking" her daughter - something that did not happen. The fight ends as quickly as it began, but a disquieting calm settles over the horrified masses. 4:59 PM - After 1 hour and 52 minutes, we finally board the ride. The sun has set. The temperature has dropped considerably. Bright orange rope lights illuminate the route of the cars. Despite its wooden structure, the train does not bump or clack excessively. No sooner have we ascended the first hill and cleared the first drop than we are already approaching another at 56 mph. Tears form in our eyes but our pulled away by the speed and force of the ride. We bank left. We bank right. We are greeted by another hill promising further excitement. 5:02PM - By the time we exit the 4553-foot ride approximately 2 minutes and 40 seconds after boarding, we have already come to consensus that this was easily the highlight of our day and that it was totally worth the excruciatingly long wait. read more

Went here during the remodel of the ride and it is a lot better than when I first rode it as I was really bored or maybe it was with the crowd I was with. Rode this at night time and day time when it first opened. The ride was actually longer than I remembered, but it was not too shaky and did not break my back as most wooden roller coasters do. The line itself can move a little slow. Riding it at night is more scary though as you do see the orange light across the ride. Day time is okay as well a good ride though and fun. read more

OMG I LOVE THIS RIDE!!! If you love roller coasters, you NEED to try this ride. It was a fun experience from start to finish! You can see and hear this roller coaster as you walk into the park. It sounds super rickety and all the screams made the butterflies start swarming in my stomach. BUT isn't that why you ride roller coasters? LOL. My niece and I rode this first. My niece was cracking me up the whole time we were in line. "Aunty, omg how long are we going to wait?" "Aunty, we have to go UPstairs still????" "Aunty, are those cobwebs real...or fake...OMG IS THAT A SPIDER????" "Aunty, this ride better be worth the wait." Hahahaha. We ended up in line for about 40 minutes, not too bad if you think about it. The one thing that we noticed was...you can hear all the screams and such walking in, but not while you're in line. My friends and I have a really bad joke about this ride. It goes something like, "if you were pregnant when you got on you aren't anymore." Seriously though, this ride is crazier than it looks. I am a rollercoaster junkie and admittedly I tend to get bored easily and need the next extreme ride. This ride is not that. Everytime I get on here, I wonder "why am I doing this again?" The first time I rode it was with my dad in the late 90's. At that point he was in his 60's. I applaud him in my head every time I ride this ride. This ride is fast, hectic, and rickety all at the same time. The first drop is always intense and longer than you would think. Since GhostRider can be closed randomly, I make it a point to try to jump on this ride everytime I get to Knotts. If you think this ride is nuts in the day, try riding it at night. The orange track lights just add to the mayhem. If you want to add an extra element of terror, you could ride it nearsighted (take your glasses off) so you have no clue what's coming up. read more

So I was visiting the park with a small group of friends, one of whom is an older woman who has some back issues. She decided she would allow herself to ride one roller coaster that day so we asked one of the park workers to give us a little insight on all the coasters there. In his words... "Ghostrider is like being in violent car crash over and over again." Needless to say, she chose not to ride this one. Soooooo much fun!!! I look forward to this ride every time I come to Knott's. A ginormous wooden roller coaster with heart stopping drops and plenty of twists and turns. Best ride at knotts. No matter what seat you have you'll still enjoy this ride. Has many drops and is a nice ride time.

I can't believe it took this long for someone to add Ghost Rider. Here's my take: Santa Cruz's Giant Dipper is still my favorite. But Ghost Rider is the only roller coaster I've ever ridden that challenged the Dipper's #1 ranking. I went on the ride not long after it opened. I waited a long time. I hate to wait in lines. When the ride was over, I got in line again. It was that good. The Ghost Rider has a strong out-of-control feel. It's intentionally unpainted, so it looks older and more unmaintained than it really is, and that raises the nervousness level. It's fast, but doesn't try to break speed records. Instead, the curves are quite tight, the hills have good air time, the elements come quickly, and you get thrown into everything. So it has an excitement that isn't found on steel coasters that try to blow riders away by being 200 feet tall and having 10 loops. It is one of the rougher rides I've been on, and I can understand how some people get headaches and whiplash on this ride. It's important to be ready for anything. The second you see a curve coming, lean into it before entering the curve. Bottom line: the Ghost Rider is mostly for coaster enthusiasts and thrillseekers. Not for newbies or the squeamish; they can stay off the ride and hold everything you were carrying (on one of my many trips, I wrapped my camera strap around my arm and put the camera under my shirt, and I still felt like I was going to lose it). If Magic Mountain has your kind of ride, and you can go on only one ride at Knott's, then ride this one too; IMHO, Ghost Rider is by far the most exciting ride at Knott's Berry Farm. read more
