I think the concept of Market District is fantastic. Let's take a Giant Eagle and make it into a shopping destination - a la whole foods, North Market, or Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati. That said, I think it's about twice as much grocery store as I actually need. When I went in to check it out (and pick up my weekly shopping), I was literally handed a map to the store so I'd be able to find anything. I appreciate the courtesy, but let me repeat: This store is so big you need a MAP to shop there. The cafe and wine sections were doing very good business, and the food for either a meal at the store or to take home is a nice touch. I also enjoyed walking through the meat sections, and taking a look at some of the more exotic selections, and checking out the charcuterie section next to the cheese department - though it seemed like they're mostly selling products created outside the store. I was under the impression they were going to create offerings there, as well? Plus, I can't say anything bad about a store that has a built in candy shop, complete with a team making toffees and fudge on site. Prices for normal groceries matched up with regular Giant Eagle prices (and Giant Eagle cards are honored there), and the prices for the more upscale items didn't seem out of range with what I'd expect to see at Whole Foods. But, for day to day shopping, it really did seem a bit too much. If I was planning a special occasion dinner, or doing some catering for friends and family, Market District will be my first stop. When I just need some bananas and some fruit to pack into lunch boxes for the week, I think I'm still running over to the Kroger up the street. read more

GEMD is an awesome place. Admittedly, I've never gone here for the sole purpose of doing my weekly grocery shopping, but I have visited on several occasions. I've gotten the pizza, some stromboli, and a turkey dinner. Always experienced good service, and you can eat for under $10. This store also has a really good beer selection. Top 5 in the Central Ohio area (of the places I have been). There's a lot to choose from, and I always spend some time in this area. GEMD also puts on events such as wine tastings, so check out their calendar. read more

Holy crap! What a grocery mecca. This place is more than just groceries - it's cafes, a coffee shop, a juice bar, a wind cellar, a beer cave, a kitchen supply store, a bakery, a candy shop, a pharmacy, it's amazing! Living so much closer now, I can't help but want to do all my grocery shopping here. I have recently been diagnosed with mild Celiac's Disease and have discovered the joys of gluten-free shopping (NOT!). This store not only has a great little section for people like me, but if you approach one of their better trained employees, they'll help you find items meeting your dietary needs in other sections of the store. I really appreciate that since I'm still learning what I can and can't eat. The cafe area is lovely and there are so many options for food styles and meals, it's impossible to choose. The little coffee shop and juice bar are a nice touch because I'm forever thirsty while shopping but hate having to open a bottle of something and pay for the empty at the counter. It makes me feel silly. The wine area is just phenomenal. I could spend a big old chunk of my day just wandering that area. They have more types of wines than I have ever seen in a grocery store. You can find your cheap Yellow Tail and some expensive brands imported from places I know I'd butcher the pronunciation of. The major drawback of this place is the weekend crowds and the sheer size of it. If you want a quick trip on a Sunday afternoon because you forgot a couple items for dinner, go somewhere else - I do. I just can't handle how many people pack into Market District on the weekends. It's insane. You'd think since the store is so big it wouldn't feel as crowded, not so. But, if you want fresh bottled olive oil, premium roasted coffee, a wide selection of ethnic, organic, and gluten-free foods; if you want to eat a meal right before you go shopping or grab a juice smoothie to keep yourself hydrated; if you want to check out the fresh bread bakery or try some fantastic produce, check out Market District. read more

When I'm in the area or in the mood for a long grocery trip, Market District is where I head. Not only can you get great samples and shop for everything on your grocery list, but you can dine in or take out prepared foods. $3 for a half chicken, how can you beat that? What also makes this Giant Eagle rank above the rest is the special events that take place. I have attended cooking demonstrations from Food Network chefs and other TV personalities including Adam Richman. Ever find an amazing recipe and are having trouble finding it at your usual grocery around the corner? Then head to Market District! They have a large variety of produce and if you can't find what you are looking for and then can get it, they will order it for you! My one gripe though did happen when I fell in love with their fig infused balsamic vinegar. They changed suppliers of their oil and vinegar station and now no longer carry this item, and the white fig balsamic just isn't the same. read more

I never thought I'd be writing a review for a grocery store. But this place is just not your average grocery store. It is huge. So if you've never been, set aside some time on your first visit. Sounds silly, but I'm serious. I was there for over an hour the first time I went. Ok, some highlights: -Well-organized, fresh, and gorgeous produce section. Everything you need. -Gigantic prepared food section. Hot foods, Cold salads, a deli/cafe, pizza, soup, etc. So you can stop and grab dinner in a pinch. -Gourmet meats/cheeses. Some are pricey, but you can find basically any type of cheese you want. And who doesn't love cheese, am I right? -Very large wine section. They also have a tasting section. You can load a card with some cash and try a few different wines. They rotate different wines, and there is a good variety of reds and whites. -Also great beer selection. Nuff said. -Locally made soaps and such. Cool! They do have a section up front near the checkout lines with "the essentials" like milk, bread, and eggs so you can grab 'em and go. But overall, this isn't a quick stop. At least for me! read more

Oh I'm so torn about Market District. There are things I love and things I so do not. Everything I love seems to be in the prepared food area, the section where you go when you're picking up something for lunch or eating in. So much selection, though I'm spoiled by Whole Foods' ingredient lists so that it's frustrating not to be able to review at a glance what you're about to put in your to-go dish. The sushi is good, though, and not quite as overpriced as WF. I also love the upstairs seating and the free wifi, available 24 hours. I actually came here once late at night when my building had a power outage and I had to get online. It's nice to have a reliable place to do that after grabbing something from downstairs to munch on. What I don't like is the grocery space. It's like hiking through a national park. I know that size means more to find, but I spent half an hour wandering around and never found the tofu. I never lost hope that it existed, somewhere, waiting to be discovered. I know, first world problems, right? But really, one (wo)man's tofu is another (wo)man's fill-in-the-blank. Did you know you need a Giant Eagle card to use the self-checkout? Maybe it's posted somewhere, but I missed it. The employee was quick to come save me from my embarrassment with a swipe of the store card, but if you get caught with your pants down like that, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a speedy lane like that. Well ok, maybe the purpose is to reward cardholders. If that's true, then I can only hope there was a sign I missed, because otherwise it's kinda counter-productive. Since moving close to this store, it's grown on me. Previously, I really liked the ambition of the place but could not stomach the prices of an average grocery trip. However, I've actually discovered that they have some good deals. For instance, there's a cheese of the month which is usually excellent and cheap. They'll also have some items on sale that are a good a deal as any grocery store. Doing 100% of your shopping here is still pricey. Regardless, the store has an amazing selection of specialty items, a great takeout food section, and a nice seating section for studying plus a great patio. It is quite an asset for the neighborhood and I hope it can stay in business for a long time to come. read more

Another review that echos the other negative sentiments on here. A few things to add: Horrific layout all the way from the parking lot (concrete barriers that make you walk 1/4 mile to get to your car), to produce (barely enough room to push a cart), to the isles (nothing is where it should be). I ended up walking in a big circle at least once. Isles are separated in ways that just make no sense to the human brain. This is probably intentional to make you spend more time wandering around putting stuff in your cart. Giant Eagle is notorious for this (for example at my normal GE, you walk through an isle and all of a sudden dead end in to the ice cream section). The store was basically out of everything I needed and we ended up needing to stop at Kroger for over half of our grocery list. The entire chilled food section (meat, dairy, etc) was closed due to a malfunction of some kind. Employees were running around, almost plowing me over (no apology) not even asking if I need help. No smiling faces at all except from the greeter. I can't leave without listing a few positives: they do have some exotic stuff that is priced more competitively than Whole Foods. Good cheese selection, and I enjoyed the flavored vinegars. Not enough to redeem the store. I won't be coming back. read more

Every visit here I am impressed by the ambition. Knowing the economics of supermarkets I gets a sense of the risks. Though Kingsdale is a decent and transformed mall in the center of a populous area I still wonders if it is the right place for this much overhead--a North Market concept under the roof of one corporation. The deep-sixing of its 24-hour operation to a midnight closing may signal such an overreach. That said, I like it but don't shop it as much. I like its form but its functioning is a bit undesirable. Supermarkets in todays world have to balance selection with connivence; be big enough to supply customers' various needs but small enough to insure efficient shopping. GE Market far overbalanced on the size side for it to be a weekly fill store. The positives are many. A gambit hedging the growing organic market, GEMD has loads of foods for Whole Foods and Trader Jacks shoppers. Fresh meats, pastas, ethnic items, and gourmet dishes circle its outer shell. They serve meats beyond the norm, and candies; a great place for a host to display novel apps and sweets at parties. There is a growler bar, a pizza spot, a candy bar among other spots for hungry lunchers. Its spirit department is huge. Wine from all over the world stuff shelves that take at least 60-feet. The cooler stuffed with alcohol and a great selection of every type of beer imaginable is huge. There are tons of whiskies and clear spirits choices. At the eastern side is the typical Giant Eagle supermarket with dry goods and everyday items. They have seating upstairs for lunchers. They have a Starbucks because there isn't one across Tremont, apparently. Darken lighting flows from high ceilings, more calming then the glare of the usual fluorescence, highlighting walls, nooks, and turns and gives the space a destination feel. The aisle are wide and varied by angles and placements; each has its own design and reflex an organic cityscape or place of nature with random surprises. You don't know what you'll see around the next bend. The negatives are few but substantial. The merchandised design mentioned above is gorgeous but renders finding items an exploration; you almost need to consult Google Earth to find something. This can result in adding hundreds of steps as you walk back and forth the mammoth store. Pricing can be higher for less quality on organic items found cheeper at other farmer markets like Lucky's or Whole Foods. If you need to fill both regular and organic/gourmet items on a weekly bases than this is the place to go. But for others like me that shop Whole Food types monthly then it's best to shop those items elsewhere and do fridge fills at more functional stores. I like the atmosphere of GEMD, it's a fun place to visit for wine tastings and to hanging out, but not for a regular stop. It makes me wonder how viable it is in the long run. read more

This place is awesome! Not only can you buy your groceries here, you can literally come here everyday for lunch or dinner if you like. They have a section in the store where they have prepared foods for you to pick. You can find salads, well prepared dinner meals - rotisserie chicken, veggies, pizza, soups, fresh fruit, sushi, etc. This specific location is their private brand Market District so everything in that store food wise is pretty much fresh. Fresh cheese, bread, bakery goods, you name it, you can find it there. I came here from being an out of towner Clevelander and I have to say they have to have one of these in Cleveland. They even have smoothie, coffee mini shops, a full service for catering, florist, and gelato, cotton candy, more. If I moved to Columbus or next time I'm in town, I'm coming back here. If you had asked me a year ago, I probably would have given this grocery store 4-5 stars. Not so much anymore. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about this store, but I don't know, I just don't like it as much as I used to. One big thing is the produce. In the past year I have had quite a few time of buying fresh fruit or vegetables that ended up not being so fresh. I had a package of Sugar Snap Peas that had a nasty slimy one in it, the fruit has gone bad quickly, and the overall quality has really gone downhill as of late. There's also just not that much variety (or so it feels). I don't know if it's because of the way it is set up, but I don't feel like I have a lot of choices when it comes to the fresh produce. That being said, it's really big and you can find much of what you need there. The people have always been nice and helpful, and the cashiers are friendly (if you like the human interaction). It's nice that there is a lot of choice because you can compare brands and see which is the most affordable or healthiest. I think it's pretty reasonably priced, and there are always sales happening or coupons sent out if you are a card member. They also have all kinds of food offerings - a hot foods bar, a salad bar, sushi place, pizza place...other places that I haven't tried. I know my husband and I have gotten dinner there numerous time from the hot food bar and are never let down. I really like the salad bar too, and the Olive bar by the deli (I'm also an olive fanatic). Basically this place has everything and anything that you could want, and some things that you didn't know you wanted. I think it really is a good grocery store, but our loyalties have started to shift to places where we can get better produce. This place is a bit out of the way for me and will be reserved for either something special I need, when I'm jonesing for food bar- a -palooza, or if I save up my grocery list until it is big enough to warrant the trip. The place is huge and has just about everything you could ever want or thought you needed (although it did not have any Jamaican spices or foods which I am running out of). It contains all of the mandatory sections of any grocery store - dairy, frozen foods, ethnic, etc. - but in much larger quantities, and varieties. We have here a cheese section with 300 types of cheese, a fresh meat section which had ground elk sitting next to ground beef, a large bakery section with all sorts of loaves waiting to be taken home by you, deli meats, hot food bars that offered more things than I can remember, hot food sections where you could order pizza to Indian food to sushi and all points in between, a chocolate section that I had to pull hubs out of, a very nice large wine section, and so forth and so forth. Helpful people all over and your fuel perk points too. What stopped me in my tracks were two things...not the buy your food and sit down and scarf it down section - wait for it - but the beverage sections. One was a place where you could get some sort of card in order to purchase wine by the glass like a vending machine (you picked the amount that went into the glass and paid accordingly) and the beer and ale section that had a sign above it stating only so many ounces of the libation could be consumed on the premises. Well damn! That trumps just getting a can of ginger ale to go with your salad any day of the week. I even saw some men walking about with their wine glass in hand as they trudged along behind their wives doing the grocery shopping. I really liked it, just wish it wasn't so far away........wonder what wine and cheese would go with an elk burger? read more

After waiting 20 minutes to try to check out in the self-checkout line (since every other line was 4+ people deep with full carts and the express lane wasn't open) to purchase my 3 items, I found out I needed a Giant Eagle card to check out. I do not have one and was only at this Giant Eagle to use the fast care. I refused to wait another 20 mins to check out since I had a fever and felt horrible. I just put my stuff down and walked out. Drove to Kroger and was in and out in less time than I waited in line at Giant Eagle. I've never seen such slow service to check out at grocery store in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon. I want to like this place, I really do. But the prices are more than any other grocery store and service is lacking. You also really need to change the policy on needing a card to self checkout! It's so rude to new or potential customers. And trust me, I've heard others complain about it too. read more

You could most definitely term me a "Sunday regular" at this place. It is what I consider my main grocery store and although it falls short in some places, it is so solid on others that I will continue to make the trip from Worthington to go here. First, their pre-made food area is fantastic. They have so many different options so if you are hungry before or after shopping you can always stop by and have a good meal/snack. I love walking over there and sampling their pizza and things. Now the main thing I like about this grocery is the produce. They have a great selection of produce, and it is always fresh. The carry many organics which I love, unfortunately they don't always have organics in the produce I like [asparagus, strawberries, oranges] But I have to say it is the winter season so I can imagine why these items are harder to find. They do always seem to have organic salads, broccoli, bananas, apples, onions, and much more; and these are all staples in my home so I am glad they are consistent. The other great thing about this store is they have an area for bulk rice/oats. I love buying their bulk wild rice and quinoa. Their bulk quinoa is WAY cheaper than anywhere else that I have ever seen. I remember buying those small teal boxes for about 3 times as much as this. They also have steel-cut oats which I plan to take advantage of soon. I like this Giant Eagle. It's big and fun. They have grass-fed and organic meats which is always a plus; and also an exciting amount of fish and handmade chicken sausages [mmm their is an apple one that is so tasty!] They also have a nice beer and wine selection, which is great for the beer-lover that I SO am. Their dairy department is also very nice; they have very current varieties of yogurts [All different varieties and flavors!] and any type of milk you'd prefer [I personally LOVE Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla but they have the local, organic cows milks as well.] This place is also nice because they have a section devoted to gluten-free, which is an up-and-coming trend and I definitely appreciate that. They also have a nice selection of handmade soaps and organic body products. I enjoy coming here on Sunday mornings. They have a frequent coffee card and I utilize that to the fullest. I like getting a cup of joe and walking around the store taking in all the sights and getting to be choosey when it comes to brands and whatnot. I have a always been a firm believer in Giant Eagle being FAR better than Kroger and this store solidifies that even more. read more

I freakin love this place I never thought I could love a grocery store, but I do. the market district not only has a variety of different hard to find food items, but their food to order stations are superb. One of the best if not best gyros I've ever had came from here. One of the best chicken and waffles platters came from here. Their salad bar/cold station is awesome. Sushi made fresh every day. If this were considered a restaurant it would probably be my favorite in town. Oh yeah and that whole grocery attached. Dry aged steaks, rare fish, freshly made baked goods. This place has it all. Not only that but they also have cooking presentations. We were privileged to see Martin Yan and Carla Hall (from Top chef) right there in the store! Giant Eagle Market District store is a vast improvement over its former self. The upgrade was needed. Today's food stores are HYBRIDS. One part grocery - one part restaurant - one part pharmacy - one part social networking scene. Variety is key but can their locations causes frustration. The learning curve of where products reside in relation to check-out is still a pet peeve of mine. But that's "peanuts" to an elephant. The big beast will find 'em no matter where you put 'em - no matter how long the search. Check-out is another story. It has all the feel of a Darth Vader system - it seems dark, forboding and seldom has staff needed to process clients' purchases with efficiency. More staff, please. The restaurants are nice and the food is good (but slightly pricey). Salad and hot bars for take-out have come down in price and I like that. All in all, it's got my business and vote. read more

This place has everything. It is a beautiful marriage between a normal giant eagle, a world market, and a quick-service restaurant. We love 6 for 6 on Friday nights but its also a great place to have a poor man's buffet. The staff is really pretty amazing. I was really looking forward to this store opening. Walking around gourmet grocery stores is one of my favorite things to do, but I think I should've waited a few weeks, because it was so crowded I could barely move. Plus, I had to take 310 steps to get from my car to the door (yes, I counted). I was a little disappointed in Market District, to be honest. It seems to be mostly focused on freshly prepared food, which is fine, but I was really looking forward to seeing the variety of packaged foods. I've been to Jungle Jim's several times and I've seen the rows and rows and rows of candy bars, bottled soda, hot sauce, ethnic food, etc. Market District had a slightly better selection of groceries than your typical Giant Eagle (for example, some British candy bars), but not significantly better. I was expecting at least some interesting soda, but I didn't see anything that my usual GE doesn't have. Heck, even World Market has a more interesting selection of pop. As for prepared food: Just like at Whole Foods, you could definitely eat a very filling and varied meal here. One thing I noticed right away is the much larger selection of sushi, with some artfully prepared sashimi plates even. The bakery had much fancier items than my local GE, and I couldn't believe how big the cheese shop was. The only thing I bought was some various things dipped in chocolate from the candy shop (Oreos, Nutter Butters, sugar wafers). They had lots of stuff like this, but all milk chocolate, no dark. What's up with that? No matter, everything was delicious. I'll go back in a few weeks when it's not so chaotic. read more

I had been meaning to go here for a while, ended up there today because I was out of orange juice and had a bit of time since I'm off sick. They really went crazy on this place - everything is new and overthought, right down to the shopping cart carrels (which will, I think, become hazards to navigation come real snowfall.) I visited around noon on a Wednesday, and it was moderately busy - like an ordinary weeknight at the Graceland Kroger. Speaking of which - it is way nicer than a Kroger Marketplace. And even more confusing, unfortunately. I got the grand circle tour of cheeses before finding the normal yogurt; I never did figure out where the bread was, and it took more ingenuity than my fever-addled brain had in it to locate the freaking milk. I didn't even get near the prepared foods side of the place, and still spent close to forty minutes wandering around, hoping to spot the last few things on my very short shopping list. Someday I'll be back to find the paper towels, I swear. Anyway, it's a lot of work for a grocery trip. Definitely a special-occasions kind of destination for me, but that's in part because I live right across the street from a Kroger and have to drive several miles to this Giant Eagle. (and I agree with the other folks who mentioned a lack of brand diversity... and would like to throw in my sadness that they don't carry my Rosarita beans.) read more

I began my Friday night adventure at Market District in the prepared foods section. The food selection is pretty decent and the quality isn't too bad - my pizza wasn't anything to write home about though. The Fruit Loot smoothie was excellent though! I drank an entire garden's worth of fruit in that smoothie I'm pretty sure. Continuing on, we hit up their weekly wine tasting (Friday from 6-8pm) where they have 6 tastings for $6. They give you a plastic cup at the beginning and send you to different stations around the store. At each station they have a different wine and pair it with some appetizer-like item. This is a TRUE tasting where they fill up your cup a classy, "reasonable" amount (i.e., not nearly full enough to let you embrace your inner AA-ness. C'est la vie!). After the wine tasting I "chilled out" in their walk-in beer refrigerator - yup, I just made that pun - and perused their fairly diverse selection of beers. If you're a guy grocery shopping with your significant other, I highly recommend escaping into this beer mecca. Overall a neat grocery store, but there wasn't anything in particular that would draw me back time-after-time over something nearer to me. read more

OMG its the Giant Eagle Market District!!! Welcome to the Mecca of UA Soccer Moms. I went here for lunch and the place was absolutely crawling with young mothers and their children. If I was looking to pick up lonely stay at home wives (and who says I'm not!!!...except for my wife LOL) this would be the place. On another note, this place has lots of food....which is great cause its actually a grocery store, albeit a fancy one with a huge food court. I've had a few things worth commenting on: The Good: Sushi - much better selection than any other grocery and very very fresh and tasty!! Cheese and Meat Section - WOW what a selection, and who doesn't like meats in casings - yea thats right sausage!!! Lots of specialty and imported meats and cheeses...mmmm (Drool) Sub Shop - really friendly staff, good selection, my kids loved them!!! The Bad: Crazy busy at lunch and kind of a weird check out system. The layout of the store is strange, but I think the secret is to walk down the aisle that transects the middle of the store..forget the traditional up and down grocery shopping. The Ugly: Nothing too ugly, but all that food in the "buffet bars" in the middle. Only about half looked edible and I can't imagine it is fresh every day. Overall, if you are looking for an attractive shopping crowd that is only slightly pretentious OR if you are a foodie looking for unique foods. CHECK IT OUT!! read more

Future in-laws thought we were funny to visit them in Columbus and ask to visit the grocery store. We saw a special on TV showing how Columbus is the testing market area for many new things. They showed how you can shop and drink a glass of wine all at the same time. WE HAD TO CHECK IT OUT. Well, I never had so much fun at a grocery store. As you walk in, you hear a live band upstairs in the cafe seating area, not just any band, they sounded good, like indie rock. I love how clean the place feels. All the glass in front of the foods was very clean and the whole place was spotless. Then you get a card to insert in the wine sampler area - push a button to try different types of wine. Take your glass and off you go a shopping. Who knows what we'll find next. In the meat section there is a chef preparing food, sharing samples, talking on his microphone explaining tips to good fajitas. One area has a lazy Susan full of recipes to choose - then go get your ingredients. This would be fun if you just didn't know what to make for dinner. Another area had where they make "Kim's Magic Pop" which is a very light rice cake type bread. Low fat and tasty for sandwiches or desserts. We got two bags. One of my favorite areas was where you can taste test and then mix your own dipping oil. We ended up making a Tuscan olive oil with blueberry balsamic vinegar. Then we went in another area where all the bread is made fresh. Bought some jalapeno bread and roasted tomato bread. Ah, we were in Heaven later on that evening dipping the soft, moist, delicious tasting bread into our very own creation. There were plenty of other items to taste test. I like the store itself and the products, but the service here is terrible. There is a selection of dried mushrooms and peppers, but prices are missing from many of them, and there are no containers to be found. Nice selection of charcuterie, but actually getting a team member to slice the products for you seems to take a formal decree from the pope. The bakery is always out of French baguettes, and they just laugh and say, oh yeah those are always gone early. It's unfortunate that there is apparently some sort of legal restriction on making a high enough quantity to meet the demand. It's apparent that a large investment was made in this store, which is why it's so strange that the staffing level is so terrible. Also, be vigilant when checking out, on three different occasions found them charging the wrong price for items. read more

After living my entire life with Wegmans (also known as the best grocery store on earth--argue with me and you will lose, and maybe cry), moving to Columbus was troublesome. I tried grocery store after grocery store. Kroger, meh. Meijer...what the heck is that? Whole Foods--great, except what about "normal" stuff at normal prices? Giant Eagle, OK, not so bad, and FuelPerks are awesome. But then the Giant Eagle Market District opened up and I realized there was some hope. Large aisles! Tons of awesome prepared foods, a bakery, a full meat section, a gourmet cheese and goods area, lanes with people to actually staff them and pack your bags! Seriously, I drive all the way to Upper Arlington from downtown (takes maybe 12-15 minutes) and it's worth it. I finally know my way around the store, and though it still horrifies me that things like canned tomatoes and artichokes are in the international foods aisle, this certainly makes the pain of living without Wegmans more bearable. read more

Wow... this place is cool. It's basically like a Whole Foods minus the insane prices (I mean yeah it's a little pricier than your normal grocery store, but nothing like Whole Foods). Let's take a minute to talk about their meat and seafood department .... pretty much amazing. It has a better selection than Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati, which is kind of crazy. Almost all of their fish is Wild Caught and they have like 6 varieties of fresh shrimp. They have almost every cut of meat you could dream of and there is always someone there to help you. I was really impressed with this store. My sister lives in the area and she said she ends up going multiple times a week. I would too! I would eat fish so much more often if I had this store near me. Worth it even if it's not near you. read more

I work in Dublin and actually use Market District for catering work events a lot. I was hesitant the first time I ordered, but the food is consistently amazing and high quality, with great customer service from beginning to end. I always try to get there ahead of time to do some shopping for myself when I go to pick up party food, but there is NEVER ENOUGH TIME because the place is so huge and full of interesting, good stuff. read more

So this location is very obviously under staffed and their employees aren't given the right tools to do their job. We came to get food at the food bar part and there wasn't enough people working the counters. Then we went to check out and there wasn't anyone at the cash registers so we asked an employee walking by, who called into a radio to ask and the response on the radio was there wasn't anyone. And the employee who already looked stressed was like "well we are looking for employees so if you wanted a job or know anyone looking..." I mean for that size of organization your management team needs to make sure to Head these problems off and you should be compensating employees enough to actually get them to stay (and have a living wage). read more

The food samplling and wine tasting events were pretty fun! It's hilarious to see buzzed and wobbly-moving people clash with the sober senior citizen and family shoppers. haha. I can see myself shopping here a lot or eating the prepared foods... if I lived closer. read more

No! I want the old Giant Eagle back! I can't find anything. It's so large and for some reason they made the shopping aisles narrower. Two carts barely fit down one. Items that should be next to one another logically are ten aisles apart. Workers often stand around chatting and ignoring lost customers. One item was only available before you enter the store--requiring the shopper to leave the cart in the store, walk out and then bring it back in. I spend longer trying to find what I came in for--and leave with less. And frustrated. It might be Gianter than the old one around the corner--but it's not better. read more

I like this place, and I do the bulk of my grocery shopping here. They have pretty much everything I want, and if I have a recipe I want to make, it is almost guaranteed I can get what I need for it here. I can get a tasty dinner from the cafe with a very reasonably price beer from their cooler. They have an Enomatic for tasting wine. Also, you can get fuel perks on esoteric gourmet stuff! (I find it's a lot easier to rationalize buying a $10 hunk of weird cheese if you can convince yourself it will save you some cents worth of gas in the future) Market District is also open 24-hours, unlike pretty much every other gourmet or pseudo-gourmet grocery in the city, which is a HUGE plus for me, as my job makes me work wonky hours frequently. It's really comforting to be able to pick up a carton of Snowville milk and a bag of bagels baked the day before on your way home at 3am. Yeah, the prices aren't the best, but it's Giant Eagle, and you probably knew that before you come here. I personally think the layout is fine. I mean, you enter, you walk through the produce, and then you walk up and down the aisles like every other grocery in the world. All of the extraneous food court, bakery, charcuterie, olive bar, pharmacy, etc. surrounds everything else, and if you ignore all that, this is basically a regular grocery store in the middle. I don't really understand the general anger that seems to exist about the layout; I pretty much knew where everything was by my third trip here. These days, it never really seems to get especially crowded either. read more

I live right across the street from Market District, which is both a blessing and a curse. It's super convenient, especially being open 24 hours. However, the convenience makes me lazy because if I don't feel like making anything for dinner, I just head on over to their prepared foods section...haha. The various stations are all delicious and can satisfy my hunger no matter what I'm in the mood for. Prices for prepared foods aren't too bad, either...especially when you use the frequent buyer cards at the sandwich or pizza stations and earn free meals. The staff is generally very friendly and will let you sample items you are unsure about. The rest of the store can be a bit overwhelming at first, but I've pretty much mastered where everything is by now. Market District has a really great selection of cheese. They also do cooking demonstrations and pass out free recipe cards. On the weekends there are usually special events and free samples, so you can fill up your tummy while you shop. :o) Sundays can get a bit crowded though, so if you can avoid it. As far as grocery stores go, Giant Eagle is always a bit higher priced than the competition, but I pay it due to the convenience. read more

If I were to get trapped in a store, I think it would be Giant Eagle Market District because they have EVERYTHING! I think I would go just for the candy section. Talk about making a dream come true goody bag. Their candy section is on par with the best of the candy stores out there. They also have a similar selection in the trail mix area. This place is like whole foods but somehow they've added more variety. I came here on a Friday night and they had a wine tasting going on. Again, if I had to spend my Friday night at grocery store. Hands down Giant Eagle Market District. read more

I agree with the other comments stating this place is understaffed. I actually started going elsewhere a couple months ago because of it. Nearly every time I was in there I had some kind of poor experience, usually with checking out. One time, a manager literally yelled at me to go down to another register. I was taken aback that an employee, let alone a manager would speak to a customer like that. When I moved the other aisle, they closed it, and I had lost my place in line in the other one. The upper level seating of the cafe area is a great place to study. Ample seating, all the free water you want, clean restrooms, free WiFi, lots of outlets, microwaves, and a coffee shop and a variety of food/snacks only a flight of stairs away. Plus, it's open 24 hours for late night studying sessions! From their cafe, I've had the crepes, Indian food, and Chinese food. I found it all to be pretty mediocre but perhaps I haven't tried the right things. I do appreciate having such a large selection of cuisines to chose from! I also frequently partake in indulging in their large selection of sweets: rice krispie treats, whoopie pies, gelato...yum! read more
