Talk about lazy, I got bad meat and bad service. I cut my meat to prepare, it smells rancid. I went to customer service to return, I didn't bring my receipt. She said I couldn't. I asked to speak with the manager, and 2 seconds later they asked if i had put on loyalty card. Luckily I had .... After 8 minutes, manager finally opened computer to start search. Over 15 minutes into it, she said she couldn't find my number. We did it again. I do have to say, computers looked archaic. Can they not just search under meat, and if so, how could it possibly take this long. I told her I was not leaving bc I'd spent over $30 on the rancid piece of meat. Lo and behold.... After over 38 minutes of not walking away, I got a refund. Bad meat, bad service. Shame on you Kroger. read more

I had an experience this morning much the same as I have about 75% of the time I shop at Kroger. Prices that are recorded at the checkout are not the same as prices marked on the shelf. Okay Kroger, I see you making some changes. I might not necessarily like the changes but they are making an impact on the overall experience at this location, and in a positive way. Recently, to try and crack down on theft, they put a security guard up front that actually checks your receipt like you're at a Sam's Club or something. Not a fan, but I am seeing it make a difference. Over the years since the pandemic this grocery store has seen its ups and downs and I'm hoping it's on an upswing. With the new Lucky's opening down the street I'm coming here less and less... unless it's something I know I can get cheaper at Kroger. Another one I'm sure I reviewed. Been coming here, occasionally, for years- decades even. It's not my favorite and it is not handy for me normally, but if I'm in the area it works out. Gets crazy busy often. I came at 8am on a weekday this time and it wasn't bad. Smallish, and they did not have some of the things I wanted (fresh basil and oregano, for example.) But they have enough to get by for most shopping. A bit expensive but seems better than the GV one. Service is okay. Despite this "meh" review I would have loved to have this nearby when I went to OSU, so I'm sure the students appreciate it. It's far from the worst Kroger, even if that is not saying much. I have to say this is the worst store. I am mad that I went in there every register is self scan. I not sure what made corporate change this store to that type of service. The manager was rude and not nice. The outside of the store has so much trash blowing around it is ridiculous. I felt like the employees that were working didn't want to be there. I used to pop in this Kroger when I worked downtown or had reason to be in the area - but I will not do so any more. The first times I shopped here was in the 90s when I lived near campus and went to OSU. It was awesome to have it so close and was a life saver in keeping my fridge filled. So when I started shopping back here a few years back when my employer moved our offices downtown - it was the same Kroger as in the past - just getting ready to upgrade to the experience it provides now - which is much nicer. However, I never recall the overwhelming students being a thing - causing long lines and waits. This didn't happen in the 90s nor did it until recently. This last trip was just to pick up a few things. Parking was easy enough and I hoped to pop in and out quickly. I started my rounds in the produce and wove my way through the aisles trying to locate things that have moved when they upgraded the store. Once I had everything, I hopped in line - when I finally found the end of it. I'm used to shopping at other Kroger so self check out is usually quick - with the concessional person fumbling through and taking forever. But I didn't expect that here where the average age of the shopped in WELL below mine. And while each shopper this day was efficient in checking out - it took forever. There were just too many people for too few check outs. When I finally cashed out my items and made it out of the store - again, getting out of the parking lot and back on my way was simple. But I won't return unless I have to as there are other Kroger options on my route home that will get me in and out quicker. In the grand scheme of things, however, I much prefer a Kroger to other grocery stores (except Aldi for their limited selection). That being said, I am so tired of going to Kroger and buying the same items - only to see price increased each and every shopping trip. I feel gouged by the grocery stores and gas stations alike - taking advantage of inflation and using it as an excuse to make huge profit margins on sales. Enough is enough. read more

Came here as I was leaving the Dr. Office, which is right around the corner. This is not my typical Kroger to shop at, however, it is super convenient if you live near short North & High Street. Listen here folks, the parking is a hot damn mess on a regular day (lol)! It's snowing today and the folk are speeding through the parking lot as if they're on a 70 mph highway tryna get to the casino!!! I try to park AWAY from folk but seems to never work. I fear my car will get hit as these jokers simply dont care. Anyways, this Krogers can be real sketch at times as you have peculiar people who come to shop or hangout here. The store always gives me a dirty vibes but I attribute it to the high traffic that comes into the store. I came in here for some darn ice cream, a mountain dew, and some bell peppers. I also came to see if they had raw turkey necks (i'm from the south)! Nope, no turkey necks! In fact, the freezer section was looking as if it has been ransacked. I did get my other items. I think this improved Kroger is a big improvement from the previous building. It used to be a lot smaller and the selection was bad. This store is much bigger and there's all the modern stuff as in all the newer stores or renovated. It's liquor section has it's own entrance with checkout so it's really convenient. There are other much improved sections of the store. I like that they expanded the organic and produce sections. It used to be a piece of shit store before it was rebuilt. This place fits in nicely among the redevelopment in the area. It helps fill that weird place between the Short North and South Campus. The prices here are not too bad. It also has the olive and salad bar at the deli with some good choices. There you can pick up some grape leaves and hummus. I recommend shopping at this Kroger for those on campus or in the Short North. It's the biggest grocery store and has the best selection without costing as much as the specialty stores around it. This is always crowded so that makes it hard to want to come here but it has it's own parking lot unlike other stores around there. read more

This is one of the busiest Krogers ever! The parking lot is forever full and there are always a ton of people in here. I came around 1:30 on a Friday and I was surprised to see that it was still busy. You see all kind of people here and it's certainly very diverse. College students live nearby, but you also see a lot of ethnic people and some true characters in here. I would love to avoid coming back here, because it's not the nearest one to me. Still, it's convenient to go here if I'm on that side of town. Self checkout had no line, shockingly. I wanted to get out as fast as I got in there. Everything in the store felt close together. I'm used to a more open layout. Police stood by the entrance. I'm thankful for it but it's a bit uncomfortable to know crime is high here. read more

This isn't the worst Kroger location I've ever been to but there's definitely plenty of room for improvement. This is the only major grocer in the immediate Short North/University District/Italian Village/Weinland Park area-- and they definitely capitalize on that fact. The lines are absolutely absurd, it doesn't seem to matter what day of the week, they never have enough registers open (this includes the self check out). Their lottery machine goes down pretty regularly during storm season lol. The parking lot is PERPETUALLY packed. Right now they're repaving and it'a five times as bad haha. Some positives/neutralizers: They're pretty good about stocking. Seldom ever have I gone to this Kroger looking for something only to find out it's out of stock. That's a rarity thankfully. Their liquor store/agency is AWESOME and has fast service. They're the best and most knowledgeable staff at the store to be honest. The Starbucks is standard and reliable. If they had more parking , wider aisles and more open checking stations it'd be a solid 4 star on a good day. A shout out to the pharmacist, Adam (?). I was trying to find wrapping or bandage to manage bleeding after a surgery. I couldn't find anything that I could manage on my own, as the surgery was on the arm of my dominant hand. (My bandage wrapping skills would be comic relief under any other circumstance.) Adam didn't see anything what would help me manage it on my own. When I went back to refill a prescription, he flagged me down, saying he found something that might work. He was right. The bandage was adhesive and was long enough to cover and protect the wound. Thank you Adam. read more

Every time I come into this Kroger, I pass one or two aggressive panhandlers (who will come all the way up to your car), their parking lot is full of trash and they rarely have carts available at the entrance. Upon check out my last time in, it was about 8pm, and they had two registers open with lines down EVERY aisle waiting to be checked out. When I walked over to the customer service desk I mentioned this to who appeared to be a manager who just shrugged it off and did there was nothing they could do- when I mentioned that THEY could ring people up they laughed it off. I left an entire cart of perishables there as I could not wait in this ridiculous line. I worked for Kroger many years ago.and cannot imagine for the life of me how the company has not done anything to improve this location. It is the central "hub" for all of the short north, OSU campus, linden, Italian village, and Weinland park. read more

Like some others have said, this is the quickest grocery to me so it only makes sense that I come here for the essentials. It's always busy with college kids if school is in session. I was here a month or so ago and their was brief fight between some patrons that broke out into pushes. It's not common since I go 2-3 times a week (I'm indecisive in grocery shopping) and haven't seen anything like it, but they do have their fair share of people loitering outside or people walking around the parking lot asking for money for the bus, food, pay phone (?), etc. If you are looking for the every day essentials, this will be do just fine. Don't go in expecting to walk out with some artisan cheeses or cuts of prime beef. Also, I swear, this Kroger must of the most amount of people who have never worked a self check out kiosk in the world. While they do have like 15 self check outs, so many people don't know how they work and will spend 5x as long checking out then they should. Also, there are some frequent employees working these that are good, but there are also some who spend more time conversing with other employees then helping out when needed. read more

Restored from the retail ashes of my formerly beloved Kroghetto, is the Short North's brand-spanking new Kroger Marketplace. Red brick and tall windows replace the sanitarium-beige concrete, and a retro Liquor sign now beckons all my late-night bad decisions into a separate but adjacent store. Yep, it's shiny and new. But just how different IS it? I'm not sure the new floorplan actually limits contact with the habitual (and occasional) alcoholics, but it does condense the clientele into somewhat separate categories. The redesign has also claimed some fancy Short North converts, formerly too chic to shop in their own neighborhood. While it's great for local pride and looks a damn sight better, the one drawback may be the foot traffic - it can get pretty packed and services like the deli counter are often slow. The produce and deli selections have been expanded and improved, a floral department added, and the volume and variety of organic and natural foods has grown. A wine and cheese area boasts tempting options, including a make-your-own six pack beer-fridge that I'll definitely be exploring. But for me, the fresh Sushi bar is the standout. Freshly rolled, affordable, tastes amazing? Yes please! Factor in the cozy new seating area, the free wi-fi, and the fully stocked liquor store, and you've got my new answer to everything - Let's go to Kroger's. read more

This store has always been a bit of a let down, not terribly well stocked and they never have enough people working to serve the customers. They've now taken this to the next level and aren't even hiding this fact, going entirely to a self-checkout model. Self-checkout is great when you have a few things, but we've been stuck more than once having to self-check a cart-full of groceries (we did it once, walked away a second time). There's a reason stores have people to do this for you, quicker and more efficient. Plus, a quick chat with a smiling face is always nice. A company of this size has the resources to do this the right way, but apparently they've made the choice to go the easy way. They've apparently gone away from a customer service model, perhaps their new tagline is, "Kroger, you'll figure it out." read more

Awful shopping experience constantly. Take the time to drive to Giant Eagle on Third. Parking lot is too small so you won't be able to find a spot. If you do somehow manage, you'll be approached inside the store by people begging for money. Oh you want to check out now? Kick rocks, either wait in a 30 minute line at the single register they have open out of a possible 16 OR go scan an entire cart of groceries yourself. Oh you want alcohol? Sorry, all of our cashiers are 16 years old and can't scan alcohol or check your ID. You're going to have to wait for the one of-age person on staff to reluctantly shuffle over and scan it for you, and please be sure they won't be in anything resembling a hurry. read more

I live right around the corner from this location and I'm pleased with all of the improvements that have been made. I feel like it closes the gap between the Short North and South Campus. It can get really crowded, avoid shopping here in the late afternoon and early evening. On Thursday night there is FREAKING LOUD live jazz music in the produce section. The band is ok, the experience is odd. They like to finish with a version of the theme song from Star Trek, I like that. If I was a mouse I would have finished this review a lot sooner because they have the best cheese samples ever. Guyere, parmigiano reggiano, Roquefort, I'm going to need some sourdough samples to go with all of this, and maybe one of these little cupcakes. You could skip lunch and just come here. The self-checkout robots are easily confused, be patient with them. The self-checkout humans are nice, they are always busy helping everyone navigate the temperamental system. This grocery store is good, not incredible, but definitely gets the job done. I go there occasionally to grab my on-the-go items but normally shop at Giant Eagle. This is because sometimes I feel like their vegetables and/fruit is not quite as fresh, but I've come to find that I just have to be slightly more choosy here to find the best produce. The rest is great, the deli is fantastic and the employees that work there are so friendly and will give you as many free samples as you want so that you know what your buying. They actually help you find what you like versus convincing you to buy something just to get you to buy something and get out their hair. The other employees are so friendly as well. Every time I'm there someone says hi and asks if I need any help. I really appreciate that and do enjoy coming to this Kroger. The other nice amenity is their "natural and organic" section. I was having a hard time finding non-dairy creamer and then found this section which has an ABUNDANCE of options to choose from. I ended up buying unsweetened, cocunut milk (tell me that's not a very uncommon item) and they had it! I was really pleasantly surprised by this. Over all this place is great. It's in a good location and there's plenty of parking. The employees are really friendly and they have a really wide variety for being a smaller grocer. read more

I can't believe I'm doing this, but here I am adding 1 tiny star to my review of Kro-Ghetto. But it's not without merit. The past two times I've stopped in on my way home from work, I've had very pleasant experiences with employees that work here. Case 1, I was trying to pick up a few ingredients for cupcakes, and I usually stop here because it's so close to home. I mentioned to Matthew B. that I just couldn't find the maraschino cherries! An off-duty employee over heard me and told me he would help me find them. He led me through the entire store and personally made sure I found what I was looking for. Case 2, I needed to buy some last minute Thanksgiving Day food before preparing my big meal. I saw wheels of brie cheese and thought that with with some crackers and apples it would make for a perfect Thanksgiving Dinner appetizer. No price tag! So I asked a nearby employee and he told me to "wait right there" while he found out for me. Less then a minute later he returned with a price, and then proceeded to flirt with me. Okay, so maybe this star is half based on flattery, but flattery will get you everywhere my dear! read more

This is a review for the NEW Short North Kroger, just opened at 1350 North High Street. Wow, this is an improvement from the old Kroger on the same lot. It's like the Kroger Company just now realized that residents of the Short North own refrigerators! They now want to sell us food! The store is big, clean, roomy, and pleasant. The produce section is three times the size of the old one. The shelves boast multiple brands of the same foods. Wow, it's like a whole new world. It's colorful! The employees are smiling! The olive bar says "Sampling is encouraged"! I could hardly believe my eyes. Spend five minutes in here and all your bad memories of the previous Kroger will fade away like a bad dream. They have their beer section right next to the front door! What more could a girl want? read more

Since the remodel, this Kroger's become my go-to for groceries. Previously, I'd made trips to the old Kroghetto if I didn't want to take the time to go up to Giant Eagle in Clintonville, but no more. The brand new shiny Kroger has me walking to the store now, mostly because it's so close and the parking lot is an absolute nightmare to get through. The produce no longer has flies living in it, and there's actually a selection of organic fruits and vegetables. I'd like to see more locally-sourced produce, but we can't have everything we want. I also really like the big windows that look out to the parking lot and High Street. The only real downside to this store is that the aisles are very narrow and shopping here around 5-7pm is almost Walmart-like in its capacity to irritate me. It's absolutely packed around that time of day. read more

This is by far the closest supermarket to where my apartment is, and yet it's the one I shop at the least. It's not that it's completely horrible, really, it's just not all that good. It never seems all that clean, despite not being open 24 hours. The Giant Eagle on High Street always seems fairly well kept while remaining open at all hours, day or night- but oh well. In the end, this is still a functioning store. Well, mostly. To be honest I've had multiple bad experiences buying meat from the in-store butcher section. On one memorable occasion the ground beef we had purchased turned out to have a green underside that stank of the morgue, so we exchanged it, only to find the same problem with our replacement product. Disheartened and just a little paranoid, we gave up and ordered pizza. "Cook it real well." Lesson firmly learned. Still, there's other things to eat besides meat. I would recommend the self-scan lines, though: the computers are way friendlier than the usual cashiers here. read more

I think the negative tone in the reviews for this Kroger is unfair. I do most of my grocery shopping here, and it's totally fine. The prices are much better than Giant Eagle. The selection isn't expansive, but it is sufficient: the store is not gigantic. Their produce (including organic) is good, and they have organic milk, yogurt, and kefir. There's a Fifth Third ATM, DVDPlay kiosk (similar to Redbox), and Coinstar. The pharmacy carries seasonal flu shots, and I believe the Customer Service counter can do bill pay for various utilities. There are a couple self-checkout lanes, and the place get very crowded in the early evening. The staff has always been pleasant. The only negative is that there really isn't a flower department: just a few bouquets. Some of the reviews have mentioned poor meat, and I can't speak to that. I honestly believe a lot of the negativity about this Kroger has to do with classism and/or other prejudice. read more

The area around Kro-Ghetto has kinda been cleaned up the past few years, but that doesn't make me feel any safer. I came here at 7:30AM to buy a 30-day COTA bus pass because they said over the phone they only had 3 in stock late in the previous night. I asked an employee walking by if the customer service desk was open. Without stopping her walk or asking me what was going on, she abruptly said, "No" as she kept walking away from me. She could not have been more dismissive or given less fucks about customer service. I walked to a different area of the store and asked an employee where I could buy a bus pass. She responded at the customer service desk. I told her the customer service desk wasn't open yet, and she said I should talk to the attendant at the self-checkout. I went to self-checkout... Predictably, there was no employee in this area. I managed to stop an employee passing by and asked him how to buy a bus pass since the customer service desk was closed. He was the one to tell me that the ONLY way to buy one is at the customer service desk, but the customer service desk doesn't open until 8. By the way, this information is not posted on the Kroger website or the page detailing this location. Why I couldn't have been asked what my issue was and given this information by one of the first two employees I interacted with is beyond me. I guess that's what happens when a business is staffed with mostly college students who don't know about or have any experience providing customer service. It's also ridiculous that this Kroger almost never has COTA passes, as they didn't have them in stock the last two times I inquired about them. read more
