Stopped in to pick up a couple of red potatoes and a couple of white potatoes. They don't sell them. Only giant bags of potato's and none by the pound. Needed a head of cabbage and they only had small softball size heads that were brown and dirty. I asked it they had any fresh cabbage and the produce guy went to the back and brought out a head of Napa cabbage. Not what I needed. Skipped all the rest of the produce on my list. Went to meat dept to pick up a whole ham. They had none. Wanted a nice rib roast. They had none. This store is a glorified 7-11. Poor produce and the tiniest beef selection anywhere (unless you want beef processed somewhere else and sealed in plastic that looks industrial! Wegmans here I come!! read more

This is a fairly small low-rent store (basically a marginal Food Lion - they are commonly owned) in a fairly marginal suburb of Burke. Like other big chains if you navigate the app for digital coupons and buy 5 items when you need 1, you can get a decent price. Sadly, the Walmart across the street is a "Unsuperstore," so you won't get good produce either place. Most annoyingly, trying to get past the group raising money outside is an effort, but then you'll be asked at self-checkout and maybe even confronted by an employee to give to a charity you may, or may not, have heard of. We give to charity, we don't come to the grocery store to do it. If Giant wants to give to charity, they area multibillion dollar company. If you can manage the drive to Harris Teeter, you'll regain some humanity. read more

Giant occasionally has some really good deals. Even more so if you know how to time the beef and poultry sections for managers specials. Also they still accept coupons, and also you don't need your own card to save additional money. Whoever came up with store "VIP cards" was a genius, but I'm not carrying those with me. They have option forgot card at checkout. A lot are now self checkout. This seems to save time. Is Giant the cheapest? Nope as Aldi, Lidl, and Walmart will beat them. Yet for the most part it has reasonable options. I do wish they'd bring back the prepackaged chicken and vegetables, that allowed Neanderthals the ability to cook easier. Giant does not have even ONE can of vegetarian chili. I guess I don't need to shop there anymore and will take my business to someone who recognizes that a grocery store should carry at least one variety of canned vegetarian chili. read more

When there is a larger, nicer Giant nearby, who really wants to go to the "ugly stepsister" if you will? Not that many people because it was very slow here on a weekend morning. The store was darker and less modern than the Kings Park location. The floors seemed dirty, which is the worst at a grocery store. One visit here and I'm done-Kings Park it is from now on! read more

My first review of a grocery store. Not my regular Giant Foods, but I was at the NFCU branch and went into Giant to pick up a few things. Spacious and bright and easy to find what I was looking for (bananas, cold-cuts, and on sale soda {my bad habit}); parking in the outside lot (shared by all stores in the strip) is spaced well and in good repair. What can I say besides it is a regular grocery store. Nothing fancy.... only two stars because I really don't like the layout. It just isn't a logical flow for me. The lighting is also way to dim and can be depressing. I do like the produce section but again, it is way too dimly lit. Employees are friendly but hard to find when you need help. Their self checkout lanes went through some sort of update. I can't scan one item and put it down before the machine yells to put the item in the bagging area. If you take 2 seconds too long, the machine locks up and an employee has to enter their code. It's very slow now and it defeats the purpose of self checkout. I don't care if it has to do with theft, I didn't steal anything. Why am I being punished. Coupled with the fact that I get asked for money or to buy groceries for beggars INSIDE the store every time I go now, it's not a place I want to go anymore. Safeway is cheaper and closer. I used to go to giant since I was familiar with it, but now prices are sky high and the experience is terrible. Not going here anymore. read more

"My" local Giant, at the corner of Burke and Burke Lane Rd closed and I'm trying to find my new place in the grocery shopping world. Even though this is part of the same chain it just doesn't hit the mark. It's too big, the parking lot is too busy and it's one of those stores where there's just too much choice. Seriously, it's humoungous and yet still feels close and cramped. The staff is friendly and the store is clean but if I can't have my store back then I want a grocery store to Wow me -- like a Wegmans with samples and demonstrations. The only reason why I keep shopping here is because the store is less than a mile from where I live, I could walk there if I wanted to. But the store is usually gross. The floors around the produce section are usually covered with dirt, fallen down fruits etc. You ALWAYS have to check the expiration date on EVERYTHING because I have found yogurt on the shelves that were several days old. I've accidentally come home with bread or produce that was already moldy. I have contacted Giant on Facebook and they said they would have a talk with the store but that didn't seem to have happened. I am seriously considering finding another store even if it will be less convenient for me. The layout of this store doesn't make sense. You have your bakery stuff in one end and the bread in the opposite direction. They really want you to walk past every single thing on the way. I really hope they update to the new Giant layout soon that is much more convenient. AND PLEASE GET RID OF THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE ASKING ME FOR MONEY EVERY DAMN DAY! If I want to donate to charity I do research about them and then send them money directly. I am not going to donate to every single freaking charity outside the Giant store. This is my local Giant. I don't go here often. I'd say it is a typical Giant. The store is clean, well maintained and stocked. The staff is generally pleasant and helpful. The staff at the deli counter is hit and miss. Many are friendly and helpful and some not so. read more

This Giant is one that i can always count on. The one closer to where i live is unreliable so i just make the extra 10 minute commute to get to this very one. I don't normally buy my groceries from Giant, but i buy things like milk, eggs, etc. (The norm) but it can get a lot more pricey than Costco. Giant is pretty close to home and the employees are never unfriendly. read more

Another fail for Giant! Filled out their online form to get a vaccine, which took 20 mins. Got an email with my appointment details. Ok great! A little while later, I get a call from Giant saying they don't have the vaccine so "try back in a few weeks"! Thanks Giant for wasting 20+ minutes if my time! I grew up around here and this was the closest grocery store. As of lately they have drastically expanded their hours (they are open to at least midnight if not 24 hrs, check w/ the store). I have nothing bad to say about this place and the fact they stayed open during all the snow we got here over December and January really helped me out. Just wanted to say thank you to all those employees who worked through the snow to ensure people had a place to get groceries. I also like what Giant has done with the store, it has been remodeled to match the layout of other grocery stores like Wegman's and Safeway. However, I have found this particular Giant to have superior produce to the two Safeway's nearby. read more

This is my regular grocery store and while I am never that impressed today it hit a new low. You would think that on Friday a store would be stocked, clean and ready to go for the weekend... not "my Giant"! This store was dirty, unstocked and provides zero customer service as well. The produce department was filthy and what little they had was rotting and yellow. At the meat counter I sat almost 5 minutes, ringing the bell before someone decided to help me. The management was nowhere to be seen. As I was leaving the store I stopped by Customer Service once again and asked to speak to a manager. Finally "Randy" appeared and I voiced my complaints. He was apologetic but not overly so. Unfortunately I don't expect things to improve much. I guess Whole Foods, even though it is out of my way, will become my "go to" store from now on!!! read more

I was goo-goo-ga-ga when I went to this store. It is large, well stocked, with an incredible fruits, greens and vegetable selection, and almost a little United Nations in ethnic offerings. I went in there and stayed for almost an hour. The new Giant Scan guns are awesome. You literally check yourself out as you're shopping, and the scanner keeps a tally of the number and subtotal as you shop. I'm a convert..... read more

Not a review of the store exactly, but how is it that neither the local store, nor that corporate store (via their "contact me" email address) can tell me where they send the plastic bags (from their customer recycling bin) out for recycling? The local stores apparently don't know (other than that they go from the local store to the warehouse) and an email to the "contact me" email address on Giant's website won't respond. I'm not necessarily questioning that they get recycled (or, at least I wasn't), but want to make an informed decision about where I choose to recycle plastic bags. Whenever I happen to stop by another Giant other than this one, I always regret it. This is by far the best Giant in the area compared to the one in University Mall, Old Keene Mill or Burke Rd. It's clean, fruits and vegts are always "FRESH", it's organized, always well stocked and most of all self scanners! I'm always in and out with the quickness bc of the self scan. I haven't seen them in any of the other Giants. I have my 4 year old scan everything as I drop it in bags, major convenience and plus to use this Giant especially with kids in tow. read more

Everything is in weird aisles (tortillas/wraps are literally in 5 different places throughout the store and took me 4 employees to ask and 10minutes. The check out is forever in the afternoon, even with short lines because they only have 1 register and the rest is self check out. The Store in Burke Center, and maybe others, has changed the self check out machines to ring up items twice. In the last two occasions to this store it has happened to me. The first time I didn't catch it until I was putting the stuff away and notice that two items that I had one of were on the bill twice. Today it happened again in the store. The attendant corrected the bill, but blamed me for not moving the item fast enough. Totally unsatisfactory. Wonder how much Giant is making off of there unsuspecting customers with this ploy. Very rude workers there. I asked a question about an item and their response was a "NO" and immediately walked away from me and just left me hanging just standing there. I walked around and found the item while looking for alternatives. I left the store and went to a different grocery to buy my item. I'm glad there's automated lanes but even that won't make me come back to this place to buy my items. read more

This store has many issues. Though the produce quality has improved over the last year or so, it is still very subpar compared to other stores. Dairy items often have past due sell by dates and the overall grocery selection has diminished. The good news is I have seen an increase in organic items, but the terrible produce means I only come here for convenience and in desperation. Additionally the pharmacy seems to be regularly out of the medications I need and the staff unfriendly. Overall I would go elsewhere. read more

Very disappointed with their service. The customer service is sub-standard. After paying cash at the self checkout, the machine jammed and the manager on duty refused to credit me the money I put in. I had to wait 20 minutes while they fiddled with the machine and he wasn't able to fix the issue. They didn't apologize for wasting my time or for the technical issues. They wouldn't let me take the groceries I paid for. He then told me to come back tomorrow for my money. I won't be going back. read more

This Giant is great, especially since the remodeling. They have the newfangled self-scanners that makes you feel like you're registering for gifts for your wedding only you're paying for the items. It makes grocery shopping slightly more cumbersome (we were scanning and bagging groceries at the same time) but playing with the little scan gun makes grocery shopping a bit more fun. read more

I just went in to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. I have a health issue that (for the moment) necessitates Medicaid coverage, and the pharmacist was incredibly rude about it. When I gave her my card, she said, "I'm not sure why you're giving me this", and basically made an embarrassing stink about it, in front of a line of customers. I'm switching to another pharmacy that has more respect for its customers. read more

I go to this Giant as I live across the street from them. I only go there in emergencies and to the pharmacy. Elizabeth in the pharmacy is an angel. She always has a smile and is a go to person. If all the customer service people there were like her. I might stop shopping at Wegmans and go back to Giant. I do find most of the pharmacy staff terrific. Elizabeth is a standout. read more

I have been to many Giant stores in the area over the past four months... kind of difficult not to as they are on every street corner. I really like this location though. It stands out. It was clean, well organized, had a great selection of cheese, and polite customer service. I have been in other locations where service was not so good. The produce also looked fresh. I do think Giant has some giant prices on certain items but all in all, some things I get here I can't find other places. Smoked Gouda with bacon for example! That being said, this is not the closest location to my house, but it is the location I will drive to if I need to hit up a Giant. read more

Convenience is a big factor here, and I love having this Giant right in my vicinity. Ever since they did the upgrades to it a couple years back, this is the Giant to go to. Usually find just about everything that I need or want. Good bakery, Deli, cheese selection, etc. I stick with four stars because this is not Whole Foods or Wegman's but this Giant can fulfill your needs and sets the bar for other Giants in the area. read more

Consistently substandard. I've been shopping at this giant since 1997 (why, you might ask, I just don't know other than It's the local grocery store and I get gas points.) Customer service is indifferent. Pricing is not particularly competitive. There are many items that I have purchased over a period of time that they no longer carry. When I have inquired as to getting the item back I'm often brushed off or told "there's nothing I can do." They consistently, over a long period of time, have one less cashier available than the demand requires. Sale prices often do not ring up correctly at check out. On more than a few occasions I have been infuriated with the lack of proper attention and enthusiasm to solve what should be very simple pricing mistakes. I cannot recommend anyone shop at this giant food. read more

I mainly have positive experiences here and I basically fund its operation since I'm always shopping here! I like it that most of the employees can speak English unlike Safeway and Walmart! While the store is decent, not much can be said about the customer service. The employees here have pretentious attitudes and behave as if any question to them is bother. The customer service in the self check out lines are the worst! They bag your groceries depending on what you look like. or they stand around and talk right behind the self check out stations and pretend they don't see customers who need their groceries bagged. I don't have a problem bagging 5 items myself. But if you're standing around talking, there's absolutely no reason the store EMPLOYEE shouldn't find something to do to busy themselves. Highly angered as this is probably the 50th time they refuse to bag my groceries. From now on I'm shopping at Wegmans. This is the grocery store that time forgot. Probably a great store if you happen to live in the third world but in a wealthy area such as Fairfax County no way. You will find dairy, meat, and vegetables consistently past the sell by date. Matter of fact you will find food that is off gray meat, moldy cheese, and dried up vegetables are common. The service is also atrocious. For example, the old cranky beared pharmacist manager is the absolute worst. If I could give this giant a "0" or call the health department on it I would for the numerous poisonings it has likely done over the past decade. This place is atrocious and probably should be razed.
