They don't care about the customers. I complained to HT HQ about a manager who was very rude to me for no reason. I had never even seen this person before, much less had a conversation with her. HQ said they'd talk to the store manager and get back to me. No one ever got back to me. I guess harassment of the customers is applauded there! If they thought that I had done something wrong, or thought that I was someone else who had, they should have told me, instead of being so cruel! Never again will I walk into that HT! A pretty standard Harris Teeter... although I will say the produce selection (which I was mainly shopping) was a bit sparse. I stopped in to get a few things including grapes for the New Years Eve grape tradition and they were out of green grapes. Luckily they had red grapes.. or I would have absolutely no luck in the New Year. Also, the one thing that's different about this Harris Teeter is that there is only one entrance and exit. I don't know if I've ever been a grocery store (outside of those on the bottom of apartment buildings) that only have 1 entrance and exit on one side of the store. Little detail, doesn't really matter. I just thought it was odd. This Harris Teeter is in a large shopping center with a bunch of other restaurants, cafes, Starbucks, etc. One funny thing happened: I was in the self checkout, and I had leftovers from the cafe I was just at, and I put it on the scale by accident and it thought I was stealing my leftovers from the cafe. And it started playing this little video of me putting my box of leftovers on the scale like I was stealing them and called for an attendant to come over lol. I honestly thought it was hysterical. I have been using the HT Pharmacy for over a decade. There was always an older lady behind the counter. She was FANTASTIC! If I was surprised by the price of my Rx - she always found a way to lessen the price/make it better somehow. She left about a year ago. Since then - HORRIBLE service. When a new Rx was presented to them they told me it was going to be $300/month. WAY too expensive. Their response, "Just charge it". When I asked to have my Rx's renewed the chipper little girl told me that they needed to be renewed by the Dr. I said, "OK". She then told me to call them. Wait, what!? Why am I doing your job? The Teet, as we like to call it in my fam. I will go here only for certain items & because the ABC store near this location alway has my Pastis, lol. I do like this store & they recently did a mini makeover to the layout so it has a nice sparkling appeal. This particular trip there was nary a shopping basket in sight & I was only getting a few things. The produce section, deli, bread, bakery and meat counters are all very nice & they have a decent selection. Quality seems to be fresh & good. Oh, and lets not forget the wonderland of the beer & wine aisle! Quite a lovely variety if I do say so myself. My negatives with The Teet is that they are priced higher than most of the other local grocery stores to the point where I now circle back to the fact that I only go here for certain items coupled with the Pastis next door. The sore has a sterile vibe and the employees are robotic except for the nice lady at the deli counter & wish I knew her name to give credit where is due. Also, the self check-out is always a clusterquack (you know what I mean) with constant lines & only one robotic employee to assit with the registers. It works here and there. One thing HT does well is quick lunch meals. They won't be the cheapest, but are good for those in a hurry. Depending on sales you might catch a deal. Yet be wary. More often than not, you'll pay more than you intended to. There are cheaper competitors, that offer the same for less. Customer service here is very good. Been going to this Harris Teeter since I was a teenager. There has been changes around the shopping center, but Harris Teeter still stands as a great grocery store. They have great deals overall and if you have a VIC card, it gets you additional discounts. The customer service and the quality of the products at Harris Teeter is always great. Worst experience at Harris Teeter ever! We normally shop here as regular customers and Instacart shoppers as well as other Harris teeter locations. What happened tonight changed our perspective of this store. We were shopping for Instacart tonight and had a prepaid barcode which the cashier scanned before scanning all the items. The cashier named Jeni (who has been serving Harris teeter since 2021, as per her name tag) showed a lack of knowledge on how to properly checkout an Instacart shopper. After she scanned all the items, she asked for a form of payment for which we had already advised her was the barcode she scanned in the beginning and that should have taken care of the payment as well. She kept asking for two different bar codes to scan as well as to swipe a card. We had to keep explaining to her that the form of payment was only barcode she scanned because it was an online order that was already prepaid. She then proceeded to show unprofessional behavior by escalating the situation and suspending the whole order. She wanted to restart the transaction by rescanning the code which doesn't work twice. She started arguing and started getting hysterical. She finally called another employee to come and review what she had done. This employee named Yeme noticed right away that her colleague didn't start the transaction correctly. She showed knowledge and respect towards the situation. We kept patiently waiting in silence while Jeni kept trying to finalize the transaction the wrong way. As she stood in front of us she kept mumbling things under her breath while we were trying to contact Instacart customer service so they could reactivate the code. Jeni left us without telling us where she was going and then Ms. Yeme got called to help another customer in the self checkout. Jeni then appeared with some man that didn't introduce himself. He came with an angry temper and she then proceeded to tell him how she didn't want to let us walk away with stuff that we hadn't paid for (Keep in mind we weren't shopping for ourselves, we were shopping for Instacart and at no point we wanted to walk away with anything. She made it sound like we wanted to steal things). He then told her that this was the computer that "always" gets frozen and that she will have to use another computer until we fix our issue. I proceeded to ask to speak to a manager because she was already wasting our time. Then she said he is the manager, Menur. The manager didn't try to help us or Jeni who clearly had no idea what she was doing. The manager told Jeni she had to put everything to the side until we could pay for the stuff. Jeni grabbed the cart and told us "you're going to have to reshop for everything" while pulling the cart away, to which we asked her to not put things back because we were just waiting for IT to reactivate the bar code. The manager rudely told us we had to pay for the items or we couldn't leave and then walked away straight to his office. Jeni kept walking away and mumbling things about the situation trying to get us to react. She kept talking behind us to other employees while there were other customers around. This was very unprofessional of her to treat her customers this way. We finally got the barcode reactivated and went back to ask for help. Jeni refused to help us and sent Yeme to help us. We were honestly happy Yeme came to help us instead. The whole transaction went very smoothly with her. She was very kind and professional the whole time she tried to assist Jeni and also when she checked us out. I noticed Ms. Yeme has been serving Harris teeter since 2022... She has less time working there than Jeni yet she was more knowledgeable and showed leadership skills when she tried to apologize for the whole situation even though it wasn't her fault. She showed patience, respect, and compassion. She clearly tried to put Harris Teeter in good standing. Then, towards the end of the transaction, Jeni tried to apologize for what happened. I then told her she should have handled it differently and should have asked for help from the begining. She then said that we were "nasty" and we could have been a little nicer ourselves. I think we were nice as we patiently waited in silence. I hope there is some corrective action and retraining to the cashier Jeni, as well as the manager in shift, Menur. I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, especially Instacart shoppers because this takes time out of their earnings. This should have taken no more than 20 minutes but we were stuck there over 40 minutes because of Jeni's ineptitude. The only reason I'm giving this post one star is because of Ms. Yeme, she deserves a five start rating for her excellent customer service. The whole store situation with the manager and Jeni deserves a zero star rating. FYI, this happened tonight April 12th, 2023 at around 9:15-30pm. read more

Good store. Not my favorite Harris Teeter but so far better than any Giant that it is getting 4* only in c0omparison to my favorite Harris Teeter. If I compared this store to my 3 local Giants, this Harris Teeter would get 12 stars! HT has a quirky slection with great choices in seafood, meats, parts of grocery and dairy. Their deli looks good but I have only had one sushi item and it was good. The service here is not as good as my favorite HT. But this is still a very nice shop and thre are several retaurants right in the same center plus a VABC store. read more

5 stars for the super friendly staff at this store. I went into the store looking for a few items. Since this is during the Covid-19 outbreak, several items that I was looking for were no available. I was able to find most of what I need. The store was clean and the items were where they were supposed to be. Even though I went on a Sunday morning, the store was not that busy so it's great to keep my social distance. The employees that I encountered here were super friendly. Prices consistently ring up higher than what is advertised on the shelf with the VIC card. Without fail, if I pick up 3-5 items on sale, 1-2 of them will ring up at regular price. I put up with it because the location of the store is convenient, but this problem has gotten worse over time. The attendants and cashiers used to do a quick override to fix the price difference which is annoying in itself, but now they will argue with you instead of doing a price check with their own eyes and instead try to argue with you until you give up -- unacceptable. On top of the price issue, I have been sold expired food here before. Always check the dates of perishables at this HT location. read more

This Harris teeter location is really close to my house so I always go there to buy last minute grocery or I am too lazy to drive to trader joes. It's usually well maintained, clean for the most part. However, I am giving this 2 star because every time I go to the store, wanting to buy fresh produce, there is something that's always moldy. I should probably have taken a picture, send it to the department of health because I am pretty sure selling moldy fruits and vegetables is super unsafe. The other day, I needed to buy cherry tomatoes- there were some on sale or had a deal, went to look at them, mold growing all over it. It's pretty disgusting. The avocados are always over riped and the produces don't look as fresh compared to other Harris teeter locations or trader joes. I would rate the grocery store higher because I am usually satisfied with their other fresh food or grocery items. But it's disappointing how this location don't seem to care what they sell to people. read more

Why do I come to this store? I must be a very lazy man who, to obtain convenience, rationalizes reality to a bizarro world. "Maybe when I go this time on the way home from work, they will have just received a delivery of fresh produce and it will make me happy." I swear, I've never seen such consistently bad produce-from the rubbery cucumbers to the rotten yellow bag of lettuce. At least at Giant, their white tomatoes will eventually ripen to a red flavorless color. This produce must already be rotten by the time they get it. Perhaps they get the discounted rejects from the other super markets. Behold the picture I took of the delicious tomato on display. This is one step beyond the usual wrinkled, sad tomatoes. Where is the quality control? Is there quality control? Maybe the next time I want a tomato, I should try the dumpster at the Safeway. Please note that the picture of the rotten tomato was removed by Yelp. The reason being that is didn't represent the business. I beg to differ. I am warming up to this brand which is funny since I used to live a block away from one in Arlington but would walk to the Trader Joe's in Clarendon. This location is 24 hours and well stocked and well spaced. I think I used to stay away from this brand because of pricing and I do still feel their cheese is overpriced compared to Trader Joe's. They have a lot of beer and wine selections but also have good looking fruits and veggies. This is a place where I get a lot of good flavor selection for my favorite yogurt brand and get good ingredients for some of cooking endeavors. I think the checkout isles are oddly set up. This Harris Teeter is two minutes from my house and was my regular grocery store for more than a decade. However, the quality has declined so much that I would rather drive an extra five minutes to get to another grocery store. Some of the issues include: 1. Inferior produce - green bananas, most berry containers have at least one moldy item...just overall low quality and variety. 2. Out-of-stock items- this is a CONSTANT issue and has gotten considerably worse lately. A new trick they've starting employing so that the shelves don't appear empty is stocking the wrong item in the area where the out-of-stock item usually is. I was there today to get a CPK Four Cheese pizza. They had the CPK margherita pizza stocked in four different areas in the freezer to cover up the fact that they were out of three types of CPK pizza, including the four cheese. 3. Long lines - don't even bother going here after work! Ridiculous lines and no express lanes. And since there is no limit on the number of items one can take to self-checkout, you have people with overflowing carts taking forever to check out. With so many grocery stores in close proximity (Aldi, Giant, Safeway, Trader Joe's), you would think Harris Teeter would be doing more to stay competitive, but you would be wrong. read more

This is my local grocery store, as I live very close by. I have grown up shopping at Harris Teeters and was delighted to find my new home near to one. However, it's not the premium grocery experience that I have become accustomed to at other HTs, both in NOVA and beyond. The store is better than a Giant, but not much. At least this location is always clean, but there are stock issues -- very often I am frustrated because I'm unable to purchase a fairly basic item. There never seems to be enough cashiers working so 95% of the time, I'm in the self checkout line -- which is fine, except that it's full of people with giant carts full of groceries due to the lack of cashier lanes, and this slows down things even more. I will say that there are a couple friendly staff members, an older gentleman named John stands out. He always has a joke and a friendly greeting for everyone, and easily took care of an issue I had at the customer service counter. The majority of the staff do their best to avoid eye contact with customers. Further, the shopping center that this is in, Barcroft Plaza, is kind of a dump. There's been a lot of rehabbing over the past year, and I hope the new businesses that have moved in plus the facelift make this center nicer. read more

I like their bakery section and always order cupcakes there for occasions. Meat and seafood department is pretty fresh and up to par. I just wished they'd staff more people during rush hour times, self-check out is tedious, and there's only 3 open registers of people working! Most of the time the staff members are always pleasant. When exiting your vehicle, you're greeted with recordings of screeching, dying birds. Its horrible. In their effort to prevent nesting, they have opted to terrify old ladies and small children. If you're ill and need someone to pick up a prescription for you, they will not take your payment over the phone. Considering the high price of medication and the necessity of having others pick up, this is an absurd policy. However, the employees are wonderful. The exception would be the pharmacy, where they usually seem overworked and stressed but are trying their best. The stock is unreliable and high-priced. The layout of the plaza has cars coming from too many directions that make it nerve-wracking to try and park. All in all, I dislike this place. On Saturday February 4th, 2023, I stopped by this particular Harris Teeter because it's located so close to the Navy Federal Credit Union that I bank at. Everything went well until it came time for me to check out. I approached a cashier's line and noticed that she was prepping her paper bags for customers that want their bags doubled, no problem. I waited patiently but what got me was that when the cashier turned around and saw me, she immediately rolled her eyes, continued doubling her last 2 bags and then she reached for my cart in order to begin scanning my items. Express lane shopping has been extremely helpful over the past year! I absolutely love how my personal shopper will carefully select substitutions when something I really need is out of stock. I also appreciate that my bags come pre-separated into Frozen, refrigerated and non-perishable (this always makes unpacking so much easier!). Being able to add items to my order until 8pm the night before has really come in handy more then a few times! I have had a few mix ups when I order sandwiches online from their website, but when I make it to the store to pick up the food and it isn't ready, the staff are always extremely helpful in quickly preparing my order (in spite of not having received the online order). Don't go to this particular harris tester if you have kids or expect any kind of human interaction. No express check out and the check out lanes are so poorly designed it's impossible to know if you are standing in the right lane. Very unorganized. Self check out goes into wine and beer lane. No concept of customer service here. Multiple things went wrong on my visit. The bakery was not staffed so I had to wait a long time to get someone to help me. I indicated to multiple staff nearby staff member I need assistance but nobody seems to care. Finally I asked somebody in the staff very directly if they could page somebody to come help. She muttered something under her breath and then went to meet somebody. Went to buy an ice cream cake and turned into a fiasco and there were so many people in the store that could have at several moments made this into a positive shopping experience for us but all we got was multiple experiences with unhelpful careless human less staff that just seemed they were counting seconds until they could clock out.
