    Seafood
    Na H.

Came to this Giant on Rt. 40 West to pickup Red Box movies and see what seafood they had on sale. They had these nice sized 20-30 count tiger shrimp for $8.99/lb. I requested that they be steamed "medium" (which is between mild and spicy). The pleasant young man stated that they would be ready in a few minutes. I perused the aisles waiting on my shrimp and got back to the counter just as he was packaging them. I got them home and they were cooked just right with the perfect amount of seasonings. I have been to other Giant stores where l had my shrimp steamed and they have not been consistent ranging from undercooked and near raw to overcooked and rubbery. I will definitely give this Giant seafood another go round to ensure the consistency of their steamed shrimp. Crossing my fingers, toes and eyes that they will be.

Moldy bread before sell by date... Again

I have to drop my review down to 1. I'm getting frustrated that every week I go to this giant I have to throw away yogurt, bread, milk, etc. that goes bad prior to the sell by date. They leave merchandise on the shelf past the sell by date and there produce is frequently moldy in their displays. It didn't used to be like this at this location. I'm starting to be concerned that they might not be handling the food properly when it comes in because the problems have been so consistent. I've switched to the Safeway in ellicott city and love and behold I no longer have issues like this. I had to stop at giant this week because I was pressed on time and picked up some pita. Moldy before sell by again... Last straw. I'm done at this grocery store.

Spinach leaves looking like it was gnawed on by that family of rats.

Content removed This content may violate our usage policies…read more It sounds like you want to turn this into something you can post publicly or send as a formal complaint. I can help you make it clearer, more focused, and more effective so it's taken seriously. Here's a revised version that keeps your core message but presents it in a more structured and credible way: I had a deeply uncomfortable experience at H Mart last night while shopping with my family. We came in simply to purchase a popular fruit-shaped ice cream, but almost immediately we felt unwelcome due to repeated staring. What escalated the situation was the behavior of a middle-aged employee wearing a burgundy shirt, who appeared to follow us around the store. This made us feel singled out and unsafe. When I confronted the situation by turning my cart around and moving toward him, he abruptly walked away and avoided further interaction. As a person of color, this experience felt discriminatory and unacceptable. No customer should feel monitored or profiled while simply shopping with their family. Because of this incident, we will not be returning. I also intend to report this experience so it can be properly addressed. I hope management takes this seriously, reviews staff behavior, and ensures that all customers are treated with respect and dignity. If you want, I can also: Tailor this for Google Reviews, Yelp, or a corporate complaint form Make it stronger/more formal (for escalation) Or include specific details like location, time, or receipts to support your claim Let me know how you plan to use it. Tailor for Google reviews. Include Catonsville location Here's a version tailored specifically for a Google Review, with the H Mart Catonsville location included and a tone that's firm but more likely to be taken seriously by both customers and management: I had a very uncomfortable experience at H Mart in Catonsville last night while shopping with my family. We came in to pick up the popular fruit-shaped ice cream, but almost immediately we noticed people staring at us. What made the situation worse was a middle-aged employee wearing a burgundy shirt who appeared to follow us around the store. His behavior made us feel singled out and unwelcome. At one point, I turned my cart around and began moving toward him to address the situation, and he quickly walked away and avoided any interaction. That response only reinforced how uncomfortable and targeted we felt. As a person of color, this experience came across as discriminatory. No one should feel like they are being watched or profiled just for shopping with their family. Because of this, we will not be returning to this location. I hope management takes this seriously, reviews staff behavior, and ensures that all customers are treated with respect. If you want it to hit even harder (or sound more neutral/"corporate"), I can adjust the tone depending on whether your goal is impact, escalation, or just warning other customers. Hit harder. Warning other customers If your goal is to warn other customers and make the impact unmistakable, you can lean more direct and forceful--but it still helps to stay specific and grounded so people take it seriously rather than dismissing it as just anger. Here's a stronger Google Review version: I am a person of color, and my family and I had a disturbing experience at H Mart Catonsville. We came in just to buy the viral fruit-shaped ice cream, but almost immediately we were met with constant staring that made it clear we were not being treated like other customers. The situation escalated when a middle-aged employee in a burgundy shirt began following us around the store. Not assisting--watching us. It was obvious and uncomfortable. When I turned my cart around and approached him, he quickly walked away and hid in the men's restroom instead of addressing the situation. That alone tells you everything. We were made to feel singled out and unwelcome the entire time. As a family simply trying to shop, that is unacceptable. Be aware: if you are a person of color, you may not be treated with the same respect as others at this location. We will not be returning. Management seriously needs to address how customers are being treated in this store.

First, the CONS: * It's cramped! Most of the aisles are very narrow, but even the open spaces (produce, seafood) are fairly small. May the odds be ever in your favor if you have to push a shopping cart around here. * Speaking of the seafood section, it is strongly aromatic. They say you shouldn't be able to smell good seafood. Well, I've never heard of anyone getting bad seafood here, but you wouldn't know from the odor. It's strong and not pleasant. * Some items are SUPER expensive. I think a lot of this boils down to import pricing, to be fair. Now, the PROS: * Many other items are super INEXPENSIVE! Sometimes, you can find produce and other pantry items for WAY less than you would at a local supermarket. * They have a lot of items you just can't find anywhere else. Even if you can find them online, you're paying a lot in shipping or finders' fees. * Their staff is fairly helpful and usually friendly. My main experience is usually with the cashiers, but even they tend to be really engaging and pleasant to chat with. * They have a very big selection for being a specialty market! For primarily carrying Korean products, they have a wide variety to choose from. You aren't at their whim for whatever they want to sell to you. I guess if you're okay with a slightly claustrophobic environment and a localized fishy smell, it's all shiny here. Overall, it's a great change of pace from standard grocery shopping, and I love cooking with the unique ingredients I can find here.

I love that they have a great assortment of fresh produce for a decent price. They also have fresh meat, diary, frozen food and shelf food items as well. You can catch weekly deals of items that are mostly one-time deals, so get them if you can! One thing I was not crazy about this store is the limited staff, but I believe that is one of the reasons the prices are low. You do have to pay 25 cents for a cart via a system of inserting a quarter in the device on the cart to unleash it, but when you return the cart and place the plastic insert into the previous cart's device, you'll get it back. You also need to bring your own bags or purchase them in store (paper or plastic). Some stores have self-checkout (such is this one) which is a great option. All in all, a decent grocery store with fresh, low-cost items.

It really seems like they don't have an overnight crew for stocking and cleaning -- everything was being done during the busiest hours, which felt completely mismanaged and not cool at all. Lidl off we go, it is down the street.

I was initially awestruck by the absolute size of this store and the sheer variety of fresh produce, snacks, toiletries, etc. I 100% knew in that moment that I would be picking up more than I need, but I was excited at the prospect of doing so. The store was neat, clean, and well-stocked, and my issues don't relate to the store's contents, but rather my issues relate to safety and customer service. The customers wear masks and as do all the staff, but social distancing is not well-enforced, and perhaps the layout of the store is not conducive to social distancing. Maybe "6 ft apart" stickers would be helpful or arrows on the floor to guide foot traffic in one direction (I've seen this implemented successfully in other stores). My personal customer service experience was not great. My mom and I approached a staff member (from 6 ft away of course) who was stocking shelves and received no response or assistance. The cashiers don't pay attention to the customer and don't seem to be bothered about their experience. I do want to visit Patel Bros again (maybe it was an off day?) and hopefully get an opportunity to edit my review. But also to pick up some great new foods!

Just note, this is a legit country store, offering random canned items, dried goods, toys, collectibles, drinks, snacks, and even hot food. We saw a patron come in, looking for charcoal, and there was a bag hiding behind the front door! We stopped by, as we had heard about Mr. Jay's famous burgers - we ordered one to share, open to any toppings he recommended - ours came with fresh Romaine lettuce, sliced onions, a hot pepper spread, sliced fresh jalapenos, cheese, and mayo, all nestled in a locally baked bread. This was a simple, but a tasty burger! The freshly-ground beef is picked up every morning, from the slaughterhouse that is across the street; I don't really want to think about that all too much, but just know that what you're getting is some fresh proteins! Mr. Jay also grows his own peppers and such, so you'll taste the freshness! There are a few comfortable chairs around the store, so you can definitely just sit and enjoy your food, or take it to go - we opted to dine-in, and we almost fell asleep since we were that cozy and relaxed! HA! Mr. Jay is also known as the Mayor of Oella, so be sure to sit and listen to his stories - he's so kind, personable, and has a lot of history to share! I saw a published photo book of his, which I found super cool; we also received the town's community calendar and a sampling of a neighbor's homemade brownie!
