the staff are generally pretty good, as long as you get used to some of them treating you differently because you don't look like they do. I experience this all the time, but I am friendly because mama taught me to be. Ambiance is horrid. Not their fault. Do NOT come here at peak hours. It is chaos trying to park. I got my car hit because I turned in from the main traffic lane to one of the parking lanes, and there was a string of cars coming down the wrong way. I had already committed myself and I couldn't back out into oncoming traffic, so I pulled over as tight as I could to the right and just sat. The stupid witch coming the wrong way kept coming with her big SUV or whatever and hit me as she passed. Knocked my mirror all the way in and then rolled down her window to yell at me because I didn't back up to let her go by--mind you, back up INTO ONCOMING traffic. I ordered cooked food (ribs) from their meat section and have been sick for the last two days. It came up almost immediately 1-2 hours after eating them and I'm 1000% sure they served either bad or contaminated food. I would not trust / recommend this location again. read more

Alright, yes it is a grocery store, so what's to review. I'll tell you, the staff, the store that's what! Located on Rte 40 in the same shopping center as that dreadful Wal-Mart, across from the H-Mart and the like. Parking is plentiful. I prefer coming to this Giant as it is brighter, cleaner, and more organized than the Giant that is closer to my home. That and the fact that they generally have more open lines and people available to help you. Yes, I am that person that will drive ten minutes out of my way for better service. I guess I just appreciate it. Now I only come here to buy from the sale papers, or use coupons cause y'all should know by now that I am frugal (*cough* cheap) so I will limit my interactions to sale items. Came to this Giant on Rt. 40 West to pickup Red Box movies and see what seafood they had on sale. They had these nice sized 20-30 count tiger shrimp for $8.99/lb. I requested that they be steamed "medium" (which is between mild and spicy). The pleasant young man stated that they would be ready in a few minutes. I perused the aisles waiting on my shrimp and got back to the counter just as he was packaging them. I got them home and they were cooked just right with the perfect amount of seasonings. I have been to other Giant stores where l had my shrimp steamed and they have not been consistent ranging from undercooked and near raw to overcooked and rubbery. I will definitely give this Giant seafood another go round to ensure the consistency of their steamed shrimp. Crossing my fingers, toes and eyes that they will be. read more

This is my go-to Giant! I actually bypass two Giants just to shop here. I skip the Giant in Glen Burnie near the DMV which would be convenient due to proximity of my job, but it's significantly smaller and offers way less items than this one. I also skip another Giant on Edmondson Rd which is closer to my home. This location here in Catonsville has everything you will not find at the smaller locations, so I do not even waste my time going to the other ones anymore. Plus, it's open 24 hrs. So, if you ever get an urge to make some beef wellington at like 3am, this is your place to grab everything you'll need. I've read older reviews about food not being fresh and I've never had that issue here. Breads, produce, and meats are always fresh! There's an employee here that stands out and his name is Andrew. Every time I come in the store, I always see him interacting with the customers and making sure they are finding everything alright and that they are having a good day. My encounters with him have always been positive as well and usually end with a fist pump. That type of enthusiasm and positivity is rare, especially at a big chain store like Giant. It's another reason why I think people like myself and other customers want to come back. read more

I have to drop my review down to 1. I'm getting frustrated that every week I go to this giant I have to throw away yogurt, bread, milk, etc. that goes bad prior to the sell by date. They leave merchandise on the shelf past the sell by date and there produce is frequently moldy in their displays. It didn't used to be like this at this location. I'm starting to be concerned that they might not be handling the food properly when it comes in because the problems have been so consistent. I've switched to the Safeway in ellicott city and love and behold I no longer have issues like this. I had to stop at giant this week because I was pressed on time and picked up some pita. I went to this Giant's on Wednesday. The inside of the store was fine. Appeared clean and well stocked. Outside in the parking lot some guys were eating from a large container of steamed shrimp. Ok, I eat a LOT of spinach. Always baby spinach & always organic. I often buy the Nature's Promise brand from Giant. But every few months or so they must switch suppliers because the quality goes completely out the window. Tonight my husband picked up a 16 oz package for me ($6.99) so that I could make salads for lunch for the next few days. But when I opened the container I knew it wasn't going to work. ALL of the spinach was wet & slimy and approximately 99% if it looked as though it had been gnawed on by a family of large rats. So now I have to make 2 trips - back to Giant to return this mess, then to Wegman's to get something I actually feel good about eating. I expect to pay a premium for pre-washed organic produce but in return I expect that produce to be edible. Too much to ask? I don't think so! I'm giving 2 stars since the product is good about 72% of the time, but no more than that because of the incredible inconsistency in quality. read more

On Monday, Dec. 1, 2014 at 2205, I went to Giant in Catonsville, MD on the way home from work. I was exchanging an empty five gallon water bottle for another full one. I brought my empty bottle in and left it on the service desk counter as I had been instructed to do since moving here from Virginia earlier in July. I then picked up a full five gallon 30 pound bottle and carried it to the check out line. Here a problem occurred that could not be resolved. The grey haired white female clerk refused to give me credit on the empty bottle deposit and wanted to charge me another deposit fee on the new water bottle. D'oh... Methinks not. A manager on duty was called who was unable to see why I shouldn't be charged another deposit fee and stated I would be charged another deposit EVEN though I had produced an empty water bottle purchased from their store. The end of the story is that I left at 2212 without getting a full bottle of water to replace the empty on one on our water cooler, picking up my empty that I had brought in on the way out. So it seems that Giant in Catonsville, MD must not need my dollars for bottled water. You think? read more

3/23/16---went back here to purchase some groceries yesterday and encountered the same cashier as she was the only one available..... I guess someone spoke with her because I had a large bill as usual and this time she didn't ask me for 75 pieces of ID but I did use my debit card and enter my pin number to make her feel more comfortable :( 11/8/16---I've gone back here several times after this and just used my debit card and pin but the cashiers have been fine, I just haven't gotten back into her line and I now shop at some other supermarkets now too. read more

The last time I went to Giants Supermarket I was surprise about the short lines. I enjoy the fresh fruit and vegetable display. They could have a better deli display. The only thing I don't like at Giants is the employees most are rude and obnoxious especially the pharmacist personnel. read more

Let me start with this. I've been going to this Giant since I moved to Catonsville. I enjoyed shopping here. This is what happened today. After working out, I went to the store to get some organic veggies for a juice this morning I actually had about 10 items, as I started checking out (self service) the lady behind the desk stops everything she was doing and started staring at me, watching every item. So I was like ok.. that must be protocol no problem, next then I notice is the security guard is in the isle watching me (sent over by the way) I could see from that angle. Ok... I say wonder what all the looking is about. As soon as I leave a young 20 something blond lady comes up to check out. Everyone walks away from monitoring, SMH. The lady goes on about doing something else, security goes down the isle. This incident upset my day. I'm 62 years old, a RN, with advance degrees, have no desire to steal... yet I receive no respect only a thought of she looks like she might steal. It was so subtle, I know it would be denied. But it happened. I'm not sure if I'm going back in there. I do hope they read reviews but I doubt it. Shop while Black.. beware. read more

I am a very satisfied customer with your deli department, I am a frequent customer and I have noticed a new employee in the deli department who was very friendly and upbeat. She had a smile on her face and was able to inform me about the deli meats and other sides to compliment what I was already purchasing. She also was very quick with getting everything I needed. I have noticed the change that she makes to the deli and I know it is hard working in customer service but her attitude was amazing and she brightened my day to see that there are still employees that work in customer service and have such a great attitude and pride in there job.
