You need to get the facts straight first before you jump the gun on how friendly Frank was to me because that's simply NOT the case... My ID is 100% valid. Im retired like I told him several times This is what I clearly told Frank a year ago and he said that it was" no issue at all" ..So I ended up coming back to the club a year later to finally join up. He asked me for ID which I showed him, then he started to say oh didn't you come in here a year ago etc, so I said yes I did. He then tells me "oh your ID says retired you can join at the full rate" and "I told you last time that im not giving you the discount we offer ...(that's not true at all ), What he said was that it was NO ISSUE".. He started to examine my ID, hold it up to the light literally about 5 different times ,,,Not sure what that was about...I said Frank, " WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY ID- YOURE EXAMINING IT LIKE ITS A FAKE $100 BILL OR SOMETHING, I said is there an issue?????..and he says " OH NOTHING I WAS JUST LOOKING AT IT. He then continues to say he's not giving me the discount and he told me this last year. I said NO PROBLEM...I was leaving, asked him for my ID back, and he started taking pictures of my ID with his phone... Maybe you can clear that up for me Andrew..what was that about after I said no problem and was clearly leaving the club with my coat on. Why did he start taking pictures of My ID? I mean I could care less that you or him think my ID is not valid, I could care less about any discount, or joining your club..Thats not the point at all.. I just didn't appreciate the way I was treated..PERIOD. Its really as Simple as that..I hope this clears it up for you. My experience was not good.

Before CrossFit I did everything from a regular gym to kick boxing to spinning to a having personal trainer and I either didn't see results, got bored, or didn't develop a connection with the activity or the people. Maxability was different. On day one you are greeted with smiling faces and members going out of their way to introduce themselves and make you feel welcome. I can't stress the community enough. You will make lifelong friends and build lasting relationships that will continue outside of the gym. The coaches are incredibly well trained in every aspect of what they do and whether it's before, during, or after class they are always around helping and developing members. They will push you, but they know how to push you to your personal best, rather than holding you to a standard that doesn't make sense for you. They work with every age group, all levels of fitness, and will tailor any workout to work around an injury, condition, or limitation. The programming is so well thought out and is never monotonous. The facility is spacious, adorned with equipment, and always well maintained. I could go on forever but the point is, this box is like no other. Once you join, you will never want to leave. I don't remember ever feeling excited to workout, until I joined Maxability. I have completely transformed my thoughts and my body and I'm currently in the best shape of my life and every day I look forward to going to the gym. Maxability is unlike any other CrossFit box and I am so grateful to have found a home here.

I used to work out at one of those typical gyms but was bored to death and not challenging myself. I tried a trial month in September of 2018 and have been there ever since. It's never boring because the music is playing and the trainers tell us the exercises and the reps. It is truly no judgment. 20 somethings men and women work out with 50-60 somethings. We partner up and we motivate and support each other. It's an amazing atmosphere. I have lost almost 30 pounds since I joined. I have made so much progress in one month with her that it boggles my mind. Her and Brian Hernandez have been my biggest cheerleaders in my fitness and weight loss journey. Most importantly, they actually listen to feedback and make improvements based on what members say. It's a professional, well-run spot that's worth the membership.

For me, the great thing about this gym was always how close it was to my house. Recently, however,…read morethe facility experienced flooding that caused significant water damage, and the way the situation was handled has been extremely frustrating. Personally, I never received an email explaining how memberships would be handled during the closure, although I know some members did. Most of the updates I received were through social media. We were told we could use nearby locations while they worked on reopening. If you live in the Fort Lee area, you know there aren't many gyms around, and there are even fewer Retro Fitness locations nearby. I ended up driving over 20 minutes just to get to another location. I work out 6-7 times a week, so this became very inconvenient very quickly. While going to other gyms, I kept running into other members and hearing the same rumors--that the owner was waiting for the insurance payout and planning to sell the gym. Because updates were vague and inconsistent, I decided to email for clarification. I will say that the manager, Janee, has always been great--attentive, responsive, and helpful whenever I had questions. The issue seems to be more with ownership and the lack of customer-focused communication. My membership was frozen for a while when the flooding first happened because I was away, and they were helpful with that. However, once I returned and started going to other locations, I realized those gyms were cleaner, had better equipment, and overall provided a better experience. When I heard that the Fort Lee location was planning to reopen on March 11th but with limited machines and reduced space in what is already a small gym, I decided to request a refund for the remaining time on my membership. I paid for my membership in full, and it doesn't seem fair that members are expected to pay for what will essentially be half a gym while repairs continue. I completely understand that flooding is not their fault, and unexpected things happen. However, the lack of clear communication and the refusal to offer reasonable reimbursement options to members who paid upfront feels very customer-unfriendly. It's disappointing because this gym had the potential to be a great neighborhood spot. Unfortunately, the way this situation has been handled has left a lot of members frustrated. They did offer to give me a one month reimbursed of $24.99, I guess that is more than enough to the owner.

**This review is specifically for my experience with trying their Intro Class for first-timers…read more Warning: This is going to be a long one.** I'm an active person and I'm always looking for new ways to spice up my fitness routines. I've heard so much hype about Orange Theory over the past few years. I had to kill my curiosity and give it a try myself. SIGNING UP: The Hackensack location offers an intro class at $12 for first-timers. It's only free for specific locations. I signed up on the website and chose a 12pm class on a Friday. Keep in mind that they would like you to arrive around 30 minutes prior to the start time just so they can give you a mini "orientation". On the day of my class, I was greeted by one of the front desk employees, Jackie. She was enthusiastic, informative, and overall a pleasure to speak with. She explained what I would expect out of the class, gave me a tour of the studio, and went over my medical history/consent forms. WHAT IS ORANGE THEORY?: To sum OT up in a nutshell, it's basically a fitness studio that offers one hour group fitness classes, specifically two types: a HIIT-based one and a strength training one. I've only tried the HIIT one, so I can't speak on the other. Each class is led by a coach who instructs and guides you on the workout for the full hour. We rotate between three stations: treadmills, rower machines, and free weights/body weight exercises (planks, bicep curls, squats, lunges, etc.). The workouts change daily so there's always a new challenge. Everyone wears a heart monitor that the studio provides so we can track our heart rate. The monitors are synced up with each machine and on a giant screen so we can actually see how fast or slow we're going as well as everyone else's. There are different "zones" of heart rates, with each one representing the percentage of your maximum HR. For most of the workout, you want to try to stay in the ORANGE zone, which is 84-91% of your max HR. MY EXPERIENCE: Jeff was my coach. To put it simply, he was awesome. He had great energy, gave enough personal attention to everyone in class, and was encouraging the whole time. He also had a fire playlist, so that helped a lot haha. The other members were very friendly and welcoming. No judgment here- everyone came from varying level of fitness backgrounds, all shapes and sizes, and all ages. They have a strong sense of community, which is always nice in a fitness environment. I really enjoyed the class and I'm actually surprised at how much fun I was having. I'm not really into HIIT or cardio classes so this was a nice change from my usual weight lifting. I liked how I was able to see my heart rate and how hard I was working. After the class, Jackie followed up with me about how I felt and how I did. You're able to see your "stats" after every workout, like when and how fast your heart rate was changing and calories burned. She explained to me the different membership options and she wasn't pushy at all. Their memberships come in either a package of 4, 8, or unlimited classes each month. FINAL THOUGHTS: Although I had a positive experience, I decided not to sign up. Why? It doesn't exactly fit into my current fitness routine/goals. I'm a dancer and I also lift weights 4-5 times a week. I don't see myself taking their classes that often. At most, I might take a class twice a month, or maybe 3. I think their classes are motivating and challenging, but aren't my cup of tea. I prefer a gym floor with dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, benches, and machines... they don't have that here. Orange Theory is great for getting your cardio in and building your endurance, but I don't recommend it for those who really want to build more muscle, gain strength, and hit higher PRs. Last but not least, I think the prices are a little outrageous. $89/month for 4 classes, $189/month for unlimited, AND $100 for the heart rate monitor is not really worth it to me... Regardless of your fitness goals and experience, I still think taking an intro class is worth a try. If you like it and don't want to sign up for a membership, it's $28 for a drop-in rate + $10 for the heart rate monitor rental.
