Bought a polk soundbar on Jan 26 got it on the the 28 Jan just got a chance to install it ( Feb 20 2025) The sound comes on loud for less then a sec then sounds ok but should sound better for the make (it was an open box) but anyway the speaker turns off anywhere between 15 to 30 min on its own. Beware of special orders!!!!! If they don't tell you beforehand that special orders can't be returned, you are stuck with an item you no longer want or can afford. So shady, it's sickening. I cancelled an install of a very pricey car audio system, but was forced to keep the $1500 (plus taxes) amplifier. $1700 is a lot of money for some people! I'm also stuck with a dash cam that was apparently "special order" as well but can be easily purchased online from other dealers. What a joke. Trying to sell it is impossible. I'm beyond pissed. I've recently heard from others that this is Gibby's GAME and they will get you every time. Do yourself a favour and read the 1 star ratings! They're so arrogant that they'd rather have a 1 star review and lose a customer (well more than one because I know a lot of people in the area and will keep them all in the know) than make things right. I bought a 85" Samsung 8k TV from Gibbys. I received the TV and it was damaged when I opened it. They have a 30 day period where it can returned if damaged but i was unable to because I am in camp 28 days at a time and when I got out of camp it was a little past that 30 days. I did not know about this 30 day rule anyway, otherwise I would have planned out a little better. I have been told to contact Samsung and did but they said they can't do anything about the physical damage. I contacted the shipping company and they said to contact Gibbys for a return and reimbursement were they will pick it up for me. Which seems like the only fair, reasonable, and professional option considering I did not damaged the TV and for me to get it fixed would cost over $7000. I spent $3996.87 on the TV with the shipping included. That's a lot of money for me and most people, especially if the TV you're buying happens to be broken. Now I'm not sure what to do, I feel like I've been scammed. Would not suggest dealing with them to anyone. read more

Placed an order online yesterday and the reply email stated another email would be sent telling me when it was available for pick up. I didn't get an email so I tried online customer service ( just a bot made to look like a human) no reply, no email, no phone call...nothing. Called the store and the guy who answered claimed they had no invoice matching the number on mine. They had the invoice number before and the number after mine, but strangely, not mine. Was transferred to someone else who was not in. My message was not replied to. Sent an email, on top of the email the useless bot would have sent, asking for a refund. No reply. I ordered a SONY STR-DN1080 Open Box receiver from Gibbys online and paid by Paypal. The next day after payment was complete I received a call from a salesperson (Sean) who advised me that the open box item was no longer in stock and had been sold prior to my order. However I could buy a new on at the full price of $798. After some discussion about the pricing I was offered a $100 discount on the new one with free shipping and I agreed. I did receive the new receiver the next day by Fedex. Two items of note: The 'open box' receiver did show online as out of stock right after my agreemnent on the new one but later that day it was back in stock online. (four days later it is also 'in stock'.) Gibbys managed to increase my Paypal payment buy the increased cost of the new one without any correspondence from Paypal. I had not been aware that this was possible. I did complain to the Chat on Gibbys web page (the store was closed at that time) and was told that it would be forwarded to someone at the store. I got a call from Sean at 9:40 PM that night to explain to me that there were problems with their coordination of the web page with the store and plamed it on the Covid situation. I think he did not want me to call the store and I guess it worked because I never did. As I told Sean, I think this is a 'bait and switch' setup and they know what they are doing. I have accepted that there is little I can do about it other than inform others about the practice and never to do any business with them again. read more

I recently purchased a Toyota Venza, which came with the basic Toyota audio system installed...good but not good enough!! So I spent several weeks searching for a new, name brand, car audio system...with good sound, navigation/blue tooth/cd-dvd, as my main requirements. I also needed a company to install AND issue a warranty with their product(s). Like most people, I searched the internet...and got completely saturated!!! Tons of cheap off shore crap with very little, if any back up. American companies with good systems but no Canadian maps for their nav' systems...and on and on!!! I checked out Gibby's with local people I work with and received no negative comments. I spoke with Roland at Gibby's and liked what I heard. I took the 40 minute drive to the store and spoke with Roland and other staff members...Everyone made our visit feel good. I decided to buy and have installed an Alpine INE-W960HDMI DVD/GPS Navigation Receiver With SiriusXM...(a system that I had previously checked out on line and had ear marked). VERDICT: I am very happy with my choice of system, (Alpine INE-W960HDMI DVD/GPS Navigation Receiver With SiriusXM) and with the installation done by Gibby's staff. I Purchased a bad box 43 inch Samsung flat panel television from Gibby's online. When I arrived at the store to pick it up two days later I was told that I had to pay for the TV because the first payment that was made online was voided. I had no record of any refund on my credit card in fact there was only the charge for the television. I told the sales clerk at Gibby's that I would not make an additional payment until I saw proof that my original payment was refunded, they had no such proof at that time and I cancelled the sale and left the store. After filing a dispute with my credit card company, Gibby's finally found (seven days later) that Gibbys did in fact have the payment for the television and was finally going to refund my money. This experience has left me with a complete lack of confidence and trust in dealing with Gibby's and I would strongly recommend that you use other sources for your electronics. read more

I'm going to go against the grain here, with this review. While I'm not really talking about their products or knowledge, I'm actually addressing what I feel is a very important topic. And for what it's worth, I'm a Home Automation Specialist and deal with high end Home Theatre setups. This isn't my first rodeo! This store, is known to have many misleading ads, and a disappointing marketing system in place. Beware their boxing day sales, black friday sales etc. Being a somewhat "tech" nerd and enthusiast, when I'm in the market for something I tend to scrape data and wait sales out. With Gibby's offering so many "sales" (everytime I went to the website it said I had 24 hours before my item sale expired), I thought I would monitor a few high ticket items. A few months leading up to Black Friday, there was a Marantz "B" stock receiver they were selling for approximately $750. Then, a day before their black friday deals came out, that item skyrocketed to $1250. But, their product page said "SALE - 500 off!). Wow great deal guys. A similar Denon receiver seemed to have followed suit. It's very clear, that if you actually monitor specific items over a period of time, that they seem to go up around popular holiday shopping times. Could this be a legitimate "supply vs demand" concern? Maybe, but it's hard to tell. I wold love to assume this was a mistake, but I researched their pricing structures farther to see this has been going on for quite some time. I attempted to reach out to Gibby's regarding this issue, and they refused to comment. I have since chosen to take my business elsewhere on multiple occasions, and will continue to do so. Will I keep checking their site to compare prices against other retailers? Of course I will, and if a deal really does present itself, I will jump on it. In the last 2 years of scraping data though, I have yet to find any value in the services Gibby's provide. I was shocked to see how many good reviews were here. I guess if they "think" they got a good deal, and are happy, then ultimately it is a good deal (for them). The placebo effect is in full force here at Gibby! read more

DON'T BUY THE WARRANTY! DON'T DO BIZ HERE!! When we built our new townhouse in St. Catharines, we made a real effort to buy locally. We purchased a 65" LG OLED TV from Gibby's for $5K and opted for the $1K 4 year extended warranty. Going through the pandemic, we had the TV stationed to CNN almost continuously, and and shortly thereafter experienced "image retention". The CNN logo and "Breaking News" were burnt into the screen of our expensive TV. Contacted Ian in service who really dicked us around for a few weeks, sent a tech out to only eventually to tell us that our $1K warranty did not cover "image retention", which is the most common problem associated with the LG OLED TVs. Ian then told me they could fix the problem for $3,100, but in his opinion it would be better to just come buy another TV from them! Can you believe this Shi*?? I contacted LG directly and learned that the replacement screen cost 2K, and they are HAPPY to replace the screen on our TV for FREE, we will just have to pay the $250 labor charge. Wow. That's a great deal vs. what Ian offered me.....looks like Gibby's was looking to make $$$ on all the angles, even trying to make another $1K on our repair. Horrible experience. Will never go back to them and will actually go out of my way to tell people not to use them. Went in with the problem that my speakers didn't work so the sales Rep immediately tried to get me to buy 1000 dollar speakers. When I told him I just want them to work he seamed uninterested in even helping me. Charged me 270 for an install that took 1 hour and when I asked how them come up with that number I got multiple different answers from different employees, some said it's by the hour others by what was being installed. I just felt like I was getting scammed the whole time. When I brought my car in the first time (had to book 4 hours off of work) they called me after an hour saying they didn't have brackets for the install so I would have to do it the next weekend. When leaving their manager told me I would get something back but when I went back the next week no one knew what I was talking about and there was an extra 40 dollar charge. All of this and they didn't even fix the problem. When I started my car up immediately the front left and back left speaker went out again. got a price from an electronic store within an area close enough to my house to include free delivery for a 65 in. tv. my wife and i went to gibby's because as i told the salesman we wanted to shop locally. although we fell within all of the criteria for a price match at there store, they said they couldn't get hold of the other store on the phone to ask if they were an authorized samsung dealer. according to the stores website they were . after at least 20 minutes discussing the issue with another store employee they suggested we would be better off to buy the tv at the other store we left the salesman our phone number (my idea) so he could try to get hold of the other store. he said he'd try. both stores wanted $2200 for tv but the other store had a family day sale and we bought it a couple of day's later for $2000 after not hearing back from gibby's .some price match !!! herb c read more

They explained the features and answered my questions before I bought the receiver.The final price with the extended warranty was excellent . I followed the instructions and installed the receiver into my home theater. A week later I experienced some technical issues and called Gibbys. Within an hour the manager called me back and helped me troubleshoot the problem .It was back running again within a few minutes. Just the best. I live in Halifax and find the local high end stores don't have time for anyone unless you're in the clique. In the past few months I wanted to update two systems I have in the house. I tried to shop local but felt ignored at two of the higher levels stores in the area and very quickly realized I knew more than the Home Theater specialist at the local big box store. So about a month ago I emailed Gibby's as their name kept coming up in online searches. What a pleasant surprise. They emailed back promptly and with pertinent information. In fact, the first time I wound up ordering from them for my upgrade. Just a few days ago my 8 month old Onkyo amp went U/S and even though I think they'll cover the issue under warranty I don't want to be with the heart of my system all summer. So... what would any audio lover do... wait for that warranty repair or... look at it as an opportunity to upgrade. You got it! I spent the last three days online comparing models and reading reviews and when I finally got overwhelmed I thought of Gibby's and emailed Matt. As before he emailed back promptly with recommendations and comparisons of why I should buy a certain model, which was one of the models I had also been leaning towards. Then he hit it outta the park by offering a better deal than ANYWHERE else in the country AND free shipping. Shipping on nearly a 60 pound box is not going to be cheap. In fact, Matt honored a sale price that was already over when they clearly didn't have to! Top End Product, great knowledge of that product and even better customer service. I had a similar experience to the gentleman below who noticed something fishy about Gibby's prices. In essence, they almost always have a "sale" that suspiciously ends the very same day you're checking their website. Yesterday's sale ended yesterday. Today's sale ends today. It's a shady marketing tactic to spur shoppers to buy, thinking the sale is ending. In reality, there is no sale. Worse, there are items listed on their website at decent prices which, when you visit in person, the sales staff will say are not in stock. In fact an employee told me the model I saw advertised was four to five years old and they hadn't had any in some time. I was told the website was being updated, that they were doing inventory, and that it should be corrected on the website the next day. It was not. The same items were still there, at appealing prices, even though I was told face-to-face that they don't have them and won't get more. This is a pretty obvious bait and switch. I walked into Gibby's looking for a B-Stock receiver and was immediately offered a brand new unit for twice the price. The items I were interested in were nowhere to be found, out of stock, no longer carried etc. despite being in stock on Gibby's website. Buyer beware. You may think you're getting a good deal, but double and triple check that you actually are, and don't accept upsells. read more

Customer service has been very poor. After 3 weeks of phone tag, and emails to the owner. My defective set has finally been picked up, however replacement is still pending even though Panasonic themselves have authorized the return/replacement. So far we've missed Xmas and New Years without a replacement, and the whole process started in November. I was ready to purchase a turntable ($550.00) and a set of speakers ($600.00) in cash. However, I knew the boxed loudspeakers would ever fit into my car. I live less than 10 minutes from the store (literally, down the street) and they wanted $100.00 dollars to deliver the loudspeakers. Keep in mind that one of the loudspeakers in this pair had to be brought back to this location anyway from their second/new location. Less than an hour before this I purchase 270sq ft of each carpet and underpadding and they will be delivered for $60.00, and the retailer is slightly farther away from my home than Gibby's is. If I bought these loudspeakers through Amazon.ca, Gibbys is one of the suppliers/sellers, and guess what, shipping is free or included at the same price level. Pathetic customer service. My product had a manufacturer's defect and they would not do a quick exchange. I asked for a manager and had the co-owner Bev Gibson reply quickly "I am the manager" she then proceeded to give me some of the most unbelievable sarcastic attitude I have ever seen behind a counter. Finger waving etc. I questioned her attitude with a single word "wow" this set her off, and then she proceeded to ridicule my claims and told me to leave her store as she does not need my business. (Easy to say AFTER they have my money and explained how they can't give it back). Her employees stood around flabbergasted both at my reaction and her pompous attitude. Needless to say they didn't replace the item because of their shabby 7 day return policy. Sadly I went to Gibby's to support the local economy and although the item I purchased cost a good 100$ more than Best Buy or Future Shop chains, I wanted to give them my money. What a mistake, I guess sometime faceless corporations and blankets of policy can save the client instead of hurting them. I bought a sound bar on boxing day and was told it would arrive before new years! 10 days later I called back to find out they over sold the item and did not have mine to ship and did not bother to call me to let me know! So I was at the mercy of the supplier. John the manager was little to no help to find a solution to this problem except to refund my money. The problem was now well after boxing day I could no longer get that price anywhere. I call back the next week and still no sound bar! The "manager" offered me an open box item for 2.5x the price of the item I bought as another option. A week later they finally get it in! After the weekend, it arrives! AT THE WRONG ADRESS 1 hour away after I explained to them which address I needed it shipped to. I called back to find a solution and talk to the manager and he passes me off to a sales associate to solve the problem. This was the worst customer service I have ever received and will never buy from this store again. I have to say I did not know just how happy I would be with this company and their service. I was waiting for boxing day to get a good deal on a TV. As midnight approached the big box stores such as Costco and Best Buy were sold out with the model that I wanted. I was forced to go to another store. the very next morning I got a call from the other store saying it would take 6 to 8 weeks. I went back online aggressively searching who has this TV in stock and that is when I came across Gibby's. from the moment I called to place the order it was like night and day from any type of service I've ever received. they had the TV I wanted helped me place the order and even called me back a few hours later to let me know that it was packaged and ready for shipping. Here is the best-literally the day after boxing day I get a call 10:00 in the morning that the package is about an hour away. Even the delivery people were so professional and caring. They brought the TV right in to where I wouldn't have to carry it much. I signed the paper that it was received and I have to say from front to end going forward I recommend Gibby's to everybody. Let me be as objective as I can. Gibby's is a store with excellent prices and a great selection. They carry a great variety of products including many high-end items that you will not find in your standard electronics retail outlets. They have sales that put their items often several hundred dollars cheaper than their competition. That said, should you happen to buy something from them which doesn't work properly, forget about getting any sort of help. I bought a high-end home theater projector from them which was defective (manufacturing defect). I called several times over a period of 8 days, left voicemails, emailed the salesman, his manager and even the store owner and did not get a SINGLE call back. I did get several replies to emails, but the turnaround was typically over a day after sending the message, AND they did nothing to solve the problem or get me a replacement unit. The problem was eventually resolved by the manufacturer of the projector, but I have nothing positive to say about the service provided by the store. I know I will not be shopping there again. read more

Today, April 17, 2014, I was inline at a Tim Horton's drive thru. In front of me was a Gibby's Service van. Licence plate: AA 80794. The driver was ignorant. He was swearing and honking at the vehicle in front of him because he was running late. When the customer in front of him didn't move fast enough the driver became even more volatile. If this is how he behaves in a Tim Horton's line for everyone to see, I would be very afraid to have this guy inside my house making installations, especially if things didn't go his way. Who acts like this, especially in a customer service field.
