This place was quite crowded for a Sunday late morning! Donuts are about $0.75 each. I had the pumpkin spice, s'mores, and cinnamon twist donuts. I really like the pumpkin and s'mores as they weren't overly sweet and tasted fresh. The cinnamon twist tasted a little old though, and the consistency I didn't care for. Four donuts came out to $3. I prefaced this review with the fact that I am a huge fan of Bob's donuts in San Francisco (on Polk street)... I will go there at midnight on a random day just because I know that's when they make my favorite donut. I'm not a big sweet fan but I do like donuts. Who doesn't? So whenever I hear of a funky or Nationality acclaimed donut spot I generally try to make it there. While visiting Memphis I became aware of Gibson's donuts. I knew I had to try it from the moment I saw the reviews. I stop by here on a Saturday morning and the line was several people long and the parking lot was quite active so I knew I was in the right place. They had lots of people working behind the counter so the line actually moves very fast even if the line is going out the door.Before I could even look at what they had I was asked what I wanted. The gentleman behind the counter was very patient as I asked for some additional time to look at their offerings. He offered suggestions, he complemented my choices, and off I went. I purchased four donuts and two extra cold waters since they seem to go hand-in-hand and out to my car I went to try my donuts. There are several seats inside of the establishment but most of them were taken up by families and it was quite crowded so I wanted to be able to take pictures and talk about my experience in the privacy of my vehicle. The donuts were actually very good. the donut it's self was soft, had a very slight crunch from the frying, and the toppings were generous. None of the donuts were freshly made (hot from the fryer) so I feel like it is an unfair comparison to Bob's but I can imagine that freshly out of the fryer these donuts are actually 100 times better than they are when you purchase them from behind the counter. I am sure that if I lived in the neighborhood I would probably have their schedule much like I have Bob's but unfortunately when you're visiting sometimes you have to just take what they've got and it did not disappoint. If you're in town and you're a donut person then I certainly encourage you to give Gibson's donuts a try. I had the Samoa (flavor of the month) donut. It had a very light sugar glaze with coconut chips and a chocolate drizzle. It was very sweet but you could taste the coconut and it was very good. I had the maple which is a classic maple doughnut the maple flavoring that was not that strong. I prefer a stronger maple glaze but the quality of the doughnut itself is so nice that you can really overlook the lack of flavor in the maple glaze. I had the bacon doughnut. I should let you know upfront that I am not a big bacon on anything kind of fan. I like bacon for breakfast and that's it. I enjoy a BLT once in a while but don't normally like to put bacon in other places (unless it's a Mexican hotdog of course). So I wasn't a big fan of the bacon donut but that's just my personal choice I am sure it's delicious to people who like bacon. And lastly I had the chocolate doughnut which I think was my favorite. The chocolate was a dark chocolate and actually very good quality chocolate. You could actually taste the chocolate flavor. I find sometimes in donuts with chocolate that it is not the best quality because it's just sweet and so they can get away with using cheap chocolate but that is not the case at Gibson's donuts. They actually do use good quality dark chocolate and that really does make a difference. Enjoy! read more

I went on national donut day and the line was to the door. Even though they were slammed, I was able to order in less than five minutes and I still had plenty of options to choose from. I've had Gibson's so many times since moving to Memphis, but this was the first time I ordered a bacon donut without it being before half price hours. These donuts have crack in them!!! The Apple Fritters too!! While I am not a fan of the famous Maple Bacon Donut. I am a very consistent lover of the chocolate glazed donut, the apple fritters, and the red velvet donut. Like many others have said this place is good. First of all: Great customer service and good donuts! So why the low star? Glad you asked . Several times (almost every time I literally go) I see the staff grab the donuts from the tray- that they bring from the back, then use their BARE HANDS to grab each one and put it on the display! What makes me so upset is that they don't use any gloves! They could also use the paper sheet to grab them with! But they choose not to! One time I pointed it out to them. Their response:" Well sir, one the staff member who does that washes their hand and doesn't touch nothing else". As she says this -the kid (who was touching the donuts with his nasty bare hand and putting it in the display )- is hugging employee patting her on the back! I look at her, all she does is give me a nervous smile. I know they touch the donuts in the back, and prob do worse that what I see. But don't let me see your staff physically touch them in my face! Take the tray in the back and then touch them with your STAIKE BOOTY HANDS! Then lie to me about your sanitary practices by putting the tray on the display! read more

We went early evening and there were literally two kinds of donuts to choose from: glazed and chocolate covered. Both had been sitting for hours. It was very evident. We weren't greeted by the multiple workers who sat on their devices behind the counter as we looked at the case. When we were helped, it was not a good experience.
