How I heard of this place: Friends in Bellingham wanted to try the newest coffee shop after we…read moreenjoyed brunch. Having opened its doors only days prior, I was eager to join them for a cuppa java! Type of cuisine: Coffeehouse meets beer taproom in this bright, pastel-colored, vibrant space that is more reminiscent of a children's playroom than a chill-vibe coffee and beer establishment. "Bellingham-based Forecast Coffee as their java provider. A new brand from Tony's Coffee, Forecast "fights climate change" by sourcing coffee from farms using agroforestry. Tea comes from Flying Bird Botanicals and pastries are made by Mount Bakery. The soft opening menu also included breakfast croissants and sourdough grilled sandwiches." Ambiance: "The building has been repainted, landscaping is redone; we built new patios and the walk-in cooler out back, redid the parking lot layout -- everything except new floors," Chad Kuehl said. "We built out the benching along the windows, built out the bar -- it was just a big white room when we got it." When we entered, my first thought, too was that of the owners, "beachy farmhouse" -- combining natural wood elements and bright pops of color for a laid-back yet energetic vibe." What I ordered: A cortado, the perfect, tiny blend of espresso and milk. What I loved: The smooth sweetness of the espresso, and the lightly sweetened warmed milk which went down easily. Why I loved it: It's a family friendly spot, with plenty of seating indoors and out, windows on three sides of the establishment offering beautiful, natural light, and coffee worth the drive (but maybe not the wait). Cost: Average to high.

The hours are also friendly for evening grad student work. The coffee itself is hit or miss, as is the friendliness of the baristas.

I made a mental note to visit their site in Bellingham. I finally had the opportunity to try Makeworth Coffee Roasters and has now become my coffee destination up north (3/29/25). Decent paid street parking availability. The cafe itself is really amazing with the two level layout, high ceilings, and abundant natural light. Various seating arrangements that was not crammed together and allowed for comfortable convo, reading, or for the laptop crowd. The front counter had visible posted menus, a pastry case, and various coffee roasts to choose from. The layout allowed for efficient customer flow for ordering, pickup, and takeout. Welcoming barista staff - no hipster attitude. There's also other merch available for purchase. Overhead music and interior aesthetic added to the pleasant environment. Enjoyed my mocha, thankful for the clean restroom before hitting the road, and look forward to trying the purchased roast for brewing at home. Definitely recommended!

Our table ordered cappuccinos, dirty chais, mochas, breakfast sandwiches, and the soy tofu burrito; all delicious. Big plus for being vegetarian friendly (the tofu burrito is great). Highly recommend stopping by if you are in Bellingham!
