We had heard good things about this location so we decided to give it a shot for a couple scoops. It was pretty hot out the day we went, and there's only a few people in front of us, all the one was ordering a lot so it took a bit to get to the front. We got the cherry blossom and the summer peach flavors. Both were delicious! Especially good because they weren't oversaturated with sugar. This makes it a great place to go either after dinner or a few hours before because it won't ruin your appetite but you'll still enjoy the ice cream immensely! There's also a bunch of stores around that we would love to visit especially the antique store across the street so we look forward to coming back here again. There's only a couple of benches outside to sit at so plan accordingly because you pick up your ice cream at the window outside only. I ordered the Chocolate Lovers Chocolate this week. It was good; creamy and rich, but I'm a chocolate fanatic! My sister had the Flying Fish Fudge. It was vanilla ice cream with fudge pieces, cookie dough and M&Ms. She loved it. The sugar cones were especially tasty for some reason, real crisp. Perhaps, it was a brand new package they had just opened. I've been here about several times now. The service is always very polite and super friendly. While the Viking Vanilla was more of your typical vanilla ice cream, the Strawberry Fields really stood out as high quality as it contained pieces of actual strawberry inside...probably the best strawberry ice cream in the area. Although it's cash only, the prices are reasonable with generous portions, with a kids or regular size more than ample size to satisfy any sweet tooth craving. The ice creams are okay, like a decent brand ice cream from the grocery. We still visit the place because its close to home and it feels good to have ice cream on the bench in the shade of the trees. However, today we found out they made a new rule to allow tasting only three flavors per "order". We were ordering two cups with two scoops each. It's a strange rule to allow tasting only three flavors when we are buying four. I would understand if the limit was per cup, even then three seems to be a harsh limit. read more

Gil & Berts is an ice cream shop on the side of a house. It's very homey and fits the vibes of the surrounding area. They have lots of different flavors and they are homemade too! :) I like to change it up from time to time, but I think their strawberry fields is one of my favorite flavors. It's dog and family friendly. There's chalk for kids to play with & use on the sidewalks. There's pup cones for the cute pups that visit. I love this place!!! This is one of the best ice cream places I've been to. It's a small family-owned shop but has some of the best flavor varieties and the most creative names. It operates from what used to be their formal living room (which I think is so cool; they have their entire business in a room and a window). You have to wait in a line outside and when I went, the line was beyond their ropes, even when it was raining. I got the gimme smores, and I loved the crunchy bits. My friend had the Better Batter Cake Batter, and that was also so good. The ice cream has so many cool fun flavors that I wanted to try them all. In fact, you can try them. Creamy but not gooey creamy. Right amount of sugar, fresh quality ingredients, flavors are spot on. Loved it. The window service was prompt and efficient. Lines and COVID distancing spaces indicated on the sidewalk. Easy credit card pay. The town of Cranbury is really pretty, and it was a quick and easy 10-min detour on my trip up to Rutgers. Maybe it's early in the season but the 2 times we have gone here they were out of half the flavors. Also, the lines were so long - 15-20 minutes (maybe lack of help or training new staff - only 2 on one window). Was always a great local ice cream spot and hope it gets back to normal. One of my favorite local ice cream spots. First of all, the location couldn't be any better. Tucked away in the quaint village of Cranbury, it's in the perfect little corner to wind down and enjoy a scoop on a warm day. Shady trees, cute benches to relax on, historical homes lining the sidewalks and a quiet Main Street make for a perfect setting. Always a ton of delicious flavors to try, many homemade as well. I tend to go for their s'mores ice cream when it's available. Really reasonable prices, too. Also, adults with smaller appetites--don't be afraid to order the kids cone! They'll serve it to you judgement free every time! Enjoy your cone on one of their benches (they usually have a tent that covers some of their benches during the summer months) or take a walk down Main Street and relax with your ice cream by the lake. There's always tons of chalk on the sidewalk outside the shop for the kids to make chalk art. I also always see people bringing their dogs for a scoop. Gil & Bert's is truly for everyone! read more

Owners need to staff more than one person at the window especially on Sunday nights, or sell packed pints/quarts by call ahead only (or early hours). Came here on a rainy Sunday and had a good time! First, parking was pretty easy to find because of the weather, although we still had to walk a little ways in the rain :) Unless I missed something, there's actually no seating area inside, so I was a little disappointed by that, especially considering the weather. I got the strawberry ice cream for myself, while my wife got the chocolate peanut butter. I actually really enjoyed my ice cream - I haven't had really good strawberry ice cream in a while, so it definitely hit the spot. On the other hand, my wife did NOT like her chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I tried some and completely agreed that it wasn't nearly as good as mine. It seems like some flavors are better than others, then. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Gil & Bert's and could imagine coming back to get some ice cream and walk around Cranbury on a nice spring day. Of course, if the weather was more pleasant, the line would probably be much longer, so pros and cons to both scenarios, I guess! read more

Their food truck was in Princeton and had a long line in front, so a friend and I decided to give it a try. The two girls working in the truck were so friendly and cheerful, even after standing there for hours! There was a board with a ten or so flavors listed, available in sizes kiddie ($2), small ($4), and large ($7) - weirdly buying a kiddie and a small was more ice cream than just getting a large, based on the ounces listed in the description. I got a kiddie cup of strawberry fields ($2), at the recommendation of one of the girls working there, and my friend got a small cup of wicked chocolate ($4). The ice cream was good but it honestly didn't seem very different from the higher end brands sold in grocery stores. The wicked chocolate was extremely dark and chocolatey, and not too sweet. My friend really liked it and thought it was 5/5; I thought it was good but not that amazing, though maybe because I didn't try very much of it. The chunks of strawberry in the strawberry fields were nice, but it really seemed like just standard strawberry ice cream but creamier :( If I ever see the truck around again or if I'm near Cranbury I'll definitely stop by and try more flavors, as the ones we tried were very standard and perhaps some other ones are more memorable. read more

We both got the "hard yogurt" black raspberry chocolate chip and fell in love. We live pretty far but when we were in the area again, I made sure to buy a pint of the black raspberry chocolate chip for myself.
