I was charged an extra $150 for progressive lenses. I remember distinctly telling the consultant that I wanted to order only what my insurance would pay. I paid $230 which was supposed to be half...when I picked them up ..I owed $350. How was that possible? There answer was that "someone should have called you". I never received a call and had to pay $350 to get my glasses. When I expected to pay $210. What sa ripoff. Do not use Gilbert Eyecare! read more

I wish I could leave a 0-star review. This place is horrible. Not only did I get into an argument with the nurse over eye dilatation, but they charge extra to examine the health of your eye. I've never experienced this kind of treatment in all my life. When I walked out the office the nurse proceeded to slam the door. Extremely unprofessional environment. I was having issues with my prescription from another practice and Gilbert eyecare was very accommodating and helping me solve the problem. Ridiculously incompetent. My husband was seen for an eye appointment and new glasses in October. They charged us almost 500$ for his new glasses and when they arrived they are not right. I called and we were told to come in and have them adjusted, we live an hour away and had to make a special trip , we made the trip and they said they couldn't adjust his new glasses, then they told that his prescription is wrong and then they tried to convince my husband that it's somehow his fault that his prescription is incorrect, we came in again only to be told they cannot see him for a new prescription for another month, but don't worry it'll be a "no cost" fix... what a joke. Great Service!!! We went there to get my Mums glasses fixed. She is here for vacation an the little things that let the glasses sit on your nose (I obviously dont know the right term for it - but hopefully you get what I mean) broke and therefore had to be fixed. The friendly woman who welcomed us to the quite busy store, fixed the glasses within Minutes, cleaned them up for us and did all of this without charging us a penny! That is great Service. My wife broke her glasses, unfortunately, so we popped into Gilbert Eyecare for an exam. They took care of us quickly and were very friendly! From the receptionists to the doctor, they genuinely cared about how we were and how our experience was going. We laughed, chatted, and had a great exam. The equipment seems to be up to date as far as I can tell. Our appointment started right on time, too! I highly recommend Gilbert Eyecare for eye exams. I had a wonderful experience at Gilbert Eyecare! I would highly recommend this location due to their awesome customer service & quality of products. Unfortunately, I broke my glasses trying to clean them right before going into work. Thank goodness I had backup contacts, but prefer to wear my glasses. My prescription was expired and I needed one immediately! My husband called around and Gilbert Eyecare was the ONLY place that had open appointments on a Saturday. We arrived about 10 minutes before my appointment and there was some new patient paperwork I had to fill out. The staff were friendly and eager to answer any questions I had about the process. I was really happy to see that staff were not pushing products on patients. I planned on obtaining my prescription and ordering glasses online (buy glasses on eye buy direct-free shipping on 1st orders & super cheap. I paid a total of $20 for lenses and frame). The front desk staff was great. The tech was great. BUT I was left to sit in the chair with my eyes dilated for over 25 minutes while I could hear the doctor (NOT GILBERT) and the glasses tech (and maybe a vendor) sit in another office and chat. After my exam, which took over an hour, I sat down with the glasses tech who then refused to simply measure my current glasses dimensions or measure my PD for me. Dr Gilbert is always great to deal with. He is not the typical Dr who rushes in and out. David takes the time to explain things to you. He is friendly and easy to deal with. I recently switched to Gilbert Eyecare. Previously I was going to another eye care center that I was very unhappy with. A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Gilbert & I couldn't be happier with him & his staff. They were able to get me a last minute appointment b/c my contact prescription expired with my old doctor & I needed new contacts ASAP. I showed up to my appointment 5 minutes early & I was seen immediately (already a HUGE improvement over my old eye care center). A technician did a couple initial assessments & took pictures of the back of my eyes (instead of dilating them!!!). I'm ridiculously excited about never having to get my eyes dilated again. It costs $28 and insurance won't cover it, but its well worth it in my opinion. After the technician completed the initial assessment I saw Dr. Gilbert for the remainder of my appointment. Dr. Gilbert is very personable & quite funny. After my last eye doctor I was so happy with Dr. Gilbert that I wanted to hug him! My entire appointment only took 45 minutes b/c there's no waiting around AT ALL. Of those 45 minutes, I was with Dr. Gilbert for about 25-30 of them. That is very important to me b/c my last eye care center would have the technician complete 95% of the appointment & the eye doctor would only see me for about 5-10 minutes. Dr. Gilbert really took his time to get my prescription right & explain my vision to me. He joked around with me & made me feel very comfortable. He told me that he wants to get my contact prescription 100% right & that I should never hesitate to come in or call if I have any problems or feel that my vision isn't what it should be. (My old eye doctor was less than helpful, to say the least.) I'm very pleased to have found such a caring, considerate, & professional eye doctor! read more

I can't say enough about Gilbert Eyecare! The optometrists here are simply amazing. I had an ocular migraine for the first time and Dr. Gilbert himself gave me his cell number due to how scared and in pain I was and called me every 15 minutes until my vision was restored. They saw me the day after and were so kind. They were the first optometrists to fully answer my questions and explain my particular eye sight and astigmatism to me. They take great care in educating their patients and I really appreciate that. I trust the doctors here implicitly and will continue to rave about this practice to anyone who will listen. I do have to mention that the front desk staff has never been particularly friendly and I haven't had outstanding service from them ever, but the optometrists make up for the salty reception desk. read more

Can't say enough good about this optical centre. The front desk staff were super helpful. I had torn my last set of contacts that morning while in VA on business. Stuck with my old prescription glasses I did a quick search on yelp for local Eye centres. I picked this one primarily because of the ratings online. I wasn't disappointed! Explaining my situation the staff were incredibly accommodating and got me sorted almost immediately. My old prescription was faxed in from Memphis and I was examined and issued a new set. Be very careful here. I NEVER had an Optometrist bill my Blue Cross Blue Shield for a "medical decision of low complexity" for a just a refraction exam. I asked for the invoice at end of the time of exam - they could not provide due to computer issues. I asked again months later - nothing. Now many months later I am billed for services that were never asked about nor detailed during the exam of my child. This is possibly unethical and I have reported it to the insurance board for false charging. BE CAREFUL! Ask for the invoice!!!!! read more

I just visited your Laskin Road office, actually 3 time within a week. Your reception staff are consistently the worst I have ever experienced in a retail store. No "hello" no "smile" just why are you here and glares. The actual technicians are wonderful! But you need to re-train or re-hire your reception ladies! read more

I stopped by Gilbert Eyecare on Brambleton Avenue, with a new prescription for glasses in hand. I was just looking, with no intention of buying on this day. I was on my way home from looking for frames at another store, and decided to give Gilbert a shot. I was helped by Donna, who quickly pulled about a dozen frames, most of which were nothing like what I had in mind, and nothing like the frames I'd tried on at the previous store. Three of the frames became immediate candidates. After not planning to buy anything, I did. And I'm excited to get my new glasses in a few days. One other thing: The previous store asked if I had eyecare/vision insurance, and I said no. They left it at that. When they asked me a Gilbert, I said no, again. But when I mentioned that I had Anthem, they said that I might have coverage for glasses as part of my overall policy. Turns out that I do, and their question saved me 30% off my purchase price, worth almost $300. I was treated very well, got frames I really like, saved a bunch of money and the whole experience took less than 30 minutes. read more

DO NOT GO especially if you want to use your eye insurance and not your medical insurance. I called the office and had them pre approve using my eye insurance and NOT my medical this year because last time they used my medical I had a substantial copay and my eyeinsurance went unused. I understand that they would rather use your "medical" because the reimbursement is much higher - so they give a diagnosis like "pre-glaucoma". This year all I wanted was an update in my perscription and was told they would file my eye insurance they even preapproved it with VSP. Well they filed my medical insurance and charged me a $75 copay - when I brought this to their attention it turned into a 3 month argument, until I had a doc friend call them to tell them who I was - ridiculous. So I finally have that issue resolved and I ordered my very high end lenses somewhere else and when they came in the perscription was incorrect. It is not the lenses it is the prescription. I went back to Gilberts and they tried to charge me $95 dollars to evaluate the glasses. I told them what I really need is a new exam- they said they would call me Monday, but I am not even sure it is woth the 7$5 dollars I would be saving to go back to them again. They have been very rude and unaccommadating. read more
