Pomona, NY - Gilligan's is one of our go-to restaurants for family dinner, especially when I'm in the mood for seafood & tropical vibes. We haven't been here in a while so I was glad to see this place hoppin' on a Saturday night. Luckily the wait wasn't long, less than 10 min. As we are now into the months with an "R" in the name, I was sooo psyched that IPSWICH WHOLE BELLY CLAMS are back! They are only in season during the colder months and aren't usually found in restaurants around these parts, but Gilligan's has them on the menu so I always impatiently wait for them to be available. They are gently fried and were fresh and plump, as were the mussels I also had this evening. I went for my usual LOBSTER FOR ONE which rests atop a mound of mussels & clams, while my family ordered fish dishes topped with other seafood, and all were delicious and fresh. The Maine lobster was cooked perfectly and very tender. Fluffy, crusty, freshly baked warm bread is always served at the table. Read my previous review for more details as it was pretty thorough, but worth mentioning again that they have a large and diverse menu so the seafood-averse can also feast on brick oven pizza, pasta, steak & ribs, chicken, salads, burgers & sandwiches. But the seafood is the highlight and what I come here for. We also pick up their excellent and bountiful Tuesday carry-out specials on a regular basis and it literally feeds my family for days. What's more, prices are still very reasonable even after all these years! Staff are nice and accommodating. We always love it here. read more

I still remember when the price for the lobster for 1 was around $18.00 I ordered the lobster for 1 and the clam strips for my appetizer. People in Rockland County love Gilligan's because the food is decent and the prices are very cheap. Their service sucks! The waiters and table people have an attitude. The guy at the front desk at lunchtime (who is also the waiter) reminds me of the, "Soup Nazi" in Seinfeld. I took my wife and son to lunch at Gilligan's. It was noon. The front desk guy who is also the waiter said to us, "I can seat you but you'll have to wait a while for service. We finally ordered. My wife's lunch came out immediately. My son and I waited 50 minutes to get our food, and my food was made wrong and I could not eat it. I was on my lunch hour. I started yelling at the front desk guy/waiter about have to wait forever. He had an attitude. The food is decent at Gilligan's but not great. I will never go back to Gilligan's. There are far better restaurants in Rockland. I'll pay more and get better service, nicer ambience, and polite waiters. read more

I hadn't been here in a while because our last meal wasn't great. Decided to give them another chance. Our server was wonderful! She was the only part of our experience that I enjoyed. My friends got the fried dinners. They were ok, one had shrimp parm. The sauce tasted of cinnamon. It was strange. We've eaten it there many times but this was just off. My dish- Tilapia Francaise, served in a pool of watery chicken stock flavored liquid. A plastic container of decent coleslaw and a baked potato that was probably sitting all day plopped on the plate in the middle of the liquid. I asked for another potato and they brought me out a decent fresh one. I'm sad that I have to write this review. We have been customers at Gilligan's for 20+ years. I hope that get their game back. If you walk in the pick up area--they actually have fresh fish in the case. My sister and I both had the baked Salmon--it's 5 out of 5--deliciousness. ($25.00) The baked potato was okay--a little on the hard side. The pasta with Marinara was okay--I make the best pasta at home. The side salad was very good. My brother-in-law gave me a taste of his Chicken Parmesan and it was okay--I have had better elsewhere. (and worse). Overall this place is a 4.5 of 5. The food came quickly and as a whole was good. HOWEVER the escargot was the worst I ever tasted. The escargot were in the original shells and were the tinest I ever saw. And I had to crack the shells to get to them. In most restaurants, they are 4-5!times bigger and they're placed in either artificial shells or the other places had much bigger escargot. They tasted terrible. I ate one and threw them all out. I'm surprised that a clam and fish restaurant had such a terrible dish on their menu. I came here on a random Monday afternoon with a party of 3. We were driving through the area and found this place. We came here for an intention of a quick snack, but left very full... not complaining at all! We started off with the calamari appetizer, along with two clam chowder bowls. The calamari I thought could be more fried, they were rather soggy and bland. The clam chowder (not pictured) was very decent sized. It definitely looked differently than the New England Clam Chowders I usually get, but I enjoyed it! For Entrees: we ordered 1 crab cake, 1 platter of fried shrimp & scallops, and a "personal" bowl of lobster (and mussels & clams). The entrees were definitely a lot more tastier and I think makes this place worthwhile. The portion sizes are very generous! For everything we spent under $100, which we thought was very good compared to similar NYC/BOS seafood joints. While the food was good, our server wasn't super helpful when we had questions regarding some of the dishes on the menu. Would I come back? If I was in the area, sure! We are regular customers at Gilligan's. We were there last night. It was far from what was expected. The food was not hot, more like cold. Bread was non existent. We asked four different people including the hostess. All we received was excuses. Customers that came in after us, were served a basket or two before we were finally given a basket of cold bread. Understand when we asked the hostess for bread her answer was... It's in the oven". Obviously ours never saw the oven. I usually recommend Gilligan's, but after last night... we will have second thoughts about recommending Gilligan's. read more

Three of us went on a Saturday night around 630 and I was worried about the wait- only 30 mins and we were able to sit at the bar to wait. I'm also happy they stopped the valet parking on weekends bc it was truly unnecessary. Was nice and chilly inside on a hot day and we started off w beers and stuffed clams. Fantastic food !! Forgot to take pictures. I had just a bowl of French onion soup. My dad started with a cup of New England chowder that he scoffed down! Then he had a dozen shrimp cocktail followed by a large slice of NY cheesecake that looked good as well as a fresh cup of coffee (just not a cheesecake fan). Reasons why I loved it - 4 lobsters were huge with a ton of meat. Cooked to perfect. The mussels, clams and potatoes were also cooked well. I will say the broiled scallops were ok, they were cooked well but it lacked flavor. It comes with salad and melted butter. The broth that came with the mussels and clams was divine. Although the seafood lacked a touch of salt, I still give this place 4 stars because the seafood was fresh and they were cooked well. Plus, my friends and I made our own dipping sauce on the side - salt and pepper with a touch of tobasco Best of all, the restaurant is huge and it's Gilligans Island themed - how fun! Our server was great - I didn't even ask for a soda refill and she just brought it over I gave this experience 4 stars because we walked in and we weren't helped for a few minutes and we were on a tight schedule. When I started working up in this area, Gilligan's was the first potential lunch spot I stumbled across, and yet it took over a year before I finally made my debut (though I did walk over once to get a pickup order involving catfish, but I decided that didn't count). One co-worker from the area gleefully told me a story about a stabbing that took place here several years ago, but a) I found no evidence of that and b) it honestly made this a more intriguing destination. There's a bar in Fairfield, NJ I once went to because every time my grandfather drove by it he'd say, "That's a real bucket of blood. Someone was killed there in the '30s.' I can at least say Gilligan's is not a bucket of blood. This felt from day one like more of a dinner/drinks spot than lunch, and that was certainly my takeaway yesterday when I came by around 1:30pm. I definitely got poor man's Margaritaville vibes in here - there's a lot of tropical-themed decor and a hidden tiki bar in the back that had no customers or employee manning it. I'm honestly not sure if it was open or not. Regardless, the regular dining area was pretty busy and needed at least one more waiter/waitress; the two I saw were very overworked/harried and constantly on the move. One of them finally saw me by the entrance after a few minutes and brought me to a table. Seafood seemed like the right call here, and I went with the Lobster Fra Diavolo ($31). In hindsight, I would have gotten something less dramatic that didn't involve me getting my paws dirty and wearing a bib, but that's obviously on me. The lobster itself was partially open so it was fairly easy to remove the meat from the tails; nice touch, in my view. The Fra Diavolo sauce had a nice zest to it that made my nose run slightly but not overwhelmingly (which is what happens when I wander into the Thai restaurant nearby). I'm by no means an expert on this particular dish, but I wasn't crazy about the fact that the sauce was exclusively applied to the interior of the lobster. As a result, the accompanying linguini was devoid of a lot of flavor and required extra work to mix in some of that sauce. This is also a rare instance where I don't think they had enough pasta in the entree. Keep in mind that I'd accidentally been gorging myself on holiday snacks all week but even with a smaller appetite I easily consumed the pasta and could have quite a bit more. The inclusion of the full lobster for sure cut down on space, but they could have put another handful of linguini underneath it, especially given how deep the bowl was. The service was mediocre. I don't really put that on the waitstaff that assisted me, as they were constantly moving around from table to table and were certainly busy. But because of the fact that they were spread thin, no one stopped by to check in (thankfully it wasn't needed) and I had to be pretty proactive in catching someone's eye to grab the check. The waiter who did ultimately process my payment did take a few seconds to make eye contact with me at the end and wish me a happy holiday, which was a nice gesture. There was a lot to take in here, but suffice it to say I'd come back after work, not during. Hopefully the service is a bit better and I can consume a rum-based cocktail or two. read more

We gave Gilligan's another chance last night. There was no wait to be seated. Our waitress came to the table promptly for drinks & apps. When our salads came it was a default house dressing and we wondered if we weren't given a choice as a cost saving measure? I ordered the Sea Scallops (broiled) and they were delicious and a generous portion. I had asked for rice as a side and received the mixed vegetables by mistake. I mentioned it to our waitress and she apologized and said she mis-heard me. This was quickly remedied by a replacement side of rice. I noted some other reviews noting miscommunication and wonder if this is simply a hearing problem. My wife's King Crab legs were properly cooked and very tasty. The portion size was large, and worth the $50 price tag. One leg on the order was as large as a cucumber! Well done Gilligan's, you have changed my mind. read more

I ordered a broiled plate for takeout -- this time, in person because I forgot my phone; I have pretty much ordered the same dish over the phone for the past 20 years because they generally take about 20 minutes to prepare. The piece of fish that was provided was not only small, but mushy to the extent that it was inedible. There were no pieces that could be picked up with a fork. I ate the salad, bread, scallops and potato and trashed the inedible food in disgust. Afterwards I did contact the establishment to inform them how unsatisfactory my $24 purchase was. They invited me to return and show them the food, but I had already trashed the remaining food and I was not going back into the work garbage at that point because the food was not retrievable. Also I had returned to work and could not leave as we were about to broadcast. What bothered me profoundly which I would like to express in this review was that the one time I order in person in 20+ years and they see my face is when I receive the worst piece of flounder. In a seafood establishment, it stands to reason that there had to be a better piece of flounder than the one I provided. So I no longer trust this business to serve impartially and would not feel comfortable or safe returning and will not eat there again. read more

We've been ordering take out from Gilligan's for many years. We decided to dine in for the first time and I wish we hadn't. We had the fried calamari, it was tasty. Small size calamari but they serve a nice portion. The Lobster and Shrimp penne in a Alfredo sauce was good. Nice size shrimps and small chucks of lobster. The sauce was light. They serve a side salad and a bread basket. Portions and prices are reasonable. We ordered a bottle of wine, and the waitress attempted to fill the glass to the rim to empty out the bottle. Not sure if we were being rushed or she thought that is how wine should be poured. We were seated at a table by a wall and suddenly saw a roach on the molding on the wall, eye level with the table. Unfortunately, these incident occurred after I had my appetizer and started my main course. Would I have seen it before I would have left the premises. We moved ourselves to another table. When the waitress returned we explained what we saw and she was trying to convince me it as an ant. The manager never came out to ask what happened. I would think that the manager would want to address a situation like this.The waitress kept returning to the table asking how the food was and if I was full. Clearly she saw I didn't touch my plate. My husband gracefully continued eating not to cause a scene and I drank the wine. The waitress returned at the end of our meal when the bill and gratuity were settled to tell us the manger felt bad and wanted to offer us a cheesecake. Needless to say we declined. The place can use some cleaning. There are too many artificial plants and stuff that is very dusty and dirty looking. Also, the manager needs to play his or her part and address customers when there are situations that arise instead of letting the waitress deal with it on her own. I stopped by here this past Friday evening to pick up food for our family for dinner. It wasn't where I had originally picked for dinner but after finding a pamphlet in our rental house we decided to give it a try. So I placed an order for dinner via their website and got a confirmation that it would be ready in 30 minutes. We arrived to the restaurant about 35 minutes later and our food was ready. Since I didn't go in to pick it up, there's not much I can actually say about the inside but I will say that the parking lot is both confusing and frustrating. I missed the first entrance from the road I was on and then got stuck in an area big enough for 4 cars and couldn't get out due to a red light. Even once I did get parked, I had issues getting out due to other cars. For dinner on this day our family ordered quite a bit of food and started out with the bucket of fried clams. Then for dinners I ordered the catfish, blackened, with French fries and penne vodka while my twins got a chicken finger meal with fries. Everyone else ordered the calamari with linguine (1 red sauce and 1 garlic and wine sauce) and then a Zuppa de pesce with a clam broth also over linguine. All of the pasta portions here ended up being quite massive and my wife and her parents each got 2 - 3 meals out of their food. As for myself, I only got one meal out of it although I did share both my penne and my fries with my twins. My catfish here was cooked nicely where it was moist and warm in the middle and had a decent amount of blackening spices on the outside. The flavor from the spices was decent but I wish that it had been stronger and maybe a bit spicier too. Then my penne vodka ended up being really good as the pasta was cooked al dente and the flavor of the sauce itself was good. Last but certainly not least were my French fries which were a little soggy by the time I got to them. Whether that was due to the time in-between them being made and me consuming them or if they were made that way I am unsure. However they still tasted decent enough and I had a few of them. Due to the volume of the fried clams I wasn't able to eat as much of them as I wanted. I haven't had fried clams in a long time and thought that these ones were particularly good. They had a nice and crispy exterior and soft interior with a good flavor which made eating them fun. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. All of my family enjoyed their food and we thought that there was good value in the amount for the price. read more

Invited here for a 60th birthday celebration. We were a party of nine. The place was decorated festively, lots of color. It wasn't too overdone or tacky. The menu was quite extensive and featured many different seafood/combo dishes. We had the family calamari and raw oysters to start. The bread was hot, soft, and delicious. I had one of the mixed seafood buckets (actually a large bowl). It had clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and a lobster in it with a white clam sauce. I have to say the sauce was the best part of this meal. Absolutely delightful. The only criticisms I will say were some of the mussels contained grit and the mussels (too much) to shrimp/scallop (not enough) ratio was off for my liking. For such a big bowl there were like two shrimp and two scallops. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, i'm reviewing solely on my experience. Service was good. Drink, appetizer, and food orders were taken in a timely manner. Food came out all together in an acceptable amount of time for nine people.
