Our first time here and everything was delicious. I had a cheeseburger which was so juicy and flavorful, cooked perfectly to medium rare. My husband has the open faced romanian steak sandwich that came with fries and two onion rings again cooked perfectly, it was delicious. And the staff couldn't have been nicer. We stopped by here for breakfast before our hike at Bear Mountain. It was a big place with maybe only 5 tables of customers. The service was good - our waiter was very nice and our food arrived fairly quickly. We ordered a fountain ginger ale but it was SOOO off. I'm not even sure what soda it tasted like so we got a canned soda instead. We ordered the classic eggs Benedict which came with a lot of hollandaise sauce, which I'm thankful for because other places give like a spoonful. It was good. The house fries that came with the order weren't that great - they kind of tasted floury if that makes sense. I also tried some sausages and French toast. The sausages were good. There's a reason it took over a year for me to try this place, even though it's very conveniently located/close to where I work. A few co-workers ordered from here a while ago and hated it, and the locals I know won't go near it. I finally decided to give them a shot yesterday for lunch, and...it could have been worse. I think in these dark times we take that as a victory. Out of every eating option in the area, the Mount Ivy Diner is probably the hardest to miss. It's literally right off the southbound exit ramp of the Palisades on 202, on a busy enough section of that county highway that there's literally a traffic light placed at their exit so you can safely (and fairly quickly) get out of there - you're probably waiting close to five minutes otherwise. When I stopped by, there was tons of parking both on the side and behind the building, and it was pretty clear why when I walked in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was one table and one stool occupied at lunchtime. That's it. They must be dramatically making up for that on the weekend or something because I genuinely don't know how they'd stay in business otherwise.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was given free rein to pick my seat, and I secured a booth closer to the middle of the restaurant by the window.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It seemed best to play it safe here, so I stuck with the breakfast menu and ordered the Eggs Benedict. They were okay but probably not something I'd get here again. As you can see from the attached picture, they went WAY too heavy on the hollandaise, and one of the poached eggs fell off the side about two seconds after I snapped the shot so the presentation wasn't ideal (not that that's insanely important at a diner, but I also shouldn't have to literally place the egg on the Eggs Benedict back on the English muffin before eating it). I also wasn't a huge fan of the accompanying hash browns; they had chunks of pepper and onions in them, which I wasn't crazy about and ate around, and even despite that were pretty tasteless. The service was fantastic though, and that salvaged the experience to some extent. The waitress came off like a cagey veteran and was super attentive, efficient, and professional. It certainly helped that I was close to being the only game in town for her at that particular time, but she was pretty much perfect. The overall negative impression this place left on me had nothing to do with her. The food came out within a couple of minutes, and when I wanted to grab the check, it took less than a minute to do so. If I get another near-term diner craving, I'm going to go further down 202 to Sparky's in Haverstraw. The food was better and the vibe wasn't reminiscent of a mausoleum. read more

Coming back from a 3hr hike at Bear Mountain, my girlfriend and I were in the area...and famished. Figuring a diner is a safe bet, we landed at Mt Ivy All American Diner just before 9:00pm. A little put off by there being just a couple of others eating inside, we grabbed a booth nonetheless. The food here really isn't anything special: mozzarella sticks were crisp and cheesy while calamari was almost inedibly tough. Sandwiches fared better: the Roumanian steak sandwich was topped with tangy bbq sauce and crisp onion rings while the Athenian panini (beef gyro, cucumber, lettuce, onion with tzatziki) was satisfying. I would try to stay with basic dinner food. we had a couple of omelettes and one order of pancakes. eggs and pancakes good. nothing special. one cup decaf and one cup regular. almost forgot, a toasted bagel that was probably in the fridge since the old owners ran the place. hard and stale. we also order some mozz sticks that we could not eat. the marinara sauce taste like old ragu. they had no smoothies or any of the other juices available as listed on their 500 page menu. btw, half their menu, 250 pages are for latino food. maybe that is their niche or who they targeting? idk. now the bad. awful awful service. sour uptight older hispanic woman. waaaooo, she should not be in the hospitality industry. This past Saturday we literally rolled into the parking lot of this diner after getting a flat tire! We went in and ordered food and drinks. Still waiting for our tow truck, it was getting late and they closed at 9pm, so we let them know that we were just hanging around until our assistance came. They welcomed us with open arms. Not only was the service exceptional, the food was really good too! I ordered their crispy chicken tenders with fries and a side salad and my bf got a portobello gourmet personal pie. Other restaurants have made changes to their service to accommodate customers with allergies but not hear. So, if they make changes I'll visit again but I doubt that will happen. Typical diner, decorator is outdated but the seats look replaced. Booths needs to be clean especially the ones with the windows. Food was delicious, my fat ass got hot chocolate, cheesecake pancakes, chicken Quesadila. One of the few diners that have Quesadilas. I also end up getting beef hash with eggs. We went to breakfast and were excited to see their unique heated outdoor dining. There is a limit to 4 per Hester gazebo, but we had two gazebos. It was a nice change of pace given the confinement we have all been living. This place takes covid precautions very seriously. Contactless menus, prebagged silverware, hand sanitizer. Driving by feeling hungry but should've kept on driving. Overpriced but sub-par food. Ordered bagel with lox and the works. Had to ask for onions, and it came along with a very sad salad composed of wilted/yellowing shredded lettuce, a dry slice of carrot, 2 rings of dried out green peppers, cucumbers that were not fresh, and carefully placed olives. Drinking glasses didn't appear to be particularly cleaned well as I could see lip stains on the rim. Husband ordered a fish sandwich that was over cooked, cole slaw was 90% slimy mayo, barely any cabbage. The fries seemed fresh. Juice was overpriced at 5.49 per glass. Whole meal was overpriced but just wanted to run out of there as fast as we could. As far as diners go, it's my favorite in Rockland. The other diners are either sub-par or WAY too expensive... Mt. Ivy has a super large menu, they're always willing to accommodate menu changes when I ask (and at no extra charge!), and the food is really good. I went to this diner in the past, and it was pretty good when freshly emerging from two days in the woods with only trail food to eat, but my wife and I went here recently and hoo boy was it a different experience when you're just trolling for a meal. My burger was meh, nothing with reviewing, but my wife got some calamari, and it was distinctly fishy and super-rubbery. Neither of us felt comfortable eating it after a few bites, and we sent it back. The manager was very concerned, and insisted that they had only the best, most fresh calamari in their kitchen. He said he had tasted it himself and didn't see the problem, to which I say that once you're used to something bad, you can't tell it's bad anymore. I'll repeat: steer clear. Place was clean and parking was nice. The place wasn't busy but it took us 20 minutes to get our drinks. The prices were insane. $6.99 for a single egg. I ordered two eggs and toast without looking at the menu. My two eggs cost $14 and the toast was an additional 1.79. Even with inflation that's ridiculous. There is a open catering fee? And a supplemental fee on top of the tax that's not including the tip. Juice was almost $5. A side of fruit was $4.99. A side of home fries was $5.99. What a rip off. I thought diners were supposed to be reasonable in price. Go here if you want subpar food, slow service and stupid prices. Such a regret to go here. I worked up the road at Summit Park / Robert Yeger Center , for decades, and would hit up here for lunch pretty regularly. They have had a fairly recent facelift , and the place looks great , and is clean and looked after. Quite A Turnaround In Appearance The inside of this diner is picture-perfect, for the 1960s, but then COVID hit & the owner did the unexpected. No, he did NOT renovate the interior, he added six little outside huts, complete with finished roofs, wood frames & plastic walls, with a plastic-covered wood framed door. They each come with both an above heating unit & separate propane heater to warm your feet if you get cold. As for some of the past food reviews, you will note most are old. Things have changed for the better. My wife & I went for a early Easter dinner & the food was fantastic. I had the chicken francese with penne pasta. The portions were generous & the flavors were great. My wife had the broiled salmon with vegetables & she loved it. Our waiter, John, was very friendly & professional. This is a typical NY/NJ diner with a massive menu. The food was fair, but what I did not like was that we were there as a party of 7 with one check. They put the tip on the bill in the middle of the items so as to make you not notice it unless you checked the bill closely as I always do. One other person in our group who got the bill first did not see it and said it was not included as he looked at the bottom of the bill only. I believe this is done to scam customers into leaving a second tip. My other concern although I did not pull out my calculator, is that the way they list the tip it is being taxed when they add up the items to apply sales tax. If you have a large group be sure to scan the check as they do not appear to be honest about adding in the gratuity. read more
