With only 316 miles on my car since my $280 oil change, this morning my oil pressure light went on. I pulled over and turned off the car to find it has no oil in it. It was towed to a nearby shop, I missed a day of work and ubered home for $104. It turns out they left the gasket from the old filter on the car and all the oil blew out. who knows what kind of engine damage my car now has. I have a 1973 Grumman Olson Step Van I've been slowly bringing back to life. I have worked at multiple shops over the years and usually perform all my own repairs. I have been wrenching since I was little and consider myself fairly experienced. I dropped my van off at Country Automotive for a brake and light inspection so I can register my van with the DMV. A lot of mechanics don't take the time to do proper inspections or perform repairs at a professional level anymore but Country Automotive does. They obviously take pride in what they do and have my business from here on out. My van has a full floating axle that has to be removed for a rear brake inspection. When inspecting the rear brakes they found that the rear hub seals had failed leaking gear oil from the differential which ruined the new brake shoes I installed. After measuring the drums to ensure they were within spec they took the time to wash the drums as well as the bearings in their parts cleaner and found that the bearings were pitted and needed to be replaced. I am greatful they found this issue and repaired it as I would have been dealing with this down the road and left stranded. This level of inspection, attention to detail and quality labor is very rare these days. Most people would have replaced the seals, brake cleaned the drums, replaced the shoes and sent it on its way. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. I couldn't pickup my van during regular business hours so they hid my keys and paperwork in a secure spot after taking a credit card payment over the phone which was very accommodating and again appreciated. Mike and his team are amazing. The price is fair for the level of quality you are getting. Mike was even kind enough to work with me on pricing due to my budget. Bring them a pack of beer for their efforts as this amazing team deserves to be treated as well as they will treat you. read more

2019 May 29 Smitty and Elizabeth retired. It is the same ownership though. Ben still works there -- he knows cars through and through. He knows cars-before-computers -- he knows when cars were cars and not computers. In other words, he knows "how cars work." Valerie and Mike handle the front office. Before I proceed, let me define what a Body Control Module (BCM) is. A BCM is a computer circuit board which controls the vehicle's electronic bells and whistles, from electronic door locks to headlights. My vehicle's BCM is no longer available due to the van's advanced age. Evidently, brainless dolts at 1996 Dodge designed my minivan's electronics (I will never buy an American car again!). On my minivan, two things happened regarding the BCM: (1) the blinkers died; and (2) the "a door is open" warning-buzzer would not shut off ("ding ding ding ding" ad infinitum). I bought a couple used BCMs on eBay for cheap, neither of which worked properly. Taking the used BCM apart, I got to know it up close and personal, discovering that I could easily remove the circuit board's speaker. One-year and fifteen steps later, and $2,000 poorer, having been in-and-out of the local Dodge dealership and Country Automotive, the blinkers work fine and the buzzer's incessant soundings have permanently ceased. The blinkers: Ben did a custom override which bypassed the BCM. The buzzer-that-would-not-shut-off: he removed the BCM's speaker. We used to joke around that our minivan came down with a case of "buzzer-oma" (cancer of the BCM) and needed a "speaker-ectomy." Thank you, Ben, Valerie, and Mike, for your support and knowledge! I have twenty-two years going to them. [Car manufacturers and dealers hate people like us. We own our vehicles outright, and that is the best feeling ever. The vehicle is OURS! Sometimes when we buy a vehicle down in the Gilroy area we take it to Country Automotive. Smitty runs the shop here and it is located off the 101 freeway at Dunne ave. I have come to see him personally on many occasions to either pay for repairs or arrange transportation between businesses. His shop is really large with at least 4 or 5 bays and i think they do smogs too. Lots of parking in the lot or on the street. We have always been pleased with his work. I had some on-going problems with my Dodge truck that a few other repairs places could not seem to figure out. I knew something was wrong with it, but no one seemed to be able to get my truck running like it used too. I contacted Advanced Trucks Inc in Morgan Hill. I thought they did service there too and wanted a performance shop to take a look at my truck. They referred me to Country Automotive in Morgan Hill, as they do not do engine repairs. I looked up Country Automotive and they seemed to have a pretty good reputation. I called them, decided to give them a try and set an appointment. I talked with one of their mechanics when I dropped off my truck. He figured out my main problem with just a short conversation about what was going on. I found that Country Automotive is great. They can do everything needed for automotive repairs in house. They have masters in all areas with many years of experience. I could not believe how quick they found the problem that no one else seemed to be able to. They also found a few other serious problems and fixed them all. The owner, Mike showed me all failed or failing parts that were removed and replaced when I picked up my truck. I could not believe no one else found these problems and some were serious safety issues, and a completely clogged catalytic converter was my chief performance problem. I had to get a break/ light inspection on my salvage vehicle. I had to make several calls before certified auto referred me to this business. I arrived there at 8:30. There was miscommunication about their hours. I was told to not bring my car in till 8:30 by the technician but I could have dropped my car at 8. (I'm a preschool teacher so the 8:30 drop off made me late for class.) however, I think the technician thought he was doing me a favor by saying a later drop off time. With that being said... the front desk manager was pleasant, knowledgeable and did everything she could to make my car drop off speedy. The technician who worked on my car (ran a break and light inspection,) was speedy and friendly over the phone. I just had my oil changed here. It was pointed out that two of the front lower lights were out (parking?) and I had those replaced while I waited. When the car was ready, I was told that there is a problem with te spare tire hold down. Smitty showed me the problem, the hold down wing stud was rusted into the lower nut. He wasn't able to loosen it, even with penetrating oil .I decided to take it home where I got it out with a wrench, cleaned it all up and greased the assy. Works great now. It would have been impossible for me or my wife to change a tire on the road if they hadn't noticed that. It has probably been that way for a long time, though a lot of oil changes (140,000 miles) at a number of places (dealer, Jiffilibe etc).
