But we were pleasantly surprised with our visit with Dr. Van. He and his team were excellent! Like others have already mentioned, I like how Dr. Van took COVID prevention to the next level, I have never seen any dental office staff using N95s or similar (usually just the dentists themselves). He also have "air filter" units in many areas, that makes me feel peace of mind. We feel he really does care for his patients and staff. He is very customer oriented and has a very happy vibe all the time :) He is willing to make time for his patients after the visit months ago to revisit a concern. Unfortunately my current insurance does not allow visiting this place but I certainly would when insurance plan changes. I guess you can pay cash price if you have the means (which we don't), the fees are little higher than others in my opinion. read more

This is my updated review. I am still so impressed with Dr. Van and the staff at Gilroy Pediatric Dentistry. My son had to have his teeth done and I wanted to get a second opinion. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by really nice staff and a welcoming environment. His whole office is decorated like a pirate ship. They even have little mini aquariums in front of the chairs for the kids to look at. When it came to getting my child's teeth done, the day before and the morning of, Dr. Van called me and answered all my questions to make sure my mind was at Ease. The Anesthesiologist they used, Dr. Targ, was amazing as well. He's very well known and has worked at Stanford and UCSF. He's told me that he's done this on over 10,000 Patients and that my child was going to be fine. I felt like I made an amazing decision going with Dr. Van and his team. If your little one hates the dentist, I really really recommend Dr. Van. My son had gone in there today for a third time and he didn't even cry this time. Seeing my son happy and comfortable is an important thing. Dr. Van did just that. He also helped us figure out how to help wean my son off the pacifier. I recently took my one year old daughter to visit Dr. Van thinking it was too early. After speaking to him he taught me that it was the most ideal time to go! I was in the boat (no pun intended) of baby teeth are temporary and can take some neglect, but after his analysis and explanation, it helped me demystify and accept the reality that baby teeth are very important to take care of. The overall experience was pretty splendid as well. I think Dr. Van and his staff do work hard to make these dental visits as pleasant as they can. We've always had great experiences with Dr. Van and his team however today's appointment was above and beyond my expectations. Sandi, the receptionist was fabulous. Prior to the appointment, she took the right amount of time to talk to me about the new procedures. I let her know that I had major concerns with Covid given one of my children is in the high-risk category. She was very informative and kind and gave me the time I needed to answer all my questions without making me feel rushed. She is the reason I booked the appointment. The in-person experience was just as fabulous. Between the Covid checks, all of the new equipment like air quality machines, UV lights, multiple masks on the hygienists, the air pack they had to wear, the new permanent dividers and so much more, I felt confident they were trying to keep us all healthy. I love that each of the hygienists wore a name tag that included a picture of them since their faces were covered. Great touch! Everyone of the hygienists worked great with my children! They were very kind and patient. I highly recommend this practice! read more

DO NOT USE DR.TARG! He is the anesthesiologist that Dr. Van's office uses. Though, he is medically proficient, he is incredibly rude and he will steal your money and lie to you that he is advocating for you through your insurance. He makes patients pay upfront for his services (the whole portion), and says that you will be reimbursed through your insurance for what should be 80 percent. He will then take what little money the insurance sends him (not you, the person who already paid him in full) and take another 12 percent off (even though that was never part of any agreement and he already was paid $840 an hour). I was very proactive with this and spoke to him and the Dentists office before and after this procedure. Dr. Van assured me that he trusted Dr. Targ and that the insurance would indeed cover this. I felt very deceived by this whole experience and this has financially and emotionally put a strain on my family. I let Dr. Van know upfront the deceptive practices that have been used in his office and he says he will continue to use Dr. Targ no matter his lack of integrity or forthrightness. Seek elsewhere if you need to use an anesthesiologist for your child! Dr. Van is a caring dentist who treated my son's teeth (that were neglected sorely by a family dentist). I wouldn't trust that anesthesiologist with a dime though. read more

This dental office is amazing!! I have twins and a four year old and because of a very busy schedule I often have to make their dentist appointments and doctor appointments at the same time.. my twins are two and one did great with the cleaning and the other was scared. The dentist and hygienist were very patient and Dr. Von really wowed me. He took his time with each child and I walked out feeling great instead of stressed and feeling bad because most places I feel rushed and pressured by annoyed offices because I have muiltiple children. I did not feel that way once here.Everyone was very friendly and I would recommend them to anyone!! Even when one twin was scared to get his teeth cleaned, Dr. von asked to give him a minute instead of trying to pressure him . This was my son's first time going to the dentist and I have to say it was a really good first experience for him. The nautical/boat theme is great for the kids to feel more comfortable the tablets and activities keep them busy while they wait. We have been going to Gilroy Pediatrics Dental for the last year. We came from San Jose and was worried it would be difficult in finding another dentist that my kids would feel comfortable with. Well...we sure did! I can't say enough great things about Dr. Van. He is so kind, patient, and sensitive to my kids fears of the dentist. He takes the time to explain every step of his appointment. He does not rush any procedures (I have had that experience in the past) You can truly sense that he enjoys his job and enjoys working with children. His support staff is also great too. First off this place is such a cool looking place to bring a kid. Inside the office it looks like a boat complete with portholes to look at real fish! My baby is almost 2 with a mouth full of teeth and I had asked other mothers who took their children in to the dentist what to expect and most say the dentist just looks at their teeth and gets them used to someone looking in their mouth. Dr. Van however showed me how to use the "buddy" system and did a full teeth cleaning for my little one, complete with flossing, brushing, and flossing! I was really impressed! He has a very good demeanor with kids and made the whole appointment a fun first time experience for my little one! Plus he has all these "extras" to make the office even more fun for kids, ie the prize/toy box, ringing the bell for no cavities, and even a family day that he hosted for everyone with balloon animals and shaved ice! I have been taking my kids to this office for a while now and have always been pleased with the services. This last time I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Van. He was amazing! All of the staff are great. They are very well prepared for the little ones (mine are 2 &4) and were helpful through out the visit. There are engaging activities in the waiting room and special treats after each visit, plus great views from the examination tables. You get to see Nemo, Dori and a new addition Eli the Eel (I just made that name up ..lol). I was extremely satisfied with the overall visit. Dr Van was well received by my kids. Where do I start with this review? I wanna say Dr. Van has replaced Dr. McKeever. When I was young and went to McKeever, he TRAUMATIZED me. So I'm having a bit of a dental emergency with my son and went to see Dr. Van, hoping he would be a better dentist. Honestly I don't know who's worse. My child is pretty immature and scared of the dentist because he doesn't know what's gonna happen. Van wasn't sympathetic to him and the billing lady called him by a different name. Van had an attitude like there was something wrong with my child. He also messed up by going over how another patients appointment went in front of me. So unprofessional. All of these 5 stars reviews must be from friends or from people's children who are "perfect"! Never EVER coming back! Oh yeah, why are you a pediatric dentist if you don't have compassion for all children ass-hole! So it's been about a month since my son and I visited Dr. Van's office. I've cooled off a bit from when I first wrote this review. I forgot to mention that Dr. Van evaluated my child and asked if he had sensory issues. LOL this guy is a straight-up comedian. Let me ask you if you remember the dentist when you were a child dr. van? If you were a robot then everything went fine. If your child is active like mine and don't like strangers in his mouth or is a typical child that isn't fond of brushing his teeth, run from this dude. His only suggestion to us was to i.v. sedate my child and do his entire mouth. Suggesting that when a child comes in to get i.v. sedated for his treatment and comes out with a butched mouth that isn't traumatizing for a 5 year old? Also this office as well as many others suggest i.v. sedation because the doctors keep telling me they are contracted with the anesthesiologist by the name of Tarq.
