Compared to a few other local Chinese restaurants I've tried, Gin Gin's food is fresher and less greasy. The individual flavors of the vegetables come through distinctly. The Sesame Tofu is exceptional. Each piece is fried just enough to form and firm, golden outside. Try the Sautéed Ka Le. It's a type of broccoli with a leafy top instead of florets. went to Gins again and we are still very happy about the food. we ordered the boneless spare ribs, I'm a workaholic and man these were the best even better than some of the Chinese places in Manhattan. I was referred to this place from my international friends from school who say it is one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area, as far as authenticity is concerned. Secondly, the food is a hit or miss depending on what you get, I've heard the American Chinese dishes are nothing special but the authentic dishes are superb. Chicken with eggplant = bomb.com . I live very close to NYC and if someone told me they wanted to drive 6+ hours to have the house special chicken chop at Gin Gin's I would have to take a very serious pause to remind myself I am responsible for small children and cannot abandon them. Hands down the WORST Chinese food I've had in Buffalo and the surrounding area. The fried rice has an aftertaste that I can only describe as cigarette smoke. The general tso's chicken was way too tangy and was almost inedible. The chicken & broccoli is mushy and flavorless. How can you mess up chicken & broccoli?! This was my place. I loved it. Eat in or take out since before it was located at its current spot. Sad to say the quality for takeout has declined over the past year or so, but I kept hoping and going. The counter service has always been super. Table service good, but a bit slow. But sadly the food is not consistent anymore. I don't know what happened but the last straw for me was my last visit. I placed my order and waited. I finally got home to my egg drop soup, steamed dumplings and chicken chop with garlic sauce made a plate and noticed something was a bit off. I didn't finish but sadly that little bit was enough to make me ill in the middle of the night. The only thing I had eaten that day. Very sad and disturbing. 20 plus dollars in the garbage. Just For those who are looking for real Chinese food---Really really not authentic here...we group of five went there and so disappointed by their service and food. We ordered "shou is bao cai" and "ma po tofu" a traditional Chinese dish, the waitress didn't say anything ,when the food came out, it's totally different than the authentic one we ate in China!! Anyways, this place is pretty legit and just might be the best Chinese restaurant in Buffalo. First of all, it looks like a restaurant which is more than I can say for a lot of the run-down take-out Chinese dumps I've seen around. Second, the lady that works here is super nice (opposite of the lady at Uncle John's). She even told me that if stuff I want isn't on the menu, I can just order it in Chinese and they can probably whip it up for me. I guess its Okay if you don't eat Chinese often, and want a lot of choices. The menu is enormous. But the dishes suck, and taste like crap. The bubble tea sucks too, its always chalky and sometimes they don't put ice in their drinks. If you want "chow-fun" that is kinda similar to chow-fun, or beef with egg & tomato with ketchup instead, try it out. Have been a customer when it was in the old location. The price good (esp. for student), the serving size is huge (try ma-po tofu, you will know what I mean). Even I have moved out Buffalo for years, I still visit this place when having trip back. We always have the "house chicken fillet ", fried crispy chicken fillet with curry sauce. It is one of our favorite. Lots selections on its menu, ask the owner (very sweet and talkative) for recommendation if you have hard time go through the menu by yourself. This place doesn't offer traditional waiter service so be aware when you walk in. You need to ask for your water and anything else you might need. The menu itself is vast and may take a few minutes to read through. The owner has a very pleasant attitude and is welcoming and helpful. She is usually swamped with customers and should you choose to dine in, BE PREPARED TO WAIT. I have been to this restaurant three times, and each time I had to wait up to 45 minutes for my order. Some may find this wholly unacceptable, and they are entitled to their opinion. Most of us are used to Chinese food that is pre-prepared and ready in about ten minutes: this is not that kind of restaurant. I feel that if the owner would just make it known to all her customers that the food is fresh and made to order, she would save herself and many people from so much anxiety. I admit that I am a pain in the neck customer. I have high standards and will not let them slip. In general, I find the wait service in most Buffalo restaurants to be seriously lacking, but if the food is excellent and the service is friendly, I am willing to overlook these inadequacies. The wait time for the food at this restaurant takes too damn long, even for my liking. So many improvements could be made if the owner would hire a wait staff. I, however, feel too much anxiety when I dine in at Gin Gin because of the disgruntled, impatient, and unsatisfied customers I see every single time I go there. Don't believe the good reviews! We eat at Chinese restaurants all the time and this is the absolute worst! This place is a negative 100! We stopped here for dinner and got 4 combos - two beef with broccoli, lo mein, and shrimp with vegetables. None were good! All had the exact weird sour flavor! Our food was so bad, we ate less than half of it (wouldn't even have eaten this much but we we've been driving for hours and were really hungry). Not even soy sauce was able to save these foods. Also, I got egg drop soup and it was super salty! I couldn't even eat it after 1 taste. They watered it down and it was still nasty. Wasted $42!
