Tonight was our third visit to Ming Teh and we still love it. Layla assisted us choosing gluten free options and there are many to choose from. They use gluten free soy sauce as well and they make each dish individually to order. This is so nice because eating out at any Chinese food restaurant is difficult for us normally. Been going to this iconic restaurant in Fort Erie for years. Years ago you had to make a reservation two or three weeks in advance. Now you don't have the same problem. Same great food I remember. So I went here based on a recommendation that I received about it being good. Its just over the peace bridge so it didn't take long to get here. Upon arriving we were seated by a window. I didnt make reservations and the back room was reserved already as it was a Saturday,but we were able to see the water still. Its small inside but cozy. Our table had some water on it and the woman who seated us just wiped it off with her hand and then walked away. I ordered the crunchy sesame garlic chicken with a side of rice and we got beef and broccoli. The food took about 20 minutes to come and I was not happy at all. My fork was dirty so I asked for chopsticks which were then placed on the table that was clearly not thoroughly clean. The chicken didn't have a bad flavor, but it was basically just a crispy coating and no real meat. Some pieces were so hard it was hard to believe they served me that. I told the server when she asked how it was, but she made no attempt to see if I wanted anything else or to rectify the bad quality,just said oh sorry. My husband did enjoy his beef and broccoli , but said it was nothing special worth coming back for. I'd personally never go back here. Beautiful setting with picture windows facing the Niagara river is awesome. But wait. What about the food and service like? Well as other reviews state it's really a very lovely dining experience. Service is attentive, informative and unrushed. We ordered soups, fried dumplings as appetizers. Then we split an entree order of hot and sour fried rice with pork, chicken and shrimp and a whole Peking Duck between 4 adults and were so happy. It was such a big surprise because 2 had never had the Peking duck and the fried rice seemed like a weird choice but it was a perfect counterpoint to the richness of the duck. We drove from Buffalo, and the drive was definitely worth it. Our food was fresh, authentic, and delicious. We started with the fried dumplings. These had a thicker than normal dough, and a super juicy filling. They came with a dumpling sauce as well. I could have eaten about 3 more orders of these. I was obsessed. We ordered a lot of entrees. The beef and broccoli was thin, tender, and juicy. The stir fried vegetable noodles were thin and had a super umami flavor. The vegetables in the noodles soaked up the sauce beautifully. The Jasmine spare ribs were something I've never tried before, but they were sticky, moist, and full of flavor. We also got the crispy sesame ginger chicken - which lived up to it's name. Very crunchy and definitely ginger flavored, this was another dish like I've never had before. The restaurant was right on the river, which was really cool. It would be interesting in the daytime to see the boats go by. Our server was super friendly! Ordered hot and sour soup, vegetable dumpling and moo shu pork with hosein sauce which is an extra 75 cent option which I think should be included without extra charge. Everything tasted fine. Pleasantly surprised that the server put together the pancakes for the moo shu pork. Also surprised that there were no chopsticks available as part of the table setting. There was only one server and there were only a couple of patrons at 1 pm on a Sunday. They open late at 12 noon. To finish off our anniversary celebrations, my boyfriend and I had reservations for one of their special dinners, which was a dim sum night. We only just found out about this place after my realtor told me that she comes here often because it is that good. Buffalo really doesn't have great Chinese food, or if they do, I have not found it. I love that Ming Teh has a huge window overlooking the river. It is a great spot. The interior is wonderfully decorated and I really loved the entire experience. The service was fantastic. I can't tell you what we had, but we had many courses. The standouts to me included the vermicelli and beef noodles, the steamed crab dumpling and the sesame roll stuffed with bean paste. I also liked the scallion pancake a lot. Each dish, though was very good. We can't wait to come back and try items off the menu. My wife wanted to try this place out for her birthday today, and we are both so glad we did. We had soup, spring rolls, and split two dishes. She had the stir fried chicken and shrimp with cashews and almonds (33 on the menu) and I had the deep fried fish in sauce of garlic, bean paste, ginger, chili pepper, and minced pork (86 on the menu). We have always enjoyed Chinese food, but this was another level of good! When they say that their food is different, each dish from another and their food from any other Chinese restaurant we have ever tried, believe them. It was wonderful. My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a weekday in September. We wanted an outing on one of the last days of summer. We decided a drive along the Niagara Parkway in Canada and lunch at Ming Teh was the answer. The food was as good as we remembered. Always a treat to go to Ming Teh's. Like many others, we come from land down under (Buffalo, NY) . Funny telling friends we go to another country for great chinese food. Personal favorite is #65 (Dry Fried Chewy Beef Strips with Ginger & Garlic). So good and different. Like eating beef "Candy!" Fun to explore other dishes as well. Don't waste your money, Happy Jacks DEFINITELY better, after waiting for almost one hr for our food it finally came but in spurts not all at once. Everything was very bland and the fried rice had a very vinegary flavor to it as well as being mushy. One of the tables that came in after us actually stopped at our table and told my husband and I that they felt bad because we waited so long for our food‍ on top of everything our waitress who I think may have been the owner was very abrupt and slightly rude. My husband and I were over the border for an evening away, and opted for dinner at Ming Teh. The outside of Ming Teh is very colorful and inviting. Inside, the dining room is comfortable and overlooks the Niagara River. It was a beautiful view for dinner at nearly sunset. Ming Teh doesn't have a full bar, but about a dozen mixed drinks on the drink menu, and a variety of wines. We started with cocktails, a straight-up martini and fuzzy navel. Both were well made. For appetizers, my husband tried the saki soup and we shared the vegetable dumplings. The saki soup was an interesting flavor, but not very hearty, mostly broth. The vegetable dumplings were delicious, a steamed soft dough with a sauerkraut'y tasting filling. My husband ordered the Jasmine Spare Ribs for his entree. He RAVED about the sauce, sweet and sticky brown-sugary YUM. The spare ribs themselves were juicy and meaty, but not huge. I ordered the tangerine crispy bean curd. Now that portion was HUGE, a full large plate with a pile of big pieces of crispy tofu coated in another delicious sticky and sweet sauce. The flavors were on point, but the tofu was a bit too crispy, and was hard to cut with the butter knife at the table. One shortcoming of both dishes too was they were served as just the protein, no veggies at all. My tofu dish was huge, and would still be an ample portion of tofu if it was cut by a third and served with some steamed broccoli. But overall we were still pleased with our orders, and intrigued by other menu options. As a vegetarian, I saw several other veggie dishes I'd like to try, like the spicy noodles in peanut sauce. And my husband would go back again to try other meat dishes, or even to get the Jasmine spare ribs again for that delicious sauce. The scenery is beautiful, the dining room is comfortable, the service was kind and attentive, and we were generally happy with our meal at Ming Teh, definitely enough to look forward to doing it again the next time we're in Fort Erie. I am beyond impressed with this food. I came here for dinner. The place was pretty packed, our server told us it would probably be a while for our food. We did not have to wait long at all. We ordered a spicy crunchy sesame ginger chicken and chewy beef strips. If you go here order these things and you'll be so happy you did. Wow! The best Chinese food in Buffalo is actually right over the border in Fort Erie!!! It's literally 5 minutes across the border, and so close! The worst part, of course, is the traffic at the border... But if you can get over it (literally), it is definitely worth it! While we parked on the street, we did notice a parking lot behind the restaurant (afterwards). Upon walking, I noticed how EMPTY it was in there! At this time, it's around 7:30pm Wednesday evening. We were seated immediately, and brought to a room towards the back, where 2 other sets of patrons were seated. While we were seated, we heard the waitress mention that this night was the slowest night of the whole summer as it's normally super packed, so I guess we accidentally came on a "good night". We ordered wonton soup, kang po chicken, and beef with green onions. The wonton soup is NOTHING like what I've had in the States! It was so good and so flavorful, I was really surprised that I've never had wonton soup THIS GOOD before!! The other 2 dishes were also spectacular and very good. Ming Teh on a winter night: the lights of the Peace Bridge twinkle in the darkness of the Niagara River out the window. All around you are surrounded wood and evocative art, giving you the feeling of being in the sumptuous captain's quarters of a ship drifting down the waterway. Your body warms with tea, and dumplings leaven your spirits. But you aren't prepared for the main courses: some are like nothing you've ever tasted before. You're especially intrigued by the escargot blended with slightly spicy noodles and the wontons that elicit an aftertaste of rosemary or thyme (the famous "fragrant clouds" that do somehow manage to taste fragrant). Some will tell you it is not what it once was. But Ming Teh remains unlike any other Chinese restaurant in the world. read more

I have heard about this place for years and have friends that drive from buffalo over the bridge for take out quite frequently. They love it. I finally stopped in for take out and while I know people are there for the food not the decor, I have to say the atmosphere almost made me lose my appetite a bit- and here's why- you know that great aunt who is a mild hoarder who has phone books from 1985 and magazines stacked up that are 15 years old? Maybe a plant or two with dust so thick they look light green or piles of papers and notebooks that haven't been touched in years so the paper is brittle? Throw in cobwebs and you've got the image down pat. Mentally I know it does great business so the food obviously turns over fast but somebody needs to go in there and deep clean and beat the rugs. I don't know how or why I've never written a review about this place. I used to see the former owner of this place at work and he was the sweetest man. That made me want to try out his restaurant, which did not disappoint with food or the atmosphere with his water color paintings. It has since changed hands, but the quality of their food has not changed one bit! I work in Fort Erie and order take out lunch from here regularly. A good go to dish is the #40, the spicy crunchy sesame ginger chicken. The small bites of chicken are exactly as described, crunchy, flavorful and spiced to your liking. They are always very careful to ask how spicy you'd like your dishes. I'm a hot spice girl, so I get everything including my chicken fried rice spicy. If you choose to do this be sure to say it's #144, not the hot and sour rice that they offer. I think you either love hot and sour or don't. Anyhow, my latest OBSESSION here is #123, the vegetable spicy noodles. These are very thin noodles stir fried in a delicious sauce with vegetables such as broccoli, onion, carrot and green beans! I'm normally quite the carnivore, but the spice of this sauce and the delicate noodles have made this one my new go to order at lunch time. Happy Jacks does not make us happy. Ming Teh is our happy place. We've gotten to the point where we know what we're getting before we get there. Two 1.5 liters of wine for our table over the couple of hours we'll bogart the table? Yep! Soup (cabbage for me, sake for my husband, wonton for most others?) Yes. Fried dumplings? Yes. Shrimp toast when we remember to call ahead? ABSOLUTELY yes (we found out about this at their Chinese New Years event and it is seriously delicious). Dry fried beef? Yes. Fragrant clouds? Yes. This place really puts out amazing dishes, piping hot, and fast! The staff is friendly and you cannot go wrong with any entree. Tonight we enjoyed spring rolls with 2 choices for sauce, plum or spicy mustard. I tried both and I loved both. The wonton soup was flavorful and so hot! My husband had the moo she pork and he mercifully shared one prepared by the staff with me. I've never had one and it was amazing. We also had the chicken mushroom and broccoli dish and the Chicken fried rice. We took our leftovers to go for us to enjoy tomorrow. This place never ever disappoints for dining in. Especially with the water view of the Niagara River. Ming Teh is the epitome of Chinese cuisine in the general Fort Erie, Crystal Beach, and Buffalo area. It's flavors are authentic, yet original; every dish we ordered was prepared perfectly and they even extended us the courtesy of providing a famous dish from Mainland China that we had specially requested, and let me tell you, it tasted just as good as it did in Shanghai. I would consider this my hands down first choice for chinese food whenever I am craving it. I am very picky about my restaurants, and I have to say, it is simply the best. I am still currently sitting at my table at Ming Teh as I write this review. I just finished eating my spicy, crunch, ginger sesame chicken, my white rice, and my chewy beef strips (I'm pretty sure I'm missing a word, but whatever). I can honestly say that this was the best Chinese food I've had in both New York and Ontario, hands down. The beef strips are exactly as they were described on the menu. The are chewy, covered in some amazing sauce, and a little crunch at the same time. The chicken is tender, lathered in sesame and garlic sauce, and probably some of the best Chinese chicken I've ever had in my life. The rice is white rice, but dang it, it was really good as well. This place is a pretty good size but very busy on this Saturday night. I highly recommend anyone in the area come give this place a shot. Tried some of the dishes recommended here, and that may have been a mistake. The won tons in the soup were heavy and doughy, not at all appetizing, though the broth was quite good. Crunchy dry fried beef strips were all crunchy and dry-fried and very little beef, and what there was was tough and tasteless. Almost inedible. A shrimp and chicken stirfry dish was merely OK, except for the fact that it contained the kind of canned peas and carrots that you don't expect to see anywhere higher than greasy spoon level. read more

This might be the best Chinese food I've had. One of the driving factors for me to get my Nexus pass. Stopped at Ming Teh's for lunch on the way home from a day trip to Niagara on the Lake. The food was excellent. We had an order of the steamed vegetable dumplings, Beef with Tangerine Peel & Garlic and spicy rice vermicelli with chicken, shrimp, pork and vegetables. Everything was delicious and the Beef with Tangerine was probably my favorite. It has the right amount of spiciness. The dumplings take 20+ minutes because they are hand rolled in house. Our waitress asked us if we wanted to wait to put the full order in until the dumplings were ready. We were hungry so we declined. The rest of our order came before the rest of our food. It was also server with white rice. Place was very quiet for lunch. Only two other tables were occupied. We sat in the back room that has a view of the river, Peace Bridge and part of Buffalo. I think I was just disappointed in the dumpling choices. I believe there were only two. I think they're made fresh so I just wish that they could offer more options. I'd order them all!
