Vegetable Biryani, rice cooked too much and seasoning wasn't blended well either.
    Nicole C.

5 stars for service, 2 for the vegetable Biryani, hard pass for future visits, rice not separated and cooked too much and didn't like the way it was seasoned. I rarely crave Biryani but when I do I won't think of this place unfortunately. Very dissatisfied for $17.

How the app is presented via doordash

So I want to be fair in this review. I ordered from Ginger Indian Cuisine on Friday night through doordash delivery. I ordered the bindi (okra), the baingain (eggplant), and then I took advantage of the buy one get one aloo tiki chaat. My first issue is with the chaat. Despite being a great deal, no where (pic is included) does it state that there is yogurt covering this dish. The dish is described as "deep fried crispy potato patties covered with chickpeas and chutney. Vegetarian." This is unacceptable. You guys NEED to make clear any allergen ingredient. By leaving off the advertising of the yogurt topping you are opening yourselves up to a world of comped dishes through doordash. I scraped off and tossed as much of the yogurt as I was able to get off of the dish as for me it makes my stomach not feel great. The rest of the dish was actually really tasty. But that is just so foolish to not list the one allergen ingredient considering how much is covering the dish. The pic on the doordash app also gives zero indication that there is yogurt on top. Please update this and ALL dishes that need to clearly advertise an allergen ingredient. The second issue is the lack of complementary rice with the entrees. To be fair I think generally it should be a separate item since you guys are clearly purchasing an ingredient and therefore it should be something the guest purchases. But, it is truly not outside the realm of possibility based on how those of us who have ordered Indian cuisine in the past generally have received an order of rice with entrees. Again the issue here is the lack of proper advertising information. If your entrees do not include rice...JUST WRITE THAT. Happy to order rice...if I know I have to order it. All this takes is stating that our entrees do not include rice. Write it at the header of all of your entree categories. Problem solved. The third issue, and aside from the giant dollop of yogurt on my chaats, the only taste issue I had was the baingain. Way too oily. I am usually cool with a little bit of excess oil, but man this was a little much. I did end up tossing the majority of this as the oil was just too much Outside of the baingain all of the problems could easily be solved by updating your apps and online menus (I used doordash as mentioned but I took a look at the menu on your guys' website and it too lacks a lot of critical and necessary info). The baingain wasn't to my liking but not gonna love everything you eat. The seasoning on what I did have was actually really solid (my biggest issue with places that aren't Viks or Besharam is the lack of seasoning: salt, acid) and I will say I would like to order again but this time with a little more helpful knowledge. So one more time: Update your apps to include and advertise any ingredient that is an allergen, especially dairy State whether or not your entrees include rice Tried to make this review as critically fair as possible. I know you guys actually respond to customer feedback. Hopefully you understand where I am coming from.

Modest space belies excellence in the kitchen. Ask for the cauliflower paratha. Even the rice is extra tasty. But don't go there in a hurry.

If you didn't know, know ya…read moreknow...located essentially across the way from CAL in Berkeley, East Bay Spice to me is a hidden gem filled with such nostalgic memories shared with friends over the years. They closed for a time, and now seem to be thriving again! Heading to the Greek for a weekend show, we wanted to pop in somewhere close-by. We cozied up to bar seating, and enjoy a couple of martinis featuring local gin and vodka, and ordered some food to share: the Original Tikka Masala Flatbread (we had to finally try it!), and the Sev Puri Chaat (first time trying this ever!). Service was amazing, and if I could write this review purely on the originality and creativity of the menus, I would (see pics!) The menus were CD cases (remember those, ha) with a fun take on 'Spice Girls', titled 'East Bay Spice Company'. For Spice Girls fans, you will recognize what album this was derived from. Each page of the cd book was a different part of the menu, including drinks, happy hour (from 2-6pm), and food. So fun, and unlike anything I've ever seen before. The food was so fresh and delicious. Loved the pomegranate seeds and lightness from the Sev Puri Chaat, bite size garbanzo bean/potato goodness! And standing O for that flatbread..pro-tip: get a side of the Tikka Masala sauce to pour on top. Absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan of Tikka Masala, and having that sauce be a base for a pizza...come on!! We did chicken as the protein. Overall, so happy to return and have East Bay Spice back apart of the Berkeley rotation again. Small, dimly-lit, cool digs. Also check out their sister spots: Tap in Lounge and Tipsea in Berk, Blue Rabbit Bar off San Pablo, and Lemon Drop in Alameda.

The presentation was impeccable, and the sauce was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The chicken seemed like a leaner cut, possibly breast, but it was still tender and not overcooked. I thoroughly enjoyed this plate and would 100% come back to order it again. My husband ordered the flatbread, though I can't remember the exact name, and it was surprisingly delicious as well. It tasted almost like a pizza version of the chicken tikka masala, making it a great shareable option if you're looking to snack, chat, and enjoy cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, the bartenders seemed very knowledgeable and helped me choose a drink based on my preferred spirit and cocktail style. I ended up with the Skeleton Key, which was strong, but still paired well with the meal. I'd happily come back to try more cocktails and, of course, order that chicken tikka masala again.

Combined, it means "Lord of the Stars" Near the corner of MLK and Shattuck Ave- across from Trader Joe's is this nice little vegetarian Indian restaurant. A recommendation from a client I had today directed me here before my trip home over the San Rafael Richmond Bridge. I found a parking spot right around the corner. One space from the corner is Udupi Palace and the Corner space is a Turkish restaurant that once was a breakfast spot that I used to frequent back in 1984. A memory jolt from times long ago when I worked for a minute across the street at a modern furniture store-"The Apartment Store." Chrome, glass, and marble home furnishings that took several months to deliver and required a 50% deposit. A strange business model indeed! To my delight, my meal came much quicker. A nice portion for my curry entrée which came complete with rice, Poori: Deep-fried, puffed whole wheat bread, and I believe a piece of Papadum: a thin, crisp wafer made from lentil flour. VEGETABLE KORMA: Fresh vegetables cooked with cream and mild spices.(Served with rice, poori or chapati pickle, raita and papad.) $15.95 Friendly service as well and I was offered extra rice, complementary.
