We found Mahak Indian Cuisine via 2G2G and have been back a few times since! Although a small restaurant there are a decent amount of tables for indoor dining. It's clean and open. We've tried their chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, saag paneer with rice and naan. Everything we tried was delicious with deep authentic flavors. There was a generous amount of chicken in both the tikka masala and butter chicken. Their portions are big enough to share with at least 2 people. The mango lassi's are great here too and complement the food perfectly! The prices are quite reasonable for the quality and portion size you're receiving. I was talking to the owner the other the other day about what to order next time...it's been decided, I can't wait to come back and try their fish curry and aloo gobi! I just enjoyed the most delicious chicken tikka masala here - came with rice, and naan. (Too good to go deal $5.99). My stomach is extremely full and happy right now. Pick up was easy- the owner waiter seemed to lack enthusiasm but that seems common in most restaurants. read more

Got the lamb vindaloo with a group DoorDash order and it was yum and so well packaged! The sauce did leak out on the corners so make sure that you keep the food upright! I've tried their food twice from the Too Good To Go app. The first time was curry chickpeas and it came with rice and naan. The second was the Curry chicken. It's small place with about 8 tables, but the staff is pleasant and my food is always ready. There was enough for me to have it for dinner and lunch. The flavor is good, but toned down for non-indian folks and a little too greasy for me as told by the 1/2 oil that was layered on the top. But they don't waste their food and a great way to try a new place. I will be back to eat in person or at least try some other foods on their menu. read more

The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted delicious, with the tender chicken easy to bite and the sauce was flavorful, creamy and paired well with the rice and naan. The naan was standard, warm and soft and easily absorbed the sauce. For the space, the restaurant is big, clean and welcoming. The staff was also friendly. I don't know if we got unlucky, but when we went, it smelled incredibly bad, comparable to that of a porta potty. It was unbearable, and we had to leave the restaurant within 5 minutes. I would avoid, there are far better Indian restaurants nearby like Noor. read more

I ordered delivery here, and decided to get my money's worth by having multiple main dishes. I ordered navrattan korma, shahi paneer, and mango lassi, and put in the notes/requests to make both dishes mild. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of the rice and pleased by their generosity, though I realize that the amount of rice made sense because I had ordered two main dishes. But still happy to have a carton stuffed full of saffron rice; usually when restaurants provide rice it's white rice by default. Also, the food was delicious. I love the combination of flavors with dairy, and definitely tried to make the food last as long as possible. My one minor gripe is that the containers, which are aluminum foil and covered by thin paper and foil, seem a little prone to leaking at the corners; I saw some of the food stain from that when I took my food out of the bag. It's also tricky to take these lids off and put them back on without getting your hands into the food, which isn't great during COVID-19 if you're not already super prepared with gloves or other tools. read more

I had lunch here with a friend on a recent weekday. There was only one other table occupied! We sat in a nice sunny window and we both had vegetarian lunch specials. We ordered our food mild, and glad we did as it was still spicy. In addition I ordered nan and my friend ordered a tea. The total bill for the two of us with tax and tip was only $14 each! Incredible deal. Food was very good. Service was good and the restaurant was nice and quiet, perfect for meaningful conversation. I parked right out front. I order from Mehak using food delivery apps and they often get the order wrong. I've ordered chicken tikka masala and aloo saag, just to receive only the saag, more times than I can count. Ordered take out the other day and got chicken tikka masala, mixed tandori (tons of meat in the order) and chili chicken and a few orders of the pickles. Two of the orders came with rice. I always appreciate when these types of restaurants include the rice as most of them tend to charge extra for rice. All of the food was delicious and done well and packaged well. The pickles were a totally different kind of pickle and were inedible to me. They were awful, but that was not my main focus of the meal, so it doesn't effect my star rating. Just a FYI for someone who might be thinking of ordering them. If you are already familiar with this style of pickles and like them, you should be fine. We called in the order and it was ready to go when we picked it up. None of the meat was dry in my opinion and the flavors of each dish were rich and satisfying. I will certainly go back. This was a random visit at this restaurant while visiting Berkeley, and i had few friends for the lunch. This is by far a restaurant from hell in terms of their food which ironically is what people look forward to in a restaurant. Owners of Mehak restaurant doesn't seem to get this simple concept of good food. Its a absolute disgrace from a Indian diaspora perspective to see a restaurant selling food under the disguise of authentic Indian food. This is pretentious stupid food at best. People who seem be raving good reviews about this mehak restaurant,clearly haven't tasted real Indian food . its a orgasmic experience if one visits the right place, Mehak is clearly not that one. The food we ordered had loads of coloring , salty and absolutely tasteless.Even a seemingly ordinary restaurant by the side of a non de-script road in India would serve way better food than at Mehak restaurant. I live right off of Solano Avenue in Albany/Berkeley, which features at least five Indian restaurants. I have tried most of them and Mehak, which is NOT on Solano is worth the drive. The food is as good as any Indian restaurant we tried on Solano. But, in addition, its entrees are about $3 cheaper ($14 versus $17). Honestly, I don't know how they do it. They do a lot of takeout, but the dining room itself is generally pretty empty, which suggests to me that it is a hidden gem. Oh, the the beer (by the bottle) is very reasonably priced, too....$7.50 for a 22 ounce bottle of Taj Mahal. Perfect for sharing. read more

Mehak never disappoints. One of my favorite Indian spots in Berkeley/Oakland. Some things on the menu I don't see often at Indian or Pakistani restaurants like their Kashmiri naan. I was pleasantly surprised ordered on a whim just to experiment with something new. More sweet than savory. Chicken saag is one of my fav Indian dishes I usually get from pakwan but it's great here. We decided to try Mehak after buying a coupon from Restaurant.com. I have to say we are very pleased. We went there for a Sunday lunch and we tried the vegi samosas, garlic naan, lamb mushroom curry and Aloo Gohbi. We liked everything we ordered. The vegi samosas were great as one order comes with two jumbo samosas and were very filling already. We are giving the restaurant 5 stars because of the good food and service, plus it has white tablecloth and use regular china and utentils, unlike some restaurants which still use disposables even for dining in. The chicken was delicious. The bread was freshly made light and fluffy and paired well with the chicken sauce. 10/10 i definitely recommend

The attached photo is from before we ate the food, which is evident because if I had known how good the samosas were going to be, it's the only thing I would have posted a picture of. The picture posted is actually an optical illusion because in reality, the samosas are (each) the size of a medium size baby. To provide context the plate in the front is 8 inches in diameter and the plate in the back (with the massive samosas) are 40 inches in diameter. These samosas are enough to feed your entire family (yes, even the in-laws). One order gives you two samosas (equivalent to 16 king-sized meals). We ate the samosas first and were full for long enough that the rest of the food went bad and we had to throw it away. Let me be clear, these behemoths are not only Brobdingnagian in mass, but also in taste. Every bite caused me to stream tears in pure unadulterated ecstasy. I can only imagine the loving prep work and mountain of spices that went into making these samosas as satisfying as they are. Last night was the first time my son ever saw his father cry. And when we inevitably order from Mehak again, he will see it happen again. One star deducted for not providing enough sauce to accompany the whopping monsters. read more
