Coons!" loud enough to scare my daughter and my mother-in-law, who is Black. No family should ever have to experience that. What is just as upsetting is that the owners or staff did nothing. They did not ask these men to leave or make any effort to stop the hateful behavior. Silence in the face of racism sends a message. I'm sharing this to make others aware. If you are a person of color or have loved ones who are, know that this was our experience, and it did not feel like a welcoming or safe place. Racism has no place in our communities, and businesses have a responsibility to stand against it--not ignore it.
