This place is a total hidden gem in River North. I had a bad experience at another salon, so it had been a year since I had a haircut. Came here for my first time yesterday. I don't usually enjoy getting my hair cut. It's usually a mix of uncomfortable smiles and a lot of hoping I like what I look like when I leave. However, coming in here was different. I wasn't sure what to expect and somehow, 5 minutes in, I felt so welcomed and a bit at home. It was very clear everyone who workes there loves being there and enjoys each other's company. They value their clients (new or long time) regardless of who they are or how much money they look like they make. The owner, Gino, cut my hair and he knew exactly what to do. I've never felt so welcomed and cared for at any type of store or place of business. I'm so thankful I found this gem in the craziness of Chicago. I only cut my hair once a year-And that is only if my god-father is visiting from California because I don't trust ANYONE with my luscious locks.... I discovered Gino DiFranco Salon through a friend at work so I called to find out when they were available, pricing, etc. I was immediately greeted by Gino himself who asked me where I had heard about the salon, what my hair was like, and was trying to get me an appointment in as soon as possible. He was so sweet on the phone I couldn't wait to get there and meet him! It felt like we had known each other for years! Josie cut my hair and I could not be more pleased with it. I asked for layers which could get scary because some people go to town and make them choppy. I don't know how she did it, but the layers lay ever so beautifully and I feel like I have more volume in my hair. This entire place was a fantastic experience! I only know about Gino's because I happened to walk past it once since it's near my work. I was in dire need of a haircut and so I called and made an appointment. Gino greeted me as I walked through the door, by name. I was impressed! It's amazing how a simple thing like remembering your name makes you feel so much more at ease! My stylist, however, was Jo! In all the 24 years I have had long hair, she has cut my hair THE BEST. I've never had it feel so light, lustrous, or have my layers look so perfectly done. The prices are good and I feel pretty standard in Chicago, but the quality of the cut was worth so much more! I loved how she took the time so it me down and explain how much she'd cut off, where, why, how she was doing something, technique, why it's better to do it this way, styling techniques, etc! She was also very easy to talk to! She gave me a hug at the end (she's super sweet and friendly!) and Gino said goodbye as I left! I've never bothered to write a review (I've written 2 about them today!) but I was just so flabbergasted by the kindness of the people working there and the fantastic cut (my hair has never look so good before! It's insane! I've never walked away feeling this good about a haircut before) and the warm, comforting environment that ... I just had to! I hadn't been to see him for months due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but I was finally able to go last week. What a pleasure! First of all, safety....the salon is following all protocol in every measure. My temp was taken upon entry, masks were worn, there was plenty of sanitizer available, and Gino times his appointments so his customers are not exposed to others. Josephine did my hair and I had to get a color correction from a prior service I had elsewhere. She was able to correct my hair color and I love rich brown color that I have now! She took her time and even styled my hair with a curling iron. Her station was very clean and everything is very spaced out, they are managing COVID-19 the best way they can and I felt very safe. She takes her time with her clients, she becomes your friend, and she always tries to fit you in when possible.
