Pizza here is outstanding! Cheese calzone was absolutely delicious! Highly recommended.

Gino's: The (next to the)Hometown Slice. If you rearrange the town Lynbrook, you get Brooklyn, but not really. In middle school it was the best slice. I forgot how I love to get twisted up with a little garlic knot that the Italian guy hooks my family up with. And there is something about the sauce that is real tomatoey and a little sweet and just lovely. A little on the bready side. Greasy, with fresh thick cheese. Put it in the oven when you get home so you eat it hot as hell and make a freshy salad to help that go down. Fridays growing up I ODed on Ginos. I used to eat four slices. But after two now I'm ready to die. My parents are not diners, though my dad is a great cook, they neva eva go out to eat, and like to go with what's familiar. I have definitely had some of the best pizza ever in certain spots in NY and I am one of those Nyers who swears by it! This review needs to take a number of things into account. 1. The time of day (or night) you're looking to eat your pizza. 2. If it is late in the evening (or early in the morning, depending on how you look at it), you must ask yourself....am I willing to drive a few towns over to eat something other than fast food or go to a diner? If you're like me and you dont feel like driving to Oceanside or Franklin Square for bagels while in the mood for pizza, then this place rates a good 4 stars. The pizza isn't the best around, but after all the other pizza spots you may have preferred in the area are closed, Ginos is still lit up with the doors open ready to take on the crowds. If you have options (example : during daylight hours), I'd give Ginos a 2 star rating mainly because theres plenty of competion within walking distance where you'll find a superior slice. I will say though, that the counter help is always friendy and they can engage you in normal conversation (as opposed to a White Castle counter person). The place is in serious need of a remodeling, and I remember coming here many moons ago when I was in high school and thought that it needed some sprucing up then. It's by no means filthy, but neither was my grandmothers living room.......which is to say a change in flooring and a coat of paint could take you a long way. On to the quality of the pizza.......if it's 1pm on Wednesday the slice rates a 3 at best. If it's 1am on Wednesday.......it magically transforms into a 4 1/2 star slice. Gino's is one of 8 million pizza places within 5 square miles of Lynbrook... So, to set it apart from all the other places, here's a super abbreviated story about one time at Gino's -- (story is from a few years ago, so names and or actual quotes may be slightly embellished) My friend, who for this story we will call "Sandy," entered Gino's using the back door -- this is the door to the parking lot entrance, the one with the big sign on it that said "Come in, We're Open!" On this particular afternoon, it was very busy... The line practically wrapped around the place. Meanwhile, I had already ordered and gotten my pie with my friends.. we we're sitting at a table. We wave over to Sandy in the back to tell him to come over and join us, but first he'd have to navigate through the line. Now I admit, with a cursory glance it could be misconstrued that Sandy was trying to cut the line, but in actuality he was just trying to get to where his friends were sitting. This is when one of the workers behind the counter shouted - "You - you cutting the line - get to the back" "I'm just trying to get to my friends" - Sandy replied "Oh no -- you're not going to get out of this that easy! How'd you get in here!" the man scowled "Uhh.. I used the back door" -- Sandy said, a bit confused to why he was being asked this.. "No, nobody uses that door when we're busy! Nobody!" "I'm sorry.. I didn't know" - Sandy continued, "I'm just going to join my friends"... "NO! You're out! YOU'RE out!" -the man yelled back Now, this made Sandy mad, and he shouted back at the worker, and all the patrons just stared, speechless, unsure if they should trust their eyes and ears to believe what they just actually witnessed. From that day on Sandy has vowed to never step into Gino's again... I came here once. I will not be coming here again. I am giving a second star because the pizza itself tastes good. The attitude of the people who work here is unbelievably bad. I came in at first not knowing it was cash only and they were not at all polite about it. They laughed and outwardly mocked me with no shame or apology or even advising me the closest place to get some cash, which had it been done with some sensitivity or humanity would have made the experience understandable and OK. I was sitting at work one day thinking about how hungry I was. I didn't feel like going too far and the closest food establishment was White Castle, which doesn't even count as food in my book (sorry Harold and Kumar). So, I set my sights on the second closest, Gino's Pizzeria. I have always passed this place but never thought to try it. It wasn't busy when I went so I had some fun interacting with the guys behind the counter. The first thing one of them said to me was, "You're not from New York, are ya?". I looked up from the menu and replied with an inquisitive look and a huge grin on my face "How can you tell?". Apparently, my demeanor screams outsider, as he proceeded to tell me that my actions are slow and relaxed, unlike those of a New Yorker. However, I have met some slow and relaxed New Yorkers, most namely the sandwich artist who works at the Subway (the sammich place, that is) near the 7 train stop in Woodside. I think she takes 10 times as long to build a sandwich because she's really thinking about composition and placement. The pizza was OK. I've had many a slice of pizza in my day so I would rate the pizza as average. Nothing to write home about (because I'm an outsider, remember?). I got a piece of plain and buffalo chicken. My order came with complimentary garlic knots, yumm! They satisfied my hunger and I was ready to take on the rest of my work day. I've only had their Two Slice + Soda for $5 special, but it is absolutely worth it. The people working the counter are always friendly and you can't beat the price. The slices are large and have an exceptional crust that is thin, chewy and crisp on the bottom. They also have a nice demarcation line of sauce between the edge and the bed of cheese (my favorite part of the slice!) The cheese always has the perfect contrast between gooey and congealed - it's not falling off the pizza like some molten plastic - and the sauce has a nice kick. For a quick lunch on the go, stop at Gino's. Parking is tough on Sunrise Highway, especially since most Long Islanders can't parallel park to save their lives! read more

Gino's has the best Sicilian slice I've had outside of Brooklyn. Not the prettiest atmosphere (not that it matters for a mainly carry-out joint), but the staff is always friendly, and service is quick. Definitely worth the visit for a delicious late night slice. read more

Was in the area waiting for someone to get an MRI and happened to stumble upon this spot. Kept it simple and ordered regular slices and they were delicious. At first I was nervous because it looked like the pie was sitting for a while but I must have been wrong. If I am ever back I would have the Italian ice they have ($1 a scoop). read more

The closest Long Island pizza you can get to brooklyn taste. I crave this pizza for its perfect ratio of cheese to sauce and the fact that the tomato sauce is savory and not sweet. Additionally, the crust is crunchy on the outside and perfectly chewy on the inside. The best part? They're open until midnight on Friday and Saturday- so I can satisfy my pizza craving until late at night. Yummy! read more

I consider myself a Pizza Connoisseur and have tried the Best Pizza Places all over Long Island and this place has by far the best pizza On Long Island. I will go as far as saying they have one of the best slices in the world. There Pizza is Incredible. The best I have ever had. I have come here multiple times in the past 8 months and each time there Pizza is incredible. Sometimes it taste a little different but incredible every time. Open Mon - Sat: 9am - 1am (close on Sunday), this is the perfect place to go when you have a late night craving for pizza. Average thin hot pizza, good but nothing special. Garlic knots are OK. The place is small and it's a total dive but the people behind the counter are really nice. Interesting stuff happens at night. One time, half past midnight, my bf and some friends were having pizza at Gino's when a drunk couple with their two young children came in. They were raising hell and yelling at the poor people behind the counter for pizza, so the workers called the cops on them. During another late night excursion, this middle-age gentleman (who was not drunk at all) started telling me his life's story. It goes to show you that if you are lucky you may get some free entertainment along with you pizza. Not to far from the bars over at Rockville Center, so it's a good place to soak up some of the alcohol since it's open late. It doesn't look like much, but you can certainly have fun here. read more

This Ginos Pizza is super old school, one of the few I have seen left in the NYC area and yeah the pizza here is excellent, the guys who work here are wonderful, make you feel welcome. Its super old fashioned, the interior seems to be from the late 60s to early 70s which gives it character. I liked the Sicilian here but the regular slice was excellent too. The sicilian was very fluffy and light, not the typical crunchy ones you get at most pizza places. The regular was very thin and floppy, very old fashioned. They even have Mystic Ice Tea from the fountain here, I have not had that in years and yeah its better than Snapple Ice Tea. read more

I've been coming to Gino's ever since middle school. In high school I went here for lunch probably 4 out of 5 days in the school week. They don't have a huge variety of specialty slices but their regular slices in my opinion are second to none when compared to the other places in the area. The reason I like this pizza compared to most has to be because the dough and crust seem slightly under cooked and is chewy as opposed to crispy which I prefer so I guess if you like your pizza crispy or burnt I wouldn't recommend Gino's. The one drawback to Gino's is they don't post the prices on the menu so paying is sometimes a surprise when the prices go up. read more

My favorite regular slice in Long Island. I've known Phil the pizza man since I was 13 years old, and he has mastered the art of making Pizza. So happy the guys at Gino's acquired his services. Stuffed baked ziti slice is cravable. Love their little rolls (chicken, sausage & peppers, meatball, etc.) Unlike most pizza places that make a huge doughy roll, Gino's makes these little ones so that you can have a variety in one sitting or along with your pizza. Open late. Not much going on decor wise, no TVs, no beer/wine...but whatever, the pizza is awesome. read more

Prices are good, decor is faded and old. The guys are behind the counter are friendly and generous. I just can't eat the pizza. At some point the cheese got really greasy and that makes the rest of the pizza really rubbery at times. Great for a reheat or for an individual slice. read more

I had been wanting NY style pizza really bad and couldn't figure out where to find a good one so you know what I did? Pulled out my phone and searched for one close to my current location on yelp and I found this one.. And by coincidence I was driving right next to it so yup I felt like I was destined to come here. I entered and was greeted by the pleasant aroma of Italian food and also by the kind owner who was helping make the pizza... They had pizza by the slice but I wanted it fresh do I ordered a half pepperoni and half cheese for me and three others to share. We sat down and the chef brought over some complimentary garlic knots to our table he said they were for meanwhile we waited. A few minutes later the chef dropped by with the pizza, I took my first bite and was happy to declare that it was more than what I expected flavorwise I used to have a real good relationship with max's Pizza close to Far Rockaway but unfortunately the flavors were declining more and more through each visit. After baptizing my two slices of pizza with the crushed chili peppers I gulped them down and was in the mood for Italian ice so I ordered two scoops (small) it was really good and I really enjoyed my experience as did those that accompanied me here. I love this place and will return next time I'm visiting my hometown again! read more
