We went to Gino's on a weeknight during the summer, and it was just "ok". Because it was highlighted as their special, most of the table ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce. If it's your thing and you enjoy it, good for you. We did not: it has a cinnamon/spice taste and it just wasn't for us. Service was just ok: we ended up waiting a bit for food and the waitress forgot to bring us refills (she said she left them at the bar). Patio is really nice. Do not order the ahi tuna. The price for the portion is laughable. We asked for a very light sear, almost raw. It came overcooked and hot. Not how ahi should be served at all. The vegetables that came with it were ironically raw. They should have been cooked. read more

Always good food and service! In the summer I love the outdoor dining and in the winter I love the easy access via snowmobile.

I ordered the half-and-half (spaghetti and ravioli), and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. The spaghetti tasted like it had been pulled straight from the fridge, and the sauce was watery and bland. The ravioli seemed promising at first, but they must have been sitting too long because they were covered in the same awful sauce and had that unmistakable "reheated" texture. The entire plate felt like it had been microwaved--scalding hot on the outside, yet cold in the center. For the price, I expected better portion sizes and maybe even a small side salad, but what I got seemed more like a child's portion. Service was decent when I could get the bartender's attention, and while he was friendly, the overall experience wasn't great. As a snowmobiler, I also found it inconvenient that there was no designated parking. While that's a minor issue, it added to the frustration. Ultimately, the food quality, portion sizes, and lackluster service are why this is a one-star review. If you visit, maybe try the pizza--just avoid the pasta. read more

One word- mediocre. Stopped in this place starving after a beach day, and honestly the only reason we thought it was good was because we were both starving and willing to eat anything. Service was mediocre-- server was less than friendly and sort of slow, food was nothing special. We both had the chicken parm and it was, like I said, mediocre. Cute outdoor patio though. If you're in town, I believe you can find better. If you're on the fence, skip it. read more

Updated: Arriving at the beginning of dinner rush this past Thursday, I took a seat at the bar. The two bartenders were very attentive, despite being very busy. We stopped in for some pizza a few weeks back and everything was good. Their pizza style is the typical Keweenaw flat pie (not sure what to call it) that gets cut into like 20 slices. We got a plain/pepperoni for the family and the kids ate the whole thing. My wife got some drink that came in a bucket (you can keep the bucket) and she really enjoyed that as well. This was the place my older family members would always go for spaghetti so I finally decided to try it myself and now I understand why. Spaghetti and meatballs are like nothing I've had before. It has a unique slightly cinnamon flavor. Please just trust me and try it (or if you're still unsure, you can order a side order of just the meatballs). Fish and chips are golden and crispy. We have alway eaten at Gino's when we have been in the Houghton/Hancock area and have always liked our food and service, not this time. We were one of the first groups to be seated on this particular Sunday. We needed a little more time to decide what we wanted, it took forever for the waitress to return. Then it took forever for our food to arrive. Three of us got half & half. The ravioli were half the size of what they used to be and two of the orders had very little sauce on the spaghetti. We tried Gino's for the first time and both ordered the half & half pasta option, giving us cheese ravioli and spaghetti. We did the garlic cream sauce for the ravioli and tried both the marinara and meat sauce for the spaghetti. While the marinara was really good (on the sweeter side), we will be skipping the spaghetti next time and going with the ravioli. The cream sauce was pretty thick and a bit darker than we expected but very good. The pastas were supposed to come with a roll, as stated on the menu, but we were brought one roll since one of us ordered, and paid for, a house salad with the meal. The server actually asked if the other person wanted a roll since they didn't get a salad when it was clearly listed on the menu. Small thing to be disappointed in but it was strange. We had lunch here on a quick trip to visit our MTU son. We made the trip to Hancock b/c the Houghton restaurants were full...veery glad we did! The soup (cheesy veg) was highly praised by my son.
