I would have given five stars, but the bread was only OK. Everything else was very good. While getting a haircut at The Barber Shop in Houghton, Carol recommended Gino's. We're spending 8 days in Houghton in our motorhome. We really enjoyed the entire experience. Our server was attentive and friendly. The menu covers all the bases. Servings are plentiful, in fact we brought a portion of each meal home. If we lived in the area, this would definitely be our go-to for Italian. I suggest you read the history of this restaurant. Back to the bread....most of the pasta is made in-house. Maybe they should make their bread in-house. It wasn't terrible and was very edible, but lacking. Do NOT let my bread comment prevent you from going to Gino's. You will enjoy it. Highly recommend. read more

Went there on a Wednesday night, not too busy. Good service, but the food was only mediocre at best. We both had the Lasagna, which is one of their specialties. Came with a salad, which was ok, and a roll which was VERY dry. Had to get extra butter to make it palatable. Lasagna itself was only so-so, disappointing given it was a specialty. Meat sauce lacked flavor and pasta was overcooked. Olive Garden is leaps and bounds better than Ginos. We were there once before and I had a Cudghi which was also disappointing. read more

Saw the reviews and thought this would be a great stop. First impression didn't go well as we waited for several minutes to be acknowledged. There was someone stocking glassware and chatting with a bartender that never even looked our way when we were feet away. It was so long we were about to walk out. That should have been the clue to the service we were about to get. The girl that finally asked if we were waiting to be seated asked if we wanted inside or out. We chose the patio so she told us to go on out and find a seat and she'd follow. She did, again several minutes later. So by this point we realize it's going to take way longer than we have time for so we order a pizza and ask for it to go. Waited and waited for the pizza. When she brought it with the house salad I had added on she didn't bring napkins or even a fork for the salad. When she set it all down I asked for a couple waters to go and it was while waiting again on those that we realized the salad was rung up $2 higher than the menu price. When I asked she said they had just got new menus and the old price was still on there but they had changed pricing in the system. When we finally got to eat the salad the dressing was wrong, blue cheese looks just like ranch but doesn't taste anything like it. To end on a good note, the pizza was great. I just now remembered that I needed to leave a review. I didn't take a picture of my two delicious fish tacos. Coming from Los Angeles and living here for about five years. It's been kind of rough finding a place to enjoy food that is fresh and not overpriced. I avoided this restaurant because I don't go out to eat Italian food being Italian. I'm super picky and I make enough Italian food at home that I like to go out and eat things that I don't normally make myself. But a friend of mine wanted to go there so we did and I'm so glad! I walked in and saw the black tablecloths and thought well it's probably gonna be overpriced and like most Italian restaurants I'm not gonna like the food but I will enjoy the company. The menu is filled with so many non-Italian options. Watching the food come out of the kitchen and go to different tables. It was hard because everything looked so good and presented so well. I hadn't had fish tacos in about a year other than the ones I've made at home and mine are not the greatest! Haven't figured out the sauce yet anyway these were unlike anything I've ever tried before, but definitely delicious. I ordered french fries because it came with chips which I thought was kind of weird. It still is kind of an odd option to go with fish tacos, but my girlfriend across the table for me got these homemade chips so much that she had to take them home and they're delicious! French fries were fine. They weren't anything over the top special but they were good dipped in their homemade blue cheese! So good! After everybody got there first entrée, I was so hungry and watching her eat her side salad I ordered one. It's not huge, but it's fresh and it's four dollars! Seriously I couldn't believe how good it was. I love blue cheese and when she told me it was homemade I was skeptical. Definitely delicious. All three of us really enjoyed our food. Our waitress was real attentive. The restaurant was not overly full, but it was busy. The inside is clean and beautiful. I found another gem! My husband and I went to Gino's twice during our stay in Hancock. Our first visit I ordered the spaghetti/meat ravioli combo. Spaghetti was good, the ravioli was very tasty, a light flavor of nutmeg in the meat was a pleasant surprise. The roll had a flaky crust, and fresh and soft inside. My husband ordered the Korean Barbecue sandwich and loved it. The bread impressed him, and he's not a bread guy. Our second visit I ordered the Cudighi sausage sandwich, and again enjoyed the seasonings and bread. I ordered sweet potato fries, they were crisp and tasty. My husband ordered Philly cheese steak sandwich with waffle fries. The sandwich was decent. The waffle fries were crispy, but could have used more seasoning. We went to Gino's on a weeknight during the summer, and it was just "ok". Because it was highlighted as their special, most of the table ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce. If it's your thing and you enjoy it, good for you. We did not: it has a cinnamon/spice taste and it just wasn't for us. Service was just ok: we ended up waiting a bit for food and the waitress forgot to bring us refills (she said she left them at the bar). Patio is really nice. Always good food and service! In the summer I love the outdoor dining and in the winter I love the easy access via snowmobile.

I ordered the half-and-half (spaghetti and ravioli), and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. The spaghetti tasted like it had been pulled straight from the fridge, and the sauce was watery and bland. The ravioli seemed promising at first, but they must have been sitting too long because they were covered in the same awful sauce and had that unmistakable "reheated" texture. The entire plate felt like it had been microwaved--scalding hot on the outside, yet cold in the center. For the price, I expected better portion sizes and maybe even a small side salad, but what I got seemed more like a child's portion. Service was decent when I could get the bartender's attention, and while he was friendly, the overall experience wasn't great. As a snowmobiler, I also found it inconvenient that there was no designated parking. While that's a minor issue, it added to the frustration. Ultimately, the food quality, portion sizes, and lackluster service are why this is a one-star review. If you visit, maybe try the pizza--just avoid the pasta. read more

We stopped in for some pizza a few weeks back and everything was good. Their pizza style is the typical Keweenaw flat pie (not sure what to call it) that gets cut into like 20 slices. We got a plain/pepperoni for the family and the kids ate the whole thing. My wife got some drink that came in a bucket (you can keep the bucket) and she really enjoyed that as well. We were one of the first groups to be seated on this particular Sunday. We needed a little more time to decide what we wanted, it took forever for the waitress to return. Then it took forever for our food to arrive. Three of us got half & half. The ravioli were half the size of what they used to be and two of the orders had very little sauce on the spaghetti. We did the garlic cream sauce for the ravioli and tried both the marinara and meat sauce for the spaghetti. While the marinara was really good (on the sweeter side), we will be skipping the spaghetti next time and going with the ravioli. The cream sauce was pretty thick and a bit darker than we expected but very good. The pastas were supposed to come with a roll, as stated on the menu, but we were brought one roll since one of us ordered, and paid for, a house salad with the meal. The server actually asked if the other person wanted a roll since they didn't get a salad when it was clearly listed on the menu. Small thing to be disappointed in but it was strange. We had lunch here on a quick trip to visit our MTU son. We made the trip to Hancock b/c the Houghton restaurants were full...veery glad we did! The soup (cheesy veg) was highly praised by my son.
