We were looking for a place to stop and grab a quick lunch but except for fast food places, it was a challenge finding something. We stopped in Port Jervis and found this café. We were greeted with a smile and a polite and attentive server . They offer artisan sandwiches , burgers , salads , they have a small bakery and they even sell gelato . They also have a bar . Something for everyone! Although some of the reviews were harsh we found our lunch choices to be delicious and very well-made. I ordered a very simple sandwich of freshly sliced turkey, crispy bacon, and cheddar cheese on their artisan bread , served with a side of pasta salad. The sandwich was very good and filled with a nice amount of turkey and bacon . The pasta salad was average , simply made with a vinaigrette dressing. The turkey was moist and flavorful, the bacon was nice and crispy and the bread was thick and freshly sliced. Give it a try if you are in the area . read more

Breakfast/Lunch spot. They stop serving breakfast at 11:00 am, every day except Sundays. Food was good, service was good, even though the waitress tried to serve me old decaf coffee instead of asking me to wait one minute for a fresh pot. ( I could see into the service area) Nice selection of baked goods. Panini's were good. Pasta salad tasted sour. The menu says they serve dinner, but they close at 8:00 pm. read more

Could be so much better with some minor tweaks. We both had paninis for lunch. Both paninis were on the heavy side mostly from the sauces. Tomato soup was ok. Service was harried. When we asked about the wines the server told us she could not help us because she doesn't drink wine. Where to begin... Ordered a cheese burger with "sauteed portobello and onions" medium rare, no bun. Got a well done burger WITH bun stuck to cheese, topped with nearly raw portobello...(saute requires oil or butter, or a little of both and usually some HEAT.) Ordered crispy fries, got white, mealy cheap frozen under-cooked fries. Ordered shrimp scampi (big mistake), got over-cooked rubbery shrimp, tasteless thin sauce, most of which was in the bottom of the bag and not even in the dish. No parmesan, scant garlic, and 3 whole shrimp in the entire entree! How cheap can you get? That's a rhetorical question, btw. Ordered turkey, monterey jack and bacon wrap...that contained one shredded strip of bacon that tasted like it was cooked days ago, (stored in the refrigerator uncovered and allowed to absorb every odor around it) in a tasteless, spongey wrap, and someone in the kitchen doesn't know the difference between Monterey Jack and American cheese...sad. Ordered herb chicken panini. Again, tasteless. BangBang sauce barely made it edible. Also bought 2 varieties of their cookies...asked for 1/2 pound of each, paid $28 and got 10.2 oz. INCLUDING THE BOX! and they were also tasteless, except for maybe the burnt edges...they had a little flavor, something like chocolate charcoal. Should have trusted my instincts not to return after two previous horrible meals several years ago...hasn't gotten better apparently. Had ordered a Caesar salad last time there that was served with Italian dressing. When I inquired as to why I wasn't served Caesar dressing I was told "that's the way the 'chef' makes it"... For the Italian "chef" who doesn't know how to make Caesar dressing NOTE, THERE IS NO VINEGAR IN THE RECIPE: 2 small garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon anchovy paste 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, from one lemon 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 cup mayonnaise 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Someone please, please go to culinary school and open a REAL Italian restaurant! read more

Great meal in casual little bakery cafe! We previously stopped here for their delicious cupcakes on the bakery side, and decided to try the cafe. It did not disappoint. They recently got a new chef and she killed it with the pasta. We had the rigatoni Toscana and the tortellini with shrimp in Alfredo. Good portions, great drinks, and reasonable prices in a laid back little place. Save room for dessert! Our waitress was great and very attentive. One of my favorite places to go. The service is always friendly and accommodating. It's always comforting. The feel of the place as well as the food and baked goods. The word I would best describe this place is comfort. Plus the strawberry cupcake is always my go to. Every time I visit home I have to buy my cupcake and of course buy a bunch of other baked goods. You get a great lunch or dinner and amazing dessert! Can't recommend this place enough! read more

I was very surprised to find this place in this small town. We stopped by quickly before grabbing the train and the to go service was quick (although they wouldn't seat us for quick service). We just grabbed the cinnamon bun, blueberry cheese treat, and an açaí bowl. The cinnamon bun and blueberry cheese crumb cake(?) were so so sooooo good. Like wow! I don't even think the blueberry cheese crumb cake comes like that even in the city. The açaí was pretty bad - super sugary. Definitely drop by here! read more

Two stars only because the dessert was really good. Ordered a 1/2 chicken salad and waited 20 minutes to receive it (restaurant was not busy), i sent it back as it did not taste fresh and server was not sure when it was made) . I then switched and asked for grilled cheese, i received unbuttered toasted bread with unmelted cheese. Too make me even less likely to come back was when i watched the owner roll a wrap with her bare hands which she did not wash after checking someone out at the register . They should sell only desserts, the food is awful. read more

I brought my niece to the Santa breakfast the other day that Gio's hosted. I had never been here before but have heard great things about this cafe from many people over the past few years. What a nice place!! I didn't expect it to be so big! The owner was so sweet and the staff was super friendly too! The desserts all looked so good!! We ended up taking home a bunch of cookies to try and a piece of cheesecake. Oh my goodness, the cheesecake was sooo good!!! I also tried their rainbow cookies and Italian butter cookies which were good too!! I have to say they weren't as "dry" like other bakeries around the county are which is a very good thing! The Santa breakfast was nice! They had an array of different things to choose from. A few suggestions for next year though would be to add bagels to the buffet, waffles and have more drinks to choose from like chocolate milk, regular milk, hot chocolate, etc and to put ketchup and spoons on the tables. Whoever was Santa did a awesome job too!! Each child got a gift from him and he spent time and took pictures with each child. He was great even with the little ones who were afraid of him. My niece got a framed drawing of Donald Duck. It is so precious! I think I overheard that he actually drew the pictures himself and framed them too. A very special gift, and one I'm sure she will treasure. It was a great event and I'm sure we will be back next year and I definitely know we will be back for more sweets very soon!!! read more

This was a terrific spot for lunch. Friendly service, great menu, and awesome bakery items. We met a friend for lunch who just turned 80. We came here today for lunch and we feel in love! First of all we loved the decor and atmosphere! Then we were greeted right away by friendly staff and on our way to being seated we were drawn to the glass cases with all of the deliciousness on display - and we purchased 2 loaves of bread (we couldn't help it!) We then were seated by our friendly waitress and ordered our lunches - which were delicious! We all ordered the 1/2 sandwich and soup combos and it truly was perfect amount and very good! Ordered a baby shower cake from Gia Gelato and I couldn't have been happier. They cake was amazing and probably the best tasting cake I have ever had. It was moist and full of flavor, the fondant was fresh and tasty and I never eat the fondant. I ordered a dozen cupcakes to go with the cake and they were very good also. The customer service was fantastic. I made an appointment to take to an artist about a custom cake and was told to bring some photos if I had any for inspiration. I paid a deposit and left it in their hands. The cake was ready on time as promised. The place has a few tables if you wanted to sit in. They had a small menu aside from their deserts. I would definitely give them a try for lunch. If you haven't yet, stop in you will not be disappointed unless your one of those people that can't find joy in the word joy. read more

It seemed to take them an unreasonably long amount of time to make two paninis, which kinda sucked because we were trying to make a train. (We missed it, whoops...more time to explore the area). All the gelato looked awesome, that was actually the original plan when we picked the place, but we hadn't realized they had actual food too, so gelato ended up being an afterthought. The bread was really good, and that was a preeeettttyyyyy damn delicious roast beast (err, beef) sammich. Horseradish = me likey. We ended up taking our stuff to go and adventuring under the bridge to eat, they packaged it nicely, so it traveled well. It's probably better off that we missed the train, because everyone on it would have been jealous of the awesomeness. read more

Came here for a couple weeks ago for lunch and really enjoyed the meal. My dining companion got the tomato bisque. I am not a big tomato person but I tried it anyway. I was super close to getting a bowl of my own. For my meal I got a special - spinach & strawberry salad. It was fantastic. There was not too much of one ingredient and the dressing (which was nicely served on the side) was perfect. We had some gelato for dessert. After sampling some flavors I got pineapple. Not a gelato flavor that I have ever had or would normally go for, but it definitely was delicious. This place is quite far from home, but anytime I am out in Port Jervis, I will definitely put this on my list of places to return to. read more

AN ABSOLUTELY MUST DO! 5 STARS! THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY CULINARY TRIP TO NEW YORK! This was the only place I ate - actually got to go orders 3 times. If I lived here this would be my go to spot. DON'T EXPECT YOUR FOOD TO BE DONE IN A NEW YORK MINUTE IN HERE THEY TAKE THEIR TIME & PREPARE YOUR MEAL AT A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL THAN AT NORMAL RESTAURANTS! It is located just minutes from The Pennsylvania border. Gio's Gelato Cafe is a spacious medium size restaurant with tables & chairs inside & outside that serves Italian food a whole different way. I noticed that the employees were working at a moderate pace even slightly slower pace. I asked what was there most popular item in the sandwich category to go. They said it was their Chicken Walnut Cranberry: Chicken Breast, Mayo, Romaine Lettuce. Dried Cranberries, & Walnuts on their Home Made Bread. I didn't say anything even though it took 1 & 1/2 times longer than a normal restaurant for my sandwich & Tiramisu dessert which they also suggested to be made. I took one bite & said OMG that is FANTASTIC & it came with a small pasta salad that was TASTY AS CAN BE & The Tiramisu was Delicious too. I don't mind waiting & I don't think other people would mind waiting if they knew in advance that what you are going to serve me is - Food at Some Higher Level & that takes Time. Did you ever see celebrity chefs cook on tv they cook at a moderate to slow pace compare that to a Chaotic restaurant with waiters & waitresses running around & the cook throwing things on the grill to get the orders out on time - 2 completely different cooking styles. This slow paced higher level cooking style wouldn't work in a big city but in the outskirts of New York it works Great. I got to know the staff there.
